A Massachusetts town has officially signed off on a name change in honor of Patriots’ starting QB Drake Maye.

On Super Bowl Sunday, the town of Maynard will be redubbed “Mayenard”!

Maye had a sensational sophomore season, becoming a finalist for the AP NFL MVP and Offensive Player of the Year awards while leading the Patriots to their 12th Super Bowl.

Maye and the New England Patriots (17-3) take on Sam Darnold and the Seattle Seahawks (16-3) on Sunday at Levi’s Stadium, home of the San Francisco 49ers.

The Seahawks have the NFL’s stingiest defense, led by tackle Leonard Williams, linebacker Ernest Jones IV and cornerback Devon Witherspoon. Seattle allowed just 17.1 points per game.

When it comes to picking the winner of Super Bowl LX, New England Patriots legend Tom Brady is refusing to take a side.

Speaking on Jim Gray’s Let’s Go podcast, the seven-time Super Bowl winner revealed he’s focused on the quality of this weekend’s game in Santa Clara, California, not the result.

“I just wanna see good football. I wanna see good plays, good throws, good strategy, good decisions. And that’s the joy in the game for me,” Brady said. “I don’t have a dog in the fight in this one. May the best team win.”

Given Brady won six of his seven Super Bowl rings with the Patriots, his decision not to back his former team surprised many, including Boston 25’s Gene Lavanchy and Nicole Gabe.

“He said he doesn’t ‘have a dog in this fight. He’s got a dog in this fight. He’s got a dog that has been very loyal, a dog that has been very friendly, a dog that’s been house trained, a dog that doesn’t bark at strangers,” Lavanchy said on the Tuesday edition of the Boston 25 Morning News. “He’s a Patriot for goodness sake! That struck me as odd.”

Gabe added, “Everything that he’s said about Drake Maye, too..I mean, he only praised him. Drake Maye also looks up to him...Kind of surprising, especially after that statue being built right in front of Gillette.”

Lavanchy speculated that Brady might be trying to maintain his independence as a broadcaster or remain impartial since he’s also a part-owner of the Las Vegas Raiders.

Brady did tell Gray that he was happy to see the Patriots succeeding under first-year head coach Mike Vrabel, his former teammate of eight years in the 2000s.

In terms of the Patriots, this is a new chapter in New England, and I’m glad everyone’s embraced the Mike Vrabel regime, all the amazing players that have worked so hard to get their club to this position. We did it for 20 years. There was a little bit of a hiatus in there, but the Patriots are back, and it’s a very exciting time for everyone in New England."

The Patriots and Seahawks kick off the Super Bowl on Sunday at 6:30 p.m.

The National Football League, in partnership with VisitPITTSBURGH and the Steelers, have released the first official renderings of the 2026 NFL Draft in Pittsburgh.

The new renderings show a two-site Draft campus designed to showcase Pittsburgh’s landmarks, waterways and skyline, according to VisitPITTSBURGH.

The Draft Theater and Main Stage will be located outside of Acrisure Stadium on the North Shore. The Draft Theater will be a viewing area that will create a dramatic setting for pick selections and televised coverage, according to a release.

“We’re excited by the NFL’s release of renderings for the 2026 NFL Draft,” said Dan Rooney, Vice President of Business Development and Strategy for the Pittsburgh Steelers. “Football fans from around the world will see how Pittsburgh’s iconic landscape creates a natural amphitheater, providing the perfect setting for this world-class celebration of football – all in the heart of Western Pennsylvania – a region that holds a unique place in the history of the game.”

A part of the NFL Draft Experience, the league’s interactive fan festival, will be located at Point State Park. It will feature interactive activities, youth programming, food and beverage offerings and immersive NFL exhibits designed for fans of all ages.

“These renderings bring the 2026 NFL Draft vision to life in a way that is uniquely Pittsburgh,” said Peter O’Reilly, NFL Executive Vice President of Club Business, International and League Events. “From the North Shore to Point State Park, this campus design captures the city’s energy, authenticity, and deep-rooted connection to the game, while delivering an unforgettable experience for fans around the world.”

To connect the Draft Theater and the NFL Draft Experience, the Roberto Clemente Bridge will be closed to vehicle traffic and used as a pedestrian-only corridor. In addition, the Gateway Clipper Fleet will provide river transportation between the two sites in Downtown and the North Shore.

“The layout of the 2026 NFL Draft campus is intentionally designed to celebrate Pittsburgh’s sense of place,” said Jerad Bachar, President & CEO of VisitPITTSBURGH. “From the North Shore to Point State Park, across the Roberto Clemente Bridge and along the rivers, this Draft will showcase our city’s character, connectivity, and hospitality in a way only Pittsburgh can.”

The 2026 NFL Draft will take place April 23-25. VisitPITTSBURGH said 500,000 to 700,000 fans are expected to attend the Draft.

The Pittsburgh Steelers helped make NFL history during the 2025 season as they hosted the Minnesota Vikings in the first NFL regular season game ever played in Ireland. So when does the NFL plan to return to play in Ireland?

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell revealed hopefully within the next few years.

“We did have a wonderful time. Both clubs had a great time. I think our fans had a spectacular time,” Goodell said during his annual state of the NFL news conference ahead of the Super Bowl on Monday. “That game had more people come from the states from an international game than any game in our series.”

This season’s game in Ireland was a smashing hit. According to NFL Media, the Steelers-Vikings game averaged 7.9 million viewers (TV+Digital), making it the second-most NFL Network watched game ever.

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — Maybe the game itself will live up to the hype, because Super Bowl Opening Night was calmer than usual.

Drake Maye and the New England Patriots (17-3) take on Sam Darnold and the Seattle Seahawks (16-3) on Sunday at Levi’s Stadium, home of the San Francisco 49ers.

The media frenzy that kicks off the week’s festivities on Monday night was smaller, quieter and far less outrageous than recent years.

The crowd inside the San Jose Convention Center included more than 5,000 fans — it’s been twice that size or more in larger arenas. More than 2,000 reporters from across the globe were credentialed to cover the typically zany event, down from 6,000 media members in Las Vegas two years ago.

There was no sign of the naked man in a barrel. Nobody wore a wedding dress and proposed to Maye. Reporters weren’t asking players to dance or perform odd tricks.

Still, it wasn’t all football and X’s and O’s.

Maye was asked about his wife, Ann Michael Maye, and her popular baking videos on social media.

“Keep being you,” he said. “You’re the better half of me and I love you. It’s such a special moment for me to follow your journey. I know you do it for something bigger than yourself and that’s what makes it special.”

Patriots coach Mike Vrabel refused to compare Maye to Tom Brady and was asked several questions about playing for Bill Belichick. He had fun with a reporter from Nickelodeon who presented him with a purple-and-green chain that read, “Slime.” Vrabel wore it but feared he’d get that green, gooey stuff splashed all over his head.

“Why do you keep looking up? Am I about to get slimed?” he said.

Assured he wasn’t, Vrabel was asked if there’s one player he would want to slime.

“Stefon Diggs,” he said without hesitation.

Diggs, the standout receiver, was full of praise for his coach.

“I’ve had great coaches but this guy played the game, he knows we’re gonna grind and he takes care of us,” Diggs said.

The Patriots spent one hour fielding questions before giving way to the Seahawks, who were set to take the stage an hour afterward.

An event that began as a daytime introduction of the teams has evolved into a live, ticketed, prime-time showcase on national television.

The Patriots are aiming for an NFL-record seventh Lombardi trophy and first without Brady and coach Belichick.

Vrabel, who won three Super Bowls as a linebacker with New England, inherited a 4-13 team and has the Patriots on the verge of their first championship parade in seven years.

Maye had a sensational sophomore season, becoming a finalist for the AP NFL MVP and Offensive Player of the Year awards while leading the Patriots to their 12th Super Bowl.

A stifling defense has led the way for the Patriots in the playoffs, holding three opponents to just 8.7 points per game.

This is a Super Bowl rematch from one of the most memorable endings among the first 59. The Patriots beat the Seahawks 28-24 when Malcolm Butler picked off Russell Wilson’s pass from the 1 in the final minute on Feb. 1, 2015.

The Seahawks had the NFL’s stingiest defense, led by tackle Leonard Williams, linebacker Ernest Jones IV and cornerback Devon Witherspoon. Seattle allowed just 17.1 points per game.

But Darnold’s resurgence will be the top storyline of the week. A No. 3 overall pick by the New York Jets in 2018, Darnold is thriving on his fifth team.

Despite winning 14 games with Minnesota in 2024, the Vikings let Darnold walk away in free agency. He became the first quarterback to lead two teams to consecutive 14-win seasons and has proved his doubters wrong. Now, he’s trying to help Seattle win its second Super Bowl in the franchise’s fourth appearance in the game.

At least Darnold has experienced this week’s shenanigans. He was a backup to Brock Purdy when the 49ers lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl two years ago.

The Connecticut Yankee bar in San Francisco, an unassuming blue building in the heart of the city, has become a spontaneous watering hole for Patriots fan in the area for Super Bowl LX.

Owned and managed by New England native Jonathan Breuer, the bar provides a dedicated space for Patriots supporters to gather on the West Coast. The venue is filled with sports memorabilia and jerseys, creating an environment that many patrons describe as a “home away from home” for the local fan base.

Breuer, the manager and owner of Connecticut Yankee, grew up in New England before moving to the West Coast. He said owning a Boston-themed establishment was a goal he had since his youth.

“In my senior yearbook was to own a Boston bar. And it happened 20 something years later,” Breuer said.

The bar’s interior is decorated with jerseys and memorabilia that represent both the current team and its past history.

The venue attracts local residents from the Bay Area as well as visitors from across the country.

One patron told Boston 25 the bar has become a personal landmark.

“My license plate is hung up in the bathroom here. Like, this has been my home,” he said. “Just, it’s one of the best feelings to be able to walk in here. It’s fun here. We’re like family here.”

The bar will host events throughout the week, including a viewing party for the big game on Sunday.

It’s the dead of winter, but at Fenway Park, spring is already rounding third and headed for home.

The first sign of spring on Van Ness—not a bouncing red robin, but a gaggle of excited Red Sox fans.

They’re flocking to Fenway not to send off the team to Spring Training, but to send off the equipment truck.

“It’s the favorite holiday of the year,” said Brenda Malone.

The 53-foot-long Red Sox Express truck is packed with more than 20,000 baseballs, 1,100 bats, 200 batting gloves, helmets—and all of Red Sox Nation’s hopes and dreams.

Its destination: JetBlue Park in Florida, the Red Sox’s winter home.

It’s a date die-hard Sox fans keep circled on their calendars.

“Bundled Gram up to get her out, down from NH just to see it,” said Kaitlin Doig.

First stop is Central Massachusetts.

At Polar Park, home of the WooSox, another crowd of baseball fans gathered to cheer on the truck—and the truck driver.

The entire city buried beneath icy snow mounds.But dreams of baseball are keeping everyone here warm.

“There’s nothing better than a sign of spring right now to have this coming along,” said Bill Payton.

“I think we defy the weather in New England. I just love that it conjures images of bats and balls and sunshine and palm trees,” said Dr. Charles Steinberg.

The equipment truck will reach Fort Myers in two and a half days.

Meanwhile, the home opener here in Worcester is only six weeks away—March 27th.

And no less than Roger Clemens will throw out the ceremonial first pitch.

The Boston Red Sox traded right-handed pitchers Jordan Hicks and David Sandlin to the Chicago White Sox on Monday.

Hicks, 29, joins Chicago after recording a 6.95 ERA in 34 games during the 2025 season. He split that time between the San Francisco Giants and the Red Sox, appearing in 21 games for Boston. The Texas native struck out 58 batters more than 67 one/three innings and made nine starts during the year.

The Red Sox originally acquired Hicks on June 15, 2025, in a trade that sent Rafael Devers to the Giants. Since being drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in 2015, Hicks has appeared in 275 career Major League games with the Cardinals, Toronto Blue Jays, Giants and Red Sox. He holds a career 4.41 ERA.

Sandlin, 24, was also sent to Chicago after pitching for Double-A Portland and Triple-A Worcester in 2025. He posted a 4.50 ERA with 107 strikeouts across 106 innings. Sandlin was considered one of Boston’s top prospects, ranking No. 8 by MLB.com and No. 11 by Baseball America. During the 2025 season, he was twice named the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week.

The Oklahoma native began his professional career with the Kansas City Royals, who selected him in the 11th round of the 2022 draft. Boston acquired him via trade on Feb. 17, 2024. Throughout his minor league career, Sandlin has a 4.38 ERA and 279 strikeouts in 65 games.

In exchange, Boston acquired minor league pitcher Gage Ziehl, cash considerations, and a player to be named later.

Ziehl, 22, comes to the Boston organization following his first professional season. He posted a 4.12 ERA with 90 strikeouts and 19 walks across three different minor league levels in 2025. He started the season in the New York Yankees system before being traded to the White Sox on July 30. Following that trade, he recorded a 4.01 ERA in six starts for High-A Winston-Salem.

Ziehl was a fourth-round pick by the Yankees in 2024 out of the University of Miami. The South Carolina native is currently ranked as a top prospect by both MLB.com (No. 14) and Baseball America (No. 21).

The New England Patriots are off to Santa Clara, California to face off the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl LX.

Fans showed up in the thousands to cheer the team on as they jumped on their team buses to head to T.F. Green Airport in Providence.

“Oh my gosh, this is my first rally I’m so glad thank you Vrabel for getting me here,” said one fan.

The Patriots beat the Denvers Broncos and backup quarterback Jarrett Stidham last weekend 10-7 in the AFC Championship Game as Bo Nix was out with an ankle injury.

The team did prepare in practice for the big game prior to heading out to California, however quarterback Drake Maye did not practice due to a shoulder injury and illness.

The stadium filled up quickly with big smiles and plenty of layers, while others dressing not so warm and running on pure adrenaline.

The cold did not bother New England fans, many of them noting that while the team has faced a difficult few years, they were excited to see the Patriots return to the big stage.

“Maye’s the best quarterback baby better than Sam Darnold,” one fan said.

One fan at the rally expressed hope for a more decisive victory in the upcoming game compared to the past previous appearances with quarterback Tom Brady.

“I hope we get we can finally get a blowout in the Super Bowl,” the fan said. “We’ve had really close ones for a while so I’m looking for a blowout here.”

Super Bowl LX will take place next Sunday in Santa Clara. Some fans at the rally confirmed they will be attending the game in California, while others plan to watch from home.

The Dropkick Murphys kicked off the beginning of the rally, while owner Robert Kraft and team captains spoke to the crowd thanking them for their support during the season.

“We love y’all. 32 years ago, we bought the team, and it was snowing the first day and you were lined up on Route 1. I came down here and you were buying season tickets so we could have our first sold out season in the history of the team,” said Kraft.

“This is beyond my wildest dreams, for the fans to have embraced us the first year of this program the way that you have. I said all along that if our players played up to the standard that you guys expected, then the effort that which they would play and their style of football you would come out,” said coach Mike Vrabel.

“And come out you did so thank you. Every week we played here it got better and better, that last game we played against the Texas - unreal,” he said.

“First off, I want to thank you guys, you guys have been great all season. Man, we wouldn’t be here without you guys. What a journey, and we still have work left to do, shout-out to these guys, love you guys,” said quarterback Drake Maye.

“I want to say a huge shout out to our fans; Pats nation you guys did a great job we got one more to go. For everyone that’s traveling, travel safe. It’s time to get after it man, we all we got, we all we need,” said receiver Stefon Diggs.

The O-Line were surprise Keepers of the Light and rang the bell before getting on the buses to T.F. Green Airport.

Maye did not practice on Friday due to illness and a shoulder injury. The Patriots will spend a week out in California before they play the Seahawks in the Super Bowl on Sunday, February 8 at 6:30 p.m. Bad Bunny is scheduled to be the half time performer.

The last time the Patriots won a Super Bowl was back in 2019 against the Los Angeles Rams.

The New England Patriots are heading to their 12th Super Bowl after defeating the Denver Broncos in the AFC Championship.

The Patriots squeaked out a 10-7 victory in the Mile High City, while the Seattle Seahawks defeated the Los Angeles Rams 38-37.

The Patriots will kick off their 12th Super Bowl run with a send-off rally this morning at Gillette Stadium before heading to T.F. Green Airport in Providence to fly to California for the big game next weekend.

They will play the Seahawks on Sunday, February 8 at 6:30 p.m.

Carlos Alcaraz is the youngest man ever to complete a career Grand Slam after securing the Australian Open title against Novak Djokovic, who had never lost in his 10 previous finals at Melbourne Park.

The top-ranked Alcaraz dropped the first set Sunday as Djokovic went out hard in pursuit of a record 25th major title, but he dug deep to win 2-6, 6-2, 6-3, 7-5.

As he was leaving the court, he signed the lens of the TV camera with a note of recognition: “Job finished. 4/4 Complete.”

The 22-year-old Spaniard scrambled to retrieve shots that usually would be winners for Djokovic, and he kept up intense pressure on his 38-year-old rival. There were extended rallies where each player hit enough brilliant shots to usually win a game, with neither player willing to give an inch or concede.

Once he secured victory, Alcaraz let his racket slip out of his hand and fell to the ground on his back, putting his hands to his head.

He stayed there for a few seconds before going to the net to shake hands with Djokovic. Both players exchanged a few words and Djokovic smiled as he congratulated Alcaraz. The new champion then ran to hug his coaches in the courtside chairs and later his dad and other team members in the stands.

After paying tribute to Djokovic for being an inspiration, Alcaraz turned to his support team. He parted ways with longtime coach Juan Carlos Ferrero at the end of last season and Samuel Lopez stepped up to head the team.

“Nobody knows how hard I’ve been working to get this trophy. I just chased this moment so much,” Alcaraz said. The pre-season was a bit of a rollercoaster emotionally.

“We just did the right work, you were pushing me every day to do all the right things,” he added. “I’m just really grateful for everyone I have in my corner right now.”

Djokovic joked about this showdown setting up a rivalry over the next 10 years with Alcaraz, but then said it was only right to hand the floor over to the new champion.

“First and foremost, congratulations to an amazing tournament and amazing couple of weeks,” Djokovic said at the trophy presentation. “What you’ve been doing, the best word to describe is historic, legendary, so congratulations. I wish the best of luck in the rest of your career.”

Both players were coming off grueling five-set semifinal wins and showed phenomenal fitness, athleticism and stamina for just over three hours in pursuit of their own historic achievements.

Neither player was willing to relent on the big points — and there were many of them. In the end, Alcaraz was able to convert 5 of the 16 breakpoints he set up. Djokovic converted two of his six.

Djokovic’s push for an unprecedented 25th Grand Slam singles title has now been blocked by Alcaraz or Jannik Sinner for nine majors.

Djokovic edged Sinner in the semifinals and was aiming to be the oldest man to win a Grand Slam title in the Open era, but didn’t quite make it against Alcaraz.

Rafa in the house

Djokovic and Rafael Nadal played some epic matches, including the longest match ever at the Australian Open in a five-set final that lasted almost six hours in 2012.

Nadal was watching from the stands on Sunday night, and both players addressed the 22-time major winner.

“I want to speak to the legendary Rafa, who is on the stands,” Djokovic said. “Obviously, it feels very weird to see you there and not here, you know?

“But thank you for being present. It’s too many Spanish legends... It felt like it was two against one tonight, you know, it wasn’t fair, but OK.”

Alcaraz said it was a privilege: “I know you were watching me when I was like 15, 14 years old, so it’s been a long time. But, yeah, for me, it’s such an honor playing in front of you.”

One for the ages

At 22 years and 272 days, Alcaraz is the youngest man to complete a set of all four major singles titles. He broke the mark set by Don Budge in the 1938 French championships, when he was 22 years and 363 days.

Alcaraz now has seven major titles — his first in Australia along with two each at Wimbledon and the French and U.S. Opens.

He’s the ninth man to achieve the career Grand Slam, a list that also includes Djokovic, Nadal and Roger Federer.

Despite bitterly cold temperatures, the Red Bull Heavy Metal street snowboarding competition made a high-energy debut in Pittsburgh.

The single-day, opening qualifier event saw 35 street snowboarders compete for a chance to ride with the pros in Red Bull Heavy Metal Boston on Feb. 21.

Channel 11 was there outside Acrisure Stadium for part of the action. We heard from some of the 5,000 total fans in attendance, who wouldn’t let the weather stop them from watching.

“I love my people from Pittsburgh showing up, showing out,” attendee Ronan Bray said. “I love my people from New Jersey and West Virginia, too. I love everybody coming here.”

A snowboard photographer, Ashley Rosemeyer acted as one of the competition’s judges.

“Since I’m from Pittsburgh, it was cool to come here for Red Bull Heavy Metal,” Rosemeyer said. “I wasn’t sure with the temperature what the riders would throw down, so it was awesome to see everyone out there really hyping each other up.”

Pittsburgh native and trophy curator Jack Hnath explained the significance of the prizes’ design.

“The Pittsburgh skyline was used for the first-place trophy, and then someone else had a great idea for the Clemente Bridge for the second and third place trophies, and it was just an exciting process. This was fun to work on,” Hnath said.
