Manchester United are looking to improve the defensive unit in the summer with the signing of Charlie Cresswell. 

The 23-year-old central defender has done quite well for Toulouse, and the opportunity to return to England could be exciting for him. Manchester United have been linked with multiple players, and journalist Ben Jacobs has now claimed that they are keeping tabs on the former Leeds United player as well.

Manchester United have to get the deal done, and it remains to be seen whether they come forward with an official offer for the English defender in the summer. They need a long-term replacement for Harry Maguire, and Cresswell would be a superb investment for them. He has shown his ability in the French league, and he has the quality to succeed in England as well.

Ben Jacobs confirmed to Leeds United News: “One player they really like that’s a new name that I can bring to the mix, is Charlie Cresswell, who used to be at Leeds United, England U21 international.

“Wolfsburg came very close to signing him in January. But they were not able to meet the Toulouse valuation, so he’s still there.

“He’s playing every week in Ligue 1, and along with a few other names, he’s one of the profiles that Man United are looking at”.

The 23-year-old is a promising player with a lot of potential, and he could develop into a Manchester United player with the right guidance. They have done well to groom young players in the past, and they could play a key role in his development. If they can sign him for a reasonable amount of money, the deal could prove to be a masterstroke in future.
