Local media fuels Chelsea transfer talk as Barcelona ace grows frustrated

8 April 2026 at 18:42

Chelsea were interested in signing the Barcelona midfielder Marc Casado during the summer transfer window.

The 22-year-old midfielder did not want to leave his boyhood club, and he decided to stay. However, he has struggled for regular opportunities this season. Casado has had just 865 minutes of La Liga football this season, and he needs to play more often.

Casado has also been linked with Arsenal and Manchester United.

Marc Casado needs a move

He is a talented player with a big future, and sitting on the bench at Barcelona will not benefit him. According to a report from publication SPORT via SportWitness, the player’s agent, Jorge Mendes, could be looking for a new destination for his client in the summer.

The report mentions Chelsea and Wolves as past interested parties. It remains to be seen whether Chelsea will renew their interest in Casado at the end of the season. They could use more quality and depth in the middle of the park, and the 22-year-old Spaniard could be a useful acquisition.

Casado could be a handy option

He will be hungry for regular opportunities, and his determination to succeed will be a bonus for the Blues. Casado is likely to be available for a reasonable fee as well. The current situation will certainly serve as encouragement for the London club if they are truly interested in signing the Barcelona player. It remains to be seen whether they can capitalise on the situation and secure the 22-year-old’s services.

Casado has the technical attributes to succeed in the Premier League, and he could develop into an important player for Chelsea. The Blues have done well to groom young players in the past, and they could play a key role in his development. The opportunity to join one of the biggest clubs in the Premier League, especially if they can offer him regular opportunities, will be hard to turn down for the young midfielder.

From Spain: Arsenal & Man Utd transfer target instructs agent to get him transfer this summer

8 April 2026 at 09:29

Barcelona midfielder Marc Casado has reportedly told his agent to get him a transfer away from the club this summer after a lack of playing time.

The 22-year-old has struggled to establish himself as a regular in Hansi Flick’s side, starting only nine La Liga games and two Champions League matches this season.

Casado has been on Arsenal’s radar in recent times and it now looks like he’s eager to leave Barcelona, according to Cadena SER.

Barca director Deco is said to be aware of the situation, and this will likely have other clubs on alert as well.

Where next for Marc Casado?

Casado is a talented player who’s been unfortunate to be up against a lot of competition in this Barcelona side, so he’ll surely have some decent offers this summer.

Manchester United have also previously been mentioned as admirers of the Spain international in a report from Football Insider, and the Red Devils could do with strengthening in midfield for next season.

Arsenal might also do well to add some depth in that department, though it’s perhaps also hard to imagine Casado starting a lot of games at the Emirates Stadium due to the presence of Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi.

Still, there’s some risk in moving for someone like Casado after a season spent mostly on the bench, so perhaps he’ll have to wait before getting himself another big move.

Casado came up through Barcelona’s academy, so it could be a smart move for them to sell him if he’s not performing, as it gives them the chance to make pure profit on a player they didn’t have to spend a transfer fee on in the past.

Barca fans like seeing homegrown players coming through, but Casado is perhaps not quite at the right level for this team, and the club also have long-standing financial issues that need to come into consideration.
