Official: Rome Derby rescheduled, new date and kick-off time for Roma vs. Lazio

12 May 2026 at 16:02

The Prefect of Rome has ordered that the Derby Della Capitale, initially set for this Sunday, be moved to Monday to avoid a clash with the Italian Open tennis Final, a decision that will likely result in four more league games being rescheduled.

The Derby della Capitale between Roma and Lazio, initially scheduled for Sunday, May 17 at 12:30 CET, has been moved to Monday, May 18, with kick-off time at 20:45 CET (19:45 BST).

It’s a decision taken by the Roma Prefect due to security concerns.

The Italian Open Tennis Final is scheduled for Sunday at the Foro Italico, adjacent to the Stadio Olimpico, with more than 20,000 fans expected to attend. Due to security concerns, Italian authorities have decided to change the date of the derby.

The Rome Prefect’s decision poses a significant issue for Lega Serie A, given that the last two rounds of the season must be played simultaneously for clubs competing for the same target.

Four more Serie A games rescheduled?

In this case, Roma, Milan, Juventus, Napoli and Como are still fighting for a place in the Champions League, meaning they all have to play at the same time.

Technically, Lega Serie A will also move those games to Monday, 18 at 20:45 CET, but an official decision has yet to be taken.

Juventus will host Fiorentina in the next round, Milan will travel to Genoa, Napoli will visit Pisa and Como will host Parma.

Serie A Week 37 fixtures official with 5 games in early slot

11 May 2026 at 22:15

It is now official that the entire Serie A Week 37 calendar will be played on Sunday, including five games kicking off at 11.30 UK time (12.30 CEST) including Roma-Lazio, Genoa-Milan and Juventus-Fiorentina.

In Serie A it is traditional for the final two rounds to be played simultaneously if teams are still battling for position, that way it will ensure fairness and no advantage of knowing the other results first.

This is causing a huge problem for the organisers, because the fight for Europe is extraordinarily tight and involves several clubs.

With that in mind, and the presence of the Italian Open tennis final also at the Foro Italico this weekend, the focus will all be in the early slot.

Roma-Lazio, Como-Parma, Genoa-Milan, Juventus-Fiorentina and Pisa-Napoli will all kick off on Sunday at 11.30 UK time (12.30 CEST).

However, if Napoli win this evening against Bologna and therefore guarantee a top four finish, then their match with Pisa can be shifted to 17.00 UK (18.00 CEST).

The only afternoon fixture is Inter-Verona, which is now irrelevant, while Atalanta-Bologna is later.

The remaining three matches are important for the relegation zone, so they too all have to be simultaneous at 19.45 UK time (20.45 CEST).

Argentina call several Serie A players for 2026 World Cup, but not Dybala

11 May 2026 at 20:54

Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni has named the 55-man longlist of players for the 2026 World Cup, including Lautaro Martinez, Matias Soulé and Nico Paz, but not Paulo Dybala.

The Seleccion are the reigning World Champions, having won the trophy in 2022 in Qatar, and go into this tournament in the USA, Canada and Mexico as one of the favourites.

There is no shortage of talent to choose from and many of them ply their trade in Serie A.

Lautaro Martinez is not in doubt, as the Inter striker and Capocannoniere was a key figure in their Copa America triumph two years ago.

Others included in the 55-man longlist who play in Serie A are Como talent Nico Paz, Roma’s Soulé, Como midfielder Maximo Perrone, Bologna striker Santiago Castro and Parma centre-forward Mateo Pellegrino.

Nico Gonzalez is there too, currently on loan at Atletico Madrid from Juventus.

However, Roma veteran Dybala is not even in the extended Argentina list, meaning he has no hope of participating in the World Cup this summer.

La Joya just completed his comeback from injury and had his first start since January 25, but it was not enough to convince Scaloni.

Someone who is included for Argentina is Gianluca Prestianni, the Benfica winger currently suspended after alleged racist insults towards Vinicius Junior of Real Madrid during a Champions League match.

Lionel Messi is there too, although the legend now at Inter Miami has not yet confirmed he wants to be at the World Cup for Argentina.

Gasperini’s sarcastic response to Parma’s protests over late penalty: ‘Cuesta is right’

11 May 2026 at 15:06

Roma coach Gian Piero Gasperini ironically responded to Parma’s protests over a late penalty in their Serie A meeting on Sunday: ‘Carlos Cuesta is right…’

Roma completed a stunning comeback in their latest Serie A match against Parma, securing a 3-2 win at the Stadio Tardini with two goals in stoppage time.

Donyell Malen converted a spot kick at minute 101, allowing Roma to catch Milan in fourth with 67 points and just two rounds remaining.

The late penalty for the Giallorossi infuriated Parma coach Cuesta, who demanded “respect” for the Gialloblu during his post-match interviews.

“I think what happened is obvious; the whole stadium and all of Italy saw it. Parma deserve respect,” the Spaniard told DAZ, as quoted by Gazzetta.

Gasperini’s sarcastic response to Parma’s protests

During his post-match press conference, Gasperini replied sarcastically: “There are the images; the whole of Italy will see them. Cuesta is right. They all seem very clear to me,” said the Roma boss.

“I understand the disappointment of losing in stoppage time. They played with extraordinary spirit, and that’s good for the league. Winning for us is a great source of satisfaction. We had many chances, and Suzuki was outstanding. The numbers speak for themselves, as do the incidents. It would have been a cruel blow to lose this match, so I understand the bitterness.”

Roma were awarded a late penalty after a challenge between Sascha Britschgi and Devyne Rensch, who fell to the ground in Parma’s penalty box following a mutual shirt tug.

Referee Daniele Chiffi initially didn’t give the penalty, but then changed his mind after a pitchside VAR review.

Gasperini was so nervous that he didn’t even watch Malen’s attempt, but he celebrated wildly with his players once the Dutchman converted the spot-kick.

Parma 2-3 Roma – Gasperini cagey on Dybala future & hails ‘incredibly motivated’ Malen

10 May 2026 at 23:02

Gian Piero Gasperini was in jubilant but measured mood after Roma’s extraordinary 2-3 comeback win at Parma, praising the spirit of his squad while remaining deliberately vague on Paulo Dybala’s future after the Argentine suggested the derby would be his final home appearance for the club.

According to his post-match interviews with DAZN and Sky Sport, via RomaNews.eu, Gasperini admitted the closing stages had tested even his nerves.

“It has happened very rarely to me to turn a game around in stoppage time from 2-1 to 3-2,” he said.

“It is testament to the heart these boys have. For the first time I did not watch the penalty, I was looking at the crowd, but there was the scoreboard and I saw it anyway.”

Parma 2-3 Roma – Gasperini refuses to be drawn on Dybala exit as Malen hailed as transformative signing

When told that Dybala had publicly stated the derby would be his last home match, Gasperini was carefully non-committal.

“He said that? Well, maybe, who knows,” he said. “He was excellent again today, coming back after a long time out and giving us real quality. It is a shame not to have had him for so much of the season.”

Gasperini was more expansive on Donyell Malen, whose penalty proved the decisive moment.

“On the penalty, it is technique, everyone went for Dybala and they disturbed him, but he hit the post,” he said. “On Malen, he is a calm and not very expansive person. He integrated into the dressing room and has been extraordinary. He has incredible motivation and has raised our level.”

The Roma coach also singled out the impact of his substitutes as evidence of collective growth.

“The fact that we can change games with the players who come on means we are more prepared,” he said. “Rensch scored and won the penalty, that was the decisive change. But compliments to the players for how they came on. This group has shown its character from the first day.”

On the broader picture, Gasperini acknowledged Roma had been fortunate at moments, with Suzuki producing several stunning saves to keep Parma level before the late turnaround. “It seemed like a bewitched match,” he said. “Then everything happened in the final minutes.”

Parma 2-3 Roma – Cuesta fumes at ‘disrespect’ but ‘proud’ of ‘so many positives’

10 May 2026 at 22:51

Parma head coach Carlos Cuesta was left fuming after his side’s 2-3 defeat to Roma, accusing the visitors of disrespect while insisting he was proud of his players’ efforts in a dramatic match that was ultimately decided by a Donyell Malen penalty in the 101st minute.

According to his post-match interview with DAZN, via TuttoMercatoWeb, Cuesta stopped short of spelling out exactly what he felt had crossed a line, but made clear he believed several incidents had unfairly shaped the game’s outcome.

“At Parma we try to be ourselves and to face people with respect,” he said. “But sometimes you have to understand why things happen. From 2-1 to 2-3, obvious things happened, and it is not just about the penalty area, it is the whole dynamic that leaves me feeling this way. They showed disrespect to us. There were events that conditioned the dynamics of the match too much. Against Napoli I was the first to say it was not a penalty, but today there were many small things I did not like.”

Cuesta proud of Parma’s mentality despite late collapse against Roma

Despite his frustration, Cuesta was equally keen to highlight the positives.

“There is both bitterness about the result and pride at having done many good things,” he said.

“It was not easy to turn a game like today’s around against a strong opponent. And I hold tight to the mentality of these players, who even with their objective already achieved always want to represent Parma in the best possible way.”

On his substitutions, Cuesta explained the thinking behind replacing Strefezza with Pellegrino.

“We wanted to win, the choices were made for that reason,” he said. “Strefezza had no more than 55 minutes in his legs and we wanted to exploit Pellegrino’s physical strength. Those who came on did well, those who did not were ready.”

Parma host Como in their next fixture, and Cuesta confirmed that Britschgi will miss the game through suspension, while several other players are being assessed day by day due to ongoing physical issues.

Parma 2-3 Roma – Dybala: ‘No contact about renewal; the derby will be my last home match’

10 May 2026 at 22:34

Paulo Dybala has revealed he has received no contact from Roma regarding a contract renewal, confirming that next weekend’s derby against Lazio will be his final home appearance for the club if no agreement is reached, after Roma’s stunning 3-2 comeback win at Parma kept their Champions League hopes alive.

According to comments made to Sky Sport after the match, via LaRoma24, Dybala was candid about his uncertain future.

“I would like to know my future too,” he said. “The contract ends in two matches. The derby, as my contract states, will be my last match in front of our fans.”

Roma must win against their arch-rivals to keep their race for Champions League football alive, with the teams chasing a place in Europe’s premier competition all close together with just two weekends left.

Juventus, Milan, Roma and Como are all within just three points of one another, with just two able to take their place in the top four.

Napoli are in a good position and can all-but guarantee their spot if they beat Bologna on Monday evening.

Dybala future unresolved as Roma chase Champions League with final-day drama

Asked directly whether the club had been in touch, Dybala’s answer was brief and telling. “No,” he said.

The Argentine’s situation casts a long shadow over a remarkable evening for Roma, who trailed before fighting back to win through a Donyell Malen penalty in the 101st minute, a result that temporarily lifts them level with Milan on 67 points in fourth place, with the Rossoneri facing Atalanta later on Sunday.

You can follow all the action from tonight’s match, as well as relieving the action from Roma’s win, on our Live Blog.

Dybala was characteristically generous in deflecting individual focus back onto the collective.

“This is a team that gives everything until the end,” he said. “We know Champions League qualification does not depend only on us, but we will fight until the last moment.”

Serie A | Parma 2-3 Roma: Malen secures incredible comeback victory

10 May 2026 at 22:05

Roma scraped an extraordinary 3-2 thriller at the 101st minute with a Donyell Malen penalty after Parma had turned it around to lead 2-1 at the 87th.

The Giallorossi were right back in the push for Champions League football after thrashing Fiorentina 4-0, but the pressure was on after Juventus won 1-0 away to Lecce last night. Paulo Dybala started with Donyell Malen and Matias Soulé for only the second time after January 25, with Lorenzo Pellegrini, Bryan Zaragoza, Artem Dovbyk and Evan Ferguson injured, but Neil El Aynaoui returned from suspension. The Ducali were already safe, but missed Adrian Bernabé, Gaetano Oristanio and Matija Frigan.

See how it all unfolded on the Liveblog.

Malen had the ball in the net after nine minutes when controlling a long ball over the top and flicking it around Zion Suzuki to deposit into an empty net, but he was flagged offside.

Nesta Elphege’s acrobatic volley was charged down, but Gianluca Mancini had penalty appeals when he went to control a Dybala pass and got there before Lautaro Valenti, who kicked him in the back of the ankle, but VAR decided not to recommend an On-Field Review.

Roma did score moments later, as Manu Kone intercepted in midfield, Dybala’s one-touch pass laid it off perfectly for Malen to beat the on-rushing Suzuki.

Mario Hermoso flashed a dangerous ball across the face of goal just beyond Malen, then Soulé should’ve made it 2-0 when his free header thumped the far post on a Dybala cross.

Mile Svilar was almost caught out by a poor Evan Ndicka back-pass, forced to make a desperate tackle on Gabriel Strefezza, while there was nobody ready to meet the Emanuele Valeri roll across and Hans Nicolussi Caviglia blasted off target.

Parma equalised within moments of the restart, as Nicolussi Caviglia intercepted a wayward Hermoso pass and set up Strefezza, who drilled a precise snooker-shot into the far bottom corner from just inside the area.

Malen almost replied immediately, but Suzuki made the save at the near post, then Parma had the ball in the net again on 55 minutes. Mateo Pellegrino’s header from a corner had looped in, but the offside flag was up for Mariano Troilo, who was considered to be interfering with play near Svilar.

Christian Ordonez also volleyed just wide of an open goal after Svilar’s panicked punch, while El Aynaoui nodded a Wesley cross off target.

Dybala sparked a counter-attack, forcing Suzuki into a huge save on Malen, though Pisilli blasted the rebound over the bar.

Pisilli did get the shot on target from eight yards from a Malen pull-back, but was denied by an extraordinary Alessandro Circati defensive block.

Instead, Parma turned the game around completely when Mandela Keita combined with Ordonez, controlling the ball over the top with his chest and drilling through a sea of legs from 12 yards. It was a very rare goal for the midfielder, one celebrated wildly by his proud mother in the stands.

Troilo made a crucial block after Suzuki fumbled a cross, preventing the Gianluca Mancini tap-in. Roma managed to draw level for 2-2 deep into stoppages, as a corner got trapped in a crowd of players, hitting Mancini’s arm as he was flat on the turf, eventually laid off for Devyne Rensch to fire in hard and low from just inside the area. Parma protested, but VAR checked and gave the all-clear.

Roma then had penalty appeals when the referee gave a free kick against Rensch for a wrestling match with Sascha Britschgi, but he changed his mind when seeing the VAR On-Field Review, awarding a spot-kick and second yellow card for Britschgi.

Dybala handed the ball to Malen, who converted into the near top corner after a short run-up to give all three precious points for the Giallorossi.

Gasperini: ‘The right moment for Dybala, Roma must win and hope’

10 May 2026 at 19:27

Gian Piero Gasperini explains why Paulo Dybala gets his first Roma start since January 25, admitting they must ‘win and hope’ Juventus or Milan slip up for a top four finish.

It kicks off at the Stadio Tardini at 17.00 UK time (18.00 CEST).

You can follow all the build-up and action as it happens from today’s Serie A games on the Liveblog.

Paulo Dybala gets his first start since January 25, which is also the only previous time Roma played this trident with Matias Soulé and Donyell Malen together, during a 1-1 draw with Milan.

Neil El Aynaoui returns from suspension, leaving only Lorenzo Pellegrino, Bryan Zaragoza, Artem Dovbyk and Evan Ferguson on the absentee list.

“This is the right moment for Dybala, he has recovered and already had a few substitute appearances, so he starts today,” Gasperini told Sky Sport Italia.

The Giallorossi got themselves back in the race for Champions League football after thrashing Fiorentina 4-0 last week, taking advantage of Milan, Juventus and Como all dropping points.

The pressure is on them today, though, as Juventus won 1-0 away to Lecce last night and Como did the same at Verona this afternoon.

“Parma undoubtedly are very good at defending deep, they are well-organised and earned some good results playing in this style, but can also be dangerous when they attack.

“This is a fundamental match for us, but we are in good shape going in.”

Gasperini was asked if Roma were chasing down Juventus or Milan in the final strait, seeing as the Rossoneri are stuttering badly.

“We need to focus on ourselves, because there is no margin for error, all we can do is win and hope. We need Juve to get one game wrong, or Milan two.”

The last few weeks have been largely about the situation off the field at Roma, with the departure of Claudio Ranieri, and reports director of sport Ricky Massara will follow suit.

Serie A official line-ups: Parma vs. Roma

10 May 2026 at 19:03

Donyell Malen, Matias Soulé and Paulo Dybala start as Roma try to keep up in the race for fourth spot, visiting Nesta Elphege’s Parma.

It kicks off at the Stadio Tardini at 17.00 UK time (18.00 CEST).

You can follow all the build-up and action as it happens from today’s Serie A games on the Liveblog.

The Giallorossi blew the fight for Champions League football wide open with last week’s 4-0 hammering of Fiorentina, taking advantage of Juventus, Milan and Como all dropping points.

Juve won 1-0 away to Lecce last night, so it is now up to Gian Piero Gasperini’s side to respond.

Paulo Dybala is surprisingly back in the starting XI, with Lorenzo Pellegrini, Bryan Zaragoza, Evan Ferguson and Artem Dovbyk out injured.

It means La Joya completes the trio upfront with Soulé and top scorer Malen, his first start since January 25 against Milan, which was the only previous time these three started together.

Neil El Aynaoui is available again after a one-match ban, but Manu Koné and Wesley shook off knocks.

Parma have already guaranteed their Serie A safety and saw their four-match unbeaten run ended by Scudetto victors Inter.

Adrian Bernabé suffered a muscular injury in that game and is out along with Gaetano Oristanio and Matija Frigan.

Nesta Elphege is given a rare start after his supersub performances with Gabriel Strefezza, sending Mateo Pellegrino to the bench.

Serie A: Parma vs. Roma – Probable line-ups and where to watch on TV

10 May 2026 at 12:06

Roma will have their opportunity to respond to Juventus when they take on Parma away from home on Sunday evening, as Serie A’s Champions League race heads towards its conclusion.

Hosts Parma have won two of their last fixtures in Serie A, but fell to a 2-0 defeat against Inter last weekend in the game that won the Nerazzurri the Scudetto for 2025-26.

They find themselves in 13th place ahead of kick-off and have already confirmed their top-flight status for next season.

Roma have responded well since their 5-2 defeat against Inter back in April. They have gone four matches unbeaten since then, winning three, with their most recent ending in a 4-0 scoreline against Fiorentina.

They start the day in fifth place, three points behind Milan in fourth and four points behind Juventus in third heading into the final three games of the season.

Carlos Cuesta is expected to stick with the same front two of Lorenzo Pellegrino and Gabriel Strefezza, but could make some alterations to the midfield three in his 3-5-2. Sky Sport Italia claims that several combinations have been tested ahead of the visit from Roma.

Gian Piero Gasperini, meanwhile, is likely to stick with a similar line-up to the one that put four past Fiorentina last time out. It could be an unchanged Giallorossi XI, led by Donyell Malen, Matias Soule and Niccolo Pisilli in attack.

Kick-off is due at 17.00 BST.
