Myles Garrett trade from Browns hurts Cleveland deeper than football
It is easy to see why Cleveland Browns fans are among the most emotionally distraught in the NFL.
Myles Garrett, future NFL Hall of Famer, is the latest first round pick to leave town and head for Los Angeles. It brings up unresolved feelings from LeBron James leaving and to a lesser extent Odell Beckham Jr.
The other unresolved issue Garrett’s departure presents is what happens to the work he has done in the city including his minority ownership of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Garrett often called Cleveland his second home
The Texas native was proud to call Cleveland his second home, and he put his money where his mouth was. Garrett invested in improvements to downtown Cleveland, commissioning artists to paint murals.
Garrett was also an eager investor in the Cavaliers, frequently spotted at the team’s games. Will he sell his minority stake in the Cavs?
He embraced Cleveland, and Cleveland embraced him.
Now Cleveland is left feeling dejected yet again. Fans will blame the Browns for wasting another player’s prime and not affording him legitimate opportunities to play for a contender so he could retire as a Brown.

Will Garrett win in Los Angeles
It will be extremely bittersweet if Garrett is able to win a Super Bowl in Los Angeles. Cavs fans will also be pained if he is spotted at Lakers or Clippers games.
I can’t help but wonder if Garrett was eager to leave and embark upon this Rams opportunity not only for the Super Bowl possibilities, but also because his girlfriend Olympic champion Chloe Kim is a California native.
In the end, it doesn’t really matter. Cleveland fans have been delivered this gut punch before and now have to process and deal with it yet again. The only consolation is that the Rams are not scheduled to play the Browns this season.
