Claude maker Anthropic has reportedly begun work on its own custom AI chip and is in talks with Samsung Electronics to manufacture it.

According to TheInformation (via SemiconductorsX), Claude creator Anthropic is exploring possibilities to develop its own custom AI chip, and Samsung may help make it happen.

For Anthropic, the logic is pretty straightforward. Claude is expensive to train and even more expensive to run at scale, and Nvidia GPUs are not exactly getting cheaper or easier to secure.

A custom chip could trim those costs, improve efficiency, and give the rising AI startup Anthropic more control over how its models behave in training and inference.

Samsung Foundry has spent years building relationships across the AI hardware ecosystem, supplying advanced chips and memory to major tech players.

Adding Anthropic to that list would fit neatly into Samsung’s broader ambition to become a more serious force in AI semiconductor manufacturing, especially as it continues competing with TSMC.

Apple will reportedly launch its first foldable iPhone later this year, and it’s expected to grab a 29% market share in 2026. The company is entering the segment late, but its grand entry will hand a significant share.

According to Counterpoint Research, Apple foldable iPhone will seize 29 percent market share upon its release. A market share ranging around 30 percent will give a big blow to leading players, including Samsung.

If these projections hold true, Apple would overtake Huawei (24%) to claim the number two spot in the foldable phone market, trailing only Samsung. The Korean tech giant may lead the segment with 31 percent market share.

Samsung is still expected to rank No.1 with a 31% share; Apple is forecast to contribute around 29% of foldable smartphone panel procurement in its first year; and Huawei is expected to account for around 24%.

Counterpoint Research predicted that the iPhone Fold would ignite competition within the foldable phone market and drive up average selling prices.

Apple will not immediately displace Samsung and Huawei, but it will expand the market and shift competition toward higher ASPs, stronger reliability and lower-crease wide book-type foldables.

Ahead of Apple’s foldable debut, Huawei and Samsung launched their tri-fold phones. The phones are incredible, but didn’t ship at scale. They were just crafted to reiterate the technological prowess of the manufacturers.

Apple’s foldable entry is benefiting Samsung Display. The two companies have signed a multi-year agreement for OLED supply. Display panel makers, other than Samsung Display, can’t enter the iPhone Ultra supply chain anytime soon.

Samsung Galaxy Jump 5 phone is now official, and it will be available for purchase starting tomorrow, July 3, across South Korea.

South Korea’s KT will sell the Samsung Galaxy Jump 5 phone in the country. Interested buyers can purchase the device through KT stores in Korea and the official online mall, KT[dot]com.

Galaxy Jump 5 is different from its predecessors

Galaxy Jump 5 is based on the Global Galaxy A27. Samsung has recently unveiled the smartphone globally, and it’s also going on sale starting tomorrow.

The biggest difference is that this is the first model built on a Galaxy A series phone. Previous Jump models have their roots in the Galaxy M series. This shift alone secures plenty of new AI features and a more premium design.

The device brings AI features such as Circle to Search, which displays search results when a circle is drawn on screen; Object Eraser that removes unwanted elements from photos; and tools to transcribe and translate voice recordings and calls.

Colors, price and offers

Galaxy Jump 5 will be available in three colors, including Black, Light Green, and Light Pink. It comes with a price tag of KRW 545,600, which converts to roughly $350.

Customers who activate the device by July 5 can receive a “Digital Onnuri Gift Certificate” rebate worth up to KRW 107,000 (~ $70) as part of “Samsung Appreciation Festival” promotion.

Additionally, the first 10,000 shoppers will receive a three-month subscription to the reading platform “Millie’s Library” and a character-collaboration power bank package.

Samsung will launch a new Blood pressure trend feature, and it will be available on the upcoming Watch. The company announced it in a Health app notice focused on removing the Vascular Load feature in the US.

Blood pressure is already available on Galaxy Watches, while the new “trend” feature will first launch on the Galaxy Watch 9 and Watch Ultra 2. The devices are set to be unveiled in late July with sales starting in early August.

Samsung Health is introducing a Blood Pressure Trend feature that lets users monitor how their blood pressure changes over time.

After the initial setup, the feature periodically checks blood pressure and presents long-term trends, along with basic tips that encourage healthier daily habits.

Before using the feature, users must calibrate their Galaxy Watch with a compatible blood pressure cuff.

Samsung also notes that Blood Pressure Trend is designed only for wellness tracking and should not be used to diagnose, treat, or manage any medical condition.

Samsung is internally testing Android 17-based One UI 9.0 software for various Galaxy devices. This activity is running in parallel to the Open Beta Program. The public beta update is exclusively available for the Galaxy S26 series.

One UI 9.0 update will bring Android 17 to Samsung devices. The official debut is set for late July, while the rollout will take a few more weeks to start. Samsung will first prioritize new devices rather than sharing software advancements.

Samsung picked mid-May as the timeline to announce and start the One UI 9 Beta Program. As of the third week of June, the company has already rolled out three Beta builds to Galaxy S26 users in six countries around the world.

Samsung Electronics’ HBM4E AI chip is doing great, as its reliability test yield reportedly hit a major milestone. A new industry report reveals the current progress of Samsung’s 7th-generation high-bandwidth memory yield.

According to FNNews, Samsung has secured real progress for the HBM4E AI chip as well as the D1d DRAM process. After official unveiling, the company is working on the new HBM solution, eyeing supply to clients in the future.

Samsung’s reliability test yield for HBM4E has risen to over 70 percent. The D1d DRAM process is also showing favorable outcomes. If these achievements persist, the Korean tech giant will continue to benefit over the next couple of years.

The yield figures tied to HBM4E have been announced by Samsung CTO Song Jae-hyuk at an internal management briefing. 70 percent is decent, but the company will continue to work on further improving the yield.

Samsung should now target 80 percent yield, which is considered a “mature yield” stage. At this rate, HBM clients will weigh more on Samsung. It will also help Samsung solidify its competition against SK Hynix.

Earlier this year, Samsung unveiled HBM4, followed by HBM4E. The former is set to power Nvidia’s Vera Rubin AI accelerator. HBM4E is still under the labs, but future applications are certain given its improvements.

If reports are to be believed, Nvidia may source HBM4E for its Vera Rubin Ultra. This AI accelerator product is expected to go official next year.

Samsung announced an ambitious investment for South Korea’s Honam region, pledging KRW 425 trillion (about $273 billion) for chip, AI, and energy expansion.

The headline piece is the accelerated timeline for the Yongin National Industrial Complex. Giheung, Hwaseong, and Pyeongtaek have carried Samsung’s chip ambitions for years.

Now Yongin is being fast-tracked to keep pace with what the company expects to be a sharp rise in global semiconductor demand, with Gwangju emerging as the leading candidate.

Samsung is reportedly drawn to the incentives on the table: power, water, workforce access, and housing conditions that could make standing up a new cluster faster and cheaper than starting from scratch elsewhere.

If it goes through, construction would begin in the second half of this year, with initial operations targeted for 2028.

The AI data center piece, dubbed Solaseado, is arguably the more forward-looking part of the plan. It’s positioned as a support hub for government AI transformation efforts spanning finance, defense, and public services.

In addition, Samsung C&T will invest in carbon-free power, nuclear-linked hydrogen production, and green hydrogen tech via SOEC advancement.

Samsung aims to establish a digital twin-based innovation hub factory and production facilities for heat pumps and HVAC systems within the Gwangju plant, and construct a global state-of-the-art logistics center in Gochang, Jeonbuk Province.

If Samsung follows through, South Korea’s semiconductor map gets a second center of gravity outside the capital region for the first time in a long while.
