Elon Musk thanks Samsung for Tesla AI5 chip production; design officially completes
Elon Musk confirmed on X that Tesla AI5 chip has cleared the design finalization stage, and thanked Samsung and TSMC for production.
Tesla CEO called the AI5 one of the most widely produced AI chips in history. Teslaβs AI5 chip is built for two things: autonomous vehicles and humanoid robots. Thatβs the Optimus line, which Tesla has been pushing hard alongside its self-driving software.
The chip represents the next generation of in-house silicon Tesla has been developing to cut its dependence on third-party hardware and control its own compute destiny.
Samsung and TSMC are splitting production duties on AI5. Musk let slip in the same post that work is already underway on AI6 and something called Dojo 3. AI6 production is penciled in exclusively for Samsung Electronics.
Musk had previously floated the idea that AI6βs tape-out could come as early as December of this year. Landing sole-source production rights on a chip Tesla is calling one of its most ambitious yet, is exactly the kind of win Samsung has been chasing.
What Muskβs post sketches is a roadmap where Teslaβs silicon ambitions scale fast, and Samsung sits at the center of that trajectory. AI5 splits, but AI6 goes to Samsung alone; Dojo 3 is mentioned in the same breath.

Well, TSMC doesnβt run an X account. So when Musk went to tag them in his post, he ended up tagging TSC instead, a completely separate semiconductor company.
