Roger Goodell reveals when NFL will return to Ireland

This article originally appeared on SteelersNOW.com.

The Pittsburgh Steelers helped make NFL history during the 2025 season as they hosted the Minnesota Vikings in the first NFL regular season game ever played in Ireland. So when does the NFL plan to return to play in Ireland?

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell revealed hopefully within the next few years.

“We did have a wonderful time. Both clubs had a great time. I think our fans had a spectacular time,” Goodell said during his annual state of the NFL news conference ahead of the Super Bowl on Monday. “That game had more people come from the states from an international game than any game in our series.”

This season’s game in Ireland was a smashing hit. According to NFL Media, the Steelers-Vikings game averaged 7.9 million viewers (TV+Digital), making it the second-most NFL Network watched game ever.

Colin Cowherd Explains Why Steelers’ Mike McCarthy Is Underrated

New Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy has been one of the NFL’s most successful head coaches this century. And yet, many NFL fans don’t seem to think of him that way.

Perhaps they feel his teams underachieved with Aaron Rodgers and Dak Prescott. He also isn’t the most media-savvy or smartest-sounding coach in the league. However, he deserves more respect for all the games he’s won and success he’s had, not to mention his Super Bowl ring.

On Friday’s episode of “The Herd,” Colin Cowherd praised McCarthy and explained why he’s so underrated compared to his peers.

"A lot of Mike McCarthy's problem, like Android, is the marketing and branding… Mike McCarthy 12 times has had a top 10 scoring offense."

“A lot of Mike McCarthy’s problem, like Android, is the marketing and branding,” Cowherd said. “Mike McCarthy 12 times has had a top-10 scoring offense.”

Accordingly, Cowherd feels good about the Steelers hiring McCarthy and believes they’ll be better offensively, regardless of who’s under center for them next season. He also thinks McCarthy will continue to have success there based on his excellent track record.

“I think he’s the offensive version of Mike Tomlin,” Cowherd said. “Mike McCarthy is competent. They’re not gonna fall off…I feel like you’re getting competency…Very, very, very high floor.”

Tomlin had a ton of success with Pittsburgh, winning a Super Bowl himself and never enduring a losing season, so that’s a compliment. Both fell short a lot in the postseason after winning their title, however, so hopefully McCarthy can have more success in that regard.
