Samsung plans 5G upgrade for Galaxy Watch Ultra 2
Samsung is working on a new smartwatch β the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2. This watch is expected to be the first Samsung smartwatch with 5G connectivity. This means the watch will be able to connect to the internet using a 5G network on its own, without needing a phone nearby.
The first Galaxy Watch Ultra was released with only 4G/LTE support. It did not have a Bluetooth-only version. Now, the new Galaxy Watch Ultra model is expected to take things further by adding 5G support. This is an important step for Samsungβs smartwatch line.
Having 5G on a watch may not be useful for watching videos like Netflix. However, it can help with faster data transfer. This means apps can work more quickly, messages can send faster, and online features can respond better. In some cases, it may also help save battery life, depending on how the watch is used.

The Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 is expected to launch in the summer of 2026. It may be announced in July, along with the Galaxy Watch 9 series. Samsung usually releases new watches during the summer. The company is also expected to launch new foldable phones around the same time.
The new Ultra model is being developed with a name connected to the Watch 9. This suggests that it may share some design and hardware features with the Galaxy Watch 9. However, the final name is not confirmed yet. It could be called Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 when it is officially released.
If this happens, the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 will be an important upgrade.
