Samsung quietly dropped a SmartThings update that’s less about smart home convenience and more about something the industry rarely admits it’s chasing: genuine peace of mind for people caring for aging parents from a distance.

The headline feature is called Care on Call. When a caregiver calls a parent who’s part of the Family Care setup, a floating pop-up surfaces before the call connects. It shows the first activity of the day, the most recent movement detected, and local weather.

The Safety Patrol feature got sharper, too. If the care recipient goes quiet for longer than a set window, the Bespoke AI Jet Bot Steam Ultra can be dispatched remotely to sweep the house. The robot carries a camera and two-way audio.

The Care Insight feature now tracks week-over-week shifts in activity, temperature deviation, humidity, and connected device usage.

SmartThings is also pushing Now Brief beyond Samsung phones. TVs from 2024 onward and Family Hub refrigerators from 2021 onward will get the feature in phases. The rollout is automatic: walk near the TV or touch the fridge screen, and it activates.

Samsung’s enhanced Now Brief supports Home Security, Family Care and Pet Care. The function already supports Home Insight, Energy and the Sleep Environment Report.

Through Now Brief, Samsung users can access the useful information needed to care for themselves, their families and their homes at a glance.
