McCoco wins first match back together at Italian Open

Tennis fans love McCoco, the all-American team of Caty McNally and Coco Gauff. The team reunited, for the Italian Open after years apart from WTA doubles tennis competition, and earned a win.

It is such a fun throwback, but the win was far from easy. The match required a tiebreaker and a come from behind win after McCoco dropped the first set.

Gauff has admitted to dealing with issues off court after her Saturday win over Solana Sierra. This came a bit of a surprise as she is very good at separating her professional and personal issues. Teaming with an old friend for a big win might be the best medicine or therapy available.

Can Gauff and McCoco win Italian Open singles and doubles

Stranger things have happened, and last year Jasmine Paolini won the singles title and doubles with Sara Errani so there is a recent precedent.

Gauff is a tremendous clay court player, despite admitting she doesn’t like having dirty feet and shoes after playing on it.

She is also the defending French Open champion and a former French Open doubles champion (with Katerina Siniakova in 2024).

It is very possible for Gauff to run the table in singles and doubles in Rome, but there are plenty of great singles and doubles players still in the mix that could have something to say about the idea. The first one up is fellow American Iva Jovic who Gauff will face in singles on Monday.
