Katherine Legge secures last-minute deal to attempt Indy 500/Coke 600 Double next week
In the late-night hours following the opening Indy 500 practice session, reports emerged that Katherine Legge will attempt the rare Indy 500/Coke 600 Double -- this year. Motorsport.com has since independently confirmed the news as well.
The 45-year-old is already confirmed to be taking part in the 110th running of the Indianapolis 500, driving the No. 11 HMD Motorsports/AJ Foyt Racing Chevrolet for her fifth appearance in the historic event.
However, we now know that she also plans to take part in the 67th running of the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway on the same day -- Sunday, May 24. If successful (and weather-permitting), Legge will be the sixth driver in history to take part in both races on the same day. She will also be the oldest.
“Very few drivers ever get the opportunity to attempt ‘The Double,’ and I do not take that opportunity lightly,” said Legge in a press release. “This challenge is about pushing through perceived limits, betting on yourself, taking risks and trying to do something unique. I am so incredibly grateful to e.l.f. Cosmetics for believing in what this moment represents and for building a community around it.”
Legge made her eighth career Cup Series start this past weekend at Watkins Glen, and she will again drive the No. 78 Live Fast Motorsports Chevrolet at Charlotte Motor Speedway next weekend.
e.l.f. Cosmetics will fund the effort, along with already supporting her in the Indy 500 this year.

Two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Larson is the most recent driver to attempt to complete the 1,100-mile Double between IndyCar's biggest race and NASCAR's longest. In addition to Larson, Robby Gordon, John Andretti, Kurt Busch, and Tony Stewart have also done it. Stewart is the only driver to actually complete every lap, doing so in 2001.
Davy Jones also attempted the Double in 1995, but he failed to qualify for the 600.
Ahead of last weekend's Cup race at Watkins Glen, Legge expressed interest in attempting the Double, but stated that it would depend on sponsorship and support from e.l.f. Cosmetics. It appears that a deal has come together far sooner than anyone expected, with this Double attempt coming together within two weeks of race day.
Legge's best showing in the Indy 500 came in 2012, finishing 22nd. Although she only made her Cup debut just over a year ago, she has completed several oval races in America's top stock car racing division. Her best result came in the 2025 Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis, finishing 17th in the best non-drafting result ever for Live Fast Motorsports. This would be Legge's debut in the Coca-Cola 600, but she ran the NASCAR O'Reilly race at the track last May.
While she is locked into the Indy 500 with no bumping this year, we will have to wait for the official number of Coke 600 entries to be released next Monday to know if she will have to qualify her way into the NASCAR race.
