Samsung UFS 5.0 launches with 5 major upgrades for future AI devices

On June 23, Samsung officially unveiled the UFS 5.0 mobile storage for future AI devices. The next-generation memory solution takes over the UFS 4.1, bringing five major upgrades for future on-device AI applications.

Samsung developed the world’s first UFS 5.0 mobile storage. The company also confirmed that the mass production of this product will begin in the fourth quarter of the year, targeting flagship phones, XR headsets, and AI wearables.

Here are the five upgrades Samsung’s next-gen storage solution brings:

1. Industry-leading 10.8GB/s storage speed

Samsung UFS 5.0 delivers sequential read speeds of up to 10.8GB/s and write speeds of up to 9.5GB/s, offering more than twice the performance of the previous UFS 4.1 standard.

2. Faster data processing for mobile devices

Thanks to intelligent management of a large amount of data, users can expect quicker response times when launching apps, transferring files, and performing demanding tasks.

3. Over 40% better power efficiency

Samsung improved UFS 5.0 power efficiency by over 40% compared to UFS 4.1. New technologies such as clock gating and multi-voltage support help reduce power consumption during data transfers.

4. Smaller design for more flexible devices

The UFS 5.0 package measures just 7.5mm x 13mm x 0.9mm, making it 16.7% smaller than its predecessor. The compact size gives manufacturers more flexibility for smartphone, wearable, and XR device designs.

5. Up to 1TB storage capacity support

Samsung’s UFS 5.0 solution will be available in capacities reaching up to 1TB. This provides future devices with more room for apps, media, files, and advanced software experiences while maintaining high-speed performance.

Looking ahead, Samsung’s UFS 5.0 is expected to debut with the Galaxy S27 series. The Pro and Ultra models are the strongest contenders in 2027.
