Galaxy S27 Pro and Ultra may get UFS 5.0 storage, big upgrade over S26
Samsung may debut UFS 5.0 storage with the Galaxy S27 series next year, but only Pro and Ultra models may be eligible.
Galaxy S27 series is expected to launch with Exynos and Snapdragon chips. Itβs widely rumored that the next-generation Snapdragon processor, likely the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and Gen 6 Pro, will support UFS 5.0 storage.
Weβve heard plenty of rumors tied to the Z Fold 8, Z Fold 8 Wide and Z Flip 8. The next-gen foldables are expected to arrive in July this year. However, the real attraction is slab-style phones, which will land in early 2027.
A new rumor confirmed UFS 5.0 for the Galaxy S27 series, the standard and Plus models may lack this storage upgrade. The South Korean tech giant may keep the new standard limited to the upper-tier models, Pro and Ultra.
Samsung usually launches three flagship models in its Galaxy S lineup. 2027 is expected to add one more model: Pro, starting with the Galaxy S27 series. The smartphone is said to be like the Ultra without the S Pen technology.
UFS 5.0 is a major upgrade over UFS 4.0 and UFS 4.1. The new storage technology offers speeds of up to 10.8Gbps, almost double that of the previous generations. We may also see a major upgrade in the utilization of RAM technology.
Costs of DRAM and NAND flash memory are seeing a steep hike, and it isnβt stopping anytime soon. It will be difficult for Samsung to keep smartphone prices unchanged if they actually bring these crucial hardware upgrades.
