Third-party app stores will soon be available through the Google Play Store in the US

15 July 2026 at 22:00

Running an app store is a profitable business – one that platform makers are keen to protect. That used to be the case with Google too, but the conclusion of a 6-year legal battle with Epic Games has come to a surprise ending that will make third-party app stores that much more accessible. The story started in 2020 when Epic sued Google, alleging that Google held a monopoly in the Android app distribution market and in-app billing services. A jury sided with Epic, but this then went through an appeal process until, eventually, the two companies reached a settlement agreement in...

Samsung's best pre-order perk won't be available for the Galaxy Z Fold8, Fold8 Ultra, and Flip8

15 July 2026 at 21:00

The best part about pre-ordering a new Samsung smartphone has, for the past few years, been that you can get a 'free' storage upgrade. Pay for one storage tier, get the higher one for no additional cost. However, a new report from Korea today claims Samsung will not be offering this perk for the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold8, Fold8 Ultra, and Flip8, which it will unveil on July 22. Instead, the company will only cover 50% of the price difference between the 256GB option and the 512GB model. So basically, you'll pay half of the difference to get the higher storage tier when you...

Once you complete the final payment, the phone will be unlocked and you will be free to switch to a different carrier. 15 July 2026 at 18:00

The free ad-supported tier gets you 1080p @ 60fps streaming with gaming sessions limited to 1 hour. This is a great way to test things out (especially your Internet connection) and might work for games that are played in short...

15 July 2026 at 17:30

Multiple Internet giants have found themselves under the scrutiny of lawmakers, regulators and organizations concerned with the safety of children on the web. Google and its AI Search are the latest to draw criticism. Interestingly, it may have been the success of the Chromebooks that caused this – they are very popular as school laptops. The Common Sense Media organization explains that the thing that separates Google’s AI from all the other AI services is that it is β€œubiquitous on children's personal and school-issued devices.” Who needs to learn math when AI can just solve the...

Meanwhile, Xiaomi's market share fell from 15% to 11%, Oppo's from 12% to 10%, and vivo's from 9% to 8%. As you can see, Samsung still leads the pack and Apple is now a close second....

Google Pixel 11 devices to have the first 2nm smartphone SoC, new modem

13 July 2026 at 18:30

According to a new report from China, Google's Tensor G6 chipset that will be in the Pixel 11 series will be the first smartphone chip to use TSMC’s 2nm process, beating Qualcomm and its Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, MediaTek's Dimensity 9600, and Apple's A20 Pro to the punch. This makes sense as those three SoCs are only expected to be inside devices that are going to be announced in September, while Google has already confirmed that it's unveiling the Pixel 11 family on August 12. An FCC filing for the Pixel 11 Pro Fold has revealed what has been rumored in the past, namely that...

To put this in monetary terms, the average smartphone repair job became KRW 11,000 more expensive – this converts to $7.37 /...

At CES, Samsung showcased a foldable display with no visible crease. We all knew this was a teaser for the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra and now we have proof – someone from...

Weekly poll: will you buy the Nothing Phone (4b)?

12 July 2026 at 11:01

Nothing is narrowing its scope – in January, it announced that it won’t release a flagship in 2026 and last month it canceled the CMF Phone 3 Pro. This only leaves the (4a) phones and now a (4b) model too, a new mid-ranger that was announced earlier this week. Here is a quick price comparison for 8/128GB units. Note that there is an 8/256GB configuration of the (4b) available exclusively in India. Nothing Phone (3a) Lite ...

Weekly poll results: the Honor Magic V6 has many fans, but its price keeps others away

12 July 2026 at 07:41

The Honor Magic V6 is available in Europe at a discounted price of €1,700/Β£1,500 until the end of the month. The EU price is set to go up to €2,300 in August and the UK price relies on a Β£500 voucher, which probably won’t last long. In either case, you get a free Honor Pad 10 and a 24-month screen protection plan. Even so, the price is turning some potential buyers away. In last week’s poll, two nearly equal groups formed – those who are interested in buying the Magic V6 at its current price accounted for 25.3% of the vote, while those who are looking for a discount first accounted for...
