Kyle Stowers homers and Marlins beat Giants 2-1

MIAMI (AP) — Kyle Stowers homered and scored on Otto López's go-ahead double to lead the Miami Marlins to a 2-1 win against the San Francisco Giants on Sunday.

Ryan Gusto and four relievers limited the Giants to four hits as the Marlins won their eighth straight at home. Miami is a major league best 14-4 in June.

Neither team scored after López snapped a 1-all tie in the fourth when his line drive rolled to the warning track in right and scored Stowers from first. Stowers drew a two-out-walk, the only one issued by Logan Webb.

Webb (4-5) scattered five hits over eight innings for his first complete game of the season and fourth of his career. The right-hander has completed eight innings in each of his last three outings.

John King (4-1) relieved Gusto and threw 1 1/3 innings. Calvin Faucher got the next four outs and Michael Petersen threw a perfect eighth. Lake Bachar allowed a leadoff walk against Rafael Devers in the ninth but then retired Jung Hoo Lee and Willy Adames for his first save.

Casey Schmitt singled twice for San Francisco.

Stowers gave Miami an early lead with his homer to lead off the second. He drove the first pitch from Webb 426 feet into the center-field seats for his eighth homer.

The Giants tied it on Schmitt’s run-scoring single in the third.

Gusto gave up one run and three hits while striking out six over 4 1/3 innings.

Before the game, the Marlins placed slugger Liam Hicks on the injured list because of a low back strain and designated infielder Christopher Morel for assignment.

Contreras rips 3-run homer in 8-run inning as Gasser ends drought in Brewers' 9-4 win over Braves

ATLANTA (AP) — William Contreras had four hits, including a three-run homer in Milwaukee's eight-run second inning, and the Brewers beat the Atlanta Braves 9-4 on Sunday to snap a three-game skid.

Sal Frelick added a two-run double off Bryce Elder (5-5) as the Brewers matched their season high for most runs in an inning. They also scored eight runs in the sixth inning of a 13-2 win over Arizona on April 28.

After blowing a ninth-inning lead in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Braves, Milwaukee salvaged one win in the three-game series between NL division leaders.

Brewers left-hander Robert Gasser (1-3) earned his first win since May 15, 2024, against Arizona. Gasser allowed two runs and four hits and one walk. His seven strikeouts and six innings matched career highs.

Atlanta's Rowdy Tellez hit a two-run homer off Chad Patrick in the ninth. Mauricio Dubón had three hits for the Braves.

Elder gave up 12 hits and eight runs in six innings. He has allowed a combined 22 hits and 14 runs in his past two starts, including six runs in four innings in an 8-1 loss at the New York Mets on June 14.

The Brewers sent 11 batters to the plate in the second. Contreras opened the inning with a single before adding the homer into the Brewers' bullpen behind the left-field wall.

Ureña and 3 Angels relievers silence Athletics in a 7-0 victory

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Walbert Ureña and three relievers combined on a five-hitter and the Los Angeles Angels beat the Athletics 7-0 on Saturday night.

Denzer Guzman hit his second home run of the season, Zach Neto and Nolan Schanuel each drove in two runs and the Angels improved to 2-4 on their road trip.

Samy Matera Jr. retired four batters, Ryan Zeferjahn got five outs and Kirby Yates worked the ninth to complete the Angels’ seventh shutout of the season.

Jo Adell and Donovan Walton each had three hits as the Angels bounced back after blowing a late seven-run lead in the series opener Friday.

Ureña (5-5) allowed four hits in five scoreless innings with six strikeouts and no walks. The 22-year-old rookie has gone five innings and given up three earned runs or fewer in 10 consecutive starts, the longest stretch by an Angels rookie pitcher since Ron Romanick accomplished the feat in 10 games in 1984.

Los Angeles scored twice in the first inning off A’s starter J.T. Ginn to take an early lead.

After failing to score with the bases loaded in the third, the Angels pulled away with four runs in the sixth. Neto hit a two-run double down the left field line and Schanuel doubled in two runs with a line drive down the right field line

Guzman hit a solo home run off Geoff Hartlieb in the seventh.

Orioles beat Dodgers 3-2 behind Trevor Rogers' 7 scoreless innings

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Trevor Rogers allowed one hit over a dominating seven scoreless innings and the Baltimore Orioles beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 3-2 on Saturday night.

Shohei Ohtani hit a home run in the ninth inning for the Dodgers after missing Friday’s game for the birth of his second child.

The only hit Rogers allowed came on a bloop single to center field by the Dodgers’ Tommy Edman in the fifth inning. Rogers (4-7) had six strikeouts, walked two and earned his second win in his past 11 starts.

Blaze Alexander had a two-run double for the Orioles, while Samuel Basallo and Leody Taveras each had two hits. Baltimore improved to 2-3 on a nine-game West Coast road trip.

The Orioles solved Dodgers right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto for the second consecutive season after they ended his no-hit bid with two outs in the ninth inning of a September game at Baltimore last year before rallying for the victory.

Yamamoto (7-5) gave up three runs over six innings and had six strikeouts. Edman had two hits for Los Angeles.

The Dodgers nearly rallied for the second consecutive night when Ohtani led off the ninth with a home run off Andrew Kittredge and Edman hit what appeared to be a line drive to right for the final out. But Taveras dropped the ball allowing Freddie Freeman to score before Kyle Tucker struck out against Yennier Cano, who earned his first save.

Baltimore grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second inning on an RBI ground out from Coby Mayo. The Orioles increased their advantage to 3-0 in the fourth inning when Alexander hit a two-out two-run double just inside the third-base bag.
