Kansas City Chiefs sign AFC North safety to bolster secondary
The Kansas City Chiefs have bolstered their secondary through free agency. They signed former Baltimore Ravens safety Alohi Gilman to a three-year, $24.75 million deal, according to Tom Pelissero. Gilman will earn $15 million guaranteed from his new deal.
Career arc
Gilman has broken out into one of the most underrated safeties in the league. The Los Angeles Chargers selected him in the sixth round of the 2020 NFL draft, but he became a permanent starter in the 2023 NFL season. He made a major adjustment in his game, going from a 58.5 PFF grade in 2022 to an 86.1 PFF grade in 2023.

Through the 2023 season, he had 73 combined tackles, two tackles for loss, two interceptions, 10 pass deflections, and two fumble recoveries. The 2024 season was great for him, too. He had 50 combined tackles, an interception, four pass deflections, and a forced fumble.

However, the Chargers wanted to improve their pass rush, so they traded Gilman to the Baltimore Ravens with a 2026 fifth-round pick in exchange for Odafe Oweh and a 2027 seventh-round pick.

Gilman earned his first NFL touchdown on December 14Β against the Cincinnati Bengals when his teammate Kyle Van Noy picked off Joe Burrow. Van Noy handed the ball off to Gilman, who ran it back for an 84-yard touchdown. He finished the 2025 season with a career high 90 combined tackles, a tackle for loss, nine pass deflections, a forced fumble, two fumble recoveries, and a touchdown. Heβll look to make plays for the Chiefsβ secondary.
