Samsung has recently started One UI 8.5 Beta Program for the Galaxy S23 series, but the Ultra model has already jumped to Android 17-based One UI 9 in the early test phase.
The majority of users are on One UI 8.0, built on Android 16. One UI 8.5 Beta is available in select countries, while One UI 9 is being tested in labs. Samsungβs software segment isnβt stopping at all; itβs running at a fast pace.

US variant of the Galaxy S23 Ultra has made its early appearance on Geekbench, running Android version 17, probably atop One UI 9 (via Alfaturk). This confirms Samsung isnβt waiting till the One UI 8.5 rollout completes for the 2023 flagships.
On Geekbench, the device scored 1743 points in single-core and 3919 points in multi-core. The scores are initial, and thereβs always room for improvement. Samsung will further optimize the OS, utilizing the remaining time.

Back in 2023, Samsung launched the Galaxy S23 series. The lineup contains a total of four models: three flagships and one Fan Edition. All come with Android 13-based One UI 5 and guaranteed 4-year OS updates support.
That said, Android 17 is going to be the final major upgrade. Samsungβs version could launch this July, but rollout to existing models may take time. We may see a Beta Program first, months before the official release commences.
One UI 8.5 is currently the latest Android skin for Galaxy users. It brings notable design changes over the Android 16-based One UI 8. The scope of user interface tweaks is not much in One UI 9, but AI features may be elevated.
