Trumbull gymnasts win 3rd consecutive Class L championship; seek 3-peat at State Open

MILFORD - It's a 3-peat for the Trumbull High gymnastics team as the Eagles captured the Class L championship for the third year in a row Saturday at Jonathan Law High School.
Trumbull came in as the favorites (seeded first) and followed through with a winning score of 144.5. Southington took second at 138.100, and Norwich Free Academy was third (137.975).
The Eagles will also look to 3-peat at next week's State Open. They beat Hand in 2024, and topped the Ledyard co-op, this season's Class M champion, in 2025.
"We just have to get in the gym," said Trumbull coach Cathy McMahon. "Just do routine after routine and land our tricks."
Trumbull sophmore Ava Buswell said the Eagles have high expectations.
"I'm really proud of my team, and everything, for winning (the Class L title) three times," Buswell said. "I have the same expectations (about the Open) and think we are going to do really well."
The State Open is Saturday, Feb. 28 at New Milford High starting at noon.
