Early first look at Google Messages custom wallpapers

29 May 2026 at 20:00

Google Messages is getting a new update that will let users customize their chats with themes and wallpapers. This feature has been seen in the latest beta version of the app and may roll out to users soon.

Right now, Google Messages only allows users to change chat colors. With the new update, a new option, Chat themes, will appear in the menu. This will give users more ways to make their chats look different and more personal.

The main new feature is custom wallpapers. Users will be able to choose from many built-in background images provided by Google. There will be different wallpaper categories with colorful and creative designs. Users can also pick their own photos from their phone gallery and use them as chat backgrounds.

Google has also added a reset button. If someone does not like the theme or wallpaper they selected, they can quickly return the chat to its normal look.

The feature is still being tested, so Google may improve it before the official release. Some users noticed that text can be hard to read on dark wallpapers. Google may fix this problem to make chats easier to see.

This update may also help users who are moving from Samsung Messages to Google Messages. Many Samsung users liked using custom backgrounds in their chats. Since Samsung Messages may shut down soon, these new customization features could make switching to Google Messages easier and more attractive.

Google has not shared an official launch date yet. However, because the feature is already working in the beta version, it may become available to more users very soon. The update shows that Google wants to make Messages more modern, fun, and personal for everyone.

Google Messages bringing back a simpler way for SIM switching

28 May 2026 at 22:25

Google Messages is making SIM switching easier again after many users complained about a recent update. Many people use two SIM cards on their phones for work and personal use.

Earlier, the app had a simple SIM switch button inside the chat box. Users could quickly tap it and choose the SIM card they wanted. But Google later removed this easy button from the app.

After the change, switching SIM cards became slow and confusing for many users. People had to open the contact details page, find the SIM option, choose a SIM card, and then return to the chat. This process took more time and annoyed many users.

Now, Google is reportedly trying to improve the experience with a new update in the beta version of Google Messages. When users tap inside the message box, a small pop-up menu now appears on the screen. The menu shows options like AI writing, Autofill, and the new Switch SIM option.

If users tap the Switch SIM button, the app directly opens the SIM selection page. Users can quickly choose which SIM card they want to use for sending messages. After selecting the SIM, they can easily return to the chat and continue texting without many extra steps.

This new option is still not as simple as the old one-tap SIM button that users liked before. However, it is much faster and easier than the recent method introduced by Google. The feature was first seen in testing in late 2025 and is now reaching more beta users.
