Dave Roberts Praises Reliever After Hot Start to Spring Training
Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts had nothing but good things to say about right-handed relief pitcher Justin Wrobleski after his outing Tuesday.
Wrobleski made his first appearance of spring training against the Cleveland Guardians Tuesday, posting a scoreless inning and recording a strikeout on big-leaguer Kyle Manzardo.
“So far he’s playing good,” Roberts said. “For me, it’s a young player who has a good year, you want to see how he responds.
“Justin went into the offseason with a purpose, and came into spring looking really good, throwing the baseball well. I’m excited to see what he can do in 2026.”
“Gavin showed poise, command, and a really good changeup… hasn’t missed a beat.” – Dave Roberts talks with @kirsten_watson about Gavin Stone’s first ST outing, Justin Robleski’s strong start to 2026, and the Dodgers’ lineup depth. #DodgersST ?? pic.twitter.com/nfnF936cbP

The Dodgers went onto win the game, 11-3, and Wrobleski earned the win. Roberts’ comments allude to Wrobleski earning a spot in the Dodgers’ bullpen come Opening Day, and his performance today shows he has what it takes to retain his spot.

How did Justin Wrobleski Play Last Season?
Wrobleski made 24 appearances for the Dodgers in 2024, spending most of the season bouncing between Triple-A and the majors. He posted. 4.32 ERA through 66.2 innings pitched, and struck out 76 batters in the process.
He improved in almost every way from his eight appearances in 2024, shaving more than a run off of his ERA, allowing fewer home runs in nearly twice as many innings, improving his strikeout rate from 16.9% to 27.1%. He also shaved down his walk rate, allowing just 17 in 2025 after allowing 16 in 2024.
While his ERA still at over 4.00, his Fielding Independent Pitching (or FIP) — a metric which measures factors in a pitcher’s control such as home runs, strikeouts and walks — of 2.93 ranked better than All-Stars and Cy Young contenders like Max Fried and Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
Wrobleski made it onto the Dodgers’ roster during the World Series, and had a real impact on the team’s performances throughout the Fall Classic. He made four appearances against the Toronto Blue Jays, pitching five innings without allowing a run, and pitched back-to-back in Games 6 and 7.
If Wrobleski can ride his momentum into the 2026 season, he will have a huge role to play for the Dodgers out of the bullpen as they challenge for the franchise’s first three-peat.
