Angels’ Logan O’Hoppe Starting Rehab Assignment Amid Wrist Injury
Los Angeles Angels catcher Logan O’Hoppe is starting a rehab assignment with the ACL Angels, the team announced on Monday. O’Hoppe has been out with a fractured left wrist since April 25.
O’Hoppe was with the Angels during their road series against the Toronto Blue Jays over the weekend. He reportedly hit on the field on Friday and Saturday, caught off of a machine and ran the bases.
“I’m excited about that,” Angels manager Kurt Suzuki said, per MLB. “I’m excited to see Logan get back into it again. I know he’s excited — he came up to me and told me that. He said, ‘I’m going to be back soon and ready to go.’ So that’s exciting.”

O’Hoppe is set to play in a rehab game with the ACL Angels on Monday and is expected to play in a few more rehab games before potentially making his return on Friday for the series opener against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The series opener will also mark the first of 10 straight home games for the Angels.
Before suffering the injury at the end of April, O’Hoppe was slashing .205/.323/.256 with a .579 OPS and a home run across 26 games. He has started in 23 of 25 games as catcher.
“I feel like the last series in K.C. was the time when everything was starting to click,” O’Hoppe said, per MLB. “I had some deep flyouts, was catching the ball really well. So that was the frustrating part of it. So I’ve been breaking some things down with [catching coach Max] Stassi, but nothing too in-depth because I don’t want to overthink myself into any holes. So I’m just going to work on getting healthy before then.”
The Angels have utilized Sebastián Rivero as their primary catcher since O’Hoppe and Travis d’Arnaud have been out with injuries. Los Angeles also called up catcher Omar Martinez for the first time after d’Arnaud went down with plantar fasciitis on Friday.
