“That Would Be Obtuse”: Indiana Governor Mike Braun Makes Statement About the Chicago Bears Name Not Being Changed to the Hammond Bears

The Chicago Bears are looking forward to doing business in the state of Indiana in the future with Governor Mike Braun. Chicago had a choice between choosing a new stadium in Arlington Heights, Illinois or Hammond, Indiana. The Bears decided to move forward with a site in Hammond. It is much closer to Chicago than Arlington Heights is.

There are a lot of Bears fans who are unhappy with the team moving from Illinois to Indiana. With this being the case, many people are wondering if they will become the Hammond Bears and not the Chicago Bears anymore.

When the news got announced on Friday about the Bears going to be moving from Illinois to Indiana in the future, Colin Cowherd of the Herd on FS1 had Indiana Governor Mike Braun came onto the show. They were talking about the Bears stadium move from Illinois to Indiana. Braun made one thing clear however and said,

“That would be obtuse to think it would be the Hammond Bears. It’s the Chicago Bears.”

He is correct that the Bears will still be called the Chicago Bears. There will be people that will call this franchise the Hammond Bears or the Indiana Bears in the future because they will be crossing state lines. With that being, this organization is not the only franchise to playing in another state. The New York Giants and the New York Jets play in East Rutherford, New Jersey. There are a lot of people to blame however for the Bears not staying in the state of Illinois and being in downtown Chicago.
