Wayne Rooney claims Spurs signing has been worse than Gyokeres

9 November 2025 at 15:25

Wayne Rooney was asked to rate new signings at top Premier League clubs in the summer transfer window and he does not think highly of one Tottenham signing.

Spurs made a number of new signings in the summer transfer window and two of the prominent ones are Mohamed Kudus and Joao Palhinha.

Both have done reasonably well in adding quality and depth to Thomas Frank’s squad.

Although the fans are still waiting to see the best of them, they have shown they can be a part of the Spurs setup for a long time.

Other high profile signings at other clubs include Viktor Gyokeres at Arsenal, Joao Pedro at Chelsea, Alexander Isak at Liverpool, Bryan Mbeumo at Manchester United.

Rooney was asked to rate these signings out of 5 and the former Manchester United striker, much to the surprise of Tottenham fans, rated Gyokeres more than Kudus.

Rooney gave these ratings to the summer signings of the top clubs, when asked by Amazon Prime Video:

Alexander Isak a 2/5, Woltemade a 3/5, Mbeumo a 4/5, Wirtz a 2/5, Gyokeres a 4/5, Tijjani Reijnders a 3/5, Joao Pedro a 3/5, and Mohammed Kudus a 3/5 as well.

It is up for debate which signing has been the best so far this season. Mbeumo at Man United has caught the attention of fans after scoring recent goals against Liverpool and Tottenham.

Woltemade has adapted quickly to the Premier League and has made an early impact in replacing Isak at St. James’ Park.

Kudus, similarly, has added a new dimension to the Spurs attack and given them a creative spark up front.

Although it might be too early to judge them since they have a long way to go this season, but Gyokeres has added a threat upfront for the Gunners.

He might not have shown the form he showed at his former club, Sporting, but 6 goals in 14 appearances for Mikel Arteta’s side is not a bad return.

His game is much more than goals and assists though. Gyokeres gives them phyicality upfront and his movement makes space for their wide players.

It might not be entirely unfair to rate Gyokeres higher than Kudus at the moment but all the signings are taking their time to prove themselves and only at the end of the season can the final judgement be made.
