Of all 32 teams in the NFL, you could make an argument that the New England Patriots need a quarterback the least. However, Georgia Tech signal-caller Haynes King is far from just a quarterback.

The sixth-year quarterback threw for 2,951 yards in his third season starting for the Yellow Jackets. He added 953 yards on the ground, finishing the season with more than 4,000 total yards and 29 touchdowns in just 12 games played.

His efforts were good enough to earn him the ACC Player of the Year award, as well as a top-10 finish in the nation’s Heisman Trophy voting.

King is now out of eligibility and will be entering the NFL Draft in April. The Patriots are among the top-three teams showing the Georgia Tech quarterback the most interest, according to Atlanta-based reporter Miles Garrett.

“I’ve talked to a handful, especially at the Shrine Bowl and the Combine,” King told reporters at Georgia Tech’s pro day. “Recently, meetings and stuff like that, it was the Bills, the Cowboys and the Patriots. So far, we’ve had meetings. That’s going to grow here. Maybe soon. But each and every day, I’m getting new ones.”

King is currently projected as an undrafted free agent on many big boards. This would allow New England to bring in the exhilarating playmaker for next to nothing. Certainly worth keeping an eye on.

The New England Patriots made it to the Super Bowl last season, despite a below-average pass rush for most of the year.

The Patriots' pass rush had some big moments in the playoffs, but had just 35 sacks in the regular season. With K'Lavon Chaisson now gone, the team has not really done anything to improve in the area. They signed Dre'Mont Jones to replace Chaisson, and could still add a pass rusher in the draft.

However, if they wish to add a veteran, they could look at Kyle Van Noy. Van Noy has spent most of his career with the Patriots, winning two Super Bowls with the team. He is a free agent, coming off a down year, who could help the pass rush at least a little bit.

Van Noy was a Pro Bowler as recently as 2024, but had just two sacks last season. In 2024, he had 12.5 sacks, a career high. Van Noy has 57 career sacks, with 21.5 coming with the Patriots. Van Noy started his career with the Detroit Lions, but the Patriots traded for him in 2016.

In 2017, he signed a two-year deal with the Patriots. In 2020, he signed a four-year deal with the Miami Dolphins, but was released after just one season. He may not have had a standout year, but he has always seemed to perform in a Patriots jersey. He is a veteran who could help fill a leadership role as well. He would not be expensive, and at worst, would be a depth signing.

The New England Patriots pass rush needs help after recording just 35 sacks last season, which was tied for the 22nd most in the NFL.

The Patriots lost K'Lavon Chaisson, who was a huge part of their pass rush last season, especially in the playoffs. Even though they added Dre'Mont Jones and will get a healthier Harold Landry next season, they need to do more to address the pass rush. There are still a few pass rushers they could sign, including veteran defensive end Cameron Jordan.

Jordan may be going into his 16th season, but he can still get after the quarterback. He had 10.5 sacks last season, which was more than anyone on the Patriots. He is still looking for his first Super Bowl appearance, so the Patriots may be an attractive destination for him. However, he seemingly does not want to play in the cold.

"I came in knowing, after a 10.5-sack season, 15 TFLs, 40-some tackles, alright, we have another season like that, we crack deep in the top 10,” he said on "The Set with T.Stead" on Monday. “And at the same time, I’m also accepting the fact that at 36, everybody wants to go younger. Younger doesn’t mean more proof than what is presented. But potential gives the league a lot. There’s a set value that I have in my mind. Value is to the eye of the beholder, at this point. Value means position, rotation, monetary, sure, but more along the lines of if I want to get 10, 12, 13 sacks this next season, then I need to be in the best position to do so. And that could be at the Saints. Hell, it could be at the Miami Dolphins. It could be … It can’t be Cleveland or Buffalo or Green Bay, but … it could be. It could be.”

New England isn't going to give him the warmest environment, but it would give him the chance to win a ring. Jordan is an eight-time Pro Bowler and former All-Pro. He has 132 career sacks, 763 tackles and 175 tackles for a loss in his career. He could be headed for Canton when he retires, and a championship would cement his legacy.
