Samsung Galaxy A18 5G may use Snapdragon chip instead of Exynos; 4G may keep MediaTek

1 July 2026 at 15:56

Samsung’s chip choice for the Galaxy A18 5G may be good news for buyers, as the phone is said to adopt a Snapdragon instead of an Exynos. The phone will also be available in a 4G variant, which could retain a MediaTek processor.

A new report from ZDNet suggests Samsung may have finalized the chip decision for the next budget Galaxy A phone. Samsung’s Galaxy A18 4G may get a MediaTek SoC, and the Galaxy A18 5G may feature a Snapdragon chip.

Galaxy A18 4G and 5G will be one of the best-selling Samsung phones in 2027. The company’s Galaxy A1x range is pretty much popular worldwide. It also sells in the US, and that’s the possible reason to replace Exynos with Snapdragon.

Samsung is adopting MediaTek APs for the Galaxy A18 4G model, and mass production of the relevant components has already begun. Mass production of components for the 5G model is expected to align with Qualcomm’s readiness.

Samsung usually prioritizes its in-house chip for Galaxy phones. However, the Exynos has been completely ousted from the Galaxy A18 supply chain. Qualcomm has entered the supply and it won’t be going away anytime soon.

Meanwhile, the report doesn’t reveal exactly which SoC will be adopted by the 4G and 5G models. For context, the Galaxy A17 4G used MediaTek’s Helio G99, and the 5G version adopted Samsung’s Exynos 1330 processor.

Galaxy A18 will officially launch in the second half of the year. Mass production of the 4G version will likely begin in August with 100,000 units. Production will ramp to 2.4 million units in September, and 2.5 million units in October.
