WhatsApp expands emoji library with Unicode 17.0 support

2 April 2026 at 00:44

WhatsApp is adding new emojis to its Android app through a latest beta update, making chats more fun and expressive. These emojis come from the new Unicode 17.0 update, which introduces fresh symbols for users to share their feelings and ideas more easily.

Previously, WhatsApp had already added some emojis from Unicode 16.0. These included a tired face with eye bags, a fingerprint, a dry tree, and more. Now, the app is adding more new emojis and making them available directly in the emoji keyboard.

Some of the new emojis are very interesting. The β€œDistorted Face” emoji can be used when someone feels confused or stressed. The β€œBallet Shoes” emoji is good for talking about dance or shows.

There is also an β€œOrca” emoji, which is perfect for people who like the sea or animals. Another fun emoji is the β€œHairy Creature,” which is inspired by Bigfoot or the Yeti.

There are more emojis like β€œLandslide,” which shows that things are going out of control, and the β€œFight Cloud, which can show a fight or confusion. Music lovers can use the β€œTrombone” emoji, and the β€œTreasure Chest” emoji can be used for things like rewards, surprises, or adventure.

Earlier, some of these emojis were already in WhatsApp, but could not be used easily from the keyboard. Now, WhatsApp has made them simple to find and send in chats.
