Samsung announced the rollout of three new features to the Galaxy XR Headset in the US. The company continues to work with Google to evolve the Android XR and ecosystem to elevate experiences on the new form factor.

Galaxy XR is developed by Samsung, Google, and Qualcomm together. The Headset falls under Samsung’s umbrella and features an operating system crafted by Google and an application processor tailored by Qualcomm.

Recently, Google disclosed these upgrades for Android XR, and Samsung’s press release has also arrived. Samsung is bringing three new features to the Galaxy XR, including PC Connect, Likeness, and Travel Mode; details:

PC Connect

Available as Beta, the new PC Connect app unlocks new levels of productivity, creativity and entertainment. It allows you to pull in a single application or your entire computer’s desktop into your Galaxy XR’s immersive view.

PC Connect also lets users check email, browse the web, or join a video call. Thanks to its compatibility with Windows PCs, the XR Headset supports more flexible workflows and collaborative possibilities.

Additionally, Galaxy XR owners can play games like “Cities: Skylines II” on a large immersive virtual screen for a bird’s-eye perspective.

Likeness

Android XR’s new Likeness app (Beta) lets users choose how they appear. You can pick from a wide range of choices, from stylized Galaxy Avatars to more lifelike and expressive digital representations on Google Meet.

Travel Mode

The rollout began on December 8 in the US and South Korea.

These capabilities make Galaxy XR more powerful, personal, and practical. Samsung and Google remain committed to democratizing access, fostering creativity, and building a future in which technology adapts to users’ needs.

Google is updating the Samsung Galaxy XR headset with new features that make it more useful for work, play, and video calls. These new features give users a smoother and more interactive experience in the XR world.

PC Connect is one of the new additions that lets you link a Windows computer to the headset. You can see your PC desktop or any app inside the XR environment, right alongside Android XR apps from Google Play. The connection works over Wi-Fi in high resolution with smooth performance.

With PC Connect, you can use a keyboard and mouse from either your PC or headset to control both devices at the same time. Google showed a demo where a user edited photos on a laptop while watching YouTube in XR, with all inputs syncing seamlessly. PC Connect is in beta starting today, and Mac support is expected next year.

Moreover, Google is also adding Travel Mode that keeps the XR view stable even when you’re moving, like in any vehicle. This makes using the headset while traveling much easier and less disorienting.

Aside from this, Google introduces Likeness, a new avatar system for video calls. You create the avatar using a phone app, not the headset. It mirrors your facial expressions and hand gestures in real time.

Notably, these new features roll out today in beta. It makes the Galaxy XR more powerful, flexible, and fun for work, gaming, and virtual meetings.
