Tonight’s game at Madison Square Garden between the Red Storm of St. John’s and the UConn Huskies is without question the biggest game of the season in the Big East. From the site to the coaches to the game’s top players, this one has all the ingredients to be a Big East classic.

The Huskies have won 18 in a row and are 12-0 in the Big East. After a slow start to the campaign, the Red Storm have won eight in a row and are 10-1 in conference play. Tonight’s game features two of the best head coaches in all of college basketball. Dan Hurley is just a year removed from back-to-back national championships. Rick Pitino has also won a couple national championships (1996, 2013) and has guided seven teams to the Final Four.

The battle in the paint tonight features elite talents in Huskies' standout Tarris Reed Jr. (14.1 PPG, 7.8 RPG) and St. John's' Zuby Ejiofor (15.7 PPG and 3.3 APG).

UConn is ranked No. 8 in KenPom and No. 6 in the NET. St. John’s is ranked No. 20 in KenPom and 24th in the NET.

Indiana tops UCLA 98-97 in double OT, ending Bruins’ 14-game winning streak at home

LOS ANGELES — Freshman Trent Sisley made the first of two free throws with less than a second remaining in a second overtime and Indiana outlasted UCLA 98-97 on Saturday.

Nick Dorn hit six 3-pointers and scored a season-high 26 points for the Hoosiers (15-7, 6-5 Big Ten Conference) in a third straight victory following a four-game losing streak. Lamar Wilkerson added 24 points and eight rebounds.

Indiana reserve Reed Bailey totaled 24 points before fouling out in OT. He made 6 of 7 shots and 12 of 13 free throws. His only miss at the foul line came with eight seconds left in regulation, leading to a 3-pointer by Trent Perry that forced the first extra period tied at 76.

Perry made all 10 of his free throws and scored 25 to lead the Bruins (15-7, 7-4), who fall to 12-1 at home after winning 14 straight dating to last season. Donovan Dent totaled 24 points and 11 rebounds before fouling out with 0.3 seconds left, leading to the winning free throw. Tyler Bilodeau added 18 points and 11 rebounds before fouling out.

It was UCLA’s first OT game at home in four years and their first double OT game there in 11 years.

Perry had 11 points in the first half to help UCLA build a 38-30 advantage.

Indiana played from behind until Dorn hit a 3-pointer to give the Hoosiers a 45-43 lead with 14:14 remaining. UCLA trailed by 10 before outscoring Indiana 15-5 over the final 1:50 to force OT.

Indiana’s Sam Alexis had a layup to tie it 84-all with six seconds left, leading to a second extra period after Perry missed a jumper.

Bryson Tiller scores 21, Darryn Peterson adds 20; No. 14 Kansas beats No. 13 BYU 90-82

LAWRENCE, Kan. — Darryn Peterson scored 18 points in 20 minutes and No. 14 Kansas beat No. 13 BYU 90-82 on Saturday in the 1,000th game played at historic Allen Fieldhouse.

Bryson Tiller had career-high 21 points and seven rebounds for Kansas (16-5, 6-2 Big 12).

Although the Jayhawks led by as many as 21 points, BYU stayed within striking distance in the second half, cutting the lead to six as the clock ticked under two minutes to go. Kansas outscored the Cougars 8-4 in the final minute to withstand the late rally.

Richie Saunders scored a career-high 33 for BYU (17-4, 5-3). His six three-pointers tied a career-high.

Kansas carried a 20-point lead into halftime, shooting 64.3% from the field. That included 18 points from Peterson and the Jayhawks made 9 of 12 from beyond the arc.

BYU freshman AJ Dybantsa, who entered the game averaging a nation-leading 23.6 points, went without a shot until the 11:24 mark in the first half. Dybantsa scored his first basket with 7:22 left in the period, ending a 13-0 run by the Jayhawks with a 3-pointer. He finished with 17 points.

Excitement about the matchup between top prospects Peterson and Dybantsa fizzled when Peterson exited the game a little more than 3 1/2 minutes into the second half. He missed Kansas’ previous game with an ankle sprain and has been limited to just 11 appearances, battling hamstring and calf injuries.

No. 1 Arizona sets school record with 22nd straight win to start season, beating Arizona State 87-74

TEMPE, Ariz. — Koa Peat scored 21 points, fellow freshman Brayden Burries added 17 and No. 1 Arizona beat rival Arizona State 87-74 on Saturday, setting a school record with 22 straight wins to start the season.

Arizona (22-0, 9-0 Big 12) is one of just two unbeaten teams in the nation, along with Miami (Ohio). The Wildcats’ winning streak also tied the Big 12 record to start a season, originally set by Kansas in 1996-97.

The Wildcats — who shot 60% in the second half — scored the first six points after the break to take a 44-38 lead and never trailed again. Burries found Peat on a pinpoint full-court pass that led to a dunk for a 56-47 lead with 13:10 left.

The gritty Sun Devils cut into the deficit several times, but could never quite generate enough offense to keep pace. Noah Meeusen scored 16 points while Maurice Odum added 15.

Arizona State (11-11, 2-7) has dropped nine of its last 11 games.

Ivan Kharchenkov and Peat made threes on back-to-back possessions to push Arizona up 71-60, leading to a relatively comfortable final few minutes. Motiejus Krivas fought through foul trouble to finish with 15 points. Tobe Awaka had 13 rebounds.

The Sun Devils fell to 2-10 all-time against the nation’s No. 1 team. They last beat the top-ranked team when they knocked off Kansas on Dec. 22, 2018.

Arizona State led for much of the first few minutes but the Wildcats used a 13-2 run to take a 25-18 lead with 7:00 left in the first half. Peat made a layup to cap the run, finishing through contact that left him bloodied around his left eye.

The Sun Devils recovered, tying the game at 38 just before halftime when Meeusen made a 3-pointer with two seconds remaining.
