Borussia Mönchengladbach fans have been asked to refrain from buying stadium food and drinks on Saturday at RB Leipzig in order not to finacially support the Red Bull backed club in this way.

"For once, do without the beer and sausages at the stadium. Every extra euro that goes directly or indirectly to RB is counterproductive,” umbrella fan organization FPMG Supporters Club said.

“Whilst purchasing a ticket is essential to enable the protest against RB and to show support for our club, you should refrain from buying food and drink at the stadium.”

The group said fans should instead buy food and drink near the stadium or in the city.

Gladbach fans normally protest against Leipzig by blowing whistles in the first 19 minutes whenever Leipzig have possession.

This has “now become established and is a fundamental part of our protest.” which is directed at the “hated construct (RB Leipzig) that runs counter to all our values and beliefs,” the fan group said.

However, as there are now apparently strict checks for whistles at the entrance to the Leipzig stadium, the club is now to suffer financially.

Stadium catering can be a significant source of income for clubs. The Sport Bild weekly said that Borussia Dortmund generate around €1 million ($1.17 million) from it per home game in their 81.000 seat arena.

Leipzig, whose stadium seats 47,000, have released no official figures. Gladbach have been allocated 4,735 tickets for Saturday.
