Google Maps is getting a new icon on Android and iOS. Google has started rolling out this change with version 26.09.06.873668274 of the app. The icon still looks like a map pin, but it now has a fresh and modern design.

The shape of the pin has been slightly updated. The top ring is thinner than before, which makes it look lighter and cleaner. The circle inside the pin is now bigger, so it stands out more.

Another big change is the color style. Google removed the old diagonal color lines inside the pin. Instead, the new icon uses a smooth color gradient. The colors blend into each other, which gives it a softer and more modern look.

Even though the design has changed, the icon is still easy to recognize. It is clearly Google Maps, just with a new style. Some users may need a little time to get used to it, but the overall look is still familiar.

This new gradient style matches other Google apps that have also been updated. These include Google Photos, Google Home, Google Gemini, and Google Search. Google is slowly giving many of its apps a similar design so they all look connected.

Google Maps has also added new smart features in recent months. Many of these are powered by Gemini. There is now a more natural way to talk to the app for directions, replacing Google Assistant.

Gemini can also help users report traffic problems. Google is also adding Gemini features to Lens inside Maps and a “Know before you go” section on place listings. With these changes, Google Maps looks newer and works smarter for Android users.
