Chelsea prepared to accept £40m as they seek to offload player with ‘high opinion of himself’

28 May 2026 at 20:33

Chelsea are reportedly offering out Alejandro Garnacho to prospective buyers this summer for a fee in the region of £40m.

That was the fee that the Blues paid to sign him from Manchester United last year (BBC Sport), but a return of just one Premier League goal all season has led Glen Johnson to lament the transfer as a ‘mistake’.

Liam Rosenior had seemingly been prepared to keep faith in the 21-year-old while he was in charge at Stamford Bridge, but with his brief reign cut short last month, there’s a fresh uncertainty over the future of the Argentine winger.

Chelsea seeking buyers for Garnacho for £40m

Chelsea News writer Simon Phillips reported on Thursday (via Substack) that the west London club are now seeking to offer out Garnacho to other clubs for around £40m in the summer.

Napoli are cited as one prospective buyer who are likely to be contacted, given their previous interest in the ex-Manchester United youngster.

Stamford Bridge chiefs have been left ‘disappointed’ with the 21-year-old so far, and there’s a belief that it’d be ‘best for all parties’ if he were to be offloaded in the upcoming transfer window.

Garnacho hasn’t done enough to convince Chelsea thus far

If Chelsea can find a buyer for Garnacho who’s prepared to pay enough for them to recoup their initial investment, we suspect that a deal should then get done fairly quickly.

Nicky Butt – who worked with the forward in his previous roles in youth development at Man United – described him as ‘always a bit standoffish’ and having ‘a high opinion of himself’, even labelling his attitude as a ‘disgrace’ (The Good, The Bad and The Football).

The Argentine has done little to create more positive headlines during his first season with the Blues, and he may well be one of the first players to be culled by new manager Xabi Alonso as he stamps his own imprint on the squad at Stamford Bridge.

Garnacho has shown flashes of brilliance in the past, and in the right environment he might go on to deliver upon the potential he showed as a teenager at Old Trafford.

However, he might well be considered one of Chelsea’s more expendable players as they prepare for yet another new chapter under BlueCo’s turbulent ownership, even if offloading him after just one year would be a covert admission that the decision to sign him in the first place was misguided.

Arsenal given ‘fresh hope’ of beating post-Guardiola Man City to the punch for ‘dream target’

28 May 2026 at 19:28

Arsenal have reportedly been given ‘fresh hope’ of beating Manchester City to the signing of Tino Livramento in the summer transfer window.

It was reported earlier this month that the Emirates Stadium hierarchy have held talks with the Newcastle defender’s representatives as they seek to bolster Mikel Arteta’s squad off the back of winning the Premier League title.

A few weeks ago, the northwest club seemed to hold the edge over the Gunners in the race for the 23-year-old, although a fresh report suggests that the pendulum has now swung in favour of north London.

Arsenal given ‘fresh hope’ over Livramento swoop

According to a report for Sports Boom, Livramento is Arsenal’s ‘dream target’ for the summer as they seek to reinforce their already formidable backline.

It’s claimed that Pep Guardiola’s departure from Man City this week has cast uncertainty over the club’s summer transfer plans, thus giving the newly-crowned champions ‘fresh hope’ of getting one over on the Manchester side in the market as well as in the title race.

The Newcastle right-back remains the Gunners’ priority defensive target, but if the Magpies demand a greater fee than the north Londoners are willing to pay, Celta Vigo’s Oscar Mingueza is being lined up for a potential free transfer swoop following the expiry of his contract in Galicia.

Could Livramento’s injury record be a worry for Arsenal?

Arsenal already boast enviable strength in every defensive position, although Ben White’s struggles with injury could well prompt Arteta to bring in additional right-back competition for Jurrien Timber.

Newcastle’s failure to qualify for Europe could see them lose a few of their prized assets, and Livramento represents a homegrown, versatile and Premier League-proven option to enhance the Gunners’ title-winning squad.

As detailed in a scouting analysis from Breaking The Lines, he excels at stretching opposition defences, linking up effectively with the Magpies’ attacking players and recovering to win possession when his own team are under threat.

However, the one major concern surrounding the 23-year-old is his alarming injury record, having missed more than 30 games this season through four separate absences (Transfermarkt).

It’s something for the Arsenal hierarchy to consider as they enter the summer transfer window. Mingueza might represent a lower-risk option in terms of finances and availability, but they won’t want to see their ‘dream target’ Livramento end up at Man City either.

Bournemouth set to issue hands-off warning over key trio wanted by Man Utd, Arsenal and Liverpool

28 May 2026 at 18:51

Bournemouth are determined to keep hold of three of their most in-demand players this summer amid interest from the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United.

The Cherries have just achieved their highest-ever league position of sixth in the top flight, which brings with it a maiden journey into European competition next season, and have already moved to replace the much-loved Andoni Iraola with Marco Rose.

The south coast outfit have become used to seeing their most saleable assets depart for bigger-budget clubs over the past year (Milos Kerkez, Dean Huijsen, Illia Zabarnyi, Antoine Semenyo), but they’re keen to avoid a repeat scenario in the upcoming transfer window.

Bournemouth determined to keep crucial trio

According to a report for TEAMtalk, Bournemouth are set to take a hardline stance over key players such as Alex Scott, Rayan and Eli Junior Kroupi, with Vitality Stadium chiefs not feeling any need to sell the trio due to the extra prestige and finances brought about by Europa League qualification.

The Cherries want to reward the £60m-valued midfielder with a new contract amid interest from Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle.

Meanwhile, the record-breaking French striker is also wanted by the Gunners, while the January arrival from Vasco da Gama (who’s understood to have an £86.5m release clause) is reportedly a target at Anfield and Old Trafford, as well as being monitored by Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid.

Bournemouth keen to prove they’re not just a stepping stone

Bournemouth may ultimately have been powerless to prevent the likes of Kerkez, Huijsen and Semenyo from leaving, but qualification for the Europa League has shifted the goalposts since those exits.

Rose is rightly determined to keep Scott, Rayan and Kroupi at the Vitality Stadium, with the incoming head coach well aware that he has an extremely hard act to follow in Iraola, along with a need for a deep squad to cope with the added fixture demands of European football.

Keeping all three of those could be quite difficult, especially if blockbuster offers are tabled and the players push for an exit, but retaining some or all of them would send out a signal of intent that the Cherries are no mere one-season wonders.

With the last two Europa League (and Conference League) finals being won by English clubs, Bournemouth may firmly believe that they have a chance of emulating those victors if they keep the bulk of the 2025/26 crop for next season.

If the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United want to lure the Cherries’ prized assets away from the Vitality Stadium, they’ll need to rustle up all their powers of persuasion, along with some gargantuan offers.

‘I expect…’ – Insider claims West Ham could strike £70m deal with PSG for ‘fantastic’ gem

27 May 2026 at 20:26

West Ham United could potentially fetch as much as £70m by selling Mateus Fernandes to Paris Saint-Germain in the summer, according to one transfer insider.

The Irons’ relegation from the Premier League is set to be followed by several high-profile departures from the London Stadium, with Jarrod Bowen and Crysencio Summerville among the names being touted for the exit door.

The Portuguese midfielder is also among those who could plausibly be sold for a sizeable fee, with Manchester United reportedly interested in the 21-year-old, but Michael Carrick’s side could yet face stern competition from the continent.

West Ham could fetch £70m for Mateus Fernandes

Former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness is expecting Fernandes to fetch a substantial amount for West Ham in the summer, and he hinted that it mightn’t be long before PSG lure him from one capital city to another.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “With an auction, it could get as high as £70m, so that’s where I think the market’s going to be.

“PSG is going to be very attractive for Fernandes, but he may well stay in the Premier League, and it’s who’s going to step up and pay that amount.

“I expect to see that deal [with PSG] being done as we’re speaking right now behind the scenes and announced pretty quickly in the window.”

West Ham should be able to make a tidy profit on Fernandes

Although West Ham’s retention of faith in Nuno Espirito Santo provides a welcome semblance of stability as they prepare for life in the Championship, it still seems likely that several of their most valuable playing assets will depart over the summer.

Fernandes is one of those, with the Irons boss lauding the youngster’s ‘fantastic season‘ despite the team’s relegation from the Premier League, and that he earned a springtime call-up to a Portugal squad with a stacked midfield speaks volumes for the 21-year-old’s talent.

The east Londoners paid just over £40m to sign him from Southampton last August and with the youngster embellishing his stock even further since then, they should feel confident of turning a significant profit on him if he were to depart this summer.

West Ham already seem to be preparing for the Portuguse gem’s prospective exit, with reports of an ‘agreement in principle‘ for Metz midfielder Alpha Toure, who could be snapped up for as little a £6m.

Fernandes will be missed if (as seem likely) he does move on, but the London Stadium hierarchy should be able to command a hefty fee for him if the lure of PSG proves too difficult to resist.

PSG and Barcelona eyeing summer swoop for ‘excellent’ Crystal Palace powerhouse

27 May 2026 at 19:53

Crystal Palace defender Jaydee Canvot is reportedly the subject of transfer interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona.

The 19-year-old only joined the Eagles on deadline day of last summer’s transfer window, arriving at Selhurst Park a few hours before the plug was pulled on Marc Guehi’s proposed move to Liverpool.

The captain of last year’s FA Cup triumph ultimately joined Manchester City in January, but his younger positional colleague has become a prominent figure in the south Londoners’ journey to tonight’s Conference League final.

PSG and Barcelona interest in Palace defender Canvot

According to L’Equipe, both PSG and Barcelona are interested in a move for Canvot, whose current contract at Palace runs to 2029.

The Champions League holders have reportedly been tracking the teenager before his departure from fellow Ligue 1 side Toulouse last year, with the LaLiga winners subsequently having their attention gripped by his performances for the Eagles in Europe.

It’s understood that the interest from the French and Spanish champions hasn’t yet materialised into anything concrete.

Palace will be determined to keep hold of Canvot

Canvot didn’t get off to the most auspicious starts for Palace, making a costly error in the home defeat to AEK Larnaca seven months ago, but he hasn’t looked back since an ‘excellent’ performance (in Oliver Glasner’s words) in the Carabao Cup win at Liverpool the following week.

Although the young Frenchman has been restricted to just 14 Premier League starts thus far, he’s been virtually ever-present in the knockout rounds of the Conference League and seems likely to start in the final against Rayo Vallecano tonight.

That clubs of the stature of PSG and Barcelona have reportedly taken an interest in him attests to how commendably he’s been performing at Selhurst Park, with he and teammate Jean-Philippe Mateta potentially earning summer moves to European giants.

With Canvot still having three years remaining on his contract, Palace aren’t under any huge pressure to cash in on him, and a deep squad will be essential if they win the Conference League tonight and guarantee themselves another European campaign in 2026/27.

The Eagles have become accustomed to selling their star players to big-name clubs (Guehi and Eberechi Eze being prime examples), but they’ll be hoping to keep hold of the prodigious French centre-back for another while yet.

‘Tremendous character’ eyeing summer exit from Crystal Palace; Serie A giants keen to pounce

27 May 2026 at 19:12

Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta is reportedly unlikely to extend his contract with the Eagles and is understood to be keen on a summer move to Italy.

He had been on the verge of completing a £30m transfer to AC Milan at the end of the January window, but that deal collapsed on deadline day when issues arose from his medical.

However, it now appears that the Serie A outfit could try their luck once more for the France international, who could plausibly depart in the coming weeks.

Mateta unlikely to extend his contract at Palace

According to the Daily Mail, Mateta is unlikely to extend his contract at Selhurst Park as it enters its final year.

Milan would be interested in reviving their pursuit of the Frenchman, although the departure of head coach Massimiliano Allegri and several senior figures at San Siro could complicate matters.

Nottingham Forest have also maintained their prior interest in the Palace striker, although his preference is reportedly for a move to Italy if he were to leave south London during the off-season.

Could Palace plausibly cash in on Mateta this summer?

From pariah status in January as he was booed by his own supporters at Selhurst Park (along with angering some teammates), a resurgent Mateta could complete his redemption arc tonight if he were to make a decisive contribution in the Conference League final against Rayo Vallecano.

That scenario would also surely boost his valuation, on top of him being named in a star-studded France squad for the World Cup, and it would be quite the high for him to go out on if this is to be his last game for Palace.

Add in the fact that he’s just over a year remaining on his contract, and that Evan Guessand’s loan move from Aston Villa could potentially be made permanent over the summer, and the Eagles might reluctantly grant the 28-year-old his wish of a move to Serie A.

However, Mateta – hailed by Thierry Henry as a ‘tremendous character‘ – would unquestionably be a big miss at Selhurst Park if he were to depart in the next few weeks, having struck 15 goals this season despite injury issues and the unsavoury saga over his future during the winter.

The final decision could ultimately boil down to the composition of any offers which are submitted for the 28-year-old in the summer, and whether or not he pushes for an exit, in which case the Palace hierarchy might be reluctant to stand in his way.

Green light to move: Liverpool maestro could be swayed towards Leeds by apparent Farke promise

27 May 2026 at 18:29

Liverpool attacker Harvey Elliott is reportedly keen on the idea of joining Leeds United in the summer transfer window.

The 23-year-old is returning to his parent club after an abortive loan spell at Aston Villa, where he made just nine appearances and didn’t meet the clubs’ agreed 10-game threshold for the transaction to become permanent.

Elliott seemingly keen on summer move to Leeds

According to a report from Football Insider, Reds head coach Arne Slot has given the green light for the former England under-21 star to be sold this summer, with his contract at Anfield expiring next year and no sign of him being reintegrated into the fold on Merseyside.

Elliott is determined to find a club where’ll receive some overdue regular game-time, and Daniel Farke feels that Leeds could provide the player with just that, with sources indicating that the recent Europa League winner would be interested in a move to Elland Road.

Leeds move could be plausible with assurances over game-time

If the Whites can convince the 23-year-old that he’ll play most weeks, they could stand a very good chance of snapping up a talented attacker who was officially named Player of the Tournament as England retained their European under-21 crown last June.

Although Slot recently declared that Elliott will be with the Liverpool squad for the start of pre-season, it’s difficult to see a way back at Anfield for the player whilst the Dutchman remains in charge.

He would provide Farke with an added right-sided attacking option whilst also offering competition for Brenden Aaronson in the number 10 role at Elland Road.

Football finance expert Stefan Borson recently told Football Insider that the Reds might be prepared to sanction a £25m exit for Elliott this summer, a very reasonable fee for a 23-year-old who’s proven that he can shine in the Premier League and also carries homegrown status.

With the player seemingly open to joining Leeds, and Farke potentially being able to satisfy his longing for regular game-time, it’s far from implausible that the Whites could provide the youngster with an opportunity to rejuvenate his career.
