Aston Villa Bounce Back in Europe as Emery’s Men Edge Maccabi Tel Aviv

7 November 2025 at 02:41

Aston Villa marked a strong return to winning ways in Europe with a 2-0 triumph over Maccabi Tel Aviv on UEFA Europa League matchday four a fitting way for Unai Emery to celebrate both his 54th birthday and three-year anniversary at the club, Softfootball reports.

The result was also the perfect response after their 2-0 loss to Liverpool over the weekend, as the Villans extended their impressive home record in European competitions to 13 wins from their last 15 outings.

The build-up to the clash was overshadowed by the decision to ban Maccabi supporters from Villa Park, leaving empty patches in the stands and a muted atmosphere. The opening exchanges reflected that energy, with few clear chances at either end. Donyell Malen’s deflected strike that flew narrowly wide midway through the half offered the first glimpse of quality, before Maccabi’s Osher Davida nearly stunned the hosts with a ricocheted effort that crept just past Emiliano Martínez’s post.

Villa struggled to break through the Israeli defence until winger Morgan Rogers decided to take matters into his own hands, weaving past three defenders before being denied by Roei Mashpati. The visitors responded swiftly, with Roy Revivo cutting the ball back for Dor Peretz, whose close-range shot was brilliantly stopped by Martínez.

That moment proved pivotal as Villa took the lead in first-half stoppage time. Rogers was again the instigator, finding Ian Maatsen in the box, and the Dutchman’s thunderous strike went in off the underside of the bar to make it 1-0.

Maccabi came out stronger in the second half and nearly drew level through Peretz, but Martínez pulled off another fine save. Their hopes were dashed minutes later when Elad Madmon tripped Ezri Konsa in the box, gifting Villa a penalty that Malen confidently converted to double the advantage.

The forward nearly added another when he raced through on goal but was denied by Mashpati’s fingertips. With the game under control, Emery rotated his squad to protect key players ahead of their weekend Premier League clash with Bournemouth.

After the game, Aston Villa via its official X handle confirmed that the team has now gone 8 European games unbeaten at Villa park further solidify their strong record at home. They posted:

It was a composed, professional showing — exactly what Emery would have wanted on such a milestone week. The victory reinforced Villa’s growing European confidence under the Spaniard, who continues to make history in continental competitions. For Maccabi Tel Aviv, however, it was another frustrating night in a campaign that has offered more questions than answers.

I Used to Pretend to Be Gerrard – Conor Bradley Reflects on His Liverpool Journey

7 November 2025 at 01:25

Every footballer starts somewhere — for Conor Bradley, it was in the backyard, dreaming he was Steven Gerrard or Luis Suárez as he slid across the grass trying to hit the top corner, Softfootball reports

Now, years later, those childhood dreams have become his reality. The Northern Irish defender has gone from a football-mad kid in County Tyrone to a key member of Liverpool’s first team ,and one of the brightest young full-backs in the Premier League.

In a new feature titled Backyard Dreams, shared on Liverpool’s official X handle and presented by Husqvarna, the Reds’ official lawn care partner, Bradley looked back fondly on where it all began, he stated;

Yeah, I would have spent a lot of time [in the backyard], Any time we got home from school, we just went straight out and played football. Steven Gerrard was one [I pretended to be], definitely. I used to slide about the garden trying to copy him, hit it top bins. And then [Luis] Suarez as well.

Those backyard moments built the foundation for the fearless, hard-working player Liverpool fans see today. On Tuesday night, Bradley was outstanding in the Reds’ 1–0 win over Real Madrid at Anfield, shutting down the left wing completely and keeping Vinícius Júnior quiet all night — no small feat against one of the most explosive wingers in world football.

Since Trent Alexander-Arnold’s move to Real Madrid, Liverpool’s new signing Jeremie Frimpong has struggled to maintain consistent fitness, with recurring injuries disrupting his rhythm. His current spell on the sidelines has opened the door for Conor Bradley to further establish himself in the starting lineup, offering the youngster a golden opportunity to prove he belongs at the top level with extended game time.

His defensive awareness, energy, and confidence on the ball stood out as Liverpool held firm to claim a famous European victory. The right-back was later named Player of the Match, a fitting reward on a night when he marked his 70th appearance for the club.

Reflecting on how far he’s come, Bradley admitted that even he sometimes struggles to believe it.he said,

I think he’d be pretty surprised to see what I’ve gone on and done, (referring to his younger self) He’d be telling me now to keep going and keep working hard, and just try to make the most of what you’ve got.

Meanwhile, Liverpool via it’s official X handle uploaded the full video of Connor Bradley talking about growing up as a supporter of the club. Watch the full video below:

From sliding around in his family garden pretending to be Gerrard to silencing Real Madrid at Anfield, Conor Bradley’s story is a reminder that every dream no matter how small can grow into something unforgettable.

Looking back, Bradley’s story feels like a full-circle moment, the boy who once dreamed of being Gerrard is now living that same Anfield dream, inspiring the next generation of Reds to believe it’s possible too.

Eric Garcia Suffers Nasal Fracture, Set to Wear Protective Mask for Upcoming Games

6 November 2025 at 23:23

Eric García has suffered a nasal fracture and will be fitted with a protective mask as Barcelona monitor his recovery ahead of the trip to Celta Vigo. The centre-back picked up the injury during Barcelona’s dramatic 3-3 Champions League draw away to Club Brugge, a match that saw the Catalans come from behind three times but also left the squad a little more dented.

The setback is particularly unwelcome because Hansi Flick has relied on García heavily this season, the Spaniard has featured more than almost anyone in the centre of defence as Flick tries to build a settled backline. Softfootball understands that García’s availability has been vital to the coach’s plans.

This injury piles onto Barcelona’s growing list of absentees, Pedri, Raphinha, Joan García and Andreas Christensen are already sidelined and adds fresh pressure to a squad juggling fixtures and fitness. Softfootball understands the club’s medical team will fast-track assessments, but will not rush García back until they are satisfied he can play safely.

Barcelona now face a short sprint of matches where squad depth will be tested; the priority is clear, protect the players and steady the team as Flick seeks a quick response on the pitch.

OPINION: How Liverpool Outclass Real Madrid With Commanding Anfield Performance

6 November 2025 at 22:09

Liverpool produced one of their most disciplined and dominant performances of the season, beating Real Madrid 1-0 at Anfield in the UEFA Champions League this week. The victory was not just about the scoreline, it was about the control, composure, and tactical precision that defined Arne Slot’s side from start to finish. Softfootball reports.

Remarkably, the Reds did it all without their British record signing, Alexander Isak. The £125 million striker missed the game due to injury concerns, yet his absence hardly showed as Liverpool executed their game plan to near perfection.

From the opening whistle, Liverpool took control of possession and pressed with a level of intensity that suffocated Madrid’s rhythm. The Anfield crowd roared their approval as Slot’s men dictated the pace, winning key battles in midfield and forcing Xabi Alonso’s side into mistakes.

The Reds’ defensive organization was equally impressive, allowing Real Madrid only two shots on target throughout the game a rare feat against a team boasting the likes of Kylian Mbappé and Vinícius Júnior.

The winning goal came midway through the second half when Alexis Mac Allister rose highest to nod home a pinpoint Dominik Szoboszlai free-kick. It was a set-piece straight off the training ground, executed with precision and confidence and it reflected Liverpool’s growing efficiency under Slot’s leadership.

After the game, Liverpool shared via their official X handle the highlight of Mac Allister’s bullet header which ultimately proved more than enough to separate both sides. Watch the goal below:

Despite missing Isak, Liverpool didn’t lack attacking intent. The fluid movement of players like Hugo Ekitike, Mohamed Salah, and Cody Gakpo kept Madrid guessing, while the midfield trio controlled the tempo and pressed relentlessly. Slot’s decision to trust his existing squad depth paid off handsomely, with every player on the pitch stepping up in Isak’s absence.

Perhaps the most impressive aspect of the performance was Liverpool’s defensive composure. Virgil van Dijk led by example, marshaling the backline with authority, while goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili produced key saves when called upon. The team’s discipline and positional awareness ensured Madrid never found the space to exploit Liverpool’s high line.

Liverpool through its official X handle, shared the full highlights of important moments during game, so the anfield faithfuls can relive and rewatch the masterclass performances put in by the players and coach Arne slot. They posted:

For a side that had struggled for consistency in recent weeks, this win felt like a turning point. Beating Real Madrid, a team synonymous with Champions League dominance, is no small feat, and doing it in such commanding fashion without their record signing makes it even more significant.

Arne Slot’s Liverpool may still be a work in progress, but this was a statement victory. It was a reminder that even without their biggest summer acquisition, the Reds remain one of Europe’s most formidable forces when everything clicks.

Amorim Preaches Confidence and Control Ahead of Tottenham Clash

6 November 2025 at 21:05

Manchester United manager Rúben Amorim has urged his players to maintain belief and composure as they prepare to face Tottenham at Old Trafford. The Reds are coming off a 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest, a result that left fans both hopeful and cautious about the team’s progress.

Amorim, who has been under the spotlight since taking over at United, remains optimistic about the team’s development. Speaking to the press via the club’s official YouTube channel.

Ruben Amorim (Photo Credit: Manchester United Facebook page)

The Portuguese manager reflected on his side’s evolution since their Europa League exit to Spurs last season. He stated;

Characteristics of the players are different in the team now. We also have players who played last year. But we are a better team. We understand the game better.

We are more confident. We reached the Europa League final confident that we could win it. But in this moment, we are playing with a different confidence.

Amorim continued by emphasizing the squad’s newfound ability to adapt and change games when needed, saying;

We are more confident, we can win any game and we have proved that already. The last game was tough on us because in some moments, we weren’t the team that we were supposed to be.

We suffered two goals against Brighton too but it was different. We have a lot to improve but we are now more prepared for anything that happens in the game.

We are in a better moment but we still have a lot to do to consistently win games in a row.
We can manage the games better now. We can always change from one moment we are struggling because we have players who can do that individually and not just as team.

But if you look at Nottingham Forest game, you can sense the energy was not the same. You can see that from the first moments of the game itself.

Ruben Amorim (Photo Credit: Manchester United Facebook page)
Ruben Amorim (Photo Credit: Manchester United Facebook page)

When asked whether not playing in European competition this season has benefited his side, Amorim admitted it has allowed him and his players more time to reflect, rebuild, and connect. He noted;

It is not seeing the positives [from the defeat by Tottenham in the Europa League], it is using the positives.

I would say, yes. Any situation you have in life, you can look at it positively or in a bad way. If you ask me whether I prefer to be here with the cup and Champions League football, I might say yes.

But on the other side, you have more time to train and know your players. Arrange everything and prepare with the staff and players. So we try to use the positive thing of not playing in the midweek games. But the future will be with European competition. I can see the positives.

The manager also addressed United’s injury record and defensive struggles, two areas that have drawn criticism in recent weeks. He said;

Sometimes you have problems with players with knocks. It’s not something… soft tissues, and you never know what’s going to happen in the next training. If you play with intensity in training, anything can happen.

But I think the big reason is one game every week. You can give an extra day to the players that you know that could struggle in the next training, so I think that is the big reason.

It’s a problem. If you see the league nowadays, the team that is winning is not conceding goals. That’s a big thing.

When you have talented players, if you defend well, in one moment, you can score and win a game. But it’s a team thing. We need to defend well and be more aggressive. Everything is connected.

But we cannot concede the amount of goals we are conceding at the moment. Sometimes if you defend really well, you attack better. In the last game, they had 17 shots against us. We cannot allow that. We need to pay attention to that.

Ruben Amorim has expressed his confidence in his side ahead of the big game against Tottenham this weekend, catch the managers full reactions and answers to questions concerning Manchester United on and off the field via the Team’s YouTube channel. Watch full video below:

Meanwhile, Softfootball understands that Amorim also addressed Cristiano Ronaldo’s recent comments about Manchester United’s on and off-field struggles. The Portuguese manager acknowledged Ronaldo’s influence in world football but emphasized that the club is focused on learning from past mistakes and building a stronger future rather than dwelling on previous setbacks.

With the Tottenham test looming, Amorim will be hoping his words translate into another strong performance, one that could reignite belief among fans and set the tone for United’s push up the Premier League table.

Rúben Amorim Responds to Cristiano Ronaldo’s Comments on Manchester United

6 November 2025 at 20:22

Manchester United manager Rúben Amorim has responded to recent remarks made by Cristiano Ronaldo about the club’s internal struggles and organizational structure.

Softfootball understands that Cristiano Ronaldo spoke about Manchester United’s recent issues and overall club management during his appearance on The Piers Morgan Podcast, where he reflected on the changes he believes are needed at Old Trafford.

Ahead of United’s crucial Premier League clash against Tottenham, Amorim addressed the press, calling for calm and focus despite the noise surrounding Ronaldo’s comments.

According to Fabrizio Romano via his official X handle, the Manchester United boss Amorim said:

Cristiano knows he has a huge impact on everything he says. We know as a club we made a lot of mistakes in the past. We are trying to change that. Let’s not focus on what happened. We need to focus on the future.

Amorim’s response also highlighted his growing confidence in the team’s long-term project, insisting that Manchester United’s rebuild will take time but is already showing signs of progress both on and off the pitch.

Amorim will be hoping his players channel that same forward-looking mentality when they face Tottenham, especially after last weekend’s disappointing draw against Nottingham Forest a result that raised questions about the team’s consistency.

The Portuguese tactician will also be counting on his senior players to show leadership on the pitch as United aim to return to winning ways and regain momentum in their campaign.

Barcelona Survive Late Scare to Draw 3–3 with Club Brugge in Champions League Thriller

6 November 2025 at 02:46

Softfootball reports that Barcelona’s unbeaten run on the road in the UEFA Champions League came to a dramatic end on Wednesday night, November 5, 2025, as they were held to a thrilling 3–3 draw by Club Brugge at the Jan Breydel Stadium. It was a match filled with chaos, brilliance, and defensive lapses that once again exposed Hansi Flick’s men at the back. something in the opposite direction of the pregame predictions,, as Barcelona were expected to have it easy.

The Catalans, who had won all four of their previous away fixtures in the competition, were rocked early when Nicolò Tresoldi opened the scoring in just the 6th minute, finishing off a quick counter from Carlos Forbs, who tore through Barcelona’s high line with ease. But Barça responded immediately through Ferran Torres, who calmly slotted home to level things two minutes later.

Still, the defensive cracks remained. Forbs who was a constant menace throughout, struck again in the 17th minute, cutting inside and curling a superb left-footed finish past Wojciech Szczęsny to restore Brugge’s lead. Despite controlling the game with 76% possession and 23 attempts on goal, Barcelona struggled to make it count. Jules Koundé rattled the crossbar, and Marcus Rashford saw a fine effort tipped over before the break.

After halftime, the game continued at a frantic pace. Brugge nearly made it 3–1 through Joaquin Seys, but the visitors found their equaliser when Lamine Yamal, fresh from his inclusion in the FIFPRO World Starting XI, coolly finished off a sweeping move in the 61st minute with the outside of his foot, a reminder of his composure beyond his years, an act that drew appreciation from the club, which was reflected via a post on their official X account.

However, just when it seemed Barcelona had settled, Forbs struck once more two minutes later to complete a brilliant hat-trick, punishing another lapse in concentration with a deft chip over Szczęsny. The Blaugrana pushed hard for a response and got a stroke of luck in the 77th minute when Lamine Yamal’s dangerous cross deflected off Christos Tzolis and into the net for 3–3.

In the dying moments, Brugge thought they had snatched all three points when Romeo Vermant bundled the ball home, but VAR intervened, ruling the goal out for a foul on Szczęsny in the buildup.

The draw means Barcelona drop points away from home in the Champions League for the first time under Flick, leaving them on six points, level with PSG and Real Madrid in Group D. For Brugge, the result extends their impressive five-match unbeaten home run in Europe, proving once again that the Belgian champions are no pushovers on the continental stage.

Chelsea Fans Fume After 2–2 Draw with Qarabağ

6 November 2025 at 01:53

Chelsea were held to a 2–2 draw by Qarabağ FK in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, November 5, 2025. Despite ending their three-match away losing streak, Softfootball understands that the result felt more like a defeat among the fans, many of whom took to social media to vent their frustration over the team’s inconsistency and Maresca’s tactical choices.

The Blues had taken an early lead through Estêvão’s fine strike in the 16th minute, but Qarabağ hit back through Leandro Andrade and Marko Janković to take a 2–1 advantage before halftime. Alejandro Garnacho equalized after the break, yet Chelsea’s inability to find a winner despite being heavy favourites to get all three points left supporters bitterly disappointed.

One X user, who goes by Bearded Priest (@BeardedPriest1), summed up the frustration with humour, mocking the opponents’ unfamiliar name while expressing disbelief at the result. reflecting the growing discontent among fans who had expected a more commanding performance.

He wrote:

We can’t even win against a team with a name that’s like a WiFi password

For others, the focus turned to Maresca’s rotation policy and tactical setup. JayJay (@TheJayLason) expressed concern over the manager’s lineup decisions, suggesting the Italian’s rotations were reckless rather than strategic.

He complained:

Saw Arsenals line up yesterday, saw ours today then I realize Maresca doesn’t know what he’s doing. U can rotate but not foolishly. Why is Josh not playing? Maresca’s use of our midfield leaves the defense open a lot. The midfield is all opened. It’s all Moi alone in the middle

The criticism didn’t stop there. Jake Heasman (@jakeheasman) went even harder on the manager, blaming him for freezing out one of Chelsea’s key defenders.

He fumed:

Absolutely shambolic result and Maresca to blame. Acheampong, our best CB, frozen out for no reason for Hato, who is nowhere near ready and single-handedly cost us that game. Inexcusable not to win that.

However, not every fan was ready to pile the blame entirely on Maresca. The London Lad (@TheLondonLad_) reminded fellow supporters that the same fans calling for Hato’s inclusion last week were now criticising his selection.

He said:

Last week, most of y’all wanted Hato to start, He gets his start and now it’s Maresca at fault for him underperforming??

Garnacho celebrates his goal (Photo Credit: chelsea via X)

But for some, patience with the manager appears to be wearing thin. Adoga Michael Oyi (@AdogaMikeOyi) accused Maresca of underestimating the opposition and fielding a lineup unsuited for Qarabağ’s physical approach.

He argued:

Average coach. Quarabag has been in good form yet you’re starting that useless lineup against them? Quarabag play power football from the front to the back, you need your Caicedo and Enzo to start, you don’t force a winger to play 9 with 2 strikers on the bench.

The draw leaves Chelsea with 7 points after four group matches, and the mood among fans is anything but calm. While the Blues remain well-placed to advance, the reaction online makes it clear that supporters expect far more convincing performances from Maresca’s men on the European stage.

Chelsea Frustrated in Baku as Qarabag Hold Blues to Costly 2-2 Draw

6 November 2025 at 00:28

Chelsea’s hopes of sealing direct qualification for the Champions League round of 16 took a hit on Tuesday night, as they were held to a disappointing 2-2 draw by Qarabag in Baku, much to the surprise of everyone, even in the pre-game review, Chelsea were expected to enjoy an easy 3-1 victory, but unfortunately for the Blues fans, it wasn’t meant to be.

Softfootball understands that things went downhill for Enzo Maresca’s side after a promising start that saw Chelsea take the lead following some brilliant play from Brazilian youngster Estevao; however, Marko Jankovic’s penalty put the hosts ahead in the first half after cancelling that Estevao lead with Leandro Andrade’s equaliser.

The young Brazilian’s early goal seemed to have set Chelsea on course for a routine win after their long 2,500-mile trip to Azerbaijan. But football, as it often reminds us, doesn’t follow the script; however, his performance was good enough to earn him the man of the match award, as revealed by UEFA via their official X account.

They Posted:

A second-half strike from substitute Alejandro Garnacho eventually spared Chelsea’s blushes, though it was hard to argue they deserved more. With one defeat already in the group, the margin for error is razor-thin now if the Blues hope to secure a top-eight finish and avoid the dreaded February play-off round.

This wasn’t supposed to be the fixture where points were dropped. Qarabag, ranked among the weakest sides to reach this stage, looked nothing of the sort. The Azerbaijani champions were ambitious, organised, and miles better than the team Chelsea had beaten 4-0 on their last visit eight years ago.

Chelsea’s night started poorly when Romeo Lavia limped off after just four minutes with what looked like a muscle problem. He walked off under his own power but looked understandably frustrated, another setback in his stuttering Blues career.

Moisés Caicedo, who in an earlier interview had emphasised the need for the team to maintain a high quality, replaced him and almost scored soon after, firing just over, before Tyrique George, preferred up front to Liam Delap, teed up Andrey Santos, who somehow missed from three yards. Santos made up for it moments later, feeding Estêvão, who cut in from the right and finished sharply inside the near post.

But defensive lapses undid the early work. Jorrel Hato was bullied off the ball by Camilo Durán, whose effort rebounded off the post for Andrade to smash home. Minutes later, Hato’s handball handed Jankovic the penalty that made it 2-1.

Garnacho came on at halftime and levelled quickly, firing home in the 52nd minute after his initial cross was blocked. Liam Delap, also returning from injury, went close soon after with a low strike just wide.

In stoppage time, Garnacho had a golden chance to win it but was denied by a brilliant save from Mateusz Kochalski. For Chelsea, the long journey home will feel even longer after another night of missed chances and mounting frustration.

PSG Injury Crisis Deepens: Hakimi and Mendes Ruled Out for Weeks

5 November 2025 at 22:56

Paris Saint-Germain have been hit with a fresh wave of injury problems, as the club confirmed that Achraf Hakimi has suffered a severe sprain in his left ankle and will be out for several weeks. The Moroccan full-back picked up the injury during Tuesday’s 2–1 Champions League loss to Bayern Munich after a heavy challenge from Luis Díaz, who was eventually shown a red card.

Softfootball understands that there were real concerns Hakimi might’ve fractured something, but scans later ruled that out. Still, the news isn’t good. The recovery timeline means his chances of featuring in next month’s Africa Cup of Nations, which begins December 21 in Morocco, are now hanging by a thread.

It doesn’t stop there for PSG. Ousmane Dembélé has also been ruled out with a left calf problem, while Nuno Mendes is nursing a sprained left knee. Both players are expected to be out for a few weeks as well, leaving Luis Enrique short on key options at a crucial point in the season. Fabrizio Romano announced both players’ injuries in a post made via his official X account.

He posted:

PSG confirm Achraf Hakimi suffered a severe ankle sprain. The injury could keep him sidelined for around 6-8 weeks with AFCON to follow. Hakimi has avoided an ankle fracture.

Nuno Mendes suffered a sprain in his left knee, as PSG statement confirm. The left back will remain under medical care for the next few weeks.

The club confirmed all three injuries in a medical update released on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, and said further checks would be carried out after the international break. For Enrique, it’s another headache, with Champions League nights and tricky Ligue 1 fixtures coming fast, PSG’s depth will be seriously tested in the coming weeks.

PSG Confirm Ousmane Dembélé Sidelined with Left Calf Injury

5 November 2025 at 22:27

Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed that Ousmane Dembélé has picked up a left calf injury, and he’s now set to spend a few weeks on the sidelines. Softfootball reports that the news comes just a day after the Ballon d’Or winner was forced off during PSG’s 2–1 Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich on Tuesday, November 4, 2025.

It’s another frustrating twist for Dembélé, who only just got back from a hamstring issue that had kept him out earlier this season, and this setback is not the perfect way the Ballon d’Or winner will want to celebrate his inclusion in the FIFPRO Men’s World 11.

Manager Luis Enrique sounded pretty hopeful before the game, insisting the winger had “fully recovered” and was ready to go again. But midway through the first half, the 28-year-old started to look uncomfortable. Tests after the match confirmed what fans feared: it’s a fresh muscular problem, though unrelated to the previous one. Fabrizio Romano shared the information in a tweet via his official X account.

He tweeted:

PSG confirm Ousmane Dembélé has suffered a left calf injury, which will keep him sidelined for several weeks. The Ballon d’Or is also going to be out for the upcoming international break.

In an official statement released Wednesday, November 5, PSG said Dembélé will stay under medical supervision for the next few weeks. The update also mentioned more worries for the club—Achraf Hakimi is out with a serious left ankle sprain, while Nuno Mendes is nursing a sprained left knee. Not exactly the news Luis Enrique wanted heading into a packed schedule.

The timing couldn’t be worse either. Dembélé will now miss France’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers during the international break, the second time in a row he’ll be unavailable after missing October’s games because of a right hamstring tear from September.

His absence leaves a gap both for PSG and for Didier Deschamps’ national team setup. Dembélé’s pace and flair have been key to PSG’s attack this season, and when he’s fit, he just makes things happen. Now, though, they’ll have to cope without him — again — while he fights to come back stronger, as he’s done so many times before.

Kasper Schmeichel at 39: The Keeper Who Built His Own Legacy

5 November 2025 at 22:00

Today, November 5, 2025, marks the 39th birthday of Danish football legend Kasper Schmeichel, a goalkeeper whose career has been built on resilience, leadership, and the kind of quiet determination that defines true greatness. From underdog victories to international heroics, Schmeichel’s story is one of persistence and pride, a journey distinct from yet forever connected to the shadow of his father, Peter Schmeichel. Well, just like fellow birthday boy Marco Verratti, Schmeichel is a one-of-a-kind and reliable player.

Born in Copenhagen but raised in England, Softfootball understands that Kasper grew up surrounded by football but had to fight to prove he wasn’t just another famous surname. His path was never straightforward. He started out at Manchester City, moving from one loan spell to another, until he eventually found his place at Leicester City in 2011 for what now feels like a laughably small £1.5 million fee. What followed became one of the most remarkable chapters in Premier League history.

Kasper Schmeichel (Photo Credit: Leicester City)

During his time at Leicester, he transformed from a solid goalkeeper into a true leader. When Leicester shocked the world in 2016 by winning the Premier League title as 5,000-to-1 outsiders, Schmeichel was right at the heart of it, pulling off saves that kept the dream alive week after week. It was almost poetic that he was the same age his father had been when Peter won his first title at Manchester United. Five years later, Kasper captained Leicester to their first-ever FA Cup triumph, lifting the trophy after a dramatic victory over Chelsea. It was a proud moment for a man who had become the club’s heartbeat.

Sadly, since he left, Leicester has spiralled downward, as the club are currently playing in the Championship, the second division of English football and even had to let Wilfred Ndidi go when they accepted Besiktas’ bid for the player.

His exploits in Europe were no less memorable. In 2017, he saved crucial penalties against Sevilla in both legs of the Champions League round of 16, sending Leicester into the quarter-finals. On those nights, he was not just Peter’s son, he was Kasper Schmeichel, the man who made the impossible seem ordinary.

For Denmark, his story has been just as special. At the 2018 World Cup, he set a national record by going 529 minutes without conceding a goal, surpassing his father’s long-standing record. In the round of 16 clash against Croatia, he saved a penalty in extra time and two more during the shootout, even though Denmark eventually bowed out. His heroics that night made headlines around the world. At Euro 2020, he once again showed his class with that famous save from Harry Kane’s penalty at Wembley; even if Kane scored from the rebound, Schmeichel’s quick reflexes drew admiration from fans and pundits alike.

He has since remained Denmark’s rock between the posts, leading with calm authority at Euro 2024 and beyond. Few goalkeepers in Europe command such trust and respect from teammates. After leaving Leicester in 2022, Schmeichel spent time in France with Nice and then in Belgium with Anderlecht before joining Celtic FC in July 2024 to reunite with his former Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers, a move where he posted on X via his official account that the move was a dream come true.

That reunion quickly paid off. In his debut season, he helped Celtic secure the Scottish Premiership title and the League Cup, saving a crucial penalty in the final against Rangers. He even equalled a club record by keeping five consecutive league clean sheets, a record that had stood since 1906.

Now at 39, Schmeichel is showing no signs of slowing down. He’s not just a veteran playing out his last years; he’s still driven, still sharp, and still proving that consistency can be as powerful as raw talent. His performances remain a mix of experience, instinct, and composure, with fewer dramatic dives but smarter decisions that show how much he’s learned over the years.

Beyond the trophies, Schmeichel’s story is one about identity and perseverance. For years he was judged by his surname, but through his own achievements, he became his own man, one who led, inspired, and stood tall when it mattered most. His leadership, loyalty, and knack for saving penalties have earned him respect everywhere he’s played.

As he celebrates his 39th birthday, Kasper Schmeichel stands as one of Denmark’s greatest footballers, not because of who his father was, but because of who he became. His gloves have told a story of courage and consistency, from the miracle of Leicester to the proud nights with Denmark to his current chapter in Scotland. His career has been about proving that greatness doesn’t always have to should, sometimes, it just quietly endures.

Mac Allister Strikes Again as Liverpool Edge Real Madrid in UCLThriller at Anfield

5 November 2025 at 02:52

Alexis Mac Allister was once again Liverpool’s hero on the European stage, scoring against Real Madrid for the second consecutive season as Arne Slot’s side claimed a hard-fought 1-0 victory in their UEFA Champions League (UCL) league phase encounter at Anfield, contrary to the pre-game prediction, which expected Real Madrid to take control of Liverpool’s recent dip in form.

Softfootball reports that the buildup to the match was filled with intrigue, not least due to Trent Alexander-Arnold’s return to Merseyside. The right-back started on the bench, watching on as Liverpool made a bright start. Mac Allister set the tone early, firing just over the bar, before Thibaut Courtois produced a superb save to deny Dominik Szoboszlai, who was cleverly found by Florian Wirtz.

The game’s first major talking point arrived just after the half-hour mark when referee István Kovács initially awarded Liverpool a free kick for Aurélien Tchouaméni’s apparent handball on the edge of the area. However, following a VAR review, the decision was overturned, much to the frustration of the Anfield crowd, who had expected a penalty. Liverpool didn’t lose focus, and Szoboszlai responded with a fierce right-footed strike that Courtois again managed to turn away.

The first half ended on a knife’s edge, with both Jude Bellingham and Mac Allister going close in a thrilling spell before the interval. Also, Florian Wirtz contributed well after his manager defended him in the pre-game press conference.

The second half began with Liverpool firmly on the front foot, launching wave after wave of attack. Courtois was in inspired form, producing two outstanding saves to deny headers from Virgil van Dijk and Hugo Ekitike, before the latter narrowly missed another chance moments later. But the Belgian’s resistance was finally broken when Mac Allister rose highest to meet Szoboszlai’s free-kick, powering home a brilliant header to give Liverpool a deserved lead.

It was the Argentine’s third career UCL goal, and notably, his second against Real Madrid, cementing his reputation as a man for the big occasion. Also, the win secured consecutive clean sheets for Liverpool, a feat recognised on the club’s official X handle.

Alexander-Arnold entered the fray in the 81st minute, replacing Arda Güler, though his return was met with a mixed reception from the home crowd. Courtois continued to battle valiantly, denying Cody Gakpo from close range, but Real Madrid ultimately struggled to find a response.

Liverpool held firm to secure what could prove a crucial victory in their campaign, their first set of back-to-back wins since a seven-match streak ended with defeat to Crystal Palace in late September.

For Xabi Alonso’s men, the defeat extends a worrying trend, as Real Madrid have now won just two of their last 10 matches against English opposition (D3, L5).

It was a night to remember at Anfield, one where Slot’s Liverpool showed grit, creativity, and the composure needed to topple Europe’s most successful club.

Manchester City vs Borussia Dortmund: UCL Group Stage Heavyweights Battle for Top Spot

5 November 2025 at 02:17

The only two teams with seven points after three rounds of UEFA Champions League (UCL) group phase action go head-to-head as Manchester City host Borussia Dortmund in what promises to be a pulsating encounter at the Etihad Stadium.

City will be ruing their missed opportunity to make it nine points from nine after twice surrendering the lead against Monaco on matchday two their only dropped points of the campaign so far. Softfootball understands that Pep Guardiola’s men have responded strongly, securing five wins from their last six competitive games (L1), including a solid 3-1 Premier League victory over Bournemouth on Sunday.

The English champions will take confidence from their formidable UCL home record, having gone 22 home group-stage matches unbeaten since September 2018 (W19, D3). That consistency underlines their dominance on home soil, and with their attacking form firing again, few would bet against them extending that streak.

Meanwhile, Dortmund travel to Manchester after a narrow 1-0 win away to Augsburg on Friday night. Despite Bayern Munich’s relentless form leaving them trailing in the Bundesliga race, Edin Terzić’s side have been quietly impressive this season with just one defeat from their last ten UCL matches (W6, D3).

Manchester City are hoping to stir the tension a bit, as they uploaded a throwback video of a flawless Joe Hart performance against Dortmund back in 2012 on their official X account.

The Yellow and Blacks have scored four goals in each of their three UCL outings so far, including two on the road, showing their attacking intent remains lethal. Dortmund shouldn’t be underestimated — even as underdogs — especially considering their resilience in Europe.

City have the upper hand historically in this fixture, leading the UCL head-to-head (W3, D2, L1), and remain unbeaten in their last eight games against German opposition (W5, D3). Guardiola himself is unbeaten in ten consecutive matches versus Dortmund (W6, D4).

Team News

Manchester City are close to full strength again with Rodri back in action. The Spanish midfielder’s return will provide stability in the middle of the park.
For Dortmund, Nico Schlotterbeck missed Friday’s Bundesliga clash with illness but could return for this vital European tie.

Possible Lineups

Manchester City (4-3-3):
Donnarumma; Nunes, Stones, Dias, Ait-Nouri; Gonzalez; Savinho, Reijnders, Foden, Doku; Haaland

Borussia Dortmund (4-2-3-1):
Kobel; Schlotterbeck, Anton, Bensebaini; Couto, Nmecha, Bellingham, Svensson; Adeyemi, Beier; Guirassy

Softfootball’s Prediction

Manchester City’s UCL home dominance and attacking depth make them clear favourites, but Dortmund’s sharpness in front of goal could test them after the break, especially with Serhou Guirassy’s habit of scoring late.

Prediction: Manchester City 3–1 Borussia Dortmund

Social Media Divides Over David Beckham’s Knighthood After X User’s Viral Defense

5 November 2025 at 01:48

Softfootball reports that football icon David Beckham’s knighthood from King Charles III has stirred both admiration and controversy online after an X user defended the honour against what he called a “misguided” public perception. This is a totally different unique conversation had by our X readers, as we reported a previous topic of discussion which was on Arsenal’s mastery of set pieces.

The debate began when user S. Ketts (@Hull1904) responded to a wave of comments suggesting Beckham received his knighthood merely for being a famous footballer. His post aimed to correct that notion, emphasizing Beckham’s extensive humanitarian work and long-term commitment to global causes.

David Beckham (Photo Credit: The Royal Family X Handle)

S. Ketts wrote in full:

A lot of people seem to be thinking he’s got this solely because he was a footballer and not for the 20 years of charity work he’s done for UNICEF and his campaigning and funding towards ending malaria.

The intention behind the post was clear: S. Ketts wanted to remind critics that Beckham’s knighthood was not just about football glory but about decades of philanthropic engagement and advocacy. Since 2005, Beckham has served as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, launched the 7 Fund to support vulnerable children, and contributed to health and education campaigns across Africa and Asia.

However, while some users supported this view, others fired back, accusing Beckham of being selective in his activism and questioning his motives.

User JD (@Funky_Boite) replied sarcastically:

Aye and his tireless campaign to get the World Cup to Qatar was a belter too.

Another commenter, ME (@kazdj), echoed frustration over perceived inequality in recognition, writing:

Thousands of people across the country have worked tirelessly for charities without recognition!

For Paul Williams (@lutonlip), the issue was more personal.

He claimed:

A self-centred narcissist who campaigned for an award others are more worthy of and Sky give him air-time! Wake up.

The criticism escalated when Derek Richard Maher (@Drkmaher) accused Beckham of hypocrisy over his partnerships and endorsements.

He tweeted:

Oh yes, soooo charitable as to work alongside the mass murderer Bill Gates pushing the clot shots. Not forgetting his high paid job at the World Cup in Qatar. He’s a diamond.

The online debate reflects the polarisation surrounding celebrity honours in Britain, particularly when they intersect with fame, politics, and moral perception.

Accompanied by his wife, Victoria Beckham, now Lady Victoria Beckham, and his parents, Ted and Sandra, the 50-year-old former England captain was officially knighted for “outstanding services to sport and charity”.

While social media remains split, Beckham’s knighthood cements his legacy as one of Britain’s most influential sportsmen and global ambassadors admired by many, questioned by some, but impossible to ignore.

Sir David Beckham Knighted by King Charles III in Emotional Windsor Castle Ceremony

4 November 2025 at 23:18

In what he described as the proudest moment of his life, football legend David Beckham was officially knighted by King Charles III at Windsor Castle on Tuesday, November 4, 2025.

Softfootball reports that the 50-year-old former England captain received the title of Knight Bachelor in recognition of his exceptional contributions to sport and charity, joining an elite circle of British icons honoured by the Crown.

In an earlier report David Beckham revealed that the closest player to him in terms of style is Trent Alexander-Arnold, and with this recent recognition the bar has been raised a bit higher for the likes of Trent or any other footballer trying to reach Beckham’s heights.

Beckham, visibly moved, told reporters after the ceremony that the recognition meant more than he ever imagined, and fans of Inter Miami can take solace from this recognition following their team’s last defeat to Nashville FC.

He was joined at the royal event by his wife, Victoria Beckham, now formally Lady Victoria Beckham—and his parents, Ted and Sandra Beckham, who looked on proudly as he knelt before the King. The Royal Family official X handle uploaded the video via their official X account.

The traditional investiture saw King Charles tap Beckham on both shoulders with a ceremonial sword, officially conferring knighthood. His attire for the occasion carried personal significance: an elegant morning suit designed by Victoria, inspired by the style of a young King Charles.

Beckham’s knighthood, first announced in the King’s Birthday Honours List in June, crowns a career that has transcended sport. On the field, he earned 115 caps for England, third on the nation’s all-time list, and played a key role in London’s successful bid for the 2012 Olympics.

Off the pitch, Beckham has been a dedicated humanitarian. Since 2005, he has served as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and later launched the 7 Fund, an initiative supporting children in crisis around the world.

The newly minted Sir David Beckham now joins a distinguished line of footballing legends knighted for their service to the game, including Sir Bobby Charlton and Sir Geoff Hurst.

Also recognised at the Windsor ceremony were Nobel laureate Kazuo Ishiguro, who was appointed a Companion of Honour, and actress Elaine Paige, who was made a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire.

Cristiano Ronaldo Speaks on United, Family Priorities, and Retirement in Tell-All Interview

4 November 2025 at 21:46

The first part of the newly released interview with Piers Morgan was released via Morgan’s official X account. Cristiano Ronaldo opened up on a wide range of subjects, from Manchester United’s ongoing struggles to his future in football, his personal life, and even his growing detachment from material luxuries.

Softfootball reported that the Al Nassr forward, who remains one of football’s most iconic figures, gave fans a deeper glimpse into his mindset at this stage of his career in an earlier released snippet.

Reflecting on Manchester United’s current situation, Ronaldo expressed sadness over the club’s decline, stating that the club is still very much important to him, lamenting the lack of structure at Old Trafford, and urging the need for smart leadership to rebuild for the future.

He said:

Well, as you mentioned, good question. For me, I’m sad because it’s a club that’s one of the most important in the world, and a club that I still have in my heart for obvious reasons. You have to follow with intelligent people, smart people, to create a base for the future.
As Manchester United had so many years ago, Nicky Butt, Carrick, Roy Keane, Beckham — they became big players but they had youth. So Manchester United right now doesn’t have a structure. I hope that changes in the future, because the potential of the club is amazing. It’s one of the most important clubs of the century.

Ronaldo, who won the Champions League, Ballon d’Or, and multiple domestic titles with United, admitted he still follows the club closely and feels disappointed by their decline. Speaking about manager Rúben Amorim, Ronaldo offered measured support but made it clear that no coach could perform miracles overnight.

He revealed:

Of course, because I played there so many years. I won the Champions League, I won the Ballon d’Or, I won like 12, 13, 14 titles there. So as I say and repeat , Manchester United is still in my heart. I love that club.
But we have to be honest and look at ourselves and say, listen, they are not on a good path. So they need to change. And it’s not only about the coach or players, in my opinion.

He’s doing his best. What can you do , miracles? Miracles, this is impossible.
We say in Portugal, Miracles are only in Fátima.
You know that expression?
You know the Fátima?
You’re not going to do miracles. Even though Manchester United have good players, some of them don’t have the right mindset , what it means to play for Manchester United.

When asked about retirement, Ronaldo admitted that the end of his playing career is near, but he is mentally preparing for it. Despite still being deeply passionate about football, Ronaldo confessed that nothing will ever compare to the feeling of playing.

He claimed:

Soon, yes. But I think I’ll be prepared. It will be tough, of course. It will be difficult. Probably I’ll cry, yes, I’m an easy guy to cry. I don’t hide my feelings. I’m honest, I’m open.
It’ll be very, very difficult. But I’ve been preparing my future since I was 25, 26, 27 years old. I think I’ll be capable of handling that pressure.
Nothing will compare. The adrenaline we have for football, to score a goal, it’s unique. But as I say, everything has a beginning and an end.

I think I’ll be ready. I have other passions. I’ll have more time for myself and my family, especially for Bella. I’ve started to feel it when I travel and stay away so many days.
I want to follow Cristiano Jr., he’s at that age where he can start doing silly things, normal, because I did the same. I want to be there for him. I love football, but I want to be more family-oriented, more present.

Ronaldo also spoke candidly about his changing relationship with money and material possessions, admitting that his priorities have evolved. Asked how many cars he owns, the Portuguese star replied with a laugh, revealing that he doesn’t know and doesn’t keep tabs of things like that. He noted that he rarely drives in Saudi Arabia due to the heavy traffic but shared a lighter moment from his current club, Al Nassr, revealing the last time he drove.

Watch the full video below:

He explained:

I don’t spend money, for example. I’m not big on shopping. I can buy whatever I want, but I don’t need it anymore. Sometimes, okay, three days ago, I bought a car, but it’s for collection, like buying a painting. I’m not going to drive it, it’s an investment.
Mercedes. I have Mercedes, I buy Bugatti too, but it’s investment.
I don’t know how many cars I have, Piers. I don’t count. Maybe 50? Honestly, 40 or 50. I swear on my kids, I don’t know.
I love the Bugattis. I have a few. They’re different beasts. But I don’t drive them. For example, I was one week in Madrid and didn’t even go to my garage to see them.

When they come back from inspection, I just look, they’re clean, they’re good. For me, cars are not a passion anymore.
Yes, I drive, but not much in Saudi because of the traffic. We train in the afternoon, traffic is terrible. But when I go home, it’s clear. Yesterday, for example, Al Nassr have a BMW sponsorship, all players got a new car. I drove home in my new BMW. But I don’t drive a lot here, maybe once in six months

On his personal life, Ronaldo confirmed that wedding plans with Georgina Rodríguez have been discussed but not finalised. Ronaldo also reminisced about his first professional goal with Sporting Lisbon, recalling it as the moment that defined his belief in his own potential.

He said:

Not yet. We planned to do it after the World Cup, with the trophy.

We didn’t plan that because she’s not the type who likes big parties. She likes private things. I respect her decision. Why not? You’re invited!

Yes, for Sporting (His first goal). You should see it unbelievable goal! That was the moment people said, This guy will be a good player. I was 17, quicker and smarter than the rest. That goal gave me confidence. It made me believe I could be a top professional.

Ending the conversation with a reflection on his longevity and mindset, Ronaldo described his perspective on being substituted during a Portugal match after scoring twice; in the meantime, he is going to sit out Al Nassr’s AFC Champions League 2 clash with FC Goa.

He explained:

Honestly, sometimes we think the easy way is better, but it’s not. I understand the coach, maybe he wanted to protect the result, put in a fresh player. I would’ve liked to stay to score a third, but it’s okay. I’ve scored so many hat-tricks already, one more or less doesn’t matter to me anymore.

From his reflections on Manchester United’s troubles to his own life after football, the interview paints a picture of a man at peace with his legacy but still fiercely passionate about the game that made him a global icon.

Maresca Draws Parallels Between Romeo Lavia and Reece James’ Recovery Ahead of Qarabag Clash

4 November 2025 at 19:53

Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has once again underlined his careful handling of midfielder Romeo Lavia’s recovery process, drawing direct parallels with the fitness path of club captain Reece James. Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s UEFA Champions League clash against Qarabag, Maresca confirmed that Lavia remains under a strict recovery plan designed to prevent further setbacks.

Fabrizio Romano quoted the gaffer via his official X account, stressing the need for the 21-year-old’s minutes to be carefully controlled, similar to how the club handled James’ gradual return to action.

He posted:

Maresca: I’d love to have Romeo Lavia always on the pitch but it’s my duty to protect him. The main target for Romeo is to be fit. Don’t get any injuries. For me in this moment Romeo is where Reece was more or less one year ago.

Softfootball understands that since joining Chelsea from Southampton in 2023, Lavia has made just 29 appearances due to a series of muscular issues. Maresca revealed that the midfielder’s playing time has been deliberately limited to aid his recovery. However, Maresca admitted that they are happy with the midfielder, and it is important that he finally reaches full fitness.

Meanwhile, Reece James’ successful return has served as an encouraging blueprint for Lavia’s rehabilitation. After years of injury struggles, James is now fully fit and capable of playing multiple games per week. Maresca praised his captain’s professionalism and discipline, describing him as 100% fit and in top physical condition, even when rotation keeps him out of the starting lineup; however, in the last four games that have seen him start, he completed all 90-plus minutes, just like in the club’s narrow 1-nil victory over Tottenham.

With Chelsea preparing for a busy stretch of fixtures across all competitions, Maresca reaffirmed the importance of patience in managing Lavia’s return Sending the Belgian to another long-term injury due to mismanagement will be very fatal to Chelsea’s squad depth.

UEFA Champions League Match Preview: Paris Saint-Germain vs Bayern Munich

4 November 2025 at 02:12

A blockbuster European showdown awaits as Paris Saint-Germain host Bayern Munich in matchday four of the UEFA Champions League league phase. Both sides, serial winners in their respective domestic leagues, currently occupy the top two spots in the group and enter the clash in formidable form.

PSG, fresh off a dramatic 1-0 win over Nice courtesy of a 94th-minute strike, remain unbeaten in eight games across all competitions (W5, D3). Their attacking firepower was on full display during the 7-2 demolition of Bayer Leverkusen on matchday three that sent fans wild in disbelief, and another win here would see them achieve their longest-ever winning run in the Champions League. However, Softfootball understands that they’ve failed to win their fourth group-stage game in each of the last four editions, leaving fans cautiously optimistic.

Bayern, meanwhile, continue to operate like a well-oiled machine. A 3-0 triumph over Leverkusen at the weekend maintained their perfect Bundesliga record, nine wins from nine, and their European campaign has been equally ruthless. Having already dispatched Chelsea, Pafos, and recently Club Brugge in a 4-nil victory, Vicent Kompanyl’s men are on a 15-game winning streak across all competitions. Yet, they haven’t won any of their last five Champions League matches against the competition’s reigning champions (D1, L4), a record they’ll be eager to amend in Paris.

Bayern uploaded a video of the team getting ready ahead of the encounter tomorrow night on their official X account.

Historically, Bayern have had the upper hand in this fixture, winning the last four Champions League meetings without conceding, though PSG did claim bragging rights with a clean-sheet victory at the FIFA Club World Cup this summer.

Team News

PSG will be without Désiré Doué, who remains sidelined, but Hansi Flick has an otherwise fully fit squad to choose from. Bayern boast near full strength as well, with no fresh absentees ahead of their trip to the French capital.

Achraf Hakimi remains one to watch; the Moroccan full-back has contributed to a goal in five consecutive UCL appearances (2 goals, 3 assists), the joint-longest streak by a defender in the competition. For Bayern, Nicolas Jackson poses a late threat, having scored five of his six European goals after half-time.

Possible Lineups

PSG (4-3-3): Chevalier; Hakimi, Marquinhos, Pacho, Mendes; Vitinha, Zaire-Emery, Neves; Kvaratskhelia, Dembele, Barcola
Bayern Munich (4-2-3-1): Neuer; Laimer, Upamecano, Tah, Bischof; Kimmich, Pavlovic; Olise, Kane, Diaz; Jackson

SoftFootball’s Prediction

With both sides among the top scorers in this season’s Champions League, the stage is set for a high-octane encounter. PSG have scored after half-time in every home game this term, while Bayern have netted 3+ goals in seven straight away matches. Expect fireworks in Paris, but the visitors’ clinical edge might just tilt it.

Prediction: PSG 2–3 Bayern Munich

Cristiano Ronaldo Claps Back at Wayne Rooney in Explosive Piers Morgan Interview

4 November 2025 at 01:32

Cristiano Ronaldo has reignited his long-running rivalry with former Manchester United teammate Wayne Rooney, taking a subtle but pointed dig at him during a new interview with British journalist Piers Morgan. Softfootball earlier revealed that the Portuguese star teased the interview, and now details from the interview are beginning to surface.

In a teaser clip from Morgan’s upcoming interview, set to air on Piers Morgan Uncensored on November 4, the Portuguese superstar appeared visibly irked when informed that Rooney had once again picked Lionel Messi as the greatest footballer of all time (GOAT), a debate that has split fans and pundits for over a decade. The video was uploaded via the Piers Morgan Podcast X handle.

Watch the video below:

The Portuguese superstar, who shared the pitch with Rooney for five seasons between 2004 and 2009, expressed open disagreement when informed of Rooney’s comments. Despite insisting there was no personal problem between them, Ronaldo made it clear he disagreed with Rooney’s preference for Messi, saying he didn’t feel the need to be humble about his own greatness.

He said:

I don’t agree with Wayne Rooney. I don’t want to be humble.

This renewed tension between the two United legends has once again brought the long-running GOAT debate back into the spotlight. Rooney, speaking earlier on The Overlap, explained that while both players are phenomenal and among the best to ever play the game, he leans towards Messi because of his flair and natural creativity. That reasoning, however, clearly didn’t sit well with Ronaldo, who has never been shy about asserting his place at the top of football’s history books.

The upcoming interview also stirs memories of Ronaldo’s explosive 2022 conversation with Morgan, where he made controversial remarks that led to his Manchester United exit. At the time, he appeared to mock Rooney, calling him and others “rats” for criticising him publicly.

Now at Al Nassr, Ronaldo remains as outspoken as ever, using his platform to defend his achievements and legacy, something that some are questioning if his achievements are overshadowing his team and if Al Nassr are too dependent on his brilliance. With the full interview yet to air, fans are already bracing for more bold claims and fiery statements as Ronaldo once again fuels one of football’s most talked-about rivalries both on and off the pitch.

Manchester City 3-1 Bournemouth: A Study in Control and Composure

4 November 2025 at 00:22

Manchester City’s 3-1 victory over Bournemouth at the Etihad Stadium on November 2, 2025, wasn’t just another box ticked in their Premier League campaign; it was a quiet statement of authority. This wasn’t the usual Pep Guardiola side suffocating their opponents with endless possession. No, this was City playing smart, calm football and showing that control doesn’t always come from the ball itself, but from how you use it.

In an unusual twist that had fans reacting after the encounter, Softfootball reports that City finished the match with only 48% possession, conceding the territorial edge to Bournemouth’s 52%. But that statistic didn’t tell the story. Pep’s men operated with a poise and efficiency that bordered on clinical. Bournemouth, under Unai Iraola, came with intent, pressing high, pushing City’s build-up to the limit, and refusing to sit back. Yet, the home side seemed unfazed, soaking up pressure like they’d seen it all before.

At the heart of it was Nico Gonzalez, the 23-year-old Spanish maestro who ran the midfield with rare composure. His 90% passing accuracy and seven key passes into the final third turned pressure into poise. Every touch from him looked like a decision: when to quicken play, when to hold it, and when to break lines. It was control, disguised as calmness.

Josko Gvardiol’s Tackle on Antoine Semeyo in a video uploaded by Manchester City via their official X account sums up the mentality of the team, and it proves they can go down and dirty when the need arises.

City might’ve had less of the ball, but they made every touch count. They registered nine corners to Bournemouth’s four and completed dribbles at a higher rate, 50% compared to their opponent’s 38%. That edge in efficiency was enough to tilt the balance. Erling Haaland did what he does best, pouncing twice before halftime, his finishing as cold and sharp as ever, what you expect from your number 9 when playing this system.

Bournemouth clawed one back early in the second half, but City didn’t flinch. The rhythm never broke. They managed the game with a veteran’s nerve, waited for their chance, and sealed the win with a third goal that summed up their night: disciplined, deliberate, and deadly.

It wasn’t about fireworks or fancy stats this time. It was about City proving that dominance isn’t always about possession; sometimes, it’s about patience, precision, and pure control.

Ryan Gravenberch: “Liverpool Have to Be Spot On Against Mbappé and Vinícius”

3 November 2025 at 23:13

Ryan Gravenberch faced the media on Monday afternoon ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League showdown with Real Madrid at Anfield. Softfootball reports that the Dutch midfielder, who scored on his return from injury during the Reds’ 2-0 win over Aston Villa, discussed his improving form, the influence of manager Arne Slot, and what it’ll take to stop Madrid’s attacking stars.

Liverpool revealed that the midfielder granted a pre-match press conference ahead of the encounter via the team’s official X account.

They posted:

— Liverpool FC (@LFC) November 3, 2025

Gravenberch admitted that his father’s advice has been paying off this season, especially in front of goal. He added that his dad remains an important voice in his development.

He said:

I think I listened to my dad more this season! He always says to me, ‘You have to shoot more, shoot more.’ This season, you see what happens! Even on Saturday against Villa, I shot, and it got deflected. So, I just have to shoot more.

He has watched every game, and we talk about what I can do better. I listen to him a lot — especially this season.

When asked about the significance of facing Real Madrid, Gravenberch kept things simple and focused. The 23-year-old acknowledged the threat that Real Madrid pose, especially from the left side where Kylian Mbappé and Vinícius Júnior are known to cause havoc. Gravenberch also credited Arne Slot for the trust and confidence he’s been given since the manager took over.

He revealed:

I think every game is important. Obviously now we play against Madrid, and if we win it will be good for us. But we go game by game, and we just focus on Madrid tomorrow.

They are doing really great this season. The whole team basically, but especially if you see Mbappé or Vinicius on the left , when they go in behind, it’s a big strength of them. We need to be spot on tomorrow if we face them.

For me (Arne Slot), he’s really important. When he came here, he gave me the chance to become a starting XI player, gave me a lot of confidence, and the opportunity to show myself again to the world. For that, I’m really happy.

When the topic shifted to Mbappé, Gravenberch couldn’t help but smile, hinting that his teammate Ibrahima Konaté might have a few secrets about handling the French star.

He analysed:

Ibou knows him very well I have to speak with Ibou about this maybe! But we know he’s a top, top player with really good quality. He can play in behind, he can come on the ball, and he’s a good finisher. It will not be easy for us, but we’ll do everything to try to stop him.

We are trying to do the same things, but for the new players, it’s not always easy because they come to a new team, new coach, new principles of play. It takes time. But they’re already doing a good job.

Finally, he reflected on adjusting to a deeper midfield role, something that demanded both patience and learning.

He explained:

How easy was it? It was not easy!. I had played there before a little bit, so I knew what to expect. When the coach came, I had big conversations with him about what he expects from me. Now, I just focus on the six position and try to do my best there.

Liverpool will host Real Madrid at Anfield on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, in what promises to be one of the most anticipated games of the Champions League group stage.

Liverpool Hit by Triple Injury Blow, as Arne Slot confirms Isak will miss Madrid game

3 November 2025 at 22:16

Liverpool’s preparations for their blockbuster Champions League encounter with Real Madrid have been rocked by another wave of injury setbacks, as manager Arne Slot confirmed that Alexander Isak, Alisson Becker, and Jeremie Frimpong will all miss Tuesday night’s showdown at Anfield.

Speaking during his pre-match press conference, Slot didn’t leave room for speculation, saying bluntly that all three are not available for tomorrow’s showdown. It’s a blow that couldn’t come at a worse time for the Reds, who are entering one of the most demanding stretches of their season.

Softfootball understands that Isak’s absence, in particular, is frustrating for both the player and supporters. The £125 million summer signing has struggled to build rhythm since joining from Newcastle, sidelined by a groin issue that forced him off during the 5-1 demolition of Eintracht Frankfurt on October 22. Slot admitted his irritation but hinted at cautious optimism in a statement revealed by Liverpool via the team’s official X account.

Arne Slot confirmed Alisson Becker, Jeremie Frimpong and Alexander Isak remain unavailable for tomorrow's clash with Real Madrid 💬

— Liverpool FC (@LFC) November 3, 2025

He said:

All three are not available for tomorrow; Jeremie and Alisson will both also not be available for Sunday.

With Alex we have to wait and see. Definitely not starting on Sunday, but maybe he can be involved in the squad. He is still not training with the team, so we have to wait and see.

Meanwhile, Alisson and Frimpong remain out with hamstring problems suffered in October. Both players have been key to Liverpool’s defensive structure, Alisson as the commanding shot-stopper and Frimpong as a pacey, dynamic presence on the right flank. Slot also confirmed the pair will miss Sunday’s Premier League clash against Manchester City, deepening Liverpool’s selection headache.

Alisson Becker (Photo Credit - Liverpool Official Website)

The absences come at a critical moment, with the Reds facing two high-stakes fixtures in four days. Alisson’s replacement between the posts, likely Caoimhín Kelleher, will once again shoulder heavy responsibility, while the right side of defence could see tactical reshuffling.

A small silver lining for the Merseyside outfit is the return of Curtis Jones to full training, adding some spark to the midfield. Still, with their top striker and two defensive anchors unavailable, Liverpool’s depth and resilience are about to be tested to the limit, and against Real Madrid, that margin for error is razor thin.

FC Barcelona Teams Up with AMIRI in Stylish Five-Year Partnership

3 November 2025 at 20:44

After that comfortable 3-1 victory over Elche in La Liga, FC Barcelona has officially teamed up with US luxury fashion house AMIRI in a brand-new five-year deal that’ll see the Los Angeles-based label become the club’s Official Formalwear Partner through the 2029/30 season.

Softfootball reports that the collaboration brings together the best of two worlds, the bold creativity of fashion and the rich sporting culture of Barça, producing custom-tailored suits for both the men’s and women’s teams, along with the club’s top executives and board members. And after fans reacted to the last victory enjoyed by Barcelona, fans will once again be excited by the news.

The designs draw heavy inspiration from Barça’s iconic blaugrana colours, blending AMIRI’s signature modern flair with the club’s deep football identity. It’s not just about clothing; it’s about elegance, character, and how the club represents itself even off the pitch. Barcelona announced the collaboration in a post made on their official X account and club website.

They posted:

Where legacy meets innovation. AMIRI joins forces with FC Barcelona as official Formalwear Partner. A celebration of craftsmanship, culture, and confidence, designed for the athletes who define excellence. A partnership born from shared artistry. #BarçaxAMIRI

For the Winter set, AMIRI went with deep navy blue as the base, crafting beautifully tailored six-button overcoats, double-breasted jackets for men and single-breasted ones for women, paired with pinstripe wool trousers that flare just slightly. The outfit is completed with pinstripe poplin shirts, a blaugrana-striped tie, and a gold tie clip — a look that screams understated class but still carries that Barcelona edge.

When the weather turns warm, the tone softens. The summer outfits bring in a more relaxed elegance, a pinstriped shirt-collar blouson inspired by AMIRI’s sportswear roots but reworked into a formal statement. Lightweight knits stitched with AMIRI’s logo in Barça tones finish the look sharp yet easy on the eye.

Both brands share a similar mindset: precision, craft, and passion. The partnership doesn’t just dress players; it mirrors how sport and style can reflect the same values of ambition, confidence, and identity, a sentiment shared by Barcelona’s managing director, Manuel del Rio, when addressing the press.

He said:

The partnership with AMIRI represents a connection between two institutions that share the same ambitions: excellence, creativity and attention to detail. At FC Barcelona, we believe elegance is part of how we represent the club, both on and off the pitch.

The founder of Amiri, Mike Amiri, spoke about the unique bond that blends football and fashion and highlighted that shared values of both parties were critical to the deal.

He noted:

Soccer and fashion share a spirit born from passion and precision. Partnering with FC Barcelona lets AMIRI show that same pursuit of excellence through tailoring. It’s a celebration of shared values.

Founded in Los Angeles back in 2014, AMIRI has carved its own lane in luxury fashion — a mix of California cool and sharp craftsmanship. This partnership simply feels right: Barça brings the spirit, AMIRI brings the style, and together they’re rewriting what football elegance looks like.

Barcelona Fans React to 3–1 Win Over Elche: Joy, Frustration, and Hope

3 November 2025 at 02:10

Barcelona’s 3–1 victory over Elche at the Montjuïc Olympic Stadium on November 2, 2025, may have strengthened their title push, but among fans on X, the conversation went far beyond the scoreline. Softfootball reports that the mood was a mix of admiration, cautious optimism, and mild frustration, as supporters dissected the match from emotional and tactical angles.

Lamine Yamal scored the first goal for Barcelona with a neat finish before Ferran Torres extended Barcelona’s lead after some neat work from Fermin Lopez. Rafa Mir halved the deficit for Elche before the break, and it was Marcus Rashford, fresh from celebrating his 28th birthday, that decided the match with a powerful shot that sent the roof blazing, prompting fans to speak their opinions regarding the result.

For Vawulencia (@youngskidmusic_), the night was about chemistry and connection, the kind of raw emotion that makes football beautiful. His focus wasn’t on tactics or stats, but on the spirit of the players and how much they enjoy playing together.

He posted:

The way Fermin starts celebrating already even before Ferran scores the goal . And the way they all came to meet him for the celebration . Win or lose, these guys dey give me joy

His post highlighted how moments like Fermín López’s premature celebration, a spontaneous show of belief, capture the essence of team unity and remind fans why they love the game and support the club.

On the other hand, Aaron (@Barca4life733) provided a more structured match review, pointing out both strengths and weaknesses.

He analysed:

Once the pressing intensity is on, there’s no team in Europe that can stop us. It’s fair to say we were being lazy for the last month. We don’t have a better midfielder TACTICALLY than Casado. A lot of poor decisions on the ball is plaguing this team. There’s still a lack of focus in this team’s overall play. Again Szczęsny with a few key saves.

His tone reflected that section of the fanbase that admires Barcelona’s brilliance but demands more consistency and sharper focus.

UTAZiWiLD (@WildSmT) shifted the spotlight to the midfield, commending Frenkie de Jong and Marc Casadó for stepping up in Pedri’s absence.

He wrote:

We need to take our opportunities more. FDJ is a gem and along with Casado covered our midfield in the absence of Pedri. Great to be back to winning ways #ViscaBarca

Meanwhile, Feranmi Ade-Alao (@FeranmiAdeAlao) struck a hopeful tone, acknowledging the team’s imperfections but celebrating the return of key players.

He tweeted:

Grinded that one out somehow As usual, offence and defence needs tweaking, and refining, and all other areas of work. Good to see Olmo and Lewandoski back on the pitch. Let’s hope the others follow too To a more glorious progress Força barça

Not everyone was satisfied, though. Ayo dele (@themainAyo) voiced dissatisfaction with individual performances and defensive frailties.

He said:

Win but a very poor performance, rashy scored but he had an awful game. We will just dedicate yamal’s poor form to his injury and yah a better right back is needed, kounde has been awful for sometime now and it’s not improving. Without Pedri and Rafinha, weren’t that team

Similarly, Shifu (@_ThembaD) criticised Flick’s in-game decisions, calling out his substitution patterns and squad management.

He criticised:

Bad man management by Flick. Wrong subs or too late with the subs. Give Bernal some game time. Rest De Jong before same overuse issue as Pedri happens with him , Stop protecting and favouring Ferran. Give Ronny decent minutes or dont bother playing him.

In essence, Barcelona fans are torn between excitement and expectation. While some celebrate the growing chemistry and renewed momentum under Flick, others remain wary of recurring flaws. The 3–1 win against Elche brought three points, but also sparked deeper reflection on what still needs to improve if Barcelona are to truly close the gap on Real Madrid.

Barcelona Edge Elche 3-1 as Yamal and Rashford Shine to Close Gap on Real Madrid

3 November 2025 at 00:41

Barcelona continued their steady climb up the La Liga table, defeating Elche 3-1 at the Montjuïc Olympic Stadium on November 2, 2025, to move within five points of league leaders Real Madrid, who yesterday saw off Valencia 4-1 in their own fixture. The win also marked Barça’s ninth straight victory over Elche and stretched their unbeaten record in this fixture to 22 matches (W18, D4).

The game kicked off with intensity, and it didn’t take long for Lamine Yamal to light up the night. The 18-year-old prodigy pounced on a loose ball from Alejandro Balde’s press, slotting home in the 8th minute to give Barcelona the lead. Just moments later, Fermín López took advantage of a slip by Adrià Pedrosa, setting up Ferran Torres to make it 2-0 inside 12 minutes. Barcelona posted a video of Lamine Yamal celebrating and kissing the badge on their official X account.

Elche, though, refused to fold; Rafa Mir halved the deficit before halftime with a curling strike after slipping through a shaky Barça offside trap. Softfootball reported that the team would be without Pedri, as the Spanish midfielder suffered an injury after the El Clasico loss to Real Madrid, and without him, Barcelona struggled to control the game, with Elche surprisingly edging the Spanish champions in possession.

After the break, Barcelona steadied themselves. Marcus Rashford, who had earlier seen one goal disallowed and another effort blocked by the post, finally got his reward smashing in a thunderous shot that took a wicked deflection off the woodwork to seal the win.

Elche gave a good fight, with Mir twice rattling the crossbar, but it wasn’t enough. The result leaves them winless in their last four league outings (D1, L3), while Barça notch up six wins from seven home matches this season.

With Robert Lewandowski and Dani Olmo both returning to full fitness, Hansi Flick’s side look well-poised for a critical November packed with league and Champions League challenges.

Erling Haaland Unleashes “Robot Mode” as He Bags a Brace For Manchester City

2 November 2025 at 22:48

Erling Haaland just doesn’t stop scoring. Having just recovered from a knock that saw him miss the team’s EFL 3-1 victory over Swansea, the Manchester City forward marked another milestone today, netting twice in his side’s crucial victory over Bournemouth at the Etihad Stadium. The double took his tally to a staggering 26 goals for club and country this season, including 13 Premier League goals in just 10 appearances, underlining once again why he’s the most feared striker in world football.

Before the game, Softfootball expected the striker to come in and make an impact in the encounter But it wasn’t just the goals that got fans buzzing. Haaland debuted a brand-new celebration a robotic, jerky dance that had both the Etihad crowd and social media in a frenzy. Dubbed “Robot Mode”, the celebration looked straight out of a sci-fi film, with fans joking that Haaland might actually be an AI prototype. The Norwegian star performed it after both goals, grinning as his teammates joined in the fun.

While the celebration trended online, Haaland’s numbers are just as jaw-dropping. Averaging more than a goal per game, he’s comfortably leading the Premier League Golden Boot race and showing no signs of slowing down. Manager Pep Guardiola has always sung praises of his star man’s form, describing him as relentless, efficient, and evolving in every match. He was also the Man of the Match in the encounter against Bournemouth, as revealed by the team’s official X account.

they posted:

Haaland’s brace didn’t just secure the win it sent a message. With 13 goals in 10 league games, he’s on track for another record-breaking campaign, and if his “Robot Mode” becomes as iconic as his goal-scoring, the Premier League might just have a new celebration craze on its hands.

Moisés Caicedo Turns 24: A Rising Midfield Maestro Celebrates in Style

2 November 2025 at 20:41

Today, November 2, 2025, marks Moisés Caicedo’s 24th birthday, and what better way to celebrate than by producing a midfield masterclass in Chelsea’s gritty 1–0 win over Tottenham Hotspur at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The Ecuadorian dynamo was simply everywhere, intercepting passes, controlling rhythm, and snuffing out danger before Spurs could even blink. His performance earned him the Man of the Match award, and rightly so.

Since joining Chelsea in 2023 for a then-record £115 million from Brighton & Hove Albion, Softfootball reports Caicedo has gradually grown into one of the Premier League’s most complete midfielders. Under Enzo Maresca, he’s no longer just the destroyer; he’s the orchestrator too. His ability to win the ball and instantly switch play has been crucial this season, with four goals and one assist and the highest pass completion rate among Chelsea’s midfielders.

Caicedo’s mentality was evident in his post-match reaction, where he urged his team to ensure that they maintain the spirit shown against spurs and the standards that have become inconsistent with this team. Chelsea uploaded the video via their official X account.

Against Spurs, Caicedo was unplayable. He made seven ball recoveries, three interceptions, and even pulled off a vital block late on to preserve the clean sheet. Sources close to Softfootball revealed that he became the first Chelsea player since N’Golo Kanté in 2018 to record more than six tackles while maintaining over 90% passing accuracy in a North London Derby. Not bad company for the young Ecuadorian.

Chelsea wished the player happy birthday in a post made on X, referencing how important the Ecuadorian is to the team.

Off the field, Caicedo continues to win hearts. His newly launched foundation in Santo Domingo, Ecuador, supports grassroots football and underprivileged youth, a testament to his humility and connection to his roots.

As Chelsea chase a top-four finish, Caicedo’s performances are more than just a celebration; they’re a reminder that he’s not only the present of Chelsea’s midfield but also a massive part of its future.

Lewandowski and Olmo Return as Barcelona Gear Up for Elche Clash

2 November 2025 at 20:05

Barcelona fans finally have something to smile about as Hansi Flick welcomes back Robert Lewandowski and Dani Olmo to the squad ahead of Sunday’s La Liga showdown with Elche at the Montjuïc Olympic Stadium. Softfootball understands that both players have been given full medical clearance, as revealed by the club’s official X account after spending weeks on the sidelines, and their return couldn’t come at a better time for the Catalan giants.

Barcelona posted:

Lewandowski, who had been nursing a muscle injury, and Olmo, recovering from a stubborn knee problem, missed some crucial matches, including fixtures against Girona, Olympiacos, and Real Madrid. Their absence was deeply felt, especially in attack, where Barcelona struggled for consistency and a clinical edge.

However, Softfootball earlier revealed that both players were back and firing in training, and now, with both stars back to a competitive level, Flick’s squad suddenly looks much sharper and more balanced heading into a busy November filled with La Liga and Champions League commitments.

The full 21-man squad features a mix of first-team regulars and emerging young talents: Szczesny, Kochen, Eder Aller, Balde, Ronald Araujo, Cubarsí, Gerard Martín, Kounde, Eric, Xavi Espart, Fermín, Marc Casadó, Olmo, Frenkie De Jong, Bernal, Dro, Ferran Torres, Lewandowski, Lamine Yamal, Rashford, and Roony.

An excited Barcelona Media team posted a video of Barcelona’s dressing room soon in a post made via the club’s official X account, revealing that the Polish striker is definitely part of the team that takes on Elche today.

For Flick, this is a timely boost, as the German manager has been forced to try out some youngsters in training in a bid to maximise what the academy has to offer, a situation that youngster Tommy Marques enjoyed on his 19th birthday. Lewandowski brings back his trademark goal-scoring instinct, while Olmo adds much-needed flair and creativity to the midfield. With Barcelona currently sitting in the top three, the challenge now is maintaining that momentum.

Fans will be watching closely to see how Flick reshuffles his starting XI and whether the returning duo can inspire Barça to another crucial win.

Bayern Munich Determined to Secure Dayot Upamecano’s Future, Says Max Eberl

2 November 2025 at 19:46

Bayern Munich are not ready to risk losing one of their most important defenders, as Sporting Director Max Eberl insists the club is doing everything possible to keep Dayot Upamecano at the Allianz Arena.

The French defender, now 27, joined the Bavarian side from RB Leipzig back in 2021 for around €42 million, and since then, his progress has been nothing short of impressive. His current deal runs until 2026, but with big European clubs sniffing around, Bayern wants to get a new contract done sooner rather than later. As reported earlier, Max Eberl had admitted to the need to tie the defender to a new contract, as the player was attracting interest from top European clubs.

Speaking to the media, as revealed by sports expert Fabrizio Romano via his official X account, Eberl spoke with real admiration when describing Upa’s journey, hailing the player’s career as impeccable and also putting him forward as one of the best defenders in the world.

He said:

Bayern director Eberl: We are working and making sure we do everything we can to make Dayot Upamecano sign new contract.

Upa has developed into one of the best centre-backs in the world. He went through a phase where he made a few mistakes. We’ll do everything we can to make sure he stays,

Under Vincent Kompany, Upamecano has been solid, more confident on the ball, and reading the game better than ever. His displays this season, especially against more difficult opposition, have been top-class, showing both grit and maturity in equal measure, and his leadership was in full display when he marshalled Bayern to a 4-1 victory over FC Köln in the German DFB Pokal.

Still, Bayern’s urgency makes perfect sense. Softfootball understands that clubs like Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain are watching closely, ready to move if contract talks drag too long. Eberl confirmed that discussions are already happening, saying, ‘They are working on a new deal, as he believes the Frenchman is a big part of the German club’s future.

Right now, Upamecano’s value sits around €70 million, and a new deal will likely come with a raise fitting his stature. For Bayern, it’s about more than just money; it’s about keeping a defender who’s finally living up to his full potential. They’ve built something strong at the back, and losing him now? That’s not even an option.
