MLB suspends Pirates pitcher, manager for intentional throw at player

The Pirates’ manager and a pitcher were both suspended during a recent incident during a game against the Cincinnati Reds.

The MLB announced Tuesday that pitcher Chris Devenski was suspended for three games and issued an undisclosed fine for intentionally throwing at Sal Stewart at the top of the seventh inning last Saturday. The throw led to Devenski’s ejection from the game.

The suspension, unless appealed, will begin on Tuesday — which is the start of the Pirates’ road series in Arizona. If Devenski elects to appeal, the discipline will be held until the appeals process is complete.

Kelly was suspended for one game and issued an undisclosed fine for Devenski’s actions. He will serve the suspension on Tuesday.

Stefon Diggs trial Day 2 (live video): Prosecution rests after accuser’s testimony

The personal chef who accused former New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs of assault and attempted strangulation returned to the witness stand Tuesday before the prosecution rested its case on the second day of trial in Dedham District Court.

Watch Live: Trial of former Patriots star Stefon Diggs continues

Jamila Adams, Diggs’ former personal chef, was the first witness called by prosecutors on Monday. She remained under cross-examination by the defense on Tuesday morning, which continued challenging her credibility and version of events.

The defense called its first witnesses to the stand after Adams was dismissed.

Diggs is accused of assaulting and attempting to strangle Adams inside his Dedham home in December. He has pleaded not guilty.

On the first day of testimony, Diggs walked quickly into court without speaking to reporters.

Under questioning from prosecutors, Adams became emotional as she described the alleged assault, saying Diggs began choking her. She testified that the incident at his Dedham home on Dec. 2, 2025, followed a heated exchange of text messages between the two over payments she said she was owed.

Defense attorneys have pushed back on Adams’ account, arguing the assault never happened. They pointed out that Adams did not take photos of any alleged bruising or marks and failed to disclose to police that she and Diggs were involved in what they described as an intimate relationship.

The defense also noted Adams was upset about being excluded from a trip to Miami and suggested that anger may have played a role in her allegations.

Boston attorney Elyse Hershon, a legal analyst, said the defense aggressively highlighted inconsistencies in Adams’ testimony.

“We have to look at why she would lie about this, and the defense is bringing out information,” Hershon said. “She deleted text messages before she went to the police and showed an angry exchange between her and Diggs. That doesn’t look good. So something that doesn’t look good is something the defense will use in their closing — to really say you can’t believe her, you can’t trust her, she lied, she just wanted money.”

The trial is expected to last another one to two days. Adams is scheduled to resume testimony first thing Tuesday morning as cross-examination continues.

Instant team chemistry leading Parkland to postseason baseball

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Parkland baseball is poised for the postseason after a 35-win regular season.

The Cobras are led by a group of close-knit players who, by the nature of junior college, have spent at most two years together but have developed the chemistry of a four-year team.

“I love every single one of these guys, and I know that, like, we’re one of the tightest groups and that’s why I think it’s our biggest strength as a team that we can all pull for each other,” said infielder Jayden Patel.

Parkland has gone 19-4 since the calendar flipped to April, hitting its stride just in time for the Region 24 Championship.

“Everybody is promised two more baseball games together,” said head coach Zack Pych, a Parkland Baseball alumnus. “They love each other, so go out there and compete and see what happens.”

Play begins in the region tournament on Friday, May 8, as Parkland takes on Vincennes University at 9 a.m.

Final structural beam in place for Hornets’ new practice facility

The final structural beam is in place for the Charlotte Hornets’ new practice facility.

Channel 9’s DaShawn Brown was there for the milestone, one that signifies progress in more ways than one.

This was a moment 13 months in the making.

From Charlotte Hornets leaders and staff, to the construction crews themselves, all were there to mark a pivotal step in the future of the franchise.

“We’ve gone from kind of a forgotten team without a clear path and culture to a team with a really strong foundation,” said Hornets Co-Chairman Gabe Plotkin.

Monday morning, the Hornets and Novant Health raised the final beam on the Novant Health Performance Center. It’s set to open in spring of 2027 and features more than 160,000 square feet for training, office space, shops, and an orthopedic and sports medicine clinic that’s open to the public.

PREVIOUS COVERAGE:

“I do believe that there is just a process to showing up everyday, and kind of like this building, it’s unfinished,” Hornets Head Coach Charles Lee said. “And that’s how I feel about our team.”

“To see it actually manifest is special. Special to be a part of it,” said Hornets forward Grant Williams. “It’s been an honor to represent the city and I’m excited to hopefully be one of the first to step into the practice facility too because I know what the top of my mind whenever it opens, I’m going to be spending a lot of time there.”

Much like the crews currently constructing the performance center, the Hornets are also building.

“We were ahead of expectations,” said Hornets Co-Chairman Rick Schnall. “The team came together more quickly. We had expectations that we would be competitive, but obviously from the beginning of the year when we started winning, we were among the best teams in the league.”

“We’re one of the youngest teams in the league,” Plotkin said. “We have a ton of picks and it’s our job to figure out how we go from here to take it to the next level.”

Diggs faces charges of felony strangulation or suffocation and misdemeanor assault and battery.

He has pleaded not guilty and denies allegations that he strangled his former private chef during an incident at his Dedham home on Dec. 2, 2025.

Diggs had no comment as he made his way into court.

Prosecutors say the alleged altercation occurred during a dispute over unpaid wages. According to court documents, the woman told police that Diggs struck her in the face, placed her in a chokehold, and threw her onto a bed.

Boston 25 News has obtained text messages that appear to show Diggs and the woman arguing over money.

During a final pretrial hearing on Friday, defense attorneys objected to the alleged victim referencing a separate prior bad act in court. While details of that alleged incident were not discussed, the defense argued it could be used to explain why the woman delayed reporting the alleged assault for two weeks.

Insider claims Aaron Rodgers had major influence on Steelers draft

This story initially appeared on SteelersNow.com

The Pittsburgh Steelers are still waiting on quarterbackAaron Rodgersto decide whether or not he wants to continue playing football, but that doesn’t mean he’s not influencing how the team is operating this offseason.

In fact, NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero believes Rodgers had a big impact on the Steelers selections in the 2026 NFL Draft.

“He has talked to them since the draft,” Pelissero said on The Rich Eisen Show. “Everything the Steelers did in the draft may not have been designed for Aaron Rodgers, but certainly, if you were saying, ‘What might Aaron Rodgers want?’ A tackle, a guard who’s a bar room brawler, and a big slot receiver. Those are three things that Aaron Rodgers likes. So everything seems to have been built in that direction.”

Bank of America's 'Golf with Us' returns to the Treasure Coast for 2026

Bank of America has teamed up with Youth on Course to again offer free, one-year memberships to Treasure Coast kids ages 6-18.

Continuing on its commitment to make golf more accessible and affordable for kids, Bank of America announced the return of "Golf with Us." Children, ages 6-18, are invited to enroll in Golf with Us to access tee times for $5 or less to thousands of courses across Bank of America’s 97 markets through a free one-year membership to Youth on Course.

In its inaugural year, Bank of America’s Golf with Us drew nearly 100,000 youth participants from every state, Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico, with members logging more than 100,000 rounds of golf nationwide. Of those members, more than 22,000 were girls including many first-time golfers. This year, the Bank hopes to enroll 150,000 kids in Golf with Us.

Last year, more than 187 kids from the Treasure Coast took advantage of the offer and played 1,772 rounds.

Treasure Coast golf courses included for 2026 are:

  • The Shores of North River Golf Club, Stuart
  • The Champions Club at Summerfield, Stuart
  • Golf Galaxy, Port St. Lucie
  • Fairwinds Golf Course, Ft. Pierce
  • Mangrove Sands Golf Club, Vero Beach
  • Sandridge Golf Club, Vero Beach
  • Sebastian Golf Club, Sebastian

“Our belief in the power of sport to bring people together and broaden opportunity is reinforced by our partnerships that help us build stronger client connections, support local economies and inspire future generations,” said Brian Moynihan, chair and CEO of Bank of America. “In its first year, Golf with Us has helped nearly 100,000 kids learn invaluable life skills, and we look forward to building on this momentum with Rory’s terrific support and partners like Youth on Course.”

Golf with Us returned on golf’s grandest stage — the 2026 Masters Tournament, where Bank of America serves as a Champion Partner. The bank’s newest marketing campaign reimagines the sport’s most iconic Masters moments with Golf with Us members featuring:

  • Jack Nicklaus’ iconic putt for birdie on the 17th in 1986 to secure sole possession of the lead
  • Bubba Watson’s escape from the pine straw on the 10th enroute to a 2012 Masters victory
  • Rory McIlroy’s shot of a lifetime on the 15th hole and celebration on 18 after securing his long-awaited green jacket in 2025.

“I remember being a kid trying to copy everything the players I looked up to did, the swing, the mannerisms, all of it. The idea of a young kid recreating that shot on 15 really resonated with me,” said McIlroy. “Golf teaches powerful life lessons, how to compete, stay patient, and handle setbacks, and those lessons shape who you become. Opening access to the game is key to giving more kids that opportunity.”

Inspired by the campaign, McIlroy will donate $500,000 to Youth on Course, which will help fund 70,000 rounds for members in the months ahead.

While discounted tee times remain a core offering, Golf with Us benefits also include:

  • Expanded access for indoor play with $5 golf simulator rentals and a free lesson from a PGA Pro at any Golf Galaxy and DICK’s House of Sport location
  • Mentor-led golf experiences through a partnership with Watson Links
  • A registered handicap index in the United States Golf Association’s (USGA) Golf Handicap Information Network (GHIN) system
  • Complimentary access to GolfPass
  • Continued development and learning opportunities through the PGA of America REACH Foundation

Bank of America will host thousands of kids at free Golf with Us clinics across the country where golf legends and celebrities with a passion for golf serve as instructors, sharing fundamental golf skills and life lessons while helping children feel a sense of belonging within the sport.

Throughout the spring and summer, Bank of America will also host thousands of kids at free Golf with Us clinics across the country where golf legends and celebrities with a passion for golf serve as instructors, sharing fundamental golf skills and life lessons while helping children feel a sense of belonging within the sport. In 2025, more than 1,500 kids participated in these clinics across 25 markets alongside golf legend Annika Sorenstam, NFL Hall of Famer Terrell Davis, World Series Champions Ryan Zimmerman and Jackie Bradley, Jr., and former U.S. Men's National Team veteran Jozy Altidore, among dozens of others.

“Our partnership with Bank of America has been a gamechanger for Youth on Course, accelerating our mission and scaling our impact in communities across the country,” said Adam Heieck, chief executive officer, Youth on Course. “As Youth on Course proudly celebrates its 20th anniversary, Bank of America’s support has not only inspired tens of thousands of new young golfers but also expanded our network by adding over 100 municipal course locations and counting, ensuring that kids have safe, affordable places to play in their communities.”

Golf with Us is free and open to the first 150,000 new participants who enroll before June 15. Returning Golf with Us participants can renew their annual membership with an exclusive 20% discount offer, courtesy of Bank of America.
