The skyrocketing prices of memory chips, driven largely by the huge demand for AI, have now landed the big three DRAM makers in hot water.

Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, and Micron Technology (which together control nearly 95% of the global DRAM market) are facing a new class action lawsuit filed in California’s Northern District federal court. The suit accuses them of deliberately restricting production of key DRAM chips, even as demand from smartphones and PCs remains very strong.

According to the plaintiffs (which include individuals and small businesses), this artificial shortage has fueled what some are calling the “RAMpocalypse.” DRAM prices have shot up dramatically, in some cases by hundreds of percent, far more than what normal market forces would explain.

The impact is already being felt by everyday consumers. Apple recently raised prices on Macs, iPads, and other products, openly blaming surging memory and storage costs tied to the AI boom. Other PC and smartphone makers have also adjusted pricing or delayed launches.

The lawsuit, filed around June 25, 2026, claims the companies violated antitrust laws (specifically Section 1 of the Sherman Act) by shifting production capacity toward high-margin, high-bandwidth memory (HBM) for AI servers while holding back on standard DRAM. This isn’t the first time these companies have faced such allegations: they paid billions in fines in the 2000s after similar collusion investigations.

So far, Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron haven’t given detailed public responses to the new suit. In the past, they’ve denied any wrongdoing, saying their decisions on production and pricing are simply reactions to market conditions and the massive surge in AI demand.

The memory market is still under heavy pressure. Lenovo expects supply to remain tight well into 2027–2028 as data centers keep eating up chips, with new factories taking time to come online.

At the same event, Yu also shared that the wider open-source HarmonyOS ecosystem has now surpassed 1.3 billion devices. This includes not just phones and tablets, but also PCs, wearables, smart home devices, cars, and IoT products, showing how Huawei is pushing the OS across many different categories.

This growth is a big deal for Huawei. After facing US sanctions that cut off access to Google services, the company has been working hard to build its own independent software path. HarmonyOS has evolved a lot, especially with recent versions like HarmonyOS Next that moved away from Android compatibility toward a fully self-developed architecture. Xiaomi is finally jumping into the network-attached storage (NAS) market, and it looks like they want to make it much more accessible for regular people.

A crowdfunding campaign is already scheduled to run from July 1 to July 8 for the company’s first dedicated NAS device, called the Xiaomi Smart Storage. It’s positioned as an affordable, easy-to-use option for families, small offices, and anyone who wants more control over their photos, videos, and backups without relying entirely on the cloud.

The device has a clean, minimalist cube design with a grey finish. It’s a dual-bay model that supports both 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch SATA drives, giving users flexibility to mix and match storage.

According to a recent leak of an engineering sample, it’s powered by a Realtek RTD1619B quad-core ARM Cortex-A55 processor (up to 1.7 GHz), the same chip used in some entry-level Synology models. The sample comes with 2GB of DDR3L RAM and 8GB of storage for the operating system. It can reportedly handle up to 40TB total storage. While the prototype had a Gigabit Ethernet port, the final version is expected to include at least one 2.5GbE port, plus USB 3.0 and HDMI.

Xiaomi is offering three pre-configured bundles during the campaign (July 1–8):

• Beginner (4TB) — CNY 2,299 (~$338)
• Advanced (8TB) — CNY 2,899 (~$426)

These prices look like solid deals compared to normal retail.

The AI boom is bringing some unexpected side effects, and one of the world’s biggest PC makers just delivered a pretty sobering warning about it.

At the ISC 2026 conference in Germany, Lenovo dropped a reality check on the industry: the sharp rise in prices for essential memory components like DRAM and NAND flash might not be a temporary spike. According to them, these higher prices could become the “new normal” that sticks around well into 2030 and beyond.

The numbers Lenovo shared were striking. Prices surged dramatically from late Q3 into early Q4 2025, hitting levels almost no one saw coming. While the comment started with a bit of light-hearted tone, the message was serious: thanks to massive AI demand, we’re unlikely to go back to the cheaper memory prices we saw at the beginning of 2025.

The core problem is simple: demand is growing much faster than supply. Even though manufacturers are rushing to build new wafer fabs, it’s going to take years before that extra capacity makes a real dent. Lenovo isn’t alone in this view. Micron has already admitted that even its most important customers can’t get everything they need, and Samsung and SK Hynix have echoed similar concerns.

SK Hynix, a major player in high-bandwidth memory (HBM) for AI, is speeding up its expansion plans. The company now wants to nearly double its DRAM wafer capacity by 2030–2031 and triple overall production by around 2034. That’s faster than they originally planned, but many observers still wonder if it will be enough to keep up with the hunger for AI chips.

This shift has been great for memory makers’ profits, but it’s tightening supply for regular consumer-grade DRAM and NAND. That means higher costs are trickling down to everyday products: PCs, laptops, smartphones, SSDs, and cloud services.

For regular people and businesses, the takeaway is pretty clear: upgrading your computer or buying a new device could stay more expensive than we’ve been used to. Lenovo’s outlook suggests we’re moving away from the old boom-and-bust cycle of memory pricing into a new era where prices sit at a permanently higher baseline, all driven by AI.

Samsung is reportedly speeding up development of a rollable smartphone, aiming to create a device that smoothly expands from compact to almost tablet-sized whenever you need it.

According to a recent report from South Korean outlet Maeil Business, Samsung Display is pushing hard on this technology. Their goal is to launch the first real commercial rollable phone in the first half of 2028, possibly alongside or as part of the Galaxy S28 series. It’s expected to be called the Galaxy Z Slide. Rumors also suggest it could feature a big 10-inch 16:9 display with around 440 pixels per inch. There’s even talk of a second model coming in 2030.

This move makes a lot of sense for Samsung. While they still dominate foldables, their share of foldable display panels has dropped noticeably, from about 41.8% in Q4 2025 to 27% in Q1 2026, according to Omdia. With more competition heating up, a rollable phone could be their way to reclaim the innovation spotlight and raise the technical bar.

Rollable screens are much trickier than foldables. The biggest challenge is making the display “roll” reliably hundreds or thousands of times without getting wavy, creased, or uneven. Everything, including the rollers, the layers inside the screen, and the supporting structure, has to be incredibly precise while staying thin and light enough for everyday use.

Samsung has been experimenting with this for years. Back at CES 2023, they showed off the Flex Hybrid (which combined folding and sliding), and later that year at SID Display Week, they wowed people with the Rollable Flex prototype, stretching a tiny 49mm screen all the way out to over 254mm. That’s more than five times bigger. Impressive stuff.

If it works well, a rollable phone could be a game-changer: small enough to slip in your pocket, but capable of turning into a near-tablet experience for watching videos, multitasking, or getting real work done, and hopefully without the visible crease you get on current foldables.

If Samsung can deliver a premium feel that justifies the expected high price, this could be the next big evolution in smartphone design. It’ll be really interesting to watch how this develops. The Galaxy Z Slide (or whatever they end up calling it) has the potential to change how we think about phone screens.

HMD Global looks like it’s about to revive one of Nokia’s beloved old budget series, the Asha line. A new certification listing popped up on HMD’s own website for the “HMD TA-1779 (Type HMD Asha 305)”. The name alone suggests they’re bringing back that classic Asha vibe but updated for today’s world.

The original Nokia Asha 305 launched way back in July 2012. It was a basic touchscreen phone running Nokia’s lightweight S40 operating system (definitely not Android). With its tiny 3-inch 400×240 display, 2MP camera, almost nonexistent 32MB of RAM, and very limited storage, it was never going to blow anyone away on paper. But it was cheap, compact, had a removable battery, microSD support, and a headphone jack, exactly what a lot of people needed at the time.

This new HMD Asha 305 won’t be a straight re-release. The certification already hints at an LTE modem, meaning it’ll have proper 4G connectivity. So it’s shaping up to be a modern successor rather than a pure nostalgia trip.

If you want a good idea of what to expect, just look at the HMD Touch 4G that came out in late 2025. It’s a tiny 3.2-inch QVGA touchscreen phone powered by a Unisoc T127 chipset, with just 64MB RAM and 128MB internal storage (expandable via microSD). It runs a custom lightweight “Touch” operating system, has basic cameras (2MP rear with flash, VGA front), dual SIM, Bluetooth 5.0, USB-C, and a removable 1,950mAh battery. The whole thing weighs around 100g and feels incredibly pocketable. Battery life is reportedly excellent for light use, and it even has IP52 splash resistance.

The Asha 305 is expected to follow a very similar recipe: a simple, pocketable phone that lets you step away from constant smartphone distractions while still covering the basics like calling, texting, and light media use.

HMD has clearly found a sweet spot in this space lately. They’ve been successfully reviving old Nokia favorites (like the 3210) with 4G upgrades, and there’s real demand for these kinds of devices. Some people want a secondary phone, others are tired of smartphone overload. Certification progress suggests the “HMD Asha 305” shouldn’t be too far off.

Over the weekend, the TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo dropped some insights on X about Apple‘s 2027 plans, especially what we can expect from the more affordable models. According to Kuo, both the regular iPhone 18 and the rumored budget model (the iPhone 18e, expected sometime around March or April 2027) will come with 9GB of DRAM. That’s a modest bump up from the 8GB in the current iPhone 17 base models. The new setup reportedly uses six 1.5GB chips paired with Apple’s upcoming A20 chipset.

This is a bit less ambitious than earlier rumors that suggested a jump all the way to 12GB. That bigger increase was meant to enable more complex native AI processing on the device. Apparently, memory shortages and cost pressures led Apple to dial it back and prioritize stability instead.

On the chip side, the A20 is moving to TSMC’s advanced 2nm process. Rumors suggest it’ll bring about 15% better CPU performance and up to 30% improved power efficiency compared to the A19 series. That should mean snappier day-to-day use, better battery life, and a stronger neural engine for future AI features.

By comparison, the higher-end iPhone 18 Pro models and Apple’s first foldable (possibly called the iPhone Ultra) are sticking with a more premium configuration: 12GB of RAM and the beefier A20 Pro chip. These are still expected in the usual fall 2026 window, alongside each other.

Kuo’s track record is pretty solid, so this is worth paying attention to, even if things can still change before launch. Some people might be disappointed that the regular models aren’t getting full parity with the Pros on RAM, but this more modest upgrade should at least help Apple keep prices down for buyers who don’t need the absolute latest on-device AI capabilities.

The star of the show is that giant 7.5-inch 1.5K LCD display, one of the biggest you’ll find on a modern smartphone. It’s perfect for gaming, watching videos, or just multitasking. Nubia even designed it to work well as a handheld gaming device, complete with a portable grip option. On the outside, it rocks a dark green back with a soccer ball pattern that gives it a bold, sporty vibe.

Powering this large slab is MediaTek’s Dimensity 7100, a mid-range chipset used in phones like the Tecno Pova 8 and Pova Curve 2. There’s a 7000mAh battery on board, and it ships with Android 16. Gaming-focused extras like built-in capacitive touch shoulder triggers are included, staying true to the brand’s gamer-friendly DNA.

Nubia used the event to showcase the Neo 5 Max alongside some other cool stuff, including their Beanbag phone concept, Red Magic gaming phones, and a gaming tablet. The whole Neo 5 lineup (including the Neo 5 GT, which has an active cooling fan) is clearly aimed at younger gamers and Gen Z users who want fun, gaming-focused devices with physical gaming triggers and gaming-focused software features.

Launched today alongside some other Vivo devices, the TWS 5 Pro brings a serious focus on Hi-Fi audio in a lightweight, comfortable package. It’s got an independent Hi-Fi DAC chip, a hybrid driver setup with an 11mm dynamic driver, and support for up to 4.6Mbps Wi-Fi lossless audio transmission. That means richer details, better clarity, and less compression.

On top of that, you get spatial audio and adaptive sound that adjusts based on what you’re listening to and where you are. For calls, there are four microphones with Vivo’s “Deep Sea Intelligent Noise Cancellation 2.0”, promising up to 60dB noise reduction and clear voice pickup even in noisy environments.

Battery life looks really solid for the category. Each earbud weighs just 5.5g for comfortable all-day wear. With the charging case, you can get up to 50 hours of total playback time when using AAC codec with noise cancellation turned off. On a single charge, the earbuds deliver around 11 hours of music playback (AAC, ANC off), dropping to about 5 hours when using the higher-quality Wi-Fi lossless mode with ANC disabled.

A quick 5-minute charge in the case gives you roughly 2 extra hours of listening time. Of course, real-world results will vary depending on volume, whether you’re using noise cancellation, and which audio codec you choose.

Other handy features include Bluetooth 5.4 with multi-device pairing, a 42ms low-latency gaming mode, customizable EQ, DeepX 5.0 sound effects, and IP54 dust and water resistance.

They come in two clean colors: Original White and Silent Black. Pricing starts at 999 yuan (~ €129), with an early launch discount bringing it down to 949 yuan, pretty competitive for a flagship-style pair with these internals.

The dedicated Hi-Fi DAC is a nice upgrade for anyone chasing purer, higher-res sound, while the 60dB ANC keep it practical for commuting, calls, and travel.

Overall, if you’re after premium wireless earbuds that balance audiophile features with real-world usability, the TWS 5 Pro looks like a strong contender.

If you’ve been using (or eyeing) DJI’s Mic Mini 2, the Mic Mini 2S feels like the upgrade a lot of creators have been asking for. Set to launch officially on July 2 at 8 PM, the Mini 2S keeps everything people loved about the previous model, including its super-small size, stylish swappable magnetic covers in 10 different colors, solid transmission range, and easy-to-use voice presets. It now adds the one feature that was missing: onboard recording.

The new mic can record internally in high-resolution 24-bit/32-bit floating point, which gives you way more headroom and helps avoid nasty clipping when things get loud or unpredictable. With 14.5GB of built-in storage, you can safely capture hours of audio even if the wireless connection drops or your camera fails to record. It supports mono, stereo, and even quad-channel recording, so you can run up to four transmitters with one receiver.

The rest of the formula stays strong: up to 400 meters of range, two levels of AI noise reduction, three quick voice tone presets (Normal, Full/Rich, and Bright), and that ridiculously light 12g transmitter that basically disappears once it’s clipped on. The colorful magnetic covers are back too, so you can still match the mic to your outfit or production vibe.

DJI is launching it in four different kits to cover pretty much every use case, from a full camera and phone adapter bundle with a charging case to single-transmitter options and mobile-focused versions. Exact pricing hasn’t dropped yet, but early listings suggest it’ll sit in that premium-but-still-reasonable zone, probably a step above the Mic Mini 2.

This feels like DJI listening to feedback. The original Mini 2 looked great and performed well for its size, but a lot of solo creators and vloggers really wanted that safety net of internal recording. By pulling pro features from their bigger Mic 2 and Mic 3 systems into this tiny package, DJI has made something that should appeal strongly to mobile filmmakers, hybrid shooters, and anyone who needs reliable audio without the bulk.

In an interview with Nikkei Asia, Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon confirmed the company will bring its full range of data center products to Chinese customers. This includes the entire Dragonfly platform lineup: AI accelerators, data center CPUs, custom silicon, and connectivity solutions. Most notably, they’re planning to offer customized AI accelerators specifically tailored for China that fully comply with US export regulations.

Amon pointed out Qualcomm’s deep roots in the country, where smartphones have long made up a big chunk of its revenue. He sees the company’s established partnerships with Chinese phone makers and automotive firms as a major advantage that can now extend into data centers. “We have versions of all of our products that comply with those guidelines,” he said, adding that they’re already in active discussions with customers and are feeling optimistic about the response.

This move comes right after Qualcomm officially launched its data center chip lineup to take on AI workloads. One standout is the AI250 accelerator, which uses an innovative near-memory architecture (HBC) that could help get around some of the HBM memory shortages hitting the industry. The focus seems to be on serving inference tasks effectively while staying within regulatory limits.

Samsung might be getting ready to give its Galaxy Tab series a fresh new look that finally lines up better with its phones. Leaked animations from the upcoming One UI 9 software suggest future tablets could ditch the big notch in favor of a punch-hole camera cutout, which would mean a much more modern, immersive screen.

SamMobile spotted the clues while digging through the One UI 9 beta firmware. The rotating device animations show tablet-style devices with a centered punch-hole front camera. Interestingly, there are two versions: one with the cutout on the long edge and another on the shorter edge, just like how phones adapt when you rotate them. These animations weren’t in One UI 8.5 (which is based on Android 16), so they look like brand-new additions for One UI 9 and Android 17.

Right now, flagship models like the Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra and S10 Ultra still use a notch for the front camera. Switching to a punch-hole design would be a pretty big step forward for the Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra: it could let Samsung shrink the bezels even more and push the screen-to-body ratio closer to what we’ve come to expect from their smartphones.

Beyond the design tweak, One UI 9 is shaping up to bring a bunch of other improvements: better AI features, smoother animations, and tighter integration across the Galaxy ecosystem. The beta is already rolling out to various phones and tablets, so we’re getting early peeks at what Samsung has planned for late 2026 and beyond.

Apple CEO Tim Cook recently called the memory shortage a “hundred-year flood” in a Wall Street Journal interview. He explained that after years of absorbing these cost increases, the company simply can’t anymore. “Unfortunately, price increases are unavoidable,” he said.

This feels like a notable shift for Apple, which has historically tried to shield customers from supply chain fluctuations. The AI-driven demand for high-end chips has created real pressure across the industry, and it looks like we’re all starting to feel it.

The average increase across the affected products comes out to roughly $247. If you’ve been thinking about picking up any of these items, you might want to move sooner rather than later: there’s always a chance of further adjustments down the line.
