Glassboro (N.J.) three-star linebacker Tasheem Butler has committed to North Carolina, giving the Tar Heels their fourth pledge in the 2027 class.

Butler chose UNC over offers from Syracuse, Pittsburgh, Appalachian State, Akron and a host of other Group of Five offers. He recently picked up an offer from the Panthers, detailing his excitement about the program.

But the push from Bill Belichick and Co., who offered in early February, ultimately won out.

Butler was a huge part of his high school team winning the New Jersey state championship last season as he collected 140 tackles, 35 tackles for loss, eight sacks and five forced fumbles in 11 games.

Butler is the fourth commitment of the class for the Tar Heels, who came into the day with No. 28 class nationally in the Rivals Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.

He joins four-star Rolesville (N.C.) safety Marquis Bryant, three-star IMG Academy (Fla.) safety Chuck Roberts, and three-star Junipero Serra (Calif.) wideout Skylar Robinson as members of the Tar Heels’ 2027 crop thus far.

Notre Dame 2028 Recruiting: Where things stand with key Indiana playmaker Maddox Weil

Fort Wayne (Ind.) Northrop Rivals300 2028 receiver Maddox Weil visited Notre Dame on Friday.

The explosive in-state playmaker left South Bend with a scholarship in tow. He could see himself playing for the Irish down the road.

“What stands out to me is the culture there,” Weil said. “Everyone is very close together and you hear everyone talk about how it is just being at Notre Dame and all the opportunities you will have not just for football, but for life.

“What could make them a good fit is they are close to home and it’s a place where guys from Fort Wayne have gone there and have succeeded before.

“I would say it is higher up on my list.”

Other early offers for Weil include Michigan, Miami, Indiana and Purdue. Notre Dame checks a lot of boxes.

“Really just that they are just a historically good winning program that knows how to send guys to the league,” Weil said.

As a sophomore Weil turned 58 receptions into 968 yards and eight touchdowns. Earlier this year he had a strong showing at the Rivals camp in Miami.

“Maddox Weil came all the way from Fort Wayne, Indiana and showed he belonged with the top group of wide receivers at Rivals Camp Miami,” Director of Scouting Charles Power said. “He showed impressive movement skills within his routes, quickly exploding out of his breaks to create separation. Weil was strong during drills and showed steady, clean ball skills. The rising junior carried that momentum over to 1-on-1’s where he notched several wins.”

Notre Dame will be in position to win this recruitment all the way to the end.

Recruiting Intel: Rising edge rusher Uhila Wolfgramm locks in six official visits

Uhila Wolfgramm

Spanish Fork (Utah) Maple Mountain edge Uhila Wolfgramm had a strong showing at the recent Adidas Polynesian Bowl Combine and recently locked in six official visits.

Wolfgramm is an intriguing edge rusher with some inside/outside ability. He measured in at a rocked out 6-foot-3, 250 pounds, flashed a quick get-off and was able to physically overwhelm just about every tackle or guard he lined up against.

He had some solid testing metrics as well with a 2.75-20 yard dash time, 4.31 shuttle and 101” broad jump. He worked primarily out of a four-point stance as an edge and we could easily see him slide inside and play as a three-tech at the college level or a 3-4 edge.

He tested well with 2.75-20 yard dash time, 4.31 shuttle and 101” broad jump. He’s more than just a straight line guy, he showed some change of direction, heavy hands and as he continues to add more counters to his tool kit, his game will jump to another level.

On the recruiting front, Wolfgramm has an ambitious visit schedule set up for the Spring and is one of the few players we’ve seen with six official visits locked in.

“I have official visits set to Arizona State April 24, UCLA May 15, Boise State May 28, North Carolina June 5, Utah June 12 and BYU June 18,” Wolfgramm said. “I also plan to take unofficial visits to North Carolina and Texas A&M in the first week of April.

“In mid-April, I want to unofficially visit Arizona and Arizona State and also get to UCLA. Those are the schools that are recruiting me the hardest right now and all have offered outside of A&M and I’m talking with them every week.”

Wolfgramm said development will be the biggest factor in his college decision.

“Coming from New Zealand, I never played football before I got here,” Wolfgramm said. “I moved here in 8th grade and didn’t start playing football until my freshman year. Development is still new to me but with experience, I’m starting to pick it up and the game is slowing down for me.

“Getting a late start made me hungry to learn as much as I can. I want to go where I can continue to learn and be developed to see where it can take me. I also want to be somewhere that I can get an education when my playing days are done.

Colorado makes major move with WR Jaden Baldwin

Jaden Baldwin

With three official visits lined up for June, Chandler (Ariz.) Basha receiver Jaden Baldwin is using the next couple of weeks to take a couple of unofficial visits.

The first one took him to Colorado for an unofficial.

And the Buffs made a major move with Baldwin.

The Colorado coaching staff wowed Baldwin with their conversations.

“Versatility and being a Swiss Army knife really stood out to me,” said Baldwin. “If I go to Colorado, they want me to learn multiple positions and play right away, which meant a lot.”

An experienced coaching staff also resonated with Baldwin.

“I really liked the receiver coaches,” said Baldwin. “They have nearly 40 years of combined experience and coach (Brennan) Marion’s offense lets you showcase your athleticism.”

Seeing the practice brought a common feeling for him.

“I also liked how competitive their practices are,” said Baldwin. “It’s very similar to what we do at Basha.”

Baldwin said he felt like a priority the entire time.

“I can tell I’m really liked and wanted there, which stands out a lot,” said Baldwin.

And that has the Buffs in a great spot for him.

“They’re definitely one of my top schools right now,” said Baldwin. “We’ll see how everything plays out, but I was very pleased with my visit.”

Next up for Baldwin is an unofficial visit to Penn State on April 4.

Then in June, he’ll take three official visits, with a trip set to UNLV on June 5-7, a return to Boulder to visit Colorado officially on June 12-14 and then a trip the following week to Iowa State on June 19-21.

Ranking the top 5 Maine high school football stadiums

Obviously we’re not anywhere near high school football season right now, but plenty of people of dreaming for the moment toe hits leather once again this fall. As other sports take center stage all over the country, we’re going to begin a high school football stadium series and rank the Top 5 venues in every state. We continue with our rankings and head back to the New England region over in the Pine Tree State as Rivals ranks the Top 5 Maine high school football stadiums:

1. Boulos Stadium, Cheverus

There is something eye-catching to be said about this field. It sits at the bottom of the Cheverus High School’s campus with an impressive view of Back Cove and the Portland, Maine skyline. Without lights, games are held during an always-consistent 12:30 p.m. kickoff. Without bleachers, it is ‘Bring Your Own Chair’ or blanket seating for the game. With the action going from left to right or vice versa, the crowd will still get an eye-full of the visuals all game long. The school did undergo renovations this fall with artificial turf replacing the grass field, yet it is merely a minor cosmetic adjustment to one of the state’s finest sites.

2. Fitzpatrick Stadium, Portland

You can’t have a Top 5 list of the best stadiums/fields in Maine without including the place that is often referred to simply as “Fitzy”. As one of the state’s championship locations, this stadium has hosted plenty of Maine’s best recent football moments with a sideline walked upon by some of the state’s most legendary coaches. With Hadlock Field and the Portland Exposition Building on one side, the shaded hillside of Deering Avenue on the opposite side, and the always-present hum of traffic from Interstate 295 to go along with the crowd and sound system, it creates an atmosphere that is not duplicated anywhere when it comes to Maine high school football.

3. Warrior Memorial Field, Wells

After making the drive to Southern Maine, it is only a minute or two off Exit 19 on the Maine Turnpike to this gem of a field. Nestled into the woods of the school grounds is a step back in time to one of the state’s best quintessential small town football atmospheres that can be found in Maine. The red and white color for the Warriors team is all over on game day, the surrounding trees help to amplify the acoustics of the PA and a crowd, and the grass field just feels so right for it all. And on top of that, their Military Appreciation Night is one of the best presentations in the state of Maine.

4. Stadium Field, Bonny Eagle

Stadium Field has long been recognized as one of those locations in Maine that exude the vaunted Friday Night Lights atmosphere – that place where everybody in town can be found. Sure, ever place with lights can say they have Friday Night Lights atmosphere. But the noise and the fans around the field, the sights and the sounds, is something that people will tell you puts this place above anywhere else in Maine. And that feel, that vibe, leads to an atmosphere that makes the Scots one of the toughest teams to play on their ground (85-26 record at home). Unlike other peer opponents that have big grand stands or flashy lights or a perfectly crafted artificial turf surface, Bonny Eagle remains that tradition-rich locale that holds itself true to the vision of what Maine Friday night football is.

5. Charlie’s Field at Maxwell Complex, Winthrop

Even with an artificial turf makeover three years ago, this field keeps the same charm that has been a visual mainstay of Ramblers football for decades. Located a few miles from Winthrop High School on Town Hall Lane, fans park at the top of a hill that offers an amazing overlook of the field below. Fan can either watch from up top or they can make their way to small section of bleachers midway down the hill. Or they can go to ground level and its wrap-around fence for an up-close spot to the action. With woods surrounding one end zone and the opposite side of the field, Ramblers opponents have an uphill battle in more ways than one.
