Canada’s tourism industry is undergoing a significant transformation in 2025. While traditional markets like the United States, the United Kingdom, and France remain important, emerging source countries such as India, Mexico, and other parts of Latin America are showing increasing interest. In this article, we’ll explore the latest trends and data, examine the growing source markets for Canada, and uncover what’s driving this shift in tourism patterns.

The State of Canada’s Tourism in 2025: A Changing Global Landscape

The Canadian tourism sector has long been reliant on key international markets, but in 2025, a notable shift is taking place. While visitors from countries like the U.S. and the U.K. continue to contribute significantly to Canada’s tourism figures, there are clear signs of change. According to recent statistics, international visitation to Canada has declined by 10.9% year-on-year. The United States, Canada’s largest tourism market, has experienced a noticeable decrease in travel, raising questions about the future direction of Canada’s tourism strategy.

However, despite these challenges, Canada is beginning to see growth from newer and emerging markets, such as India, Mexico, and various parts of Europe. This diversification of source countries is a crucial part of Canada’s efforts to reshape its tourism industry and stay competitive in a rapidly changing global landscape.

The Dominant U.S. Market: A Source of Concern?

The United States has long been the most significant source of visitors to Canada. Historically, American tourists have accounted for the largest proportion of Canada’s inbound tourism, with millions crossing the border each year. However, recent trends indicate that the flow of U.S. tourists into Canada is slowing. In March 2025, for example, visits from U.S. residents dropped by 6.6% compared to March 2024. (Statistics Canada).

This decline is reflective of several factors. For one, stricter entry requirements and visa complexities have made cross-border travel more difficult. Additionally, the Canadian dollar’s exchange rate and growing competition from other international destinations have contributed to a downturn in U.S. arrivals. While the U.S. remains Canada’s top market, this decline suggests that the country’s tourism industry needs to explore new avenues to maintain growth and diversify its visitor base.

A Rising Power: India’s Growing Influence

One of the most exciting developments in Canada’s tourism scene in 2025 is the significant growth in visitor numbers from India. In May 2025, India ranked as the second-largest overseas source of visitors to Canada, with 61,300 arrivals. (Statistics Canada) This marks a dramatic rise for India, which has traditionally accounted for a modest portion of Canada’s tourism numbers.

The surge in tourism from India can be attributed to several factors. India’s rapidly growing middle class, coupled with a younger population eager to explore international destinations, has created a massive potential market for Canada. Moreover, the rise of affordable flights and more accessible visa processes have made Canada an increasingly attractive destination for Indian travellers. As Indian tourism continues to grow, Canada must focus on tailoring its offerings to meet the unique needs of this market, with customised travel packages and increased flight connectivity.

Europe: Still Valuable, But Slowing Down

European countries, particularly the United Kingdom, France, and Germany, have long been reliable sources of tourists for Canada. In May 2025, the U.K. maintained its position as the leading European market, with 78,400 visitors. France followed with 48,600 visitors, while Germany also contributed significantly to the numbers.

However, while these markets remain important, they are showing signs of slowing. In March 2025, Canada saw an 18.6% decrease in visitors from Europe compared to the previous year. (Statistics Canada) This decline suggests that European travellers are becoming more selective in their travel choices. While these countries remain important for Canada’s tourism industry, the growth potential from these markets appears limited in comparison to emerging markets like India and Mexico.

Canada must continue to build on its relationships with European countries, focusing on niche markets such as business tourism and cultural exchanges, to ensure steady visitation from this region.

Mexico and Latin America: The Hidden Gems

Mexico and other Latin American countries are becoming increasingly important for Canada’s tourism industry. In March 2025, Mexico showed a notable increase of 7.7% in the number of visitors compared to the previous year. (Statistics Canada) This increase highlights the growing potential of the Latin American market for Canada.

The burgeoning middle class in Latin America, along with greater flight connectivity between countries like Mexico and Canada, is driving this growth. As the demand for international travel increases in countries like Mexico, Canada stands to benefit by enhancing its marketing efforts in the region. Latin American travellers are also attracted to Canada’s natural beauty, vibrant cities, and cultural diversity. However, Canada must be mindful of fluctuating visa regulations and air travel accessibility in the region to ensure continued growth.

Asia: The Long Road to Recovery

While Asia represents a massive growth opportunity for Canada, the region’s recovery in terms of inbound tourism has been slower than expected. In May 2025, Canada saw a decrease of 11.3% in the number of visitors from Asia compared to the same period in the previous year. (Statistics Canada)

Several factors contribute to Asia’s slower recovery. High travel costs, complex visa procedures, and competition from other popular destinations like the United States and Australia are hindering growth from Asia. While Canada still holds significant potential in countries like China, Japan, and South Korea, it must invest in improving air connectivity, simplifying visa processes, and developing targeted marketing campaigns to appeal to Asian travellers.

Which Countries Are New to Canada’s Tourism Radar in 2025?

While there haven’t been any entirely new countries sending tourists to Canada in 2025, several countries have shown significant growth. India, for example, has climbed to second place among Canada’s overseas markets, surpassing traditional European countries. Likewise, Mexico and several other Latin American countries are showing increasing interest in Canada, making them key emerging markets.

For Canada’s tourism industry, this represents an opportunity to diversify its sources of inbound tourism. By focusing on markets like India, Mexico, and other Latin American countries, Canada can create a more resilient tourism sector that is less dependent on traditional markets. Additionally, by continuing to cater to high-growth markets, Canada can ensure a steady stream of international visitors in the years to come.

Strategic Implications for Canada’s Tourism Industry

In response to these emerging trends, Canada’s tourism industry must embrace several strategic imperatives:

  1. Diversify Away from U.S. Dependence: With U.S. arrivals declining, Canada must reduce its reliance on this market. While still vital, the U.S. cannot be the sole focus for Canada’s tourism growth.
  2. Focus on High-Growth Markets: India, Mexico, and other Latin American countries present substantial opportunities. Canada should prioritise marketing and product offerings tailored to these regions to capitalise on their growing outbound tourism.
  3. Europe’s Steady Contributions: While Europe remains an essential source market, the growth potential is slower. Canada must focus on niche markets such as business travel, luxury tourism, and cultural exchanges to maintain European interest.
  4. Invest in Asia: Asia still holds enormous potential for Canada’s tourism, but recovery is slow. Canada must invest in improving connectivity, visa facilitation, and marketing efforts to appeal to Asian travellers.
  5. Target Emerging Markets: Mexico, India, and other rapidly growing markets must be at the forefront of Canada’s tourism strategy in 2025 and beyond. By capitalising on these markets, Canada can ensure a more diverse and resilient tourism base.

Conclusion: A New Era for Canada’s Tourism Industry

Canada’s tourism industry is at a crossroads in 2025. While traditional markets like the United States and Europe remain important, new opportunities are emerging in countries such as India, Mexico, and other parts of Latin America. These regions represent high-growth markets that can drive Canada’s tourism recovery and long-term growth.

For Canada to remain competitive, it must shift its focus towards these emerging markets, invest in tailored marketing strategies, and ensure ease of access for international visitors. The changing dynamics of global travel present both a challenge and an opportunity. With the right strategy, Canada’s tourism sector can thrive in this new era of global travel.

Top-25 recruit Austin Goosby down to 4 schools, sets commitment date

Austin Goosby. (On3)

Austin Goosby, one of the top wings in the 2026 class, has trimmed his list to four schools, he told Rivals. The 6-foot-5 small forward will move forward with Baylor, BYU, Duke, and Texas as his finalists. He’s also locked in his commitment date for November 14.

Goosby, a high-four-star prospect, has taken official visits to each of his finalists.

Prior to cutting his list down, Goosby also considered SMU, Miami, and others.

He is the No. 23 overall player in the 2026 class, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking.

Goosby talks about his game + what he’s looking for in a school

In a previous interview with Rivals, Austin Goosby discussed his game.

“I’m an overall scorer. I can facilitate, create for other players, and I like getting my teammates involved. I’m talking more on the court, getting my teammates where they need to be, just communicating in general.”

He also knows what he wants in a future college program.

“I’ll be looking for a school that communicates well. Someone who reaches out a lot and keeps me involved. Just a school that is like a family, where I have a relationship with, and I can trust the coaches.”

The elite wing a standout at a pair of events

According to Rivals’ Jamie Shaw, Goosby was one of the top performers at EYBL Memphis in May:

Austin Goosby (Drive Nation) brings a lot of tools to the table, with his projectable frame and intriguing length. The 6-foot-5 four-star’s best game was on Saturday when he finished with 23 points and 10 rebounds. While he finished 3-13 from three on the weekend, he showed intriguing passing chops, moving the ball around when it was in his hands. He averaged 16.3 points and 5.0 assists through the weekend.

He was also a standout at the NBPA Top-100 Camp in Rock Hill, SC, over the summer:

Austin Goosby is one who consistently shows impressive flashes, both scoring and distributing the ball. He has solid size and can toggle between on or off ball roles. He also tends to drift in and out of production throughout the course of games. He has a smooth jump shot, finishing with 10 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists in his second game today.

Top uncommitted 2026 QBs with National Signing Day less than a month away

December has become the biggest month of the recruiting cycle with the Early Signing Period becoming the de-facto National Signing Day. Dec. 3 is the date for the 2026 class.

A wicked in-season coaching carousel and some big high school campaigns has seen a slew of decommitments and flips this fall. There are still a few prominent quarterbacks that remain uncommitted with NSD less than a month away.

Of the top 100 QBs in the 2026 cycle — according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all major recruiting media companies — nine are uncommitted. That includes a pair of four-stars.

Below are those nine uncommitted signal-callers, where they rank and who’s in the mix for their pledge down the stretch:

Tradon Bessinger

School: Davis (Utah)
Rivals Industry Ranking: No. 233 NATL. (No. 16 QB)
About: Putting together one of the most impressive seasons in Utah high school football history, Bessinger really blossomed as a recruit this fall. He was committed to Boise State for over five months, but backed off that pledge last month after taking an official visit to Iowa. Bessinger will also take an official visit to BYU next weekend. He’s now the most coveted arm on the market.

Troy Huhn

School:Mission Hills (Calif.)
Rivals Industry Ranking: No. 242 NATL. (No. 19 QB)
About: Huhn was committed to Penn State for over 15 months, but was one of the many to come back on the board after the Nittany Lions fired head coach James Franklin. The four-star is keeping a close eye on where Franklin lands for his next gig, while Stanford is a program that’s working to keep Huhn in-state at the next level.

Jayvon Gilmore

School:Ridge View (S.C.)
Rivals Industry Ranking: No. 470 NATL. (No. 29 QB)
About: Gilmore was committed to Arkansas for over a year, but he decommitted in September and has kept a quiet recruitment since. He began the year at Gaffney High, but withdrew from the school right around the time he decommitted from the Razorbacks. Gilmore reportedly enrolled at Ridge View but has not posted any stats or highlights this fall. North Carolina, Georgia Tech and Arizona are among the schools that have previously offered Gilmore.

Kaneal Sweetwyne

School:Skyridge (Utah)
Rivals Industry Ranking: No. 872 NATL. (No. 52 QB)
About: Sweetwyne was committed to in-state BYU early on but he came back on the board ahead of his senior season. Playing for one of the top programs in the Beehive State, Sweetwyne has been focused on his final year at Skyridge. Utah has been in the mix for his pledge while NC State also emerged this fall.

Nelson Peterson

School:Forney (Texas)
Rivals Industry Ranking: No. 1,012 NATL. (No. 62 QB)
About: The 6-foot-3, 200-pound gunslinger is still on the board late in the cycle while playing for a top-25 team in the Lone Star State. Peterson has notched offers from Texas Tech, UTEP, Sacramento State, Wake Forest, Utah State and UTSA. The Red Raiders had him in Lubbock for an official visit this summer, but Peterson’s recruitment has been quiet since.

John Johnson

School:Edna Karr (La.)
Rivals Industry Ranking: No. 1,182 NATL. (No. 70 QB)
About: Leading the way for the top-ranked team in Louisiana and one of the most notable high school programs in the South, “Hollywood” Johnson is a former Liberty commit. The 6-foot senior just decommitted from the Flames on Wednesday. Washington State is the latest to offer, doing so last month.

Ziondre Williams

School:Anna (Texas)
Rivals Industry Ranking: No. 1,214 NATL. (No. 77 QB)
About: An impressive dual-threat weapon, Williams led Anna to a 7-3 regular season. He’s also performed well on the summer 7v7 circuit in the past. He has offers from UTSA, Southern Miss, UTEP, Missouri State and others.

Grant Smith

School:Grand Oaks (Texas)
Rivals Industry Ranking: No. 1,554 NATL. (No. 95 QB)
About: Smith is a four-year starter at the high school level and has quarterbacked Grand Oaks to six wins so far this fall. He threw for over 2,000 yards as a junior. He has garnered Power Four interest and was trending toward Kansas State this summer. Baylor, Texas A&M, Texas Tech and Arkansas are among his other reported offers.

Romin Seymour

School:Ridge Point (Texas)
Rivals Industry Ranking: No. 1,566 NATL. (No. 97 QB)
About: Transferring to Ridge Point for his senior campaign, Seymour is amidst an undefeated season as the Panthers gear up for the playoffs at 10-0. The 6-foot-5 QB has great size, has been impressive on Friday nights in the Lone Star State and currently holds offers from Baylor, Colorado, Mizzou and others.

National High School Football Predictions: Nov. 6-Nov. 8

Hamilton Huskies Roye Oliver III (3) runs with the ball against the Basha Bears during a game at Basha High School in Chandler on Oct. 24, 2025.

Earlier this week, we shared game predictions based on the Massey Ratings for the biggest high school football games of the weekend. Today, Rivals national high school sports reporter Andy Villamarzo makes his picks:

Summer Creek (TX) at North Shore (TX)

When: Friday, Nov. 7, 8 p.m. ET
Where: Turner Stadium, Houston, Texas

The best game down in Texas takes place when Summer Creek (8-1) faces off against North Shore (8-1) in a massive Lone Star State tilt. Both offenses have been sizzling this season, with Summer Creek is averaging a cool 53.7 points per game and North Shore at 52 a tilt. One of the defenses will need to make a play, but we have little doubts that this game won’t just turn into an offensive explosion between the two high-scoring offenses.

Prediction: North Shore 49, Summer Creek 48

Hoover (Ala.) at Phenix City Central (Ala.)

When: Friday, Nov. 7 at 8 p.m. ET
Where: Garrett–Harrison Stadium, Phenix City, Ala.

The Alabama Class 7A playoffs feature a bundle of really good first round games and this one is easily one of them when Hoover Buccaneers head over to Phenix City to take on the Central Red Devils (9-1). Hoover (6-4) has seen its offense be an up-and-down unit, but the Bucs own an impressive victory over Thompson during the regular season. The only loss Phenix City Central has had all season long came against No. 1 nationally ranked IMG Academy. We’ve got to ride with the home team on this one.

Prediction: Phenix City Central 40, Hoover 35

Bryant (AR) at Conway (AR)

When: Friday, Nov. 7, 8 p.m. ET
Where: Centennial Bank Field at John McConnell Stadium, Conway, Arkansas

Arkansas high school football doesn’t get the limelight much, but when they do, it usually involves the Bryant Hornets (9-0). Bryant makes their way over to face Conway Wampus Cats (8-1) for the regular season finale in what should be one of the best games in the Mineral State. The Hornets most challenging game was a 31-14 win over Newton of Georgia. Conway certainly has the talent to compete, but at the end of the day, there’s a reason why Bryant continues to own the state of Arkansas annually.

Prediction: Bryant 49, Conway 28

St. Augustine (La.) at John Curtis (La.)

When: Friday, Nov. 7, 8 p.m. ET
Where: Shrine on Airline, Metairie, La.

St. Augustine (8-1) meeting John Curtis (7-1) has to be like the Spiderman meme with both teams pointing at each because of their recent losses to Edna Karr. The Purple Knights have a potent offense that trots out a couple Division I prospects at wide receiver in junior four-star Miguel Whitley (35 catches, 655 yards) and three-star Ray’Quan Williams (26 catches, 562 yards). Though the Patriots are plenty capable of scoring the football themselves, we just think St. Augustine is going to be too much at the end of the day.

Prediction: St. Augustine 28, John Curtis 20

Vestavia Hills (Ala.) at Auburn (Ala.)

When: Friday, Nov. 7 at 8 p.m. ET
Where: Duck Samford Stadium, Auburn, Ala.

Another AHSAA Class 7A high school football playoff game in the Yellowhammer State this week that should be plenty good is when Auburn (8-2) and Vestavia Hills (8-2) clash. Both teams have impressed throughout the season, with each going into the playoffs on winning streaks. The Tigers are riding a three-game streak and the Rebels on a five-game winning streak. Vestavia Hills defeated Auburn earlier in the season, 42-14.

Prediction: Vestavia Hills 30, Auburn 24

American Fork (Utah) at Skyridge (Utah)

When: Friday, Nov. 7, 9 p.m. ET
Where: The Nest, Lehi, Utah

This UHSAA Class 6A quarterfinal matchup between Skyridge (9-2) and American Fork (7-4) is a rematch from the regular season, with the victory going to the former, 26-14. Both teams have contrasting styles of play as Skyridge looks to throw the ball more through the air and American Fork looks to keep the ball on the ground. The Falcons are on a mission to reach the 6A state championship and they get over a hurdle here on Friday night against the Cavemen.

Prediction: Skyridge 35, American Fork 17

Hamilton (Ariz.) at Chandler (Ariz.)

When: Friday, Nov. 7, 10 p.m. ET
Where: Austin Field, Chandler, Arizona

Hamilton (9-0) has looked nearly unstoppable offensively by one of the top Class of 2028 wide receivers in four-star talent Roye Oliver, who has hauled in 62 passes for 1,400 yards and 25 touchdowns. Chandler (8-1) lost their only game back in Week 2 of the season against Cathedral Catholic, but has reeled off seven straight victories. This Arizona regular season finale is easily the best game on the docket down in the Grand Canyon State.

Prediction: Hamilton 52, Chandler 28

St. Thomas More (Conn.) at Hun School (N.J.)

When: Saturday, Nov. 8, 1 p.m. ET
Where: The Hun School Athletic Complex, Princeton, N.J.

Hun School (7-3) and St. Thomas More (1-2) are both a couple of the best teams in their respective states. When looking at the last time the Chancellors played was back on Oct. 24 and it’s only the fourth time they’ve played this season against a Raiders group that just lost to IMG Academy last week, 31-13. St. Thomas More will look to 2026 four-star EDGE Alhassan Iddrissu to get after Hun School three-star quarterback Lukas Prock and create havoc.

Prediction: Hun School 31, St. Thomas More 14

St. John’s College (D.C.) at Gonzaga (D.C.)

When: Saturday, Nov. 8, 2 p.m. ET
Where: Buchanan Field, Washington, District of Columbia

One of the country’s most unique stadiums in Buchanan Field well play host in the nation’s capital between St. John’s College (6-3) and Gonzaga (5-4). The Cadets are coming off a 28-7 win over Bishop McNamara and look to make it consecutive wins since losing to DeMatha Catholic, 23-20, back on Oct. 24. The Eagles’ defense is loaded on the defensive line, led by Michigan commit Carter Meadows and Penn State commitment Tyson Harley. If last year’s meeting tells us anything, this will be a defensive slugfest between the D.C. powers.

Prediction: Gonzaga 16, St. John’s College 14

Kahuku (Hawaii) vs. Kapolei (Hawaii)

When: Saturday, Nov. 8, 10 p.m. PT
Where: John Kauinana Stadium, Mililani, Hawaii

The first-ever Oahu Interscholastic Association (OIA) Open Division title game will feature Kahuku (7-3) against Kapolei (7-4). Kahuku is one of Hawaii’s most winningest high school football programs as they started off with a 20-0 loss to St. Louis, but ended up winning seven of their next nine games. Only other two losses for the Red Raiders came against nationally ranked Bishop Gorman (Nev.) and Mater Dei (Calif.) as they’ve defeated all other Hawaii-based opponents, including Kapolei in a 21-7 decision. We give the Raiders the edge in this one as they come away with Hawaii’s first Open Division title.

Prediction: Kahuku 25, Kapolei 16

Texas loses a commitment from 4-star DL Dylan Berymon

Dylan Berymon (Photo by Chad Simmons/On3)

One month away until National Signing Day, one of the top defensive linemen in the 2026 classes has reopened his recruitment.

Four-star DL Dylan Berymon backed off his commitment to the Texas Longhorns on Wednesday, he tells Rivals.

Berymon committed to Texas in June.

USC and Mississippi State were finalists for Berymon prior to his commitment to the Longhorns over the summer. LSU, Ole Miss and Texas A&M were other SEC programs squarely in the mix with the Louisiana prospect during stretches of his recruitment.

The Rivals Industry Ranking No. 23 DL out of Monroe (La.) Ouachita Parish has made a string of visits back to the Forty Acres and also Ole Miss this fall. Berymon has made a pair of game-day visits to Oxford, most recently to catch the Rebels against LSU.

Berymon is tabbed as the No. 216 overall prospect in the 2026 class, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is the No. 8 player from The Boot in this cycle.

Michigan Football: Wolverines poised for another top-10 recruiting class

Michigan Football

Michigan has proven a lot of naysayers wrong on the field thus far, jumping out to a 7-2 start and a No. 21 ranking in the College Football Playoff Top 25. What was looked at by many as a rebuilding year has been anything but for Sherrone Moore and Co., who are in position to improve on last year’s 8-5 mark.

The Wolverines have also maintained the momentum on the recruiting trail they closed out the 2025 cycle with. After signing a pair of five-stars in last year’s cycle, they have two committed again. Running back Savion Hiter and EDGE Carter Meadows are ranked by Rivals as the No. 1 players at their respective positions.

And in total, the Wolverines have 22 commitments and 15 blue-chip pledges in total. They’ve loaded up at wide receiver and tight end (five total commits), as well as on the defensive line (six). But Rivals’ Greg Smith reports they’re not done just yet.

“It’s a major storyline down the stretch run to National Signing Day that Michigan is being very aggressive trying to flip players,” Smith wrote on Wednesday. “Those efforts seem to be focused on two positions: linebacker and defensive back.”

Michigan has eyes on a couple of blue-chip cornerbacks committed to other schools, and the Wolverines are also trending to flip a Big Ten rival’s top linebacker commit, too. With the coaching carousel just beginning to get going, don’t count out a few more late offers as they look to beef up their class.

Moore and Co. hold the nation’s No. 10 class in the Rivals Industry Rankings, but they’re within striking distance of a few teams in front of them, including rival Ohio State.

News4Jax reported on Tuesday afternoon that the Fernandina Beach Police Department now has an arrest warrant for a Bell High School player who struck a Fernandina Beach High School player at the end of a play on Friday night.

Video captured two players getting into a shoving match away from a play in the first round of the SSAA Atlantic State Championship. The Bell player got ahold of the Fernandina Beach player’s face mask. As the Fernandina Beach player began to pull away, his helmet came off. The Bell player then swung the helmet and struck the Fernandina Beach player in the face, sending him down to the ground:

The Bell player tossed the helmet after connecting and walked away as other Fernandina Beach players and coaches rushed onto the field. According to the report, there were multiple scuffles that ensued both on and off the field.

There were a pair of Fernandina Beach officers working at the game who helped gain control of the situation, per the report. Fernandina Beach PD then escorted the Bell bus and players off Amelia Island. On Monday, the Nassau County School District issued a statement praising how the Fernandina Beach team handled the situation:

“The incident at the conclusion of last Friday night’s football game between Fernandina Beach High School and Bell Middle/Senior High School, involving a Bell player pulling a FBHS player’s helmet off and striking him in the head with the helmet, has been reported to the Sunshine State Athletic Conference for investigation,“ the statement said.

“Bell Middle/Senior High School administration is aware of the incident and appropriate disciplinary consequences will be administered. The safety of our student athletes and proper sportsmanship are top priorities for all athletic programs at Fernandina Beach High School. We are proud of how our players, coaches, staff members, parents and fans represent the Pirate community. They are all to be commended for their response to what could have escalated into something much worse.”

Fernandina Beach won the game 48-21, moving on to the quarterfinals of the state tournament. The Pirates are scheduled to play Paxon School for Advanced Studies this Friday, Nov. 7.
