Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate has been linked with a move away from the club at the end of the season.

The report claims that Liverpool have reached a broad agreement with the player and his representatives over a new long-term contract. The 26-year-old has been linked with clubs like Real Madrid in recent months, but it seems that Liverpool has now made a breakthrough in their efforts to keep him at the club for the long term.
Barcelona and Bayern Munich were also monitoring his situation.
Konate has had a mediocre season so far, but he is a quality player who has consistently shown his ability in the Premier League. He is certainly one of the best defenders in the league when he is on form. Keeping him at the club will prove to be a wise decision for Liverpool.

The France international is coming towards the end of his current deal, making him a free agent this summer, which has led to plenty of speculation over his future in recent months.
However, it now looks like things are heading in a more positive direction, according to L’Equipe, who report that Konate has never been closer to staying at LFC than he looks now.
This follows Fabrizio Romano reporting for us last week that talks were ongoing over a new contract for Konate, who is open to staying at Anfield.
With Virgil van Dijk looking past his best at times this season, it’s surely vital for Liverpool to keep Konate as a key figure in their defence.
If the 26-year-old were to leave this summer, it would likely mean the Reds would have to enter the market for two new central defenders.
There are increasingly positive noises about Konate’s future now, though, with the Athletic also reporting that an Anfield stay could be the most likely outcome now.
Speaking to CaughtOffside last week, Romano told us: “Liverpool remain in active conversations with Ibrahima Konate and his camp over a new contract,” Romano said.
“There are discussions ongoing with the French defender. At the moment there’s still nothing done or agreed, but the conversations are still underway.”
He added: “Let’s see if they can find a financial agreement … The player is open to continuing at Liverpool, but obviously it’s an important contract for his career.”
Romano also mentioned that Real Madrid had cooled their interest in Konate.

From Real Madrid at the moment, what I can say is that Real Madrid, a few months ago, before Christmas, informed Liverpool that they were not advancing on a deal to sign Ibrahima Konate.
But Real Madrid keep following centre-backs on the market because David Alaba is expected to leave the club in the summer, and so they could add one more at centre-back position.

At the moment, with Konate there is nothing advanced with Real Madrid, nothing really concrete into it. With Liverpool, the conversation is continuing and let’s see if they can find a financial agreement.
The player is open to continuing at Liverpool, but obviously it’s an important contract for his career, and so the conversation is going to continue with new contacts expected this month in April to take a final decision as soon as possible on the future of Ibrahima Konate regarding a potential move or a new contract.
