Instead, it was a purely tactical move designed to bring on defender Leny Yoro and lock down the crucial three points.
“To be honest, it was just a minute or so to go and [we wanted] to get Leny on the pitch,” said Carrick, as reported by Manchester Evening News.
“Obviously Joshua came on, Paddy came on and Amad came on as well and there was nothing behind that apart from that.”

Interim boss Carrick has brilliantly steadied the ship and successfully guided the club back into Europe’s elite competition.
With their captain fully committed to the cause and their top-tier status restored, the Red Devils can finally start dreaming of huge European nights under the Old Trafford lights once again.
As for Fernandes, he would be hoping to get the maximum minutes in the remaining matches as he looks to break the assist record in a single Premier League season.
The Portuguese midfielder has 19 assists this season so far and he just needs two more to move ahead of Arsenal legend Thierry Henry and Manchester City icon Kevin De Bruyne to get the most assists in a single season.
Man United will play Sunderland, Nottingham Forest and Brighton in their final three matches of the season.
