Samsung’s new AI notification system in One UI 8.5 has a surprising limitation
A new leak reveals the languages supported by Samsung’s new AI notification system in One UI 8.5. The company is also preparing an AI-powered scam-detection feature for Galaxy phones, which could be limited initially.
The leak revealed that the AI-powered notification system will take the notification history of the past 24 hours into account to generate summaries. There’s a high possibility of this feature processing data on-device, not cloud.
While on-device processing sounds like a major privacy boost, it might render older Galaxy phones ineligible for new AI notification features. The system may require modern hardware and a chipset to generate summaries offline.
We have seen how Samsung skipped the expansion of the Now Brief feature on devices older than the Galaxy S24 series. The notification summaries might meet the same fate and remain exclusive to recent flagships, initially.
In addition, AndroidAuthority discovered the supported languages of Samsung’s new AI notification system in One UI 8.5. The list is decent, as for now, but there’s a sign of potential limitation for a portion of users.
Supported languages:
- English
- French
- German
- Hindi
- Italian
- Japanese
- Korean
- Polish
- Portuguese
- Spanish
- Simplified Chinese (Mainland China)
- Thai
- Vietnamese
A portion of users might have limited functionality of AI notifications. The system may work on the device language, so if you are multilingual, the experience might not be up to the mark, and there’s room for improvement.
Samsung has already rolled out an AI-powered scam call detection feature in Korea. The One UI 8.5 also includes related codes, while there’s no sign of a worldwide release. However, it might expand to the global market later on.
