Prime Video, networks could target major NFL stars in broadcasting shakeup

Super Bowl 61 will mark an interesting point in sports media as various networks start eyeing NFL stars to fill broadcasting roles for the 2027 season.

While the 2026 NFL season is still a ways away from kicking off, franchises are already preparing as the NFL Draft approaches in under two months.

However, networks are closely watching major figures at the professional level as they look to ramp up their coverage. The Athletic is even reporting that two NFL stars, in particular, are at the top of network’s lists.

The Athletic’s Andrew Marchand recently revealed that free agents like Kirk Herbstreit, Greg Olsen and J.J. Watt will surely be in the conversation for a shakeup at their respective networks.

However, Travis Kelce and Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay are two NFL stars to watch closely. Both football figures have been involved in broadcasting in some capacity and could draw huge contracts.

Herbstreit is currently in a unique position covering college football and NFL games with ESPN and Prime Video. Meanwhile, Olsen and Watt have become huge stars at CBS and Fox, respectively, in recent years.

Networks will surely line up though for the potential of luring Kelce to their NFL coverage, especially after Jason Kelce’s success at ESPN. The Kelce brothers are also huge names in the sports media world since the massive growth of their New Heights podcast.

The younger Kelce, travis, also draws massive appeal given his relationship with pop star Taylor Swift. The celebrity couple are scheduled to get married on June 13 prior to the 2026 NFL season kicking off.
