Watch: Salah ends longest-ever Premier League goal drought with brilliant trivela finish but Liverpool lose 2-1 to Wolves

4 March 2026 at 02:25

Mohamed Salah finally found the back of the net to end his longest-ever goal drought, but his strike was not enough to save Liverpool from a crushing 2-1 defeat at the hands of Wolves.

In a dramatic late flurry at Molineux, the bottom-of-the-table hosts secured a massive three points that could ignite their fight for Premier League survival.

After what Stephen Warnock described as a “boring” first half, the match exploded into life in the final fifteen minutes.

Wolves broke the deadlock in the 78th minute through Rodrigo Gomes, who finished a brilliant counter-attack by lifting the ball over Alisson Becker following a precise through-ball from Tolu Arokodare.

However, the lead lasted just five minutes. Jean-Ricner Bellegarde played a misplaced pass straight into the path of Mo Salah.

The Egyptian king clinicaly pounced on the error, driving into space and curling a signature finish with the outside of his boot to level the score.

Salah ends longest-ever Premier League goal drought

The goal marked a massive personal milestone for Salah, as it brought an end to the most barren run of his illustrious Liverpool career.

Before tonight, Salah had failed to score in nine consecutive Premier League appearances, the longest drought since he joined the club in 2017.

His last league goal had come nearly four months ago in a 2-0 victory over Aston Villa in November 2025.

Despite his overall contribution of 16 goal involvements across all competitions this season, his lack of domestic goals had become a major talking point.

Liverpool fans will hope this clinical finish signals a return to form for their talisman.

Wolves score stoppage-time winner

The drama was far from over, however. In the 94th minute, Wolves midfielder Andre tried his luck from distance, and his shot took a wicked deflection off Joe Gomez, wrong-footing Alisson and trickling into the net to spark wild celebrations in the South Bank.

The result is a devastating blow for Liverpool’s top-four ambitions, leaving them trailing fourth-place Manchester United by three points.

Conversely, for Rob Edwards’ Wolves, it is a second consecutive  victory following their win over Villa on Friday.

While they remain in the relegation zone, the two wins will give them a massive boost as we enter the final stretch of the season.

Watch: Virgil van Dijk bullied off by Tolu Arokodare as Wolves shock Liverpool with late goal

4 March 2026 at 02:05

Liverpool have been shell shocked by Wolves who have scored against the run of play.

Rodrigo Gomes is the man who has put Wolves ahead with a brilliant lobbed finish over Alisson Becker.

But Virgil van Dijk will not be happy with his defending leading to the goal.

The ball is hoofed towards Tolu Arokodare who is marked by the big Dutchman. But Arokodare rather easily nudged Van Dijk away before sending Gomes through on goal, with Konate chasing him.

The Portuguese did really well to beat Konate with speed before finish with his right foot with a delicate finish.

‘Difficult to watch’: Liverpool’s first half performance vs Wolves brutally slammed by former Red

4 March 2026 at 01:23

Liverpool’s first-half performance against Wolves has been brutally slammed by former Reds defender Stephen Warnock, who described the display as “slow and boring” during a scathing live assessment.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live at Molineux, Warnock did not hold back as the two sides headed into the interval with the scoreline deadlocked at 0-0.

While he was quick to praise the tactical setup of Rob Edwards’ Wolves side, his criticism for Arne Slot’s men was relentless.

“I just hope the half-time pies are good because that has been difficult to watch,” Warnock said.

“That has been really good from a Wolves point of view, the organization and how to make Liverpool’s lives difficult.

“But from a Liverpool point of view, so slow, so boring to watch, and that has been a tough watch. Hopefully, it will be a big improvement in the second half.”

Zero big chances created by Liverpool in a poor first half

The statistics from the opening 45 minutes paint a grim picture for the title contenders.

Despite dominating 68% of the possession, Liverpool struggled to penetrate a disciplined Wolves backline.

The Reds went into the break having created zero big chances, managing just two speculative shots on target. Perhaps most damning was the expected goals (xG) of just 0.21.

While Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo were largely anonymous, the lack of service from a midfield missing the creative spark of the injured Florian Wirtz was evident.

Wolves, currently sitting bottom of the table have dominated possession.

Dominik Szoboszlai’s new Hugo Ekitike inspired hairstyle

The 25-year-old appears to have taken a leaf out of the book of teammate Hugo Ekitike.

Moving away from his usual long hair style, Szoboszlai has opted for a cornrows, similar to what his French teammate often pulls off.

While the ‘new hair, new me’ mantra is often a cliche in football, Szoboszlai enters the Wolves fixture with the confidence of a player currently at the absolute peak of his powers.

Szoboszlai has been Liverpool’s best player this season

While his off-pitch style is making headlines, it is Szoboszlai’s on-pitch dominance that has defined Liverpool’s 2025/26 campaign.

The midfielder has been the club’s standout performer, serving as the relentless engine in Arne Slot’s high-pressing system.

He has also become the club’s expert set-piece taker, having scored four free-kicks so far across all competitions.

The statistics certainly support the “Player of the Season” claims.

Szoboszlai has been a model of consistency, contributing 8 goals and 12 assists in all competitions so far this term.

His physical output remains unmatched; he currently leads the Premier League for distance covered per 90 minutes and ranks in the top 1% for progressive passes and shot-creating actions among midfielders in Europe’s top five leagues.

As Liverpool look to secure a vital three points at Molineux to keep their title charge on track, Slot will be hoping that his midfield talisman’s new look coincides with another masterclass in the center of the park.

Journalist drops latest on Liverpool ‘dream signing’ Michael Olise’s future at Bayern Munich

3 March 2026 at 23:29

According to reliable journalist Christian Falk, Bayern Munich have no immediate plans to open contract negotiations with French superstar Michael Olise, despite growing transfer speculation linking him with a move to the Premier League.

Speaking to CFBayern, Falk clarified that the Bavarian giants are in no rush to extend Olise’s current deal, which runs until June 2029.

The club is reportedly “relaxed” about the situation, and their internal stance is unwavering: Olise is considered a “priceless” asset and will not be sold under any circumstances or at any price this summer.

While Bayern intend to reward the winger with an improved long-term contract eventually, they are currently prioritising more urgent renewals.

Negotiations are currently centered on players like Konrad Laimer, whose camp is reportedly seeking a significant pay rise to approximately €15 million annually.

Olise, for his part, is said to be extremely happy in Munich and is willing to wait for the club to approach him at the appropriate time.

Liverpool see Michael Olise as ‘dream signing’

The firm “not for sale” message from the Allianz Arena may come as a blow to Liverpool, who have identified Olise as their “dream signing” for the 2026 summer window as per Sky Sports’ Florian Plettenberg.

Arne Slot is reportedly scouring the market for a long-term successor to Mohamed Salah, whose is expected to leave at the end of the season and Olise’s profile, a left-footed, creative force who thrives on the right wing, is seen as the perfect tactical fit for the Reds.

Scouts from Anfield have tracked Olise since his days at Crystal Palace, and his rapid rise in Germany has only intensified their admiration.

However, with no exit clause in his current contract and Bayern in total control of his future, any potential move to Merseyside currently appears “unrealistic.”

Michael Olise’s incredible stats at Bayern Munich

Since joining from Palace for £51 million last summer, Olise has taken the Bundesliga by storm. His impact under Vincent Kompany has been nothing short of transformative, establishing him as one of Europe’s most productive attackers.

So far in the 2025/26 campaign, Olise has already racked up a staggering 13 goals and 25 assists across all competitions.

These numbers follow a debut season where he recorded 20 goals and 23 assists, earning him a nomination for the Ballon d’Or.

Crystal Palace 90 16 25

With a combined 38 goal contributions this term, it is easy to see why Bayern view the 24-year-old as the crown jewel of their attacking project.

Liverpool looking to undo big transfer mistake but it will cost them £52m

3 March 2026 at 04:03

Liverpool are reportedly considering a sensational transfer U-turn that could see academy graduate Jarell Quansah return to Anfield just one year after his departure.

The 23-year-old England international joined Bayer Leverkusen last summer in a £35 million deal, but his meteoric rise in the Bundesliga has forced the Reds’ hierarchy to rethink their long-term defensive strategy.

Quansah has been a revelation for Leverkusen, establishing himself as a defensive linchpin in a team that currently boasts one of the best defensive records in Germany.

Liverpool eyeing move for Jarell Quansah

Reports from TEAMtalk suggest that Liverpool scouts have been present at Leverkusen’s last four fixtures, where the club conceded just one goal, as they intensify their assessment of the center-back.

Crucially, Liverpool inserted a buy-back clause into the original deal set at £52.5m. While this clause technically only activates in 2027, Leverkusen are reportedly aware of Liverpool’s renewed interest.

Should Quansah express a desire for a homecoming, the German club would likely not stand in his way, even if it means agreeing to bring the arrangement forward this summer.

The report adds that the plan internally at Anfield is to have Quansah compete for a starting spot alongside Virgil van Dijk, Jeremy Jacquet, who is out for the season with an injury, and the returning Giovanni Leoni, who is recovering from ACL surgery.

Richard Hughes has been heavily criticised for his transfer dealings

The potential move for Quansah comes amid growing scrutiny of Sporting Director Richard Hughes.

Since taking over the role, Hughes has faced significant backlash from the fanbase, particularly regarding the club’s contract stand-offs with key senior players, especially after having lost Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid for free.

Most pressing is the situation surrounding Ibrahima Konate, who is now in the final months of his contract.

Negotiations have reportedly hit a worrying roadblock, with the Frenchman recently snubbing a fresh offer amid interest from Real Madrid and PSG.

It now appears that selling Quansah for £35 million was also a mistake which the club intends to undo, a mistake that could end up costing them around £20m a year later

‘Exceptional’ Arsenal star makes worrying admission about his future

3 March 2026 at 02:37

Arsenal defender Riccardo Calafiori has spoken openly about a return to Roma amid his recent struggle for consistent starts under Mikel Arteta.

The Italian international, who joined the Gunners in a high-profile move from Bologna last summer, admitted that he feels he has “unfinished business” in the Italian capital.

Speaking on Alessandro Cattelan’s Supernova podcast (quoted by CalcioMercato), the 23-year-old was candid about his emotional attachment to his boyhood club.

Calafiori rose through the ranks at Roma but saw his time there cut short following a series of loans and a permanent move to Basel in 2022.

He said: “I’d like to return to Roma sometime. Obviously, it’s not like we can plan our careers now, but yes, I guess.

“Also because I left it half-done; it all started very well: goals, I also had the chance to play a little more. Then for various reasons I first went on loan and then they sold me.”

Calafiori has fallen down the pecking order for Arsenal

The admission comes at a sensitive time for Calafiori at the Emirates.

Despite an ‘exceptional‘ start to the 2025/26 campaign, where he showcased his versatility in Arteta’s inverted system, the defender has recently found himself on the periphery of the starting XI.

The arrival of Piero Hincapie from Bayer Leverkusen has increased competition for the left-sided defensive spots.

Additionally, a series of fitness setbacks, including a back injury in February, have disrupted Calafiori’s rhythm.

While he has managed 17 starts in the Premier League this season, he has been an unused substitute in recent high-profile matches against Manchester United and Tottenham.

With Arsenal currently leading the title race by five points, Arteta has favored the defensive solidity of Gabriel and William Saliba, often utilising Jurrien Timber or Hincapie in the hybrid roles Calafiori was initially signed to occupy.

With Arsenal looking to make Hincapie’s loan move permanent, the Italian defender could be on his way out in the summer.

Report: €60m Tottenham star could play alongside Harry Kane at Bayern Munich next season

3 March 2026 at 01:39

Archie Gray is attracting strong interest from Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, who have both entered the race for the versatile teenager as uncertainty grows over his future at Tottenham.

According to a report from teamTALK, the German giants are closely monitoring the England Under-21 international, viewing him as a generational talent capable of anchoring a top-tier midfield for years to come.

Archie Gray wanted by Bundesliga giants

Both Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund reportedly see Gray as a player with “huge potential.”

Dortmund, in particular, are long-term admirers, having previously scouted the player before his high-profile move from Leeds United to North London two summers ago.

The allure of the Bundesliga has grown for young English talents following the success of players like Jude Bellingham and Jamie Gittens.

Bayern are renowned for nurturing elite prospects into world-class stars, while Dortmund’s reputation for providing immediate first-team opportunities in the Champions League remains a significant draw.

As per the report, both clubs believe Gray could develop into a “top player” under their guidance, potentially mirroring the career trajectories of other British exports who have flourished in Germany.

Beyond the German interest, several Premier League sides are also waiting in the wings, prepared to offer the 19-year-old a way to stay in England. Real Madrid are also said to be interested.

Gray will reportedly cost around €60 million, and while Tottenham would hope to keep him at the club, they will reportedly be open to negotiating the departure of the former Leeds ace if the asking price is met.

Tottenham could lose several star players this summer

The sudden interest from abroad stems largely from Tottenham’s dangerous position in the Premier League table.

Currently enduring a dismal run of ten matches without a win, Spurs find themselves just four points above the relegation zone.

Should the unthinkable happen and the club drop into the Championship, keeping hold of a talent like Gray would become an almost impossible task.

And not just Gray, several star players will undoubtedly seek a move away. Cristian Romero is already linked with a summer exit while Micky van de Ven’s future at the club is also uncertain.

With Igor Tudor failing to make an instant impact, things look bleak for the North London club.

Big injury blow for Arne Slot: In-form Liverpool star out for minimum two games

3 March 2026 at 00:47

Arne Slot has today confirmed that Liverpool’s marquee summer signing Florian Wirtz will miss the upcoming Premier League clash against Wolves, with the German playmaker also a major doubt for Friday’s FA Cup fifth-round tie against the same opposition.

The 22-year-old midfielder has been sidelined with a back injury sustained during the pre-match warm-up against Nottingham Forest last month.

While there were hopes for a swift return, Slot admitted during Monday’s press conference at the AXA Training Centre that the double-header at Molineux comes too soon for the player.

“The game tomorrow will probably come too soon and maybe the game at the weekend as well,” Slot told reporters.

“We hope to have him back next week. Maybe earlier, maybe a bit later, but that is the timescale.”

The Reds will travel to face bottom-of-the-table Wolves on Tuesday night before returning to the West Midlands on Friday for a place in the FA Cup quarter-finals.

With a massive Champions League Round of 16 trip to Galatasaray looming on March 10, Slot is understandably cautious about risking his most creative spark.

Wirtz has found his feet at Liverpool after slow start

After a high-profile move from Bayer Leverkusen last June, Wirtz initially took some time to adjust to the physical demands of the Premier League.

However, 2026 has seen the German international hit a rich vein of form, becoming the focal point of Slot’s attacking transition.

Before his recent injury setback, Wirtz had recorded a staggering six goal contributions in his last 10 league games.

His ability to unlock defenses has seen him rack up a total of six goals and eight assists across all competitions this season, proving why Liverpool fought so hard for his signature.

His absence will be a blow for a Liverpool side currently pushing for a top four finish, though the return of Jeremie Frimpong provides a much-needed boost to the squad’s depth during this congested fixture period.

Tottenham force Premier League into U-turn after video goes viral

2 March 2026 at 22:50

The Premier League has been forced into an embarrassing climbdown after deleting a social media post that appeared to mock Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.

The north London club formally complained to league officials on Monday morning, labeling the content unprofessional and mean-spirited following their 2-1 defeat to Fulham at Craven Cottage.

The controversy began on Sunday night when the Premier League’s official X and TikTok accounts, which boast a combined following of over 70 million, shared a 13-second clip of Vicario.

The footage showed the Italian shot-stopper attempting a long free-kick that sailed harmlessly out of play for a Fulham goal-kick.

Accompanying the video was the caption: “Just how the play was drawn up…” followed by the text, “An interesting free-kick from Vicario,” a laughing emoji, and the word “Whoops.”

The post quickly went viral, racking up nearly 400,000 views on X alone before Tottenham officials intervened.

As per reports, Spurs’ hierarchy felt the tone of the post was “entirely inappropriate” for an official governing body, especially during a period where the league has publicly championed player welfare and mental health.

Vicario linked with summer exit

This could be the goalkeeper’s final season at the club, with reports suggesting that Tottenham are open to selling him this summer.

The player himself is also keen on a return to Italy, with several Serie A clubs showing interest in him.

Inter Milan have reportedly identified him as a target. Rivals Juventus have also been linked with Vicario, with reports stating that they have already held talks with the player’s camp.

Relegation could become a reality if things don’t change for Tottenham

The social media blunder comes at a time of genuine crisis for the club.

The defeat to Fulham marked a record-equalling 10th Premier League match without a win, leaving Spurs languishing in 16th place.

With only 10 games remaining, Tottenham sit just four points above the relegation zone.

The situation has become so dire that reports have emerged regarding a mandatory 50% wage cut for the squad should they drop into the Championship, a clause designed to protect the club’s financial stability.

Former Man United ace linked with Tottenham backed to make immediate impact at Spurs

2 March 2026 at 21:41

Crystal Palace captain Dean Henderson has been tipped to make an immediate impact at Tottenham should the North London club firm up their interest in the England international.

Speaking on Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, journalist Pete O’Rourke noted that while Henderson is ideally suited for a top-tier move, pryng him away from Selhurst Park will be no easy feat.

O’Rourke added that while Henderson has “no intention of leaving the club any time soon,” his quality is undeniable.

“It would take a lot, no doubt about that. Dean Henderson is crucial to that Palace project going forward.

“He’s taken over the captaincy since the departure of Marc Guehi and really bought into that role.

“He obviously seems like he’s happy at the club as well. You see him, the way he celebrates wins and everything else that he does. Seemingly enjoying life at Crystal Palace.

“Got a great relationship with the supporters there as well, so I don’t think he’s got any intention of leaving the club any time soon.

“Dean Henderson would be somebody who could definitely go in and make an impact at Tottenham if they were to peruse their interest.

“But from a Palace point of view, I don’t see them letting him go easily. So it won’t be easy for Tottenham if they do plan to make a move for Henderson.“

The links to Henderson come at a turbulent time for current Spurs number one Guglielmo Vicario.

The Italian has faced heavy scrutiny during a disastrous run that has seen Tottenham go 10 Premier League matches without a win, leaving them just four points above the relegation zone

Reports suggest the club hierarchy is open to selling Vicario this summer, with the goalkeeper himself reportedly keen on a return to Italy amid interest from Inter Milan and Juventus.

As per recent reports,  Juventus have even held talks with Vicario’s camp over a summer move.

42 assists defender wanted by West Ham and Leeds as summer race heats up

2 March 2026 at 20:14

West Ham United and Leeds United have a ‘concrete interest’ in FC Utrecht standout Souffian El Karouani, as the battle for the Moroccan international’s signature intensifies ahead of the summer transfer window.

According to Africa Foot, the highly-rated left-back has caught the eye of several Premier League scouts following a series of “remarkable” performances in the Eredivisie.

While recent rumors had strongly linked El Karouani with a lucrative move to Saudi Arabian side Al Qadsiah, a source close to the player’s entourage has moved to dismiss those reports.

As per Africa Foot, no official contract has been signed and no “final deal” exists with any Saudi club at this stage.

Instead, the player is said to favor a move to the Premier League. Leeds United and West Ham are both “carefully following” the defender’s situation as they look to bolster their defensive options for next season.

However, the source emphasised that the interest is currently in its early stages: “To date, this is only an interest. No details were discussed regarding a possible contract or financial conditions.”

Who is Souffian El Karouani?

The 25-year-old left-back has enjoyed a sensational 2025/26 campaign in the Netherlands.

Known for his immense attacking output from a defensive role, El Karouani has registered an incredible 16 assists and 3 goals in 40 appearances across all competitions this season, taking his overall record for the club to 28 assists and five goals.

Born in the Netherlands but representing Morocco at the international level, El Karouani has earned 5 caps for the Atlas Lions.

His current contract with Utrecht is set to expire in June 2026, which could make him an incredibly attractive proposition for Premier League clubs looking for a bargain.

El Karouani is praised for his crossing accuracy and his ability to attack the back line, a profile that fits the modern Premier League full-back.

With West Ham and Leeds currently embroiled in a relegation battle, their final league status will likely dictate whether they can firm up their interest with a formal offer in the coming weeks.

Michael Carrick reveals what he did at half-time to inspire second half comeback

2 March 2026 at 03:36

Michael Carrick has revealed how a tactical “tweak” and a demand for a personality shift inspired Manchester United to a vital 2-1 comeback victory over Crystal Palace.

The win at Old Trafford maintains Carrick’s unbeaten start as interim manager and propels the Red Devils into third place in the Premier League table.

Michael Carrick on inspiring second-half Man United comeback

United endured a sluggish start, falling behind just four minutes into the match when Maxence Lacroix headed home from a corner.

Despite finishing the first half strongly, Carrick was seen jogging animatedly down the tunnel at the interval, clearly sensing that a change was required.

He told the reporters after the game (quotes via The Sun):

“It’s the first time that we’ve been in that situation going in at half-time.

“At half-time, it was about being in that position and how we react—showing that personality and the belief. We wanted to make more runs and be a little more aggressive in attacking their back line.”

The manager downplayed his own role in the turnaround, insisting the adjustments were minor.

“It was just a couple of little tweaks in shape, maybe a couple of ideas. Honestly, it wasn’t major and I’m not taking much credit for that. It was more about finding a way.”

The tactical shift paid dividends when Matheus Cunha was fouled for a penalty, which Bruno Fernandes coolly converted to level the scores.

Benjamin Sesko scores winner yet again

The comeback was completed in the 65th minute by the man of the moment, Benjamin Sesko.

The Slovenian striker, making his first league start under Carrick, justified his selection by rising highest to power home a cross from Fernandes.

It marks Sesko’s fourth goal in his last five games, cementing his reputation as one of the league’s most clinical finishers in 2026.

After a difficult start to his United career, the £74 million signing appears to be thriving under Carrick’s guidance.

Manchester United continue their resurgence under Carrick as the fight for top four heats up.

Injuries to Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw were the only negatives for Manchester United as they will need their best players fit as we enter the final stretch.

Ruben Amorim’s ex-assistant hints at Man United dressing room issues

2 March 2026 at 01:36

Ruben Amorim’s former right-hand man, Adelio Candido, has lifted the lid on the coaching staff’s difficult tenure at Old Trafford, suggesting that the Manchester United squad failed to fully embrace or implement their tactical vision.

Following their departure from the club, Candido’s reflections offer a pointed look at the internal friction that ultimately hindered the Portuguese management team’s project in the Premier League.

Man United players did not fully implement Ruben Amorim’s ideas

Speaking to Portuguese outlet Abola, Candido reflected on the whirlwind experience of managing one of the world’s biggest clubs.

While he spoke fondly of the environment surrounding the club, his critique of the tactical execution on the pitch was telling.

“Experience is always experience, whether the outcome is good or bad, we always come away with learning,

“In Manchester, I really liked the city and the way the fans experience football, more focused on the project than on the immediate result.”

However, the coach did not hide his frustration regarding the players’ transition to their specific style of play.

“What I liked least was, without a doubt, feeling that our ideas weren’t fully implemented.”

The comments suggest a possible disconnect between the dugout and the dressing room, with the coaching staff feeling that their philosophy never truly took root among the playing staff.

Ruben Amorim’s nightmare time at Man United

Amorim arrived at Manchester United with a reputation as one of Europe’s most elite young tactical minds, but his time in England quickly spiraled into a professional nightmare.

Tasked with overhauling a struggling squad, Amorim attempted to instill his signature back-three system, a shift that many players reportedly struggled to adapt to.

Despite flashes of promise, inconsistent results and a lack of defensive cohesion plagued his reign.

Played Won Drawn Lost Points Per Game

The project mentioned by Candido was frequently undermined by high-profile individual errors and a perceived lack of intensity from senior figures in the squad.

Ultimately, the inability to get the players to buy into the tactical nuances led to a premature exit for the Portuguese staff.

Candido’s latest remarks confirm that while the fans remained patient, the resistance or inability to execute the ideas on the training ground was the fatal flaw in Amorim’s Manchester United chapter.

Sutton brutally brands Chelsea star ‘idiot’ after 2-1 defeat to Arsenal

1 March 2026 at 23:45

BBC pundit Chris Sutton has launched a scathing attack on Chelsea winger Pedro Neto, labeling the Portuguese international an “idiot” following his costly red card in the London derby against Arsenal.

Neto’s dismissal proved to be the turning point at the Emirates Stadium as the Gunners secured a vital 2-1 victory to bolster their title credentials.

Chris Sutton slams Pedro Neto

The incident occurred in the second half, shortly after Jurrien Timber had headed Arsenal into a 2-1 lead.

Neto, who had already been cautioned for dissent in the immediate aftermath of the goal, lost his composure just three minutes later.

The winger lunged into a reckless challenge on Gabriel Martinelli near the touchline, leaving referee Darren England with little choice but to issue a second yellow card.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, Sutton did not hold back in his assessment of the Chelsea star’s lack of discipline.

He said: “From Chelsea’s point of view, Pedro Neto let them down badly, What an idiot getting sent off like that.

“You’re already on a yellow card for mouthiness, which is stupid enough, and then to fly in like that on Martinelli when your team is chasing the game? It’s brainless.

“He’s a senior player now, and he’s effectively killed any chance of a comeback for his teammates.”

Huge win for Arsenal as title race heats up

The victory is a massive statement for Mikel Arteta’s side, who have now opened up a five-point lead at the top of the Premier League table over Manchester City.

Arsenal took the lead through William Saliba before a Piero Hincapié own goal leveled the scores just before the break.

However, the Gunners’ proficiency from set-pieces told once again when Timber rose highest to meet a Declan Rice corner in the 66th minute.

The win marks Arsenal’s 16th goal from a corner this season, equaling a Premier League record.

For Chelsea, the defeat halts a promising six-match unbeaten run under Liam Rosenior and leaves them sixth in the table, facing a uphill battle for Champions League qualification.

Reporter reveals what Harry Maguire did immediately after injury setback

1 March 2026 at 20:38

Manchester United’s 2-1 comeback victory over Crystal Palace at Old Trafford on Sunday was overshadowed by a significant injury concern for Harry Maguire.

The experienced center-back was forced off in the closing stages of the match, adding to a growing defensive crisis for head coach Michael Carrick.

Maguire, who has been a mainstay in Carrick’s revitalized backline, appeared to pick up a knock late in the second half.

After receiving brief treatment on the pitch, he was replaced by teenager Ayden Heaven in the 85th minute.

Rather than taking a seat on the bench, Maguire headed straight for the dressing room, sparking fears of a long-term layoff.

Dion Dublin on Harry Maguire

Former Manchester United striker Dion Dublin, reporting for BBC Radio 5 Live at Old Trafford, noted the worrying nature of the departure:

“Harry Maguire has walked off straight down the tunnel with the physios. It didn’t look like a tactical move; he looked in some discomfort as he went past.”

The injury is a bitter pill for United, who also lost Luke Shaw to an early injury in the first half of the same match.

With Lisandro Martínez and Matthijs de Ligt already sidelined, Carrick faces a selection headache ahead of a crucial trip to Newcastle United.

Man United’s resurgence under Michael Carrick continues

Despite the injury setbacks, the Carrick Effect remains in full swing.

United fell behind early to a Maxence Lacroix header but showed immense character to turn the game around after Lacroix was sent off in the second half.

Bruno Fernandes leveled from the penalty spot before Benjamin Sesko climbed highest to head home a 65th-minute winner.

The victory extends United’s unbeaten run to 10 Premier League matches, lifting them to third in the table.

Since replacing Ruben Amorim in mid-January, Carrick has transformed the side into one of the league’s most clinical outfits.

Pep Guardiola urges respect after Leeds fans boo Ramadan break during Manchester City win

1 March 2026 at 02:57

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has called for greater tolerance and understanding after a section of Leeds United supporters booed a temporary pause in play intended to allow Muslim players to break their Ramadan fast.

The incident occurred during City’s narrow 1-0 victory at Elland Road, where the match was halted in the 13th minute to accommodate players observing the holy month.

Following the sunset at approximately 5:42 PM, referee paused the match for 78 seconds to allow players, including City’s Rayan Aït-Nouri, Rayan Cherki, and Omar Marmoush, to take on fluids and nutrition.

Despite a clear explanatory message displayed on the stadium’s big screen, audible jeers rang out from the home stands.

“It is a modern world, right?” a frustrated Guardiola told reporters after the match.

“Respect religion, respect diversity, that is the point. The Premier League said you can have one or two minutes for the players to do it. It is what it is, unfortunately. What is the problem?”

Guardiola confirmed that the stoppage was essential for his players’ welfare, noting that Cherki and Aït-Nouri had not eaten all day and needed to take on vitamins and hydration to continue competing at the highest level.

Kick it Out release statement

The anti-discrimination charity Kick It Out released a scathing statement following the match, labeling the reaction from the Elland Road crowd as “massively disappointing”.

“It’s massively disappointing that some Leeds United fans booed when Manchester City’s players broke their fast during the first half of the match at Elland Road this evening. This was compounded by the fact that an explanation was displayed on a big screen inside the stadium.

Pausing the game to allow Muslim players to break their fast during Ramadan has been an agreed protocol for several years now. It’s an important and visible part of making the game welcoming for Muslim players and communities.

But as tonight’s reaction shows, football still has a long way to go in terms of education and acceptance.”

Pep Guardiola has become very vocal recently about world issues

The Spaniard’s comments are part of a growing trend of him using his platform to address social and humanitarian concerns.

In recent weeks, Guardiola has been increasingly vocal, previously hitting back at Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s comments on immigration and speaking passionately about global conflicts in Palestine, Ukraine, and Sudan, which has resulted in speculation about his future at the club.

By demanding “honorable” conduct in stadiums, Guardiola continues to position himself as a leading voice for cultural empathy within the sport, insisting that the strength of the Premier League lies in its global diversity.

Crystal Palace discover what it will take to seal deal for in-demand 24-year-old with 23 goals, 14 assists

1 March 2026 at 02:25

Crystal Palace and Everton have reportedly been alerted to the availability of KRC Genk’s rising star Zakaria El Ouahdi, with the Belgian club setting a firm valuation for the defender.

According to reports from Africa Foot, the Moroccan international is expected to leave Genk this summer as he seeks a new challenge in one of Europe’s major leagues.

The 24-year-old right-back has emerged as a primary target for several ambitious clubs.

While Bundesliga side VfB Stuttgart and Eredivisie giants PSV Eindhoven are closely monitoring his situation, the Premier League pair of Crystal Palace and Everton have shown “real interest” in bringing him to England.

Genk have reportedly slapped a €15 million (£12.5 million) price tag on the defender.

El Ouahdi has already informed the club’s management of his desire to move on at the end of the current campaign.

While he reportedly received a lucrative offer from the Russian league, the player is said to be prioritizing a “coherent sporting project” over financial gain, with the Premier League viewed as an ideal destination for his development.

Who is Zakaria El Ouahdi?

Zakaria El Ouahdi has enjoyed a breakout period in Belgium, establishing himself as one of the most dynamic full-backs in the Jupiler Pro League.

Known for his tactical discipline and ability to transition rapidly from defense to attack, he has become a mainstay in the Genk lineup since joining from RWDM in 2023.

This season has been particularly productive for the Moroccan, who has registered several goals and assists from his defensive berth.

His performances have been a key reason for Genk’s competitive showing in domestic and European competitions.

On the international stage, El Ouahdi was a standout performer for Morocco’s U23 side, helping them secure a bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Although he narrowly missed out on the squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, his primary objective remains cementing a place in the senior Moroccan national team ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Leeds open to selling first-team player for ‘big money’ amid Liverpool interest

1 March 2026 at 00:58

Leeds United have reportedly sent a clear message to potential suitors: Jaka Bijol will not be leaving Elland Road on the cheap.

The Slovenian international has become a cornerstone of Daniel Farke’s defense, and the club is prepared to demand a significant return should they decide to cash in this summer.

Speaking on the Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, transfer expert Pete O’Rourke highlighted the defender’s growing reputation.

Describing Bijol as a “monster at centre-back,” he emphasised the player’s physical prowess and dominance in the air as key factors behind his rising stock.

Leeds secured Bijol’s services from Udinese last summer for what now looks like a bargain fee of approximately £15 million.

However, after a string of commanding performances that have helped Leeds move toward Premier League safety, his valuation has skyrocketed.

O’Rourke explained: “Bijol is a monster at centre-back, loves the physical side of the game, very good in the aerial challenges as well.

“I think Leeds right now, if they stay up, which is looking positive for them, they’ll be keen to keep hold of their best players and build on what they have achieved this season.

“Bijol was a bit of a snip at £15million from Udinese. It would take big money to even consider Leeds letting him move on anytime soon.”

Liverpool linked with surprise move for Bijol

The firm stance from Leeds comes amid intensifying rumors linking the 27-year-old with a move to Liverpool.

Arne Slot is reportedly scouring the market for defensive reinforcements, with uncertainty surrounding the future of Ibrahima Konate at Anfield and having missed out on top target Marc Guehi.

Bijol has quickly adapted to the rigors of English football, putting in standout displays against the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United.

His ability to handle the “physical side of the game” has made him a primary target for clubs looking for a proven, battle-hardened center-half.

With a contract running until 2030, Leeds hold all the cards in any potential negotiations.

While Liverpool may see Bijol as an alternative to more expensive targets, they will likely have to still break the bank to convince Leeds to part with their defensive talisman.

Alexis Mac Allister reveals real reason behind Liverpool’s resurgence after West Ham rout

1 March 2026 at 00:19

Liverpool recorded a dominating 5-2 win over West Ham on Saturday, marking their fourth consecutive victory across all competitions.

The result signals a remarkable turn in form for Arne Slot’s side after a challenging and inconsistent first half of the season.

Speaking to BBC’s Match of the Day following the emphatic win, midfielder Alexis Mac Allister highlighted that time and mutual understanding have been the catalysts for their recent success.

“Now that we’ve spent some time together, things are easier for us; we understand each other,” he explained.

“The last four or five months is when teams show what they can do. That’s what we want. We know how important it is to qualify for the Champions League for the club and us as a team.”

The Argentine international, who scored a stunning volley to make it 3-0 before half-time, emphasised that the squad is finding its rhythm at the most critical juncture of the campaign.

Liverpool have regained form in 2026

The statistics reflect a side that has become increasingly difficult to beat since the turn of the year.

In 14 games across all competitions in 2026, Liverpool have recorded 8 wins, 4 draws, and only 2 defeats.

This run has seen them climb to fifth in the Premier League table, currently level on points with fourth-placed Manchester United.

Liverpool need to continue momentum to secure Champions League football

Despite the five-goal haul against the Hammers, the race for the top four remains razor-thin.

With Aston Villa just three points ahead in third and Chelsea breathing down their necks, consistency is key, with no room for complacency.

If the Reds can maintain this scoring touch and the tactical “understanding” Mac Allister referenced, a return to Europe’s elite competition looks increasingly likely.

“Far too lazy” – Liverpool star slammed despite 5-2 win against West Ham

28 February 2026 at 20:46

Liverpool star Alisson Becker has been slammed for his complacent moment during the first half of today’s Premier League clash against West Ham.

Despite the Reds cruising at Anfield, the Brazilian’s lapse in concentration nearly gifted the Hammers a lifeline in a match that remains delicately poised.

West Ham struggled with Liverpool’s set-pieces, with Hugo Ekitike opening the scoring and it wasn’t long before Dominik Szoboszlai whipped a corner into the heart of the box for Virgil van Dijk to expertly guide home for 2-0.

The highlight of the half arrived just before the interval, as Alexis Mac Allister met Ekitike’s lay-off with a sensational first-time volley to make it 3-0.

Despite the comfortable scoreline, former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock was left annoyed at a moment of madness from Alisson Becker while the Reds were 2-0 up.

The goalkeeper, often the hero for Liverpool, played a pass straight to Jarrod Bowen inside his own penalty area.

Fortunately for the hosts, the West Ham skipper was so surprised by the gift that the ball bounced off him and back into Alisson’s grateful arms.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, he said: “So complacent from Alisson. He thought it was a simple pass and it was far too lazy and relaxed.”

Liverpool will need to make sure to see off the win

The danger of such complacency became evident shortly after the restart. West Ham pulled one back early in the second half through Tomas Soucek, making the score 3-1 and injecting sudden tension into the stadium.

And while Cody Gakpo restored the three goal lead in the 70th minute, West Ham made it 4-2 just five minutes later, with Castellanos scoring from a set-piece this time, setting up a nervy finish to the game.

Liverpool have thrown away leads several times this season, and Arne Slot’s men will have to see out the game smartly to avoid another slip-up.

With the race for the top four intensifying as we head into March, the Reds cannot afford to let their concentration waver if they are to salvage their season with a Champions League spot.

Alexis Mac Allister has scored Liverpool’s third goal of the first half, with a brilliant volley past the West Ham goalkeeper.

In a clinical opening 45 minutes, Arne Slot’s side proved exactly why they currently lead the Premier League table for goals scored from set-pieces.

The scoring opened early through Hugo Ekitike. After an initial corner delivery was headed clear by the Hammers’ defense, Ryan Gravenberch showed great composure to play the ball for the Frenchman, who made no mistake in slotting home to settle the home crowd.

West Ham grew into the game after conceding and while they looked threatening in attack, it wasn’t long before Liverpool’s lead was doubled.

Dominik Szoboszlai, whose delivery has been a revelation this season, whipped a corner into the heart of the box. Virgil van Dijk rose above a sea of defenders, expertly guiding the ball into the back of the net to make it 2-0.

The highlight of the half, however, arrived just moments before the interval.

Mohamed Salah swung in a corner that was flicked toward the back post by Van Dijk. Ekitike, showing great awareness, produced a delicate touch to tee the ball up perfectly for Alexis Mac Allister.

The World Cup winner didn’t hesitate, meeting the dropping ball with a sensational first-time volley that screamed past the goalkeeper. It was a goal of pure technical quality, punctuating a dominant half of football.

Liverpool form in 2026 has improved

This performance comes at a crucial time for the Reds.

Following a turbulent first half of the 2025/26 campaign, Liverpool’s form in 2026 has seen a marked improvement.

Currently sitting in 6th place and level on points with Chelsea, the Merseysiders are locked in a high-stakes battle with the Blues and Manchester United to salvage their season.

With five Champions League slots potentially up for grabs this year, Slot’s men are desperate to climb into that top four bracket to ensure elite European football returns to Anfield.

If they can maintain this level of set-piece efficiency and clinical finishing, a late-season surge remains very much on the cards.

Martin Odegaard warned his place in starting XI no longer guaranteed

25 February 2026 at 10:00

Arsenal’s emphatic 4-1 victory over Tottenham has not only reignited their title charge but also sparked a major tactical debate regarding the future of club captain Martin Odegaard.

Following a five-star performance from Eberechi Eze, who netted twice in the North London Derby, experts are warning that Odegaard’s once-guaranteed spot in the starting XI is now under serious threat.

Martin Odegaard starting XI spot no longer guaranteed after Eze masterclass

(Photo by Vince Mignott/MB Media/Getty Images)

Eze, a £60 million summer signing from Crystal Palace, looked “absolute class” in an orthodox number 10 role, thriving in a central position supported by the double pivot of Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi.

Ex-Arsenal defender Adrian Clarke was among those to heap praise on Eze, noting that the midfielder “grew three inches taller” after opening the scoring.

Clarke argued that the swagger and drive shown by Eze has now “set the bar” for Arsenal’s creative hub.

When asked about his performance against Spurs, ex-Arsenal defender Adrian Clarke said on talkSPORT: “He was outstanding, wasn’t he?

“This was a really orthodox 10 role, because we had Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi that were flat too.

“He was the guy, central. And I think you’ve got to play quite high to affect the game.

“Make sure you get into the box. He obviously got into the box for both the goals. He wins the ball. He started to win the ball better than he did earlier on in the season.

“We saw that in the build-up to his second. I just thought once he scored the first, Eze grew three inches taller. He started to have a little bit of swagger about him. It was like his stage.

“Some of the little touches and flicks and passes around the corner were a joy to watch. He was absolute class. But he’s set the bar now.

“That has to be the level. You can’t just do it twice a season against Spurs. He has to play with that drive, that purpose, that swagger against everyone. And if he does, Odegaard won’t get back in the team.”

Eze vs. Martin Odegaard

While Odegaard has long been the creative heartbeat of Mikel Arteta’s side, this season’s statistics highlight a shifting of the guard.

Derailed by an ankle injury earlier in the campaign and a more recent knee issue, the Norwegian’s production has dipped compared to Eze’s explosive impact.

Eze’s ability to affect the game high up the pitch and his superior goal-scoring return, including five goals against Spurs alone this season, provide a directness that Odegaard has occasionally lacked in 2026.

Odegaard’s future at Arsenal uncertain

Odegaard has been linked with a move away this summer, with reports suggesting that Arsenal are ready to part ways with their captain.

Arsenal have reportedly set a hefty £80m price tag on Odegaard, who is wanted by several clubs including Inter Milan and Bayern Munich.

Spanish giants Barcelona have also been linked with him previously.

With the Norwegian’s future uncertain, Eze could very well be the long-term successor of the number 10 role at the club.

55-goal, 27 assist attacker was offered to Tottenham in January but Spurs turned it down

25 February 2026 at 03:20

While Tottenham find themselves right in the middle of a desperate fight for Premier League survival, a ghost from the January transfer window has returned to haunt them.

Ademola Lookman, the Nigerian international who has become an overnight sensation at Atletico Madrid, was reportedly offered to Spurs multiple times last month, only for the North London club to reject the chance to sign him.

Spurs were strongly linked with a move for the former Atalanta star, holding a long interest in the attacker.

And they had a chance to sign him, not once but twice, with latest being in January when they were offered the opportunity to secure his signature.

But according to The Sun, Tottenham’s hierarchy turned down the 28-year-old winger despite a “crippling” injury crisis that decimated Thomas Frank’s squad throughout January.

Lookman eventually completed a £30 million deadline-day move from Atalanta to the Spanish capital, and his impact has been nothing short of explosive.

Lookman’s immediate impact at Atletico Madrid

The Super Eagles star has already netted four goals in his first six appearances for Diego Simeone’s side.

His standout moment came just a fortnight ago, when he terrorised the Barcelona defense in a 4-0 Copa del Rey demolition.

Lookman opened his account for the club with a clinical strike and turned provider for Julián Álvarez, leaving many at the Metropolitano wondering how a player of his caliber remained available until the final hours of the window.

Spurs decision to snub Lookman questioned

The decision to snub Lookman appears even more baffling given that Spurs lost nine first-team players to injury in January alone.

Director of Football Johan Lange recently defended the club’s quiet window, claiming they had to remain “disciplined” to avoid signing “quick fixes.”

Lange argued that with a bloated squad set to return from injury, any new arrival had to be a “premium player for now and the future.”

Ironically, Lookman, who turned 28 in October, seemingly didn’t fit that long-term profile, yet he has outperformed almost every fit attacker currently in the Spurs squad.

Instead of the Nigerian, Spurs opted for Conor Gallagher and teenage full-back Souza, leaving many fans questioning why a proven goalscorer wasn’t prioritised during a relegation battle.

While Tottenham’s forwards have struggled for consistency, Lookman’s instant hit status in Spain suggests he was exactly the type of spark Spurs needed.

For a club currently sitting 16th in the table, the decision to ignore a player who has already humbled Barcelona may well go down as the most expensive mistake of their season.

While the 4-1 scoreline in the North London Derby left Tottenham fans with little to cheer about, a new piece of fan-captured footage has provided a rare moment of consolation.

Despite the heavy defeat at the hands of Arsenal, 19-year-old Archie Gray has endeared himself to the Spurs faithful with a display of raw passion and defiance following a crucial first-half equaliser.

The footage, which has quickly gone viral on social media, captures Gray’s immediate reaction to Randal Kolo Muani’s strike that momentarily leveled the game at 1-1.

The youngster was seen booting the ball with immense force directly toward the section of Arsenal supporters celebrating in the away end.

The video shows Gray launching the ball hard toward the Arsenal fans.

Arsenal fans in the footage could be seen fuming and having a go at the teenage. And on social media, the supporters are calling on for the player to be banned for his actions.

However, for the Tottenham supporters, the action has been hailed as a sign of a player who truly understands the weight of the rivalry.

Gray struggled against Viktor Gyokeres

Despite the viral moment, it was a difficult afternoon for Gray on the pitch. Deployed in a hybrid role, the teenager struggled to contain the physicality and movement of Arsenal attackers, in particular, Viktor Gyokeres.

The Swedish striker, who bagged a brace, frequently targeted Gray’s side of the pitch, exploiting the youngster’s inexperience at the elite level.

For Gyokeres’ second goal, he easily outmuscled the youngster before putting the ball past the goalkeeper.

However, if the fan reaction is anything to go by, Gray’s “derby fire” has bought him plenty of applause with a fanbase desperate for players who wear their hearts on their sleeves.

Juventus line up surprise move for Liverpool star; Reds have already signed replacement

25 February 2026 at 00:45

Juventus are reportedly preparing a sensational move to sign Liverpool’s Alisson Becker this summer as part of a massive squad overhaul under Luciano Spalletti.

According to The Standard, Juventus have identified the Brazilian international as the “dream” solution to their current goalkeeping crisis.

Spalletti has reportedly earmarked the goalkeeper position as a primary area of concern. Current number one Michele Di Gregorio has faced heavy scrutiny following a string of high-profile errors in 2026, while aging understudies Mattia Perin and Carlo Pinsoglio are not viewed as long-term solutions.

The move would see Alisson reunite with Spalletti, the man who oversaw his rise at AS Roma before his record-breaking move to Merseyside in 2018.

Juventus executives are reportedly optimistic that they can secure the 33-year-old in a “cut-rate” deal, leveraging the fact that his contract is set to enter its final year in 2027.

The Turin based club could face competition from AC Milan, who too have been linked with a move for the Liverpool star.

While Alisson remains the undisputed number one at Anfield, Liverpool’s hierarchy has already prepared for his eventual departure.

Giorgi Mamardashvili, the Georgian standout who officially joined the club in the summer of 2025, is waiting in the wings.

This succession plan could tempt the Reds to cash in on Alisson now rather than risk losing him for a reduced fee next year.

Selling Alisson will be a mistake

Despite the logic of cashing in, selling Alisson could be a catastrophic error for Liverpool.

While the Brazilian is 33-year-old, the typical aging curve doesn’t apply to elite goalkeepers; legends like Gianluigi Buffon and Manuel Neuer have proven that world-class shot-stoppers can perform at the highest level well into their late 30s.

Alisson remains statistically one of the top three goalkeepers in the world, and his presence is vital to Arne Slot’s defensive structure.

Losing his leadership and shot-stopping ability, especially with Manchester City and Arsenal still dominating the domestic scene, could be a loss that even a talent like Mamardashvili cannot immediately replace.

Report: Tottenham star’s camp has already held talks with Juventus ahead of potential summer move

24 February 2026 at 23:56

Serie A giants Juventus are in hunt of a new goalkeeper and have identified Tottenham star Guglielmo Vicario as a target.

According to The Standard, the “Old Lady” is looking to bring the 29-year-old back to Serie A as they weigh up a major change between the sticks for the 2026-27 season.

While Juventus have yet to finalise their summer budget, they have identified Vicario as a high-priority target to provide elite competition for, or potentially replace, the struggling Michele Di Gregorio.

As per the report, while Vicario is not a primary target, if budget allows they will look to make a move for him as well.

It is further reported that the representatives of Vicario have already held talks with Juventus ahead of a potential summer move.

Vicario joined Spurs from Empoli in 2023 and initially became a fan favorite. however, his desire for a return to his homeland has intensified as Tottenham’s season has unraveled.

Juventus are reportedly keen to beat rivals Inter Milan to his signature, with both clubs viewing him as a long-term solution.

The reported fee of €25-30 million (£21.7m-26.1m) is seen as a bargain for a player of his pedigree, and it’s a figure that fits comfortably within Juventus’ financial guidelines.

Spurs may be open to selling Vicario

The willingness to sell Vicario isn’t just about the player’s desire to leave. Tottenham are reportedly preparing for a brutal squad overhaul this summer.

With the club currently sitting 16th in the Premier League and facing a genuine threat of relegation, the hierarchy is planning to “rip up” the existing wage structure and move on from several high-earning stars.

It has been reported that Tottenham would be open to a sale depending on the fee offered and Vicario’s own desire for a return to Italy.

“I don’t like all that” – Scholes slams Arsenal star for what he did during the 4-1 win vs Tottenham

24 February 2026 at 22:53

Arsenal may have secured a dominant 4-1 victory over Tottenham on Sunday, but Manchester United legend Paul Scholes was far from impressed with Declan Rice’s temperament during the North London derby.

Despite the convincing scoreline, Scholes believes Rice’s lack of “calmness” in high-pressure situations could hurt Arsenal’s Premier League title ambitions.

Paul Scholes questions Declan Rice leadership during Arsenal vs Tottenham

Speaking on the Good, the Bad and the Football podcast alongside Nicky Butt, Scholes took aim at Rice’s behavior just moments before a critical error allowed Tottenham back into the contest.

The incident occurred shortly after Eberechi Eze had given Arsenal the lead.

Rice was captured on camera vigorously gesturing to his teammates to maintain their focus.

However, less than two minutes later, Rice was caught in possession by Randal Kolo Muani, whose clinical finish leveled the game at 1-1.

Scholes was unimpressed by the midfielder’s animated approach. He said:

“I don’t like all that [Rice geeing up the crowd]. When I look at Declan Rice, he almost looks too emotional. He’s lively, he’s, ‘Come on! Come on! Come on!’ and then he makes his mistake.

When you’re going for a league title, when you’ve got tough games, there has to be a calmness about you.”

Scholes compared Rice’s leadership style to that of his former captain, Roy Keane, noting that the legendary Irishman led with a sense of “calmness” rather than frantic animation.

“People will call me a miserable b******, but game-management in game situations needs a calmness,” he added.

Declan Rice’s importance to Arsenal remains undeniable

The mistake was rare for Rice, a moment reminiscent of a “Steven Gerrard slip”, but it did not prove costly in the end.

Arsenal scored three in the second half to make a statement win and the celebration showed how much the result meant to them.

Since his £105 million move from West Ham in 2023, Rice has been instrumental under Mikel Arteta.

He transformed Arsenal’s midfield almost immediately, winning the club’s Player of the Season award last year and registering eight goal contributions this campaign.

Arsenal maintained their five-point lead at the top of the Premier League table following the win over Tottenham, keeping their title challenge firmly on track.

Arteta was quick to defend his midfielder after the match, praising Rice’s “courage to stand up” following the error and emphasising his influence across the season.

However, with Manchester City still looming in the title race, it will be important for Rice and others to remain calm amid the mounting pressure.

Benjamin Sesko may have scored the winner but one player made all the difference vs Everton

24 February 2026 at 04:14

While the back pages are dominated by Benjamin Sesko’s latest heroics off the bench, Manchester United’s 1-0 victory over Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium owed just as much to the tireless, all-action display of Matheus Cunha.

The Slovenian striker may have provided the “ruthless finish” in the 71st minute to secure the three points, but it was Cunha’s tactical discipline and a singular moment of vision that laid the foundation for Michael Carrick’s latest triumph.

Matheus Cunha puts in incredible performance vs Evertton

Starting on the left flank, Cunha produced what many are calling his most complete performance in a United shirt.

While often lauded for his flair, it was his grit that stood out on Monday night.

According to Statman Dave, Cunha made a staggering 11 defensive contributions across the 94 minutes, including a goal-saving block on James Garner just seconds before United’s winning counter-attack.

However, his most decisive contribution was offensive. Deep inside his own half, Cunha intercepted a loose ball and threaded a brilliant crossfield pass to release Bryan Mbeumo.

Mbeumo’s subsequent square ball found Sesko, who hammered home his third decisive goal in four matches.

Michael Carrick yet to lose a game as Manchester United manager

The victory extends Michael Carrick’s remarkable start to life as Manchester United’s interim manager.

Since replacing Ruben Amorim on January 13, Carrick has yet to taste defeat, overseeing six unbeaten Premier League matches (W5, D1).

Under Carrick’s guidance, United have reclaimed a spot in the top four, moving three points clear of Chelsea and Liverpool.

The former midfielder has instilled a new-found resilience in the squad, evidenced by the team’s ability to grind out results late in the game.

Report: Crystal Palace preparing ‘serious push’ for €80m Marc Guehi replacement

24 February 2026 at 03:46

Crystal Palace are reportedly eyeing a move for Ousmane Diomande this summer as they revive their interest in the Sporting CP defender.

According to a report from Portuguese outlet Record (via Sport Witness), the Eagles have identified the 22-year-old as the primary target to anchor their defense for the 2026-27 campaign.

Crystal Palace ready to make big move for Ousmane Diomande

(Photo by Carlos Silva/Icon Sport via Getty Images)

The South London club previously attempted to lure the Ivorian international to Selhurst Park last year, and they are now prepared to make a “serious push” to finally get their man.

The urgency behind the pursuit stems from the recent departure of former captain Marc Guehi, who completed a high-profile move to Manchester City in the January window for approximately £20 million.

Guehi’s exit left a significant void in Oliver Glasner’s backline, resulting in the manager publicly expressing his frustration towards the club’s hierarchy.

Diomande, who is a rapid defender and physically imposing center-back, is viewed as the ideal tactical successor.

Despite signing a contract extension in Lisbon just last month, tying him to Sporting until 2030, Record suggests the renewal was a strategic move to protect his market value rather than a guarantee of his stay.

While his release clause remains fixed at €80 million (£69m), Sporting’s board reportedly recognises the need to generate transfer income this summer to fund infrastructure projects, potentially opening the door for negotiations below that figure.

Crystal Palace face strong competition from Premier League rivals

Palace will not have a clear run at the defender. Newcastle United have reportedly stepped up their scouting presence in Portugal, undeterred by the thigh injury that sidelined Diomande for the early part of this season.

Furthermore, Arsenal have been among the clubs with a strong interest in the player. Both the Gunners and Chelsea have said to have made contact with the player’s representatives last year, and remain attentive to his situation.

With 26 caps for the Ivory Coast and experience in the Champions League, Diomande has long held an ambition to play in the Premier League.

Crystal Palace have had a disappointing campaign

Many expected Oliver Glasner’s side to build on last season’s FA Cup triumph and push on in the Premier League. Instead, the momentum has stalled.

The summer departures of key players, including Eberechi Eze, significantly weakened the squad, while the January exit of Marc Guehi added to their problems.

Glasner has since voiced his frustration over the club’s ambitions, highlighting the growing uncertainty behind the scenes.

With Glasner confirming he will leave at the end of the season, the outlook at Selhurst Park appears increasingly bleak.

Palace currently sit 13th in the Premier League and look set to miss out on European qualification, a setback that could prove decisive in their pursuit of reinforcements.

That uncertainty may ultimately influence Diomande’s decision over whether to join the Eagles.

Jose Mourinho makes big decision ahead of Real Madrid Clash as UEFA bans Gianluca Prestianni

24 February 2026 at 02:58

Gianluca Prestianni has been handed a one-game provisional suspension by UEFA according to Sky Sports.

The ruling ensures the Argentine winger will miss Wednesday’s critical second-leg clash against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu.

The decision comes as a direct consequence of an ongoing investigation into allegations of racist abuse directed at Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr. during the first leg in Lisbon.

The suspension stems from the heated scenes at the Estádio da Luz last Tuesday. Following Vinicius’ second-half winner, the game was halted for nearly ten minutes after the Brazilian reported being called a “monkey” by Prestianni.

While the 20-year-old covered his mouth with his shirt during the exchange, the allegation was supported by Kylian Mbappé, who reportedly told officials he heard the slur repeated five times.

UEFA’s Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body confirmed the ban on Monday, stating it was issued “without prejudice” to any final ruling.

If found guilty at the conclusion of the full investigation, Prestianni could face a minimum 10-game suspension.

Benfica have announced they will appeal the provisional measure, though they admitted it is unlikely to be processed in time for Wednesday’s kickoff.

Jose Mourinho to skip media duty amid “gaslighting” backlash

Adding to the tension, Sky Sports reports that Benfica head coach Jose Mourinho has decided to exercise his right to skip all media duties, both pre-match and post-match, for the trip to Madrid.

Mourinho is currently serving a touchline ban of his own after being sent off in the first leg, which allows him to delegate press responsibilities to his assistant, João Tralhão.

Mourinho has faced a firestorm of criticism for his post-match comments last week, in which he appeared to blame Vinicius for the incident.

The “Special One” drew the ire of anti-racism group Kick It Out, who accused him of “gaslighting” after he suggested the Brazilian’s goal celebration incited the home crowd and players.

“A stadium where Vinícius plays, something happens, always,” Mourinho told Amazon Prime, a comment that sparked a fierce rebuttal from Bayern Munich boss Vincent Kompany, who labeled the remarks a “huge mistake.”

By avoiding the cameras this week, Mourinho seems intent on shielding himself from the mounting pressure, leaving a depleted and distracted Benfica to face the daunting task of overturning a 1-0 deficit in the Spanish capital.

‘Unacceptable’: Micky van de Ven calls out four Spurs players as Tottenham woes deepen

24 February 2026 at 02:21

Tottenham Hotspur’s star defender Micky van de Ven delivered a stinging reality check to his teammates before the humiliating 4-1 North London Derby defeat.

In a season that has spiraled into a nightmare, the Dutchman labeled the club’s current league position as “unacceptable” and named five key figures, including himself, who must shoulder the burden of saving Spurs from the drop.

With the club sitting in 16th place and just two points above the relegation zone, the mood in the dressing room is reportedly at an all-time low.

Micky van de Ven wants Tottenham teammates to step up

Speaking to Sky Sports before the match against Arsenal, the Dutchman pointedly noted that the club’s younger players cannot be expected to carry the weight of a relegation battle.

Instead, he called out a core group of five experienced players, himself, the suspended Cristian Romero, goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, midfield anchor Joao Palhinha, and striker Dominic Solanke to lead by example.

He said: “If you are a club like Tottenham Hotspur, you have this quality of place (training ground), and you are, what I say, as big as the most, it’s unacceptable that you’re standing at this place on the table, and the results need to be way, way better.

“Of course, we still have some quality players left. We have a really talented squad and some top players, but we also miss some key players for us, and it’s really important for the players who are fit right now to step up.

“You have some young players, obviously, in the group, and you can’t really ask them to be the guys that need to push us forward. So, then, normally, I have Cuti next to me, who is now unfortunately suspended, but you have [Guglielmo] Vic behind me, who has a lot of experience, Joao Palhinha, in the midfield, who has a lot of experience, [Dominic] Solanke, who has a lot of experience.”

Van de Ven accused of ignoring Igor Tudor’s orders vs Arsenal

While Van de Ven’s words were aimed at leadership, his own actions on the pitch have drawn heavy criticism.

Footage from the Arsenal defeat showed the defender completely ignoring tactical instructions from new interim boss Igor Tudor.

As Tudor frantically signaled for the line to push higher, Van de Ven remained static, a display of insubordination that mirrored a similar incident with former manager Thomas Frank earlier this season.

This public friction, combined with Spurs’ plummeting form, has pushed Van de Ven toward the exit door.

Valued at over €100 million, the 24-year-old is reportedly a target for Liverpool and Real Madrid, with the latter viewing him as the long-term successor to Virgil van Dijk.

If Van de Ven’s call to arms doesn’t spark an immediate reaction against Fulham next Sunday, he may well be leading his teammates through their final few months in a Tottenham shirt before a massive summer exodus.

Liverpool eye 43-goal Mo Salah successor who shares remarkable Chelsea redemption story – opinion

24 February 2026 at 01:20

Liverpool may soon be preparing for life after Mohamed Salah.

With a public fall out with Arne Slot and growing reports linking the Egyptian to a lucrative move to the Saudi Pro League, the Reds face a defining summer.

If Salah’s ninth season at Anfield proves to be his last, replacing one of the club’s greatest ever forwards will not be straightforward.

However, one intriguing name continues to surface: Christian Pulisic.

The AC Milan winger may not appear the obvious successor at first glance, but the parallels between his career and Salah’s own redemption arc are striking.

Pulisic already shares a striking career parallel with Mohamed Salah

Christian Pulisic of AC Milan celebrates with Davide Bartesaghi after scoring the goal during the Serie A match between AC Milan and Hellas Verona FC...
(Photo by Claudio Villa/AC Milan via Getty Images)

Pulisic’s journey mirrors Salah’s in a way that few Liverpool transfer targets can match.

Both players arrived at Chelsea as highly rated young talents, burdened by expectation and promise.

Yet neither truly flourished at Stamford Bridge. Salah departed England early in his career, rebuilding his reputation in Serie A before earning his move to Liverpool.

Similarly, Pulisic has rediscovered himself at AC Milan.

Since moving to San Siro, the USA international has evolved into a decisive, confident attacking force. He has registered 10 goals in all competitions this season, bringing his total tally for the Italian giants to 42 goals and 25 assists in 123 appearances.

More importantly, his performances suggest maturity and composure in the final third,  qualities that defined Salah’s transformation in Italy before his record-breaking return to the Premier League.

If Liverpool were to sign Christian Pulisic, they would not simply be replacing Salah; they would be betting on history repeating itself.

Pulisic’s stats compared to Salah at same age

The argument for Pulisic becomes even more compelling when comparing the two at the same age.

Pulisic is currently 27 years old, the exact age Mohamed Salah was during his iconic 2019-20 season when he led Liverpool to their first Premier League title.

Mohamed Salah of Liverpool kisses the Premier League trophy, as Liverpool are crowned the Champions of the Premier League for the 2024/25 Season,...

At 27, Salah had already established himself as a world-class finisher, but Pulisic’s current trajectory is similar.

While Pulisic may not yet have the same trophy cabinet or the incredible goal contribution numbers, his statistical efficiency at age 27 suggests he is entering his “golden era” just as Salah did.

The AC Milan star is currently averaging a goal contribution every 96 minutes, a rate comparable to Salah during his most productive years at Anfield.

For Liverpool’s recruitment team, this will be critical.

Given Liverpool’s need for immediate impact should Salah depart, Pulisic’s blend of Premier League experience, Serie A resurgence, and peak-age production makes him a compelling candidate.

Replacing Mohamed Salah is close to impossible. But if Liverpool are seeking a player who understands redemption, pressure, and elite expectations, Christian Pulisic may represent the most intriguing like-for-like evolution available on the market.

Liverpool given three-man shortlist to replace Mohamed Salah ahead of a looming summer exit

23 February 2026 at 23:27

As speculation intensifies regarding Mohamed Salah’s future at Liverpool, fuelled by a recent spat with Arne Slot and looming interest from the Saudi Pro League, former Reds striker Emile Heskey has weighed in on the impossible task of replacing the Egyptian King.

Speaking to OLBG (quotes via The Mirror), Heskey named three players who could replace Salah, should the legendary number eleven depart Anfield this summer.

Heskey was quick to admit that there will no direct replacement for Salah, but he highlighted Khvicha Kvaratskhelia as his primary target.

The Georgian international, currently starring for PSG after a high-profile move from Napoli, is Heskey’s “go-to” choice for his flair and game-changing ability.

He said: “We’re talking about replacing Mohamed Salah and I think as fans you’ve got to look at something different because you can’t replace Mo Salah. I remember one season I was speaking to someone who said Mo’s had a bad season. He’d scored 25 goals! I’d love to have had that bad of a season.

“We’re talking about someone scoring 20 plus, nearly 30 goals a season for 10 years. I don’t think you can replace Mo Salah but I do like the lad from PSG, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. He would be my go-to.”

However, the former England international also looked closer to home, suggesting West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen as a tactical alternative.

“Would Jarrod Bowen be a downgrade from Mohamed Salah? I think most players are a downgrade… but Bowen is a different type of player and he would probably help the formation because he’s going to work a little bit harder than Mo,” Heskey added

The last name on the list was former Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic. Now revitalised in Italy, Pulisic’s directness reminds Heskey of Salah’s own career path.

He suggested that, much like Salah flourished after leaving Chelsea for Serie A and returning to England, Pulisic could return to the Premier League to prove his critics wrong.

He said: “I actually quite like Christian Pulisic. He is very direct. He probably didn’t get as many goals as I would have liked him to get at Chelsea but I thought he gave defences problems.

“Obviously after a good World Cup, being at home with the pressure on him, he is definitely someone who could offer something different to Mohamed Salah or even Cody Gakpo right now.

“Mo left Chelsea to go to Italy and look at what he’s done for Liverpool. I think it’d be great to see someone like Pulisic come back into the Premier League in the same way. I’m guessing he would love to show that his time at Chelsea was just a little blip. He was only a young lad when he came over.”

Player Club Goals Assists G+A Minutes Played

Christian Pulisic AC Milan 8 2 10 962
Jarrod Bowen West Ham 8 3 11 2,328
K. Kvaratskhelia PSG 4 3 7 953

Replacing Salah’s outrageous numbers will be impossible

Salah’s consistency is virtually peerless. Replacing a player who has averaged nearly 30 goals a season for a decade is nearly impossible.

Since singing for Liverpool, Salah has broken almost every record, consistently performing season after season for 9 years.

He has recorded double digits for goals and assists every single season, accumulating 252 goals and 121 assists in 429 games across all competitions.

This season, which has been his worst ever in a Liverpool shirt has seen him score seven and assist eight so far across all competitions.

Even in his off season, the Egyptian King is expected to cross double digits for goal contributions.

Replacing someone with the outrageous numbers he has produced over the years will be impossible for the club.

“Good players with bad habits” – Igor Tudor criticises Tottenham players after heavy North London derby defeat

23 February 2026 at 02:08

Tottenham Hotspur’s new manager, Igor Tudor, pulled no punches in a bruising post-match assessment following his side’s 4-1 collapse against Arsenal.

In his first game in charge at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the Croatian tactician witnessed a performance that he believes was undermined by deep-seated “bad habits” within the squad.

Despite the heavy defeat, which leaves Spurs languishing in 16th place, Tudor remains defiant about the team’s survival prospects, though his diagnosis of the current locker room culture was scathing.

Igor Tudor says Tottenham have good players with bad habits

Speaking to the media after the final whistle, Tudor was asked if he still maintained the confidence that Tottenham could avoid a catastrophic relegation.

His response was a mixture of belief in the squad’s raw talent and frustration with their application.

Tudor highlighted that while the physical quality exists, the “psychological” baggage from previous regimes and a lack of focus in key moments, such as conceding a second-half goal just 23 seconds after the restart, is what currently separates them from the elite.

He said (via BBC Sport):

“Of course I’m confident, because I believe these are good players with bad habits. They are good players; nobody can tell me they don’t have quality. But we need to change a mental switch and have this mental sharpness to be in the game from the first to the second minute.”

Tottenham facing serious relegation threat

While Tudor talks of a “mental switch,” the league table tells a far more urgent story. The 4-1 defeat, fueled by braces from Eberechi Eze and Viktor Gyokeres, means Spurs are now winless in the Premier League for the entirety of 2026 so far.

With only 11 games remaining, Tottenham sit just four points above the relegation zone.

The “emergency situation” Tudor described upon his arrival has only intensified, and with footage emerging of key players like Micky van de Ven appearing to ignore his instructions, the task of breaking those “bad habits” before the drop becomes a monumental challenge.

Tottenham must now find that sharpness quickly, starting with next Sunday’s crucial clash, or face the unthinkable prospect of Championship football.

The video, captured by Spurs content creator Chris Cowlin, shows a frantic Tudor on the touchline repeatedly gesturing for Van de Ven to push the defensive line higher to squeeze the space between midfield and attack.

Despite the manager’s increasingly animated shouts, the defender pointedly refused to comply, maintaining his deep position.

The footage has sparked outrage among the Spurs faithful, many criticising the centre-back for his actions.

They didn’t listen to Thomas Frank so they won’t listen to Tudor. It’s the players that are getting us relegated, not the managers.

— STONEY (@mrmstoney) February 22, 2026

VDV thinks his to good for the club now. He obviously can’t be asked anymore. (Some may not blame him).

I honestly fear our club might be relegated this season. We have such crap players it’s unreal.

— Jorge (@JoeJorge1980) February 22, 2026

Alarmingly, this is not the first time Van de Ven has ignored his manager.

Earlier this season after the defeat against Chelsea, Micky van de Ven was caught on camera walking past former manager Thomas Frank, completely ignoring the Dane as he tried to speak to him.

The repetition of this behavior suggests that the 22-year-old’s frustrations with Tottenham’s struggling form are manifesting as a lack of respect for the managerial hot seat.

Micky van de Ven linked with Tottenham exit

With Spurs sitting in 16th place and the atmosphere turning toxic, Van de Ven’s future at the club is now increasingly uncertain.

Having been one of the few bright sparks since his arrival, his recent conduct has fuelled speculation of a summer departure.

Several top clubs have shown interest in him. Most recently, Liverpool have emerged as strong suitors.

Reports suggest that Liverpool see him as an ideal successor to Virgil van Dijk and that the Reds are reportedly preparing a bid as high as €100m for the big Dutchman.

It appears that the player has his heart set away from Tottenham making a summer exit a likely possibility.

‘Slightly concerned’: Sutton slams Arsenal players for what they did after the 4-1 win against Tottenham

22 February 2026 at 23:33

Arsenal delivered a blistering response to their recent title jitters with an emphatic 4-1 dismantling of arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

While the Gunners’ players and fans celebrated wildly at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, former Premier League striker Chris Sutton was far from impressed, warning that Mikel Arteta’s side might be getting ahead of themselves.

The victory was a statement of intent after disappointing draws against Brentford and Wolves had threatened to derail their campaign.

However, the jubilant scenes at the final whistle, featuring prolonged on-pitch huddles and emotional fan interactions, drew a sharp rebuke from Sutton.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live shortly after the match, Sutton expressed concern that the exuberance could lead to complacency in a title race that remains on a knife-edge.

Sutton said: “Slightly concerned with the over celebrating from the Arsenal players. Celebrate at the end of the season when you have won the title.”

Sutton’s comments tap into a recurring narrative surrounding Arteta’s Arsenal, who have frequently been accused of over-celebrating mid-season victories.

For Sutton, the focus should remain solely on the ten games left to play rather than a single derby win.

Eze and Gyokeres restore five-point cushion

Despite Sutton’s grumbles, the performance on the pitch was undeniable. Eberechi Eze continued his remarkable “derby demon” streak, netting a clinical brace, making it five goals in two games vs Spurs in an Arsenal shirt, ending his Premier League goal drought.

He was joined on the scoresheet by summer signing Viktor Gyokeres, who also bagged two goals and an impressive overall performance.

Kolo Muani scored the only goal for Tottenham, after a mistake from Declan Rice.

The 4-1 win ensures Arsenal maintain a five-point lead at the top of the Premier League table.

However, the pressure remains high as second-placed Manchester City still hold a game in hand.

While Spurs remain mired in 16th place under new boss Igor Tudor, Arsenal have reclaimed their status as title favorites.

Watch: Declan Rice suffers embarrassing ‘Gerrard slip’ moment in costly Arsenal error vs Tottenham

22 February 2026 at 21:43

In a North London derby that has everything on the line, Declan Rice has found himself at the center of a nightmare scenario that will haunt Arsenal fans if they fail to secure a result.

Just moments after demanding focus and composure from his teammates, the England midfielder suffered a catastrophic “Steven Gerrard slip” moment, gifting Randal Kolo Muani an equaliser for Tottenham Hotspur.

The parallels to Gerrard’s infamous 2014 slip against Chelsea are uncanny. With Arsenal leading through an Eberechi Eze strike and seemingly in total control, Rice was seen visibly gesturing to his fellow players, urging them to stay switched on and avoid “silly mistakes.”

However, less than two minutes later, Rice was the one who blinked.

Declan Rice spoke to his Arsenal teammates after Eberechi Eze's goal, seemingly reminding them to stay switched on.

Minutes later, he gave the ball away, which led Randal Kolo Muani's equaliser.

Declan Rice makes costly error minutes after telling teammates to not lose focus

Under little apparent pressure just outside his own box, Rice was caught in possession by Kolo Muani.

In a moment that mirrored Gerrard’s “This does not slip” speech followed by his actual slip, Rice appeared to lose his footing or hesitate on the ball.

Kolo Muani didn’t need a second invitation, nicking the ball off the £105 million man, weaving past William Saliba, and hammering a low finish past David Raya.

For a player usually lauded for his composure, this high-profile error in the heat of a derby is a rare and jarring blemish.

A must-win game for Arteta’s title charge

The stakes could not be higher for Mikel Arteta’s side. Arsenal entered this weekend with their title charge wobbling after dropping points against Brentford and Wolves.

With Manchester City breathing down their necks and holding a game in hand, anything less than a win today could see the Gunners lose their grip on the Premier League trophy.

As the match continues into a tense second half, the pressure is firmly on Rice to redeem himself.

Arsenal have been the better side, but in a title race decided by the thinnest of margins, Rice’s “Gerrard moment” has given Spurs a lifeline they scarcely deserved.

Alexis Mac Allister reveals what he told Hugo Ekitike moments before scoring the winner

22 February 2026 at 21:20

Liverpool remain in the race for Champions League football as Alexis Mac Allister emerged as the unlikely hero at City Ground.

In a chaotic finale against Nottingham Forest, the Argentine midfielder revealed he had predicted his match-winning moment to teammate Hugo Ekitike just seconds before finding the back of the net.

The 1-0 victory keeps Liverpool level on points with top-four rivals Chelsea and Manchester United, but the three points were shrouded in controversy and a performance that manager Arne Slot will likely want to forget.

The game reached a boiling point in the 89th minute when Mac Allister thought he had broken the deadlock.

After Stefan Ortega produced a stunning save to deny Ekitike, the ball ricocheted off Mac Allister’s midriff and into the net.

However, following a lengthy VAR review, the goal was chalked off for a handball.

Reflecting on the disallowed effort, Mac Allister told BBC Sport:

“It hit my back and my elbow. I understand the rule, but if you understand football, that goal should have stood. I told Hugo [Ekitike] it would be a goal and one or two minutes later, it was. I’m very glad it was me.”

True to his word, Mac Allister didn’t let the frustration linger. In the 97th minute, he pounced on a loose ball following a Virgil van Dijk knockdown to fire home the legitimate winner, sparking wild celebrations in the away end.

Liverpool lucky to win after awful performance

Despite the late heroics, there was no hiding the lacklustre nature of Liverpool’s play. It was a poor showing from everyone including Mohamed Salah, who was not too happy at being taken off.

Deprived of the injured Florian Wirtz at the last minute, the Reds lacked any real attacking impetus for over an hour.

That speaks volume given the current state of the opponents who sit 17th in the table. Liverpool’s next opponents are West Ham, who are currently 18th, fighting for their life.

The intensity of the relegation fight will make that clash equally challenging. Liverpool will need a far more complete performance if they are to keep their Champions League ambitions on track.

Watch: What Mohamed Salah was seen doing immediately after being taken off by Arne Slot

In the 77th minute, Slot made his first changes of the match, introducing Federico Chiesa and Rio Ngumoha in place of Cody Gakpo and Salah.

The Egyptian forward did not appear pleased with the decision. As he made his way off the pitch, Salah was seen wearing a sarcastic grin and shaking his head. Moments later, cameras caught him on the bench laughing in apparent disbelief at the call to withdraw him while Liverpool were still searching for a winner.

Mohamed Salah had a poor game against Nottingham Forest

By his usual high standards, Salah struggled to make an impact. His numbers against Forest painted a subdued picture:

  • 0 shots
  • 0 dribbles
  • 0 accurate crosses
  • 4 unsuccessful touches

Slot’s decision to replace him ultimately proved justified, particularly given the immediate energy provided by Ngumoha. In just 14 minutes on the pitch, the youngster recorded:

  • 11 touches
  • 2/2 take-ons completed (100%)
  • 2 duels won
  • 1 chance created
  • 1 touch in the opposition box

While it was undeniably an off-day for Salah, his world-class quality remains unquestioned. Even in matches where he struggles to influence proceedings, he possesses the ability to conjure a decisive moment out of nothing.

However, his reaction is likely to fuel further speculation about his future. Having reportedly fallen out with Slot earlier this season, uncertainty continues to surround his long-term prospects at Anfield. The Saudi Pro League are eager to make him the face of the competition, with Al-Ittihad believed to be in discussions with his representatives.

If tensions behind the scenes persist and results fail to improve, this season could yet prove to be Salah’s final chapter at Liverpool.
