“Good players with bad habits” – Igor Tudor criticises Tottenham players after heavy North London derby defeat

Tottenham Hotspur’s new manager, Igor Tudor, pulled no punches in a bruising post-match assessment following his side’s 4-1 collapse against Arsenal.

In his first game in charge at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the Croatian tactician witnessed a performance that he believes was undermined by deep-seated “bad habits” within the squad.

Despite the heavy defeat, which leaves Spurs languishing in 16th place, Tudor remains defiant about the team’s survival prospects, though his diagnosis of the current locker room culture was scathing.

Speaking to the media after the final whistle, Tudor was asked if he still maintained the confidence that Tottenham could avoid a catastrophic relegation.

His response was a mixture of belief in the squad’s raw talent and frustration with their application.

Tudor highlighted that while the physical quality exists, the “psychological” baggage from previous regimes and a lack of focus in key moments, such as conceding a second-half goal just 23 seconds after the restart, is what currently separates them from the elite.

He said (via BBC Sport):

“Of course I’m confident, because I believe these are good players with bad habits. They are good players; nobody can tell me they don’t have quality. But we need to change a mental switch and have this mental sharpness to be in the game from the first to the second minute.”

Tottenham facing serious relegation threat

While Tudor talks of a “mental switch,” the league table tells a far more urgent story. The 4-1 defeat, fueled by braces from Eberechi Eze and Viktor Gyokeres, means Spurs are now winless in the Premier League for the entirety of 2026 so far.

With only 11 games remaining, Tottenham sit just four points above the relegation zone.

The “emergency situation” Tudor described upon his arrival has only intensified, and with footage emerging of key players like Micky van de Ven appearing to ignore his instructions, the task of breaking those “bad habits” before the drop becomes a monumental challenge.

Tottenham must now find that sharpness quickly, starting with next Sunday’s crucial clash, or face the unthinkable prospect of Championship football.

The video, captured by Spurs content creator Chris Cowlin, shows a frantic Tudor on the touchline repeatedly gesturing for Van de Ven to push the defensive line higher to squeeze the space between midfield and attack.

Despite the manager’s increasingly animated shouts, the defender pointedly refused to comply, maintaining his deep position.

The footage has sparked outrage among the Spurs faithful, many criticising the centre-back for his actions.

They didn’t listen to Thomas Frank so they won’t listen to Tudor. It’s the players that are getting us relegated, not the managers.

— STONEY (@mrmstoney) February 22, 2026

VDV thinks his to good for the club now. He obviously can’t be asked anymore. (Some may not blame him).

I honestly fear our club might be relegated this season. We have such crap players it’s unreal.

— Jorge (@JoeJorge1980) February 22, 2026

Alarmingly, this is not the first time Van de Ven has ignored his manager.

Earlier this season after the defeat against Chelsea, Micky van de Ven was caught on camera walking past former manager Thomas Frank, completely ignoring the Dane as he tried to speak to him.

The repetition of this behavior suggests that the 22-year-old’s frustrations with Tottenham’s struggling form are manifesting as a lack of respect for the managerial hot seat.

Micky van de Ven linked with Tottenham exit

With Spurs sitting in 16th place and the atmosphere turning toxic, Van de Ven’s future at the club is now increasingly uncertain.

Having been one of the few bright sparks since his arrival, his recent conduct has fuelled speculation of a summer departure.

Several top clubs have shown interest in him. Most recently, Liverpool have emerged as strong suitors.

Reports suggest that Liverpool see him as an ideal successor to Virgil van Dijk and that the Reds are reportedly preparing a bid as high as €100m for the big Dutchman.

It appears that the player has his heart set away from Tottenham making a summer exit a likely possibility.

‘Slightly concerned’: Sutton slams Arsenal players for what they did after the 4-1 win against Tottenham

Arsenal delivered a blistering response to their recent title jitters with an emphatic 4-1 dismantling of arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

While the Gunners’ players and fans celebrated wildly at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, former Premier League striker Chris Sutton was far from impressed, warning that Mikel Arteta’s side might be getting ahead of themselves.

The victory was a statement of intent after disappointing draws against Brentford and Wolves had threatened to derail their campaign.

However, the jubilant scenes at the final whistle, featuring prolonged on-pitch huddles and emotional fan interactions, drew a sharp rebuke from Sutton.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live shortly after the match, Sutton expressed concern that the exuberance could lead to complacency in a title race that remains on a knife-edge.

Sutton said: “Slightly concerned with the over celebrating from the Arsenal players. Celebrate at the end of the season when you have won the title.”

Sutton’s comments tap into a recurring narrative surrounding Arteta’s Arsenal, who have frequently been accused of over-celebrating mid-season victories.

For Sutton, the focus should remain solely on the ten games left to play rather than a single derby win.

Eze and Gyokeres restore five-point cushion

Despite Sutton’s grumbles, the performance on the pitch was undeniable. Eberechi Eze continued his remarkable “derby demon” streak, netting a clinical brace, making it five goals in two games vs Spurs in an Arsenal shirt, ending his Premier League goal drought.

He was joined on the scoresheet by summer signing Viktor Gyokeres, who also bagged two goals and an impressive overall performance.

Kolo Muani scored the only goal for Tottenham, after a mistake from Declan Rice.

The 4-1 win ensures Arsenal maintain a five-point lead at the top of the Premier League table.

However, the pressure remains high as second-placed Manchester City still hold a game in hand.

While Spurs remain mired in 16th place under new boss Igor Tudor, Arsenal have reclaimed their status as title favorites.

Watch: Declan Rice suffers embarrassing ‘Gerrard slip’ moment in costly Arsenal error vs Tottenham

In a North London derby that has everything on the line, Declan Rice has found himself at the center of a nightmare scenario that will haunt Arsenal fans if they fail to secure a result.

Just moments after demanding focus and composure from his teammates, the England midfielder suffered a catastrophic “Steven Gerrard slip” moment, gifting Randal Kolo Muani an equaliser for Tottenham Hotspur.

The parallels to Gerrard’s infamous 2014 slip against Chelsea are uncanny. With Arsenal leading through an Eberechi Eze strike and seemingly in total control, Rice was seen visibly gesturing to his fellow players, urging them to stay switched on and avoid “silly mistakes.”

However, less than two minutes later, Rice was the one who blinked.

Declan Rice spoke to his Arsenal teammates after Eberechi Eze's goal, seemingly reminding them to stay switched on.

Minutes later, he gave the ball away, which led Randal Kolo Muani's equaliser.

Declan Rice makes costly error minutes after telling teammates to not lose focus

Under little apparent pressure just outside his own box, Rice was caught in possession by Kolo Muani.

In a moment that mirrored Gerrard’s “This does not slip” speech followed by his actual slip, Rice appeared to lose his footing or hesitate on the ball.

Kolo Muani didn’t need a second invitation, nicking the ball off the £105 million man, weaving past William Saliba, and hammering a low finish past David Raya.

For a player usually lauded for his composure, this high-profile error in the heat of a derby is a rare and jarring blemish.

A must-win game for Arteta’s title charge

The stakes could not be higher for Mikel Arteta’s side. Arsenal entered this weekend with their title charge wobbling after dropping points against Brentford and Wolves.

With Manchester City breathing down their necks and holding a game in hand, anything less than a win today could see the Gunners lose their grip on the Premier League trophy.

As the match continues into a tense second half, the pressure is firmly on Rice to redeem himself.

Arsenal have been the better side, but in a title race decided by the thinnest of margins, Rice’s “Gerrard moment” has given Spurs a lifeline they scarcely deserved.

Alexis Mac Allister reveals what he told Hugo Ekitike moments before scoring the winner

Liverpool remain in the race for Champions League football as Alexis Mac Allister emerged as the unlikely hero at City Ground.

In a chaotic finale against Nottingham Forest, the Argentine midfielder revealed he had predicted his match-winning moment to teammate Hugo Ekitike just seconds before finding the back of the net.

The 1-0 victory keeps Liverpool level on points with top-four rivals Chelsea and Manchester United, but the three points were shrouded in controversy and a performance that manager Arne Slot will likely want to forget.

The game reached a boiling point in the 89th minute when Mac Allister thought he had broken the deadlock.

After Stefan Ortega produced a stunning save to deny Ekitike, the ball ricocheted off Mac Allister’s midriff and into the net.

However, following a lengthy VAR review, the goal was chalked off for a handball.

Reflecting on the disallowed effort, Mac Allister told BBC Sport:

“It hit my back and my elbow. I understand the rule, but if you understand football, that goal should have stood. I told Hugo [Ekitike] it would be a goal and one or two minutes later, it was. I’m very glad it was me.”

True to his word, Mac Allister didn’t let the frustration linger. In the 97th minute, he pounced on a loose ball following a Virgil van Dijk knockdown to fire home the legitimate winner, sparking wild celebrations in the away end.

Liverpool lucky to win after awful performance

Despite the late heroics, there was no hiding the lacklustre nature of Liverpool’s play. It was a poor showing from everyone including Mohamed Salah, who was not too happy at being taken off.

Deprived of the injured Florian Wirtz at the last minute, the Reds lacked any real attacking impetus for over an hour.

That speaks volume given the current state of the opponents who sit 17th in the table. Liverpool’s next opponents are West Ham, who are currently 18th, fighting for their life.

The intensity of the relegation fight will make that clash equally challenging. Liverpool will need a far more complete performance if they are to keep their Champions League ambitions on track.

In the 77th minute, Slot made his first changes of the match, introducing Federico Chiesa and Rio Ngumoha in place of Cody Gakpo and Salah.

The Egyptian forward did not appear pleased with the decision. As he made his way off the pitch, Salah was seen wearing a sarcastic grin and shaking his head. Moments later, cameras caught him on the bench laughing in apparent disbelief at the call to withdraw him while Liverpool were still searching for a winner.

Mohamed Salah had a poor game against Nottingham Forest

By his usual high standards, Salah struggled to make an impact. His numbers against Forest painted a subdued picture:

Slot’s decision to replace him ultimately proved justified, particularly given the immediate energy provided by Ngumoha. In just 14 minutes on the pitch, the youngster recorded:

  • 2/2 take-ons completed (100%)
  • 2 duels won
  • 1 chance created
  • 1 touch in the opposition box

While it was undeniably an off-day for Salah, his world-class quality remains unquestioned. Even in matches where he struggles to influence proceedings, he possesses the ability to conjure a decisive moment out of nothing.

However, his reaction is likely to fuel further speculation about his future. Having reportedly fallen out with Slot earlier this season, uncertainty continues to surround his long-term prospects at Anfield. The Saudi Pro League are eager to make him the face of the competition, with Al-Ittihad believed to be in discussions with his representatives.

If tensions behind the scenes persist and results fail to improve, this season could yet prove to be Salah’s final chapter at Liverpool.

“It could be best for both sides” – Liverpool urged to let key player leave in the summer

Former Tottenham, Real Madrid and Netherlands player Rafael van der Vaart has urged Liverpool to part way with Mohamed Salah.

The Egyptian attacker has had a public feud with manager Arne Slot this season after he was dropped from the team.

After spending time on the bench, Salah spoke of his frustration and pointed blame towards the manager.

He was then dropped from the squad with the club taking a strong stance against the player and in favour of the manager.

His form has been poor throughout the season and considering how good he was for the Merseyside club last season in their league winning campaign, his downfall this season has been surprising to see.

Rafael van der Vaart shares his opinion on Salah

Van der Vaart believes that Salah has lost his pace and it is time for the Premier League giants to move on from him.

He told Sky Bet, as reported by Liverpool.com:

“When I look at Mohammed Salah and the position he plays on the pitch, he has lost that extra half yard and the pace is gone with age.

“When you look at Virgil van Dijk, age is less important for a defender.

“There were games he performed not at his best and everyone writes him off, but over a full season, even at this age, he shows everyone how good he is.

“Having a big player and a big name (like Salah) is sometimes a problem for both the player and coach.

“When you expect certain things as a coach from him, and he doesn’t do it, then of course you have the right to put him on the bench, but because it’s Mohamed Salah, this can cause a massive issue – in every press conference every question will be on Salah.

“It could be best for both sides if Salah goes somewhere else in the summer.”

Interest is expected to increase in Salah in the summer transfer window.

Saudi Pro League clubs have strong interest in the Premier League star and they are expected to target him again this year.

Salah has given his best for the club and has spent his peak years playing for them, perhaps now is the right time to move on for a new challenge and for Liverpool to replace him.

The Reds have been linked with moves for Bayern Munich’s Michael Olise, as well as Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon as they plan to prepare for life without Salah.

The England international has long been admired by Liverpool’s recruitment team, and renewed uncertainty surrounding Salah’s future has intensified discussions over potential successors.

As one of the Premier League’s most dynamic wide attackers, Gordon has developed into a player capable of influencing matches at the highest level, as shown in the Champions League this season.

Gordon is a long term Liverpool target

Liverpool have monitored Gordon’s progress for several seasons, dating back to his early rise in English football.

Known to have grown up supporting Liverpool, Gordon’s connection to the club has often been mentioned in the media.

The Reds previously explored the possibility of signing him, but circumstances and valuation gaps prevented a deal from materialising.

Now, with Salah entering the latter stages of his contract and external interest lingering, Liverpool are reportedly revisiting their long-term shortlist.

Gordon’s profile fits Liverpool’s attacking blueprint. He offers blistering pace, aggressive pressing and the ability to cut inside from wide areas.

Newcastle United have relied heavily on Gordon’s attacking output this season, particularly in Europe.

His 10 goals in the Champions League campaign have elevated his reputation, demonstrating his ability to perform on elite stages.

Such performances have attracted wider attention. Arsenal and Manchester United are also understood to be tracking his situation, adding competitive pressure to any potential deal.

As mentioned in a report, it would take an “extraordinary offer” for the Magpies to consider selling Gordon.

After years of consistent excellence under Pep Guardiola, Silva now faces a crucial career decision.

With interest spanning Spain, Italy and the Middle East, the 31-year-old could be set for a new chapter after nearly a decade in Manchester.

Bernardo Silva has been a key figure for Man City

Man City signed Silva from AS Monaco in 2017, and he quickly established himself as one of Guardiola’s most tactically versatile players.

Comfortable operating as a central attacking midfielder, wide playmaker or even in deeper roles when required, Silva’s intelligence and work rate have made him indispensable in City’s system.

Man City manager Guardiola has called Bernardo ‘one of the best players’ he has ever trained in his career.

Despite entering his thirties, Silva remains technically sharp and tactically adaptable.

Atlético Madrid are reportedly monitoring Silva’s contract situation closely.

Diego Simeone’s side are seeking creative reinforcement to complement their established attacking core, and Silva’s experience at the highest level fits the profile.

Spanish football’s slower tempo and emphasis on technical control could suit Silva’s playing style, particularly as he enters the later stages of his career.

Interest is not limited to Madrid. Juventus and Barcelona have also been linked, while clubs in the Saudi Pro League are believed to be monitoring developments.

Liverpool face Real Madrid competition for £61 million Tottenham star

Luka Vušković’s rapid rise in Germany has placed him firmly on the radar of Europe’s biggest clubs, with Liverpool and Real Madrid among those closely monitoring the Tottenham defender, according to Sports Boom.

The 18-year-old centre-back has impressed during his loan spell at Hamburg in the Bundesliga, attracting admiration after brilliant performances.

As interest intensifies, Tottenham are understood to value the Croatian prospect at up to £61 million, a figure that shows both his potential and their determination to retain control over his future.

Vušković has experience a meteoric rise in Bundesliga

Hamburger SV have benefited significantly from Vušković’s composure and physical maturity this season.

Despite his age, he has displayed the hallmarks of a modern centre-back, comfort in possession, strong aerial presence and tactical awareness in high defensive lines.

His performances in Germany have accelerated his development curve, exposing him to a competitive environment that demands both discipline and technical confidence.

Scouts from across Europe have reportedly attended matches to assess his progress firsthand.

Tottenham’s decision to facilitate his loan move appears to have paid dividends.

Liverpool are said to be evaluating defensive reinforcements as part of long-term succession planning, and Vušković’s profile matches with their strategy of investing in high-ceiling young talent.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid have also been linked, consistent with their recent recruitment trend of targeting elite prospects before they reach full market value.

Barcelona, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain are similarly reported to be tracking the teenager’s progress as he continues to impress.

Spurs remain in a strong negotiating position. Vušković is viewed internally as a cornerstone of the club’s defensive future, and the reported £61 million valuation signals reluctance to entertain bids.

Jadon Sancho set to be offered lifeline by Euro giants to end Premier League nightmare

Jadon Sancho’s future appears set for another turning point, with Borussia Dortmund reportedly prepared to welcome the winger back for a third spell at the club.

As his contract with Manchester United approaches its expiration this summer, Sancho is poised to become a free agent, a scenario that has reignited interest from familiar surroundings in Germany, according to TEAMtalk.

After a turbulent few years marked by inconsistent form and multiple loan spells, the prospect of a return to Dortmund offers both player and club an opportunity to revisit a partnership that once flourished.

Jadon Sancho is still searching for stability in his career

Man United signed Sancho in 2021 for a substantial fee after his breakout years at Borussia Dortmund.

At the time, he was regarded as one of Europe’s most dynamic young attackers, combining pace, creativity and a sharp eye for goal.

However, his time in England has been defined by inconsistency and managerial upheaval.

Loan spells, first back to Dortmund, then to Chelsea and more recently to Aston Villa, have offered glimpses of his technical quality but failed to deliver sustained impact.

His current stint at Villa Park has not met expectations, further fuelling speculation that a permanent departure from the Premier League is imminent.

United, reportedly unwilling to extend his contract or continue carrying his wages, appear ready to allow him to leave on a free transfer.

For Dortmund, the potential reunion represents a calculated risk with significant upside.
Sancho thrived in the Bundesliga, where his freedom on the flanks and confidence in one-on-one situations made him a standout performer.

The club’s environment and tactical structure previously suited his strengths, enabling him to express himself creatively.

While interest from Italian clubs has also been noted, Dortmund’s familiarity with the player could give them a decisive advantage in negotiations.

€100 million Man United target is keen on staying at his club in a major blow to Red Devils

Rafael Leão’s future at AC Milan has once again become a topic of discussion across Europe, but the latest reports from Italy suggest the Portuguese winger remains fully committed to the Rossoneri.

Journalist Daniele Longo has indicated that Milan are already exploring ways to extend Leão’s stay, reinforcing their intention to build around one of Serie A’s most electrifying talents.

Despite recurring links to the Premier League, particularly with Manchester United, all indications point toward Leão staying at Milan rather than moving to the Premier League.

AC Milan have no intention of selling Leão

AC Milan view Leão as central to their sporting project.

At 26, he is entering what many consider the prime years of his career, combining experience with peak physical attributes.

His pace, direct dribbling and ability to unlock defences have made him indispensable in Milan’s attacking structure.

While Milan acknowledge that every player has a market value, insiders suggest it would require an extraordinary offer to prompt serious consideration of a sale.

The club’s stance reflects both Leão’s importance and the difficulty of replacing a forward capable of consistently influencing top level matches.

Man United have frequently been linked with Leão, as they assess options to enhance their attacking depth.

His ability to operate from the left wing, drift centrally or support as a secondary striker makes him an appealing target for clubs seeking versatility and explosive threat in transition.

A recent report from Fichajes has suggested that any serious approach could require a fee in the region of €100 million.

While Premier League speculation is unlikely to disappear, the Rossoneri’s proactive approach to securing his long-term commitment signals confidence.

Speculation linking Bruno Fernandes with a move to Bayern Munich has been firmly downplayed, with reports from Christian Falk indicating the Bundesliga champions have no intention of pursuing the Manchester United captain.

Despite persistent rumours over recent months, Bayern are not currently considering a bid for the Portuguese midfielder.

The clarification comes at a time when Fernandes’ future has once again become a talking point, amid contract considerations and Man United’s squad planning.

Bruno Fernandes has remained crucial for Man United

Man United continue to rely heavily on Fernandes as their creative focal point.

At 31, he remains the team’s most influential attacking midfielder, contributing six goals and 13 assists across all competitions this season.

Beyond statistics, his leadership and relentless work rate have stood out in what has been a challenging campaign.

Last summer, Fernandes was reportedly courted by clubs in the Saudi Pro League but ultimately chose to remain in England.

That decision reinforced his commitment to competing at the highest level in Europe, though it also highlighted the growing external interest in his services.

United ideally want to retain their captain, yet the club are aware that his current age could make this a pivotal window if they were ever to consider maximising transfer value.

Bayern Munich prepare for midfield changes

Bayern Munich have been linked with midfield reinforcements, particularly with Leon Goretzka expected to depart next summer as a free agent.

However, reports suggest Fernandes does not align with Bayern’s current recruitment profile.

While his quality is unquestioned, Fernandes’ wage demands and age may not fit Bayern’s strategic focus on balancing financial sustainability with long-term squad planning.

The German club are believed to be targeting younger midfield profiles capable of developing within their system.

Whether United choose to extend Fernandes’ prime years at Old Trafford or eventually reshape their squad around a younger core remains to be seen but a move to Bavaria is not currently on the agenda.

‘I would love desperately’ – Man City boss Guardiola confirms stance on midfielder

Manchester City are keen to safeguard the long-term future of Rodri, with Pep Guardiola making his admiration for the midfielder abundantly clear amid ongoing contract discussions.

The Spain international, whose current deal runs until 2027, remains central to City’s tactical structure and competitive ambitions.

As speculation occasionally surfaces regarding interest from Europe’s elite, City are understood to be eager to open dialogue over an extension that would secure one of the modern game’s most influential midfielders well into his prime.

Rodri has been a pillar of Man City midfield

Man City have built much of their recent success around control in midfield, and Rodri’s presence has been indispensable.

The 2024 Ballon d’Or winner has evolved into the heartbeat of Guardiola’s system, offering positional intelligence, composure under pressure and an uncanny ability to dictate tempo.

Whether shielding the defense, breaking up opposition transitions or delivering decisive goals in crucial fixtures, Rodri has repeatedly demonstrated his value on football’s biggest stages.

Guardiola has publicly backed the Spanish midfielder

Speaking about Rodri’s future, Pep Guardiola was unequivocal in his praise. As reported by Sky Sports, he said:

“I would love desperately [for Rodri to stay]. Rodri is Rodri. As much age as he has, more wiser, more understanding of the game.

“There are players that are defined on the big stages, in the difficulties, and Rodri’s one of them, like Bernie [Bernardo Silva], like Ruben [Dias], like many of them that I had in the past. You cannot achieve what we achieved if you don’t have huge personalities.”

The comments show the extent to which Guardiola views Rodri not just as a tactical asset, but as a leader within the dressing room.

With Rodri approaching the latter half of his current contract, City are aware of the importance of early negotiations to avoid uncertainty.

With the summer transfer window approaching, Brown’s name is increasingly being mentioned alongside Europe’s elite.

Interest is widespread, and Frankfurt are now bracing for formal approaches, sources close to the agents industry have informed CaughtOffside.

Eintracht Frankfurt have benefited significantly from Brown’s evolution this season. His contributions have extended well beyond traditional defensive duties.

The German youngster has added goals and assists from the left flank, frequently overlapping with confidence and delivering quality into the penalty area.

The left-back has scored three goals and provided six assists this season for the German club.

His stamina allows him to maintain intensity throughout matches, while his positional awareness has improved markedly, a key factor in Frankfurt’s defensive stability.

Such performances have positioned him as one of the Bundesliga’s standout young defenders.

A cluster of top clubs are reportedly tracking Brown’s situation. Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool are understood to be particularly attentive, each assessing long-term solutions at left-back.

Beyond England, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Manchester City have also been linked, while Bayern Munich and Tottenham are monitoring developments.

The concentration of Premier League interest suggests England could offer the strongest financial proposition.

As per our sources, Man United and Arsenal could be leading the way for the young impressive defender.

Brown is contracted until 2030, giving Frankfurt theoretical leverage. However, reports indicate the club may be prepared to negotiate at around €65 million, slightly below earlier valuations.

Liverpool told “extraordinary offer” will be needed to sign Mo Salah replacement

Newcastle United have made their position clear, Anthony Gordon will not be leaving St James’ Park this summer unless an “extraordinary offer” is presented, according to TEAMtalk.

Amid growing interest from Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool, the Magpies are determined to retain one of their most influential attacking players.

Gordon’s performances this season, particularly in Europe, have elevated his reputation significantly, placing him firmly on the radar of England’s elite clubs.

Yet Newcastle’s public stance signals that any potential suitor will need to meet a premium valuation to even begin discussions.

Gordon has been impressive for Newcastle this season

Newcastle United have enjoyed a memorable Champions League run, and Gordon has been at the heart of it.

The England international has netted 10 goals in the competition, making him the second-highest scorer this season behind only Kylian Mbappé of Real Madrid.

Such output on Europe’s biggest stage has transformed perceptions of Gordon from promising winger to elite-level forward.

His pace, direct running and improved decision-making in the final third have made him a constant threat against top opposition.

Liverpool hold long term interest in the attacker

Among the Premier League clubs monitoring the situation, Liverpool are believed to be particularly attentive.

With uncertainty surrounding Mohamed Salah’s long-term future, Gordon is reportedly viewed internally as a potential successor capable of offering similar directness and attacking productivity from wide areas.

Manchester United and Arsenal are also credited with interest, as both clubs seek dynamic attackers who can contribute goals while pressing aggressively.

Despite the speculation, Newcastle are not actively looking to sell. Gordon remains under contract and is considered central to the club’s ambition of competing consistently at the highest level.

Report: Man United plotting double midfield swoop which could cost £142.5m

Manchester United are preparing for a transformative summer in midfield, with Borussia Dortmund’s Felix Nmecha and Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson emerging as key targets.

Reports in Germany, as relayed by TEAMtalk, indicate that United are weighing up a potential double swoop worth more than £140 million as part of a broader rebuild in the centre of the pitch.

With Casemiro set to depart at the end of the season and doubts lingering over the long-term suitability of current options, the Old Trafford hierarchy are prioritising reinforcements capable of injecting energy, athleticism and tactical balance.

Nmecha provides physicality and versatility

Man United are said to value Felix Nmecha at around £52.5 million. The Germany international has developed into a powerful, modern midfielder at Borussia Dortmund, combining physical presence with technical refinement.

Capable of operating as a box-to-box No.8 or dropping deeper as a No.6, Nmecha offers flexibility that United currently lack.

His ability to carry the ball through midfield and win duels under pressure aligns with the Premier League’s demands.

Anderson is a long term Man United target

Alongside Nmecha, Nottingham Forest midfielder Anderson is reportedly under serious consideration.

Valued at approximately £90 million, Anderson represents a different profile, one built on dynamism and progressive passing.

His capacity to break lines with incisive distribution and surge forward in transition makes him a complementary option to Nmecha’s physical attributes.

United are believed to see the pair as forming a balanced midfield partnership capable of sustaining both defensive solidity and attacking thrust.

The anticipated departure of Casemiro and questions surrounding the consistency of Manuel Ugarte have heightened the urgency of recruitment.

A double signing would signal clear intent to modernise United’s engine room, shifting toward a younger, more athletic core.

15 G/A in 14 games – The underrated star who could end Arsenal’s title pain

Arsenal have stuttered recently as they no longer necessarily look like the favourites to win the Premier League title, but could Kai Havertz still save their season?

The Germany international’s absence through injury has surely been one of the major frustrations for Mikel Arteta this season, as he can be so influential when fully fit and confident.

Not everyone was won over by Havertz when he first joined Arsenal after a slightly underwhelming spell at Chelsea, but by the end of a memorable 2023/24 campaign he very much showed his importance to the side.

Havertz has been limited to just three Premier League appearances so far in 2025/26, but if he can make it back for the title run-in, then perhaps there’s cause for optimism for panicking Gooners.

Kai Havertz’s incredible run that almost delivered Arsenal the title

For all the talk of Arsenal being ‘bottlers’ in the title race, that’s far from what happened when they fought to the very final day of the 2023/24 season.

Ultimately it was a mid-season blip that cost them against an almost-perfect Manchester City side, who just would not stop winning and eventually clinched the title by a mere two points.

Arsenal chased them all the way with a near-perfect run of their own, winning 16, drawing one, and losing one of their last 18 games.

Instrumental to that run was Havertz, who contributed nine goals and six assists in the final 14 fixtures, so averaging more than one goal contribution per game…

Of course, Arsenal would also benefit from other players getting back to the kind of form they showed then, with Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard not playing at their best this term, whereas they were superb week in, week out at the start of 2024.

It’s very clear, though, that in the few games Havertz has played this term, that he’s made players around him look better, and he’s so much more well-rounded than struggling summer signing Viktor Gyokeres.

When will Kai Havertz be back from injury?

The Athletic recently reported that Havertz would be set for a spell on the sidelines, but it doesn’t look like he’ll be out for too much longer.

As reported by the Evening Standard earlier today, Arteta has even suggested the 26-year-old could be in contention for Sunday’s North London Derby against Tottenham.

AFC might do well not to rush Havertz back into the starting XI straight away, but at the same time there’ll be a real desperation to bring him in and see if he can provide Arteta with the key to finally bringing the Premier League trophy back to the club for the first time in 22 years.

Tottenham and Newcastle in talks to rescue £400k-a-week star from Saudi nightmare

Former Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez has been linked with a move back to the Premier League.

According to TEAMtalk, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United are reportedly keen on the 26-year-old striker and have held talks with intermediaries about a potential move. The player currently earns £400,000 a week at Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal, and it remains to be seen whether any Premier League club is willing to pay that kind of money for him.

Barcelona are also monitoring Nunez.

Darwin Nunez to return?

The Uruguayan International might have to accept a major pay cut in order to see a return to the Premier League. He has struggled for regular opportunities at Al-Hilal recently since the arrival of Karim Benzema. The player has been sidelined, and he is no longer an important member of the first team. Leaving the Saudi Arabian club would be ideal for him.

It remains to be seen whether he is ready to return to the Premier League.

Nunez could be a useful signing

Despite not being a prolific goalscorer, he impressed during his time at Liverpool with his work rate, physicality, technical attributes, and link-up play. He could prove to be a very useful acquisition for Tottenham or Newcastle. Both teams could use more depth in the attack, and Nunez is versatile enough to operate on the flanks as well as centrally.

He is at the peak of his career, and he knows the league well. He could settle in quickly and make an immediate impact. The opportunity to play regularly in the Premier League once again would be exciting for him.

The striker has scored 9 goals in 24 appearances for the Saudi Arabian outfit, and there is no doubt he could be a quality player in the right team. It remains to be seen where he ends up eventually.

What Thomas Frank said about Palace in the past

The Danish manager was recently sacked after a run of poor results with Tottenham. Despite the poor spell with the North London club, he has shown his quality in the Premier League with Brentford, and he could prove to be a quality acquisition for the Eagles.

Frank has previously been vocal about his admiration for Crystal Palace. During his time at Brentford, he showered praise on the Eagles for their consistency despite limited resources and how difficult it is to face them, especially at Selhurst Park.

Frank said on Palace in 2021 via Sportsmole: “I need to praise Crystal Palace because they have been in the Premier League for the last eight years and have been very consistent in everything they do. They have a low budget and constantly produce good performances in the last eight years. It is very impressive what they have achieved.

“It is going to be very difficult. Selhurst Park is one of the most difficult places to go in the Premier League. They will be on top of us from the first minute and a very strong counter-attacking team.”

The opportunity to manage Crystal Palace will be quite exciting for Thomas Frank. They have been a consistent performer in the Premier League, and they have quality players at their disposal. It would be a great platform for the former Tottenham manager to prove his worth in the top flight once again. He will be desperate to get his managerial career back on track, and Palace could give him the opportunity he needs.

According to a report from SportsBoom, Aston Villa is interested in him and hopes to get the deal done in the summer. They need more quality in the defensive unit, and the 18-year-old would be a solid long-term acquisition for them.

Tyrone Mings is expected to depart in the summer, and they will need to replace them. Signing the talented young defender would be a wise decision. He could be a quality long-term investment for them, and he could develop into a key player with the right guidance.

The opportunity to move to the Premier League will be quite exciting for the 18-year-old. It would be a huge step up in his career, and he will look to prove himself at the highest level.

Nijstad has plenty of options ahead of him, and it will be interesting to see if he is willing to join the West Midlands club. He needs to carefully choose his next destination. He should join a club that offers regular opportunities. Sitting on the bench at a big club will not benefit him. Aston Villa might be able to provide him with the platform he needs. They have a quality team and a top-quality manager like Unai Emery. The Spaniard could play a key role in his development.

Paul Merson predicts relegation twist for ‘amazing’ Leeds ahead of Aston Villa clash

Leeds United will be up against Aston Villa in their next Premier League match, and it will be interesting to see if they can pick up a morale-boosting victory.

Merson predicts Leeds relegation fate

Former Arsenal star Paul Merson has now predicted that it will be a difficult outing for Leeds United against Aston Villa. He believes that the West Midlands club is not performing at the highest level, but they have managed to grind out results. He also believes that Leeds could be dragged into the relegation battle once again, especially if West Ham United can win their upcoming match.

He told Sportskeeda: “Aston Villa are not playing their best football at the moment. But they are still winning games, which is all they need to do at this stage of the season. This is a big game coming up for them.

“Leeds United have been amazing in recent weeks. 10 weeks ago, we would have had them as favourites to get relegated. But they are now six points clear of West Ham in 18th and have both Tottenham and Nottingham Forest below them.

“I believe Leeds are far from calling themselves safe, though. This is a big weekend in the relegation battle. If West Ham get a win at Bournemouth, I expect Leeds and a few other clubs to be dragged back into the battle to avoid the drop.”

Liverpool ready to test Leeds resolve with move for “top” player in summer

Can Leeds beat Villa?

It remains to be seen how the situation develops. Leeds have been quite impressive in recent weeks, and they will look to build on that. They have made themselves difficult to beat. A positive result against Aston Villa could give them a huge confidence boost.

Meanwhile, the West Midlands club is pushing for Champions League qualification, and they will be desperate for a win as well. It remains to be seen who comes out on top.

Thomas Frank to Palace?

Despite the poor spell with Tottenham, Frank has previously shown his quality in the Premier League with Brentford, and there is no doubt that he could be a quality acquisition for the Eagles. It remains to be seen whether the London club is willing to give him a chance.

Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan has responded to suggestions that Frank could take over at Crystal Palace.

Jordan said on talkSPORT: “Yeah, possibly. A Palace job might be a reasonable job, but Palace fans might say, ‘You catapulted Tottenham into a relegation battle, we don’t want any of that.’

“But there must be a raft of loads of other reasons behind it. But Thomas Frank’s next opportunity will be a lesser club.”

Newcastle star brutally slammed by national team hero, urged to switch careers

Former Italian international Antonio Cassano has taken a swipe at multiple Italian internationals, including the Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali.

Cassano on Sandro Tonali

He went on to explain that Tonali is a workhorse and the Italian national team needs more players with genuine quality. Cassano may be trying to make the point that the Italian national team is now lacking technically gifted players compared to the past.

“The only champion is Donnarumma. Pio Esposito? He’s twenty years old and we consider him a rookie: Totti and I made our debuts at seventeen.

“He should do athletics. Tonali plays in the Premier League and never gets it. He runs and runs… he should do athletics. He and Barella are poor. Barella used to run, but now he doesn’t. We need quality.”

Tonali has been a star for Newcastle

Tonali has been a key player for Newcastle since joining the club, and he has recently been linked with Real Madrid. He has established himself as one of the first names on the team sheet, and he has done well in the Premier League for them. His work rate and defensive contribution have been invaluable for the English club.

It will be interesting to see if he can silence the critics with his performance for the Italian national team as well. He is entering the peak years of his career, and he will look to play his best football in the coming seasons.

Meanwhile, it will be interesting to see if Italy can secure their place in the FIFA World Cup 2026. The Azzurri will face Northern Ireland in the play-offs before a potential final against Wales or Bosnia and Herzegovina. Tonali will have the opportunity to guide his country to the mega event with strong performances in the upcoming matches.

Tonali is also on the radar of Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal.

Can Liverpool sign Arda Guler?

It will be interesting to see if Liverpool comes forward with an offer to sign the player. The 20-year-old is a tremendous talent with a bright future, and he has all the attributes to become a star. He can operate both centrally and on the flanks. He will add goals and creativity to the Liverpool attack.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid will demand €90 million for the Turkish international, and it remains to be seen whether Liverpool is prepared to pay that price. It is a lot of money for a young player, and Liverpool also need to improve other areas of their squad.

Does Liverpool need Guler?

There is no doubt that Guler is a promising young player with a bright future, and he might ultimately justify the investment in the long term. However, Liverpool must prioritise the areas in desperate need of strengthening first. They should look to invest in a quality central defender, a defensive midfielder, and a winger.

They have players like Florian Wirtz and Alexis Mac Allister who can operate as attacking midfielders and create opportunities for their teammates in the final third. While there is no doubt that Guler is a talented player, he is not a priority for Liverpool.

Having said that, the player has registered three goals and 12 assists in all competitions this season.

Man United could use Hayden Hackney

Hackney will add creativity and drive in the middle of the park. The opportunity to play for Manchester United will be hard to turn down for him, and he will hope to complete the transfer in the summer. It remains to be seen whether Middlesbrough can secure promotion to the Premier League and convince their players to stay.

Pete O’Rourke revealed on Football Insider: “Middlesbrough won’t want to lose Hackney. If they were to win promotion to the Premier League, then they would be quite hopeful that they could keep hold of the England Under-21 midfielder.

“If they don’t win promotion to the Premier League, it’s going to be a real hard battle to keep hold of him. You’ll have Leeds, a lot of other Premier League clubs, (such as) Everton, like Hayden Hackney.

“There’s even been talk that Manchester United could be interested…Fulham are admirers of the player as well.”

Lucas Bergvall to move on?

Elite talents like Bergvall will want to compete at the highest level, and Chelsea could provide him with an exit route. They are well-positioned to secure Champions League qualification for the next season, and they could be an attractive destination for the young playmaker.

Meanwhile, Tottenham have no plans to sanction his departure yet. It will be interesting to see if Chelsea tests their resolve with an attractive offer at the end of the season.

Pete O’Rourke revealed on Football Insider: “Well look, if Tottenham are out of Europe and struggling again, they’re going to find themselves more more susceptible to offers for their best players and Bergvall definitely comes in to that reckoning.

“He’s a highly-regarded player and he’s done well since he arrived at Tottenham.

“He’s highly regarded at Tottenham, he’s under a long contract until 2031 and there was no surprise that they rebuffed those inquiries from Chelsea and Villa in the January window.

“There was no change they were going to let him leave then. Tottenham see him as a key part of their long-term future at the club.

“But if Spurs continue to struggle and maybe miss out on European competition, you might have other clubs ready to test their resolve to keep hold of their best players including Bergvall.”

Can Spurs turn it around?

For now, Spurs should focus on getting their season back on track with improved performances. They have brought in a new manager, and it will be interesting to see if Igor Tudor can turn things around.

They will need to regularly complete at the highest level to retain top-quality players like Bergvall. He has already shown his quality in the Premier League, and he is a young player with a lot of potential. He could develop into a future star. He will want to play for the biggest clubs in the world and win the major trophies.

The opportunity to join Liverpool will be exciting for him. It would be a major step up in his career, and he would get to test himself at the highest level. He will also look to fight for major trophies with the Premier League champions. He has been hailed as a “top, top centre-half”.

Bijol is at the peak of his career, and this could be the right time for him to take on a new challenge. It will be interesting to see if Leeds are prepared to let him leave. He’s a key player for them, and his departure would be a major blow.

Liverpool could use Bijol

Meanwhile, Liverpool have had a disappointing season, and there is no guarantee they will secure Champions League qualification for next season. They will look to bounce back strongly next season, and they need to plug the gaps in their squad. Adding more depth to the defensive unit should be a priority for them.

Signing the 27-year-old could be a wise decision. He is well settled in the Premier League, and he could make an immediate impact.

Tottenham leading preliminary negotiations to sign Premier League flop

Tottenham are reportedly leading the preliminary negotiations for the potential transfer of Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson.

The Senegal international has struggled in recent times, failing to make much of an impact at Stamford Bridge, or during his loan spell with Bayern Munich this season.

Jackson has just five goals in 22 appearances for Bayern, following on from a total of 30 goals in 81 games across two seasons at Chelsea.

Still, it seems there is a lot of interest in Jackson at the moment, with Fichajes reporting that Spurs are leading the race, while the 24-year-old also has interest from Atletico Madrid.

What next for Nicolas Jackson after difficult Bayern loan spell?

There will inevitably be a lot of speculation over Jackson’s future in the weeks and months ahead as Chelsea will surely be selling the player after his lack of impact.

We’ve also seen Aston Villa linked with Jackson by TEAMtalk, and there’ll probably be a few other clubs taking a look at him in the near future.

Even if Jackson doesn’t quite look good enough to play for big clubs like Chelsea or Bayern, he could surely still have a decent career ahead of him at more mid-table sides like Tottenham or Villa.

Could Nicolas Jackson be a good signing for Tottenham?

Goals by Spurs strikers this season Games Goals
Richarlison 31 8
Dominic Solanke 11 4
Mathys Tel 24 3
Randal Kolo Muani 27 3

There probably won’t be any final decisions just yet, but Tottenham fans will no doubt be interested to hear that their club is currently making the most progress.

It’s been a difficult season for the north London side, with a striker surely a priority for the summer to replace flops like Randal Kolo Muani and Mathys Tel.

Those two have not done enough for THFC, while Dominic Solanke has had problems with injuries, so even if Jackson isn’t perfect, it’s easy to imagine he could have an impact there.

€70m-plus-player bid prepared which threatens to derail Arsenal’s transfer plans

Arsenal could reportedly be facing a very real threat to their hopes of signing Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez as Barcelona plan an offer.

Alvarez has been linked with Arsenal by ESPN in recent times, but it seems the Gunners are not alone in targeting the Argentina international.

It seems Barcelona could also strongly enter the conversation by offering €70m plus a player or even multiple players to Atletico Madrid.

That’s according to a report from Fichajes, which states that Barca could be ready to use Marc Casado, Ansu Fati, or Eric Garcia as part of any deal for Alvarez.

Julian Alvarez transfer fee looks unaffordable

Barcelona’s desire to use players as part of the deal is due to Atletico’s crazily high asking price of around €200m.

Paying a fee like that looks a lot harder in the modern era of Financial Fair Play regulations, and it’s debatable if the former Manchester City man is even worth that.

The 26-year-old has a decent record of 42 goals in 92 games for Diego Simeone’s side, but he’s currently on a really poor run, scoring just two goals in his club’s last 16 games in La Liga and the Champions League.

One imagines this is just a blip and that Alvarez could be an upgrade on someone like Viktor Gyokeres at Arsenal, but he’s not looking anywhere near a €200m player right now.

Will Julian Alvarez pick Arsenal or Barcelona?

It’s not yet clear if Alvarez will definitely be moving this summer, but if he does have to choose between Arsenal and Barcelona, it would be interesting to see his choice.

Mikel Arteta’s side look promising but have had some recent issues, so it’s not clear if it’s something that’s ever truly going to develop into a winning project.

Barcelona have a far better recent history when it comes to winning major trophies, so it could be that that would be more tempting for him.

Alvarez had a good spell as a squad player at Man City and might fancy another stint in England, but he’s also definitely performed better in Spain, so it could make more sense for him to stay there.

From Spain: Barcelona eye surprise move for Liverpool flop who’s seeking another transfer

Barcelona are reportedly exploring the market for strikers, with former Liverpool front-man Darwin Nunez emerging as one surprise target.

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Nunez is being considered by Barca as he’s supposedly tempted to return to Europe after a spell with Saudi Pro League club Al Hilal.

The Uruguay international only left Liverpool for Al Hilal just over six months ago, and he’s not exactly set the world alight at his new club either.

DOWNLOAD THE OFFICIAL CAUGHTOFFSIDE APP FOR ALL THE LATEST & BREAKING UPDATES – STRAIGHT TO YOUR PHONE! ON APPLE & GOOGLE PLAY

After a disappointing 40 goals in 143 games for Liverpool, Nunez was allowed to leave, and he’s only managed 9 in 24 appearances for Al Hilal.

Given the lower level of football in Saudi Arabia, this doesn’t exactly bode well for Nunez as he looks for a move back to a higher level.

Fichajes’ report suggests Nunez is not necessarily a priority for Barcelona, even if he has qualities they like.

It could be that the 26-year-old would prove a useful squad player at the Nou Camp, but fans would probably rather see the club push the boat out for a more ambitious signing.

Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane is also mentioned in the report, as is Juventus’ Dusan Vlahovic.

This could be the problem for the Catalan giants – as much as Kane would obviously be the dream signing, he’s not realistic due to the money involved, and his importance to Bayern.

That means less glamorous names like Nunez and Vlahovic need to be considered as alternatives as well.

It will be interesting to see how this saga develops in the weeks and months ahead, but it could be that Nunez will get another chance to show what he can do at the highest level despite his struggles at Liverpool.

However, we can’t imagine there’ll be too many Reds fans keeping an eye on this saga and wondering if their club should get involved in trying to bring Nunez back.

€35m deal possible: Liverpool have found their Ibrahima Konate replacement

Liverpool are reportedly eyeing a potential transfer move for former Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori as he could be available for around €35m.

The AC Milan centre-back has previously been estimated as being worth almost double that, but a Fichajes report linking him with Liverpool suggests his value has dropped.

This could give the Reds an opportunity to strike a bargain deal for Tomori, who could be a smart addition to Arne Slot’s squad as Ibrahima Konate will probably soon need replacing.

Konate is just a few months away from the end of his Liverpool contract, so the club need to be prepared for the very real possibility of the France international leaving on a free transfer.

Fikayo Tomori transfer: Liverpool could face competition for AC Milan defender

Fichajes also name Tottenham and Aston Villa as potential suitors for Tomori, who could well be keen to come back to the Premier League.

The 28-year-old has performed well since his move from Chelsea to Milan, but it could be that playing abroad has slightly hampered his chances of breaking into the England squad.

Tomori may well feel that he’s now running out of time to impress England managers, so coming back and playing for a Premier League club could be ideal for him.

Liverpool seem keen, but he’d likely also do well to end up at one of Spurs or Villa.

Liverpool preparing to lose Ibrahima Konate

The Athletic have recently reported that there has been no breakthrough in contract talks between LFC and Konate.

The former RB Leipzig man has been a key player at Anfield in the last few years, and he’ll likely have a host of big clubs after him if he becomes a free agent.

Real Madrid have been strongly linked with Konate in the past, while there’s also been talk of interest from the likes of Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Paris Saint-Germain.

Tomori is not quite in Konate’s league, but could be a decent option to come in on the cheap and help Slot replace the Frenchman.

Report: Man United favour £200m double transfer as solution for problem position

Manchester United have been given some advice on transfer targets in midfield, but reportedly favour £200m duo Carlos Baleba and Elliot Anderson.

The Red Devils have Casemiro coming towards the end of his contract, while they’ll also surely look for an upgrade on the unconvincing Manuel Ugarte.

Baleba has shone for Brighton, while Anderson’s impressive form for Nottingham Forest means both players are now Man Utd’s preferred targets, though they’d cost a combined £200m, according to TEAMtalk.

This is despite the report also noting that former United striker Louis Saha has advised his old club to look at midfielders like Newcastle stars Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali.

Baleba has been linked with United multiple times, including a recent Sun report claiming that they’re confident of landing the talented young Cameroon international.

Our understanding is also that Anderson is firmly in United’s plans, though they face strong competition from rivals Manchester City for the England international’s signature.

Another name to watch could be Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton, who has been linked with MUFC by Sky Sports.

See below for how Baleba, Anderson and Wharton’s stats this season compare, via DataMB…

Man United given transfer advice by Louis Saha

Discussing who United could bring in to replace Casemiro, Saha made it clear just how highly he rates Guimaraes and Tonali, whilst also mentioning Wharton.

“United need aggressiveness and someone that will dictate the midfield. I see someone more like Tonali or Guimaraes, who are two monsters in midfield,” the Frenchman said, as quoted by TEAMtalk.

“With players like [Kobbie] Mainoo, you need someone alongside him who has the experience and vision to manage the transition when Casemiro goes. You need that experience, directness and divisiveness. It’ll be hard to replace.

“If you bring in a young player, it’s a disruption. It’s great for the future, but you need experience. If Casemiro goes, I think a combination of Wharton and Guimaraes would be great because Guimaraes is more of a captain.”

Michael Carrick wants Man United job but another PL club could be more likely

Manchester United interim manager Michael Carrick is reportedly keen to keep the job permanently, but he’s not currently a frontrunner.

The former Red Devils midfielder has impressed during his stint taking temporary charge of the club, but he could end up in another Premier League job instead.

According to TEAMtalk, United sources are playing down the prospect of Carrick being one of the main contenders to land the permanent manager’s job, while Tottenham have been linked with the 44-year-old.

Carrick has four wins and one draw from his first five games in charge of Man Utd, but even if he’s given the team a bit of a lift since replacing Ruben Amorim, one imagines the club will need to see more over a longer period of time before being convinced about gambling on a relatively inexperienced candidate.

Does Michael Carrick have what it takes for the Manchester United job?

Carrick previously impressed during his time as Middlesbrough manager, but his only Premier League experience has come in limited games in charge of United.

MUFC can’t really afford to be taking that kind of risk at the moment, barring some absolutely incredible results and performances between now and May.

Tottenham might be a better job for Carrick at this stage of his career, with the north Londoners in need of a shake-up, without the same high-level expectations that would exist at United.

Who could be next Manchester United manager?

United have gone through a long list of names since Sir Alex Ferguson retired as manager back in 2013.

Experienced winners like Jose Mourinho and Louis van Gaal struggled at Old Trafford, as did more up-and-coming coaches like Amorim, Erik ten Hag, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

There will be some intriguing options available in the months ahead, with the likes of Xabi Alonso and Roberto De Zerbi currently out of work, but United would arguably still do well to keep Carrick in mind due to his strong start as interim and his connection to the club from his playing days.

Premier League club exploring deal to sign 19-year-old Arsenal ace this summer

Nottingham Forest are reportedly eyeing Arsenal’s young goalkeeper Tommy Setford as a summer transfer window target.

Initial talks are said to have taken place through intermediaries, with Forest also recently scouting Setford, according to Football Transfers.

Setford has only played two games for the Arsenal first-team, but the 19-year-old has long looked like a big prospect ever since catching the eye at former club Ajax.

The Netherlands-born England Under-21 international could do well to think about his future this summer, as he’s currently third choice in goal for the Gunners behind David Raya and Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Will Tommy Setford seal Nottingham Forest transfer?

Setford could have a big future in the game, but it currently looks like it will be hard for him to fulfil his potential at Arsenal.

With Raya and Kepa ahead of him in the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium, it’s hard to see where first-team opportunities are going to come from for the young shot-stopper.

Setford could therefore do well to think about joining a club like Forest, who would probably be able to give him a better guarantee of regular minutes.

It will be interesting to see how this develops, but Arsenal might well favour a loan for Setford for the time being, as they won’t want to risk letting this talented young ‘keeper go, only for him to then develop into an even better player and strengthen another Premier League club.

Football Transfers do suggest Forest could be open to a loan deal, so in many ways this seems to be shaping up into a deal that suits all parties involved.

Sources: Liverpool sense “last major opportunity” to get defender deal done

Liverpool defender Joe Gomez is at something of a career crossroads ahead of this summer, with AC Milan leading the race for his signature.

As first reported here for the Daily Briefing, it looks increasingly likely that Liverpool could cash in on Gomez this summer, with the England international set to have a few big-name suitors.

Gomez will have just a year left on his contract at the end of this season, and the timing looks right for all parties to go their separate ways.

Some Liverpool fans might be unsure about letting this useful squad player go, but it could also be time to make a few changes to Arne Slot’s back line.

Joe Gomez looks set to leave Liverpool

One well-placed source provided some insight into why Liverpool look ready to let Gomez go as they prepare to reshuffle their defensive options this summer.

“Liverpool are keen to reshape their back line with younger, specialist profiles,” one source told me. “Gomez is no longer seen as indispensable but rather as a valuable market asset. With his contract expiring in 2027, the summer of 2026 is viewed as the last major opportunity for the club to secure a significant transfer fee.”

Although Gomez has been content with his squad player role at Liverpool down the years, it seems he’s now more open to a new challenge as well.

And despite never really being an automatic starter for the Reds, there is great admiration for Gomez throughout the game, with some big names monitoring his situation.

The clubs eyeing Joe Gomez ahead of this summer

My understanding is that, while there have not been any concrete talks with any clubs yet, Gomez can count Bayern Munich and AC Milan as among his admirers.

Milan are considered by most sources to be the “frontrunners” for the 28-year-old, while Bayern would probably only pursue him as an alternative if other targets don’t work out.

Other options for Gomez could include West Ham and Brighton, who are both looking for defenders with Premier League experience this summer, though the Hammers will obviously struggle to lure a player of this calibre if they’re relegated to the Championship.

Gomez’s salary demands are understood to be in the region of £4.5m a year, and that could also be significant as it remains to be seen which clubs would be willing to pay quite that much for a player with his injury record.

Talks held: Arsenal step up efforts to beat Man Utd to transfer of €80m star with “Ronaldinho-vibes”

Arsenal have reportedly held initial talks over a potential transfer move for AC Milan forward Rafael Leao ahead of the summer.

The Portugal international is a long-term target for the Gunners, and they now seem to be stepping up their pursuit of this potential €80m deal, according to Football Transfers.

Leao is also on the radar of Manchester United, according to the report, but it could be that Arsenal are leading the race.

It certainly sounds like things are advancing, with AFC chief Andrea Berta said to have already had face-to-face discussions with Leao’s representatives.

Rafael Leao transfer could make perfect sense for Arsenal

Leao’s numbers this season aren’t exactly spectacular, with eight goals and two assists in Serie A so far, but they also don’t tell the whole story.

Previously described as having “Ronaldinho-vibes” by Owen Hargreaves via TNT Sports, Leao is an entertaining player with great skill and flair who could give Mikel Arteta’s side a new dimension in attack.

Leandro Trossard is not getting any younger, while Gabriel Martinelli has been a tad inconsistent again this season, so there’s surely room for Leao to come in as an upgrade on that left-hand side of Arteta’s front three.

Man United also need Rafael Leao

United’s interest in Leao also makes sense, with the 26-year-old perhaps a better option than Matheus Cunha in the club’s front three.

Bryan Mbeumo has performed well since joining MUFC from Brentford last summer, but Cunha’s role has been less clear, and perhaps a more out-and-out wide player is needed.

If United could beat Arsenal to Leao then that would be great business, though for now it perhaps seems that a move to the Emirates Stadium is more likely.

Arsenal are also far more likely to be able to offer Champions League football next season, with United competing for a top four spot but not yet safe from the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool close behind them.

23-year-old reveals he would “love” to play for “great coach” Arteta at Arsenal

The USA international shone at PSV before moving to Leverkusen last summer, and it will be interesting to see where his career takes him next.

Speaking in the video clip below, Tillman made it clear he’s a big admirer of the Gunners, praising their system under “great coach” Arteta and saying he could fit in well at the Emirates Stadium…

?? Malik Tillman (Bayer Leverkusen, 23): “If there is one club I would love to play for, it is Arsenal. They have a great coach, a great system, I think I would fit in. They score a lot of set-piece goals, but in the Champions League they’re different.” ??pic.twitter.com/Jy243ozlhM

— DailyAFC (@DailyAFC) February 20, 2026

“It’s a tough one,” he said when asked about his favourite team in the Premier League.

“I don’t have a favourite team, but if there was one club I would love to play for it’s Arsenal.”

He added: “The way they play now, they have a great coach, they have a great system, and I think I would fit into it.”

Could Malik Tillman be a transfer target for Arsenal?

It’s always nice for clubs to hear players are keen to play for them, but that doesn’t mean Tillman will automatically be on Arteta’s list for this summer.

The 23-year-old still looks like he has some way to develop before putting himself in the conversation for such a big move, even if he has shown some promise in his career so far.

Malik Tillman celebrates a goal for Bayer Leverkusen

For now, though, Tillman probably needs to play more regularly and perform more consistently for Leverkusen, with just 17 appearances and four goals in the Bundesliga so far this term.

Malik Tillman’s past links with Premier League clubs

Tillman has been on the radar of big English clubs before, though, so perhaps we could be seeing him over here at some point.

Sky Germany previously linked him as someone Manchester United, Tottenham, and Aston Villa were looking at, though obviously this never led to anything more concrete.

Tillman has also been linked with Chelsea by Simon Phillips, and it makes sense that he’d have been looked at by the Blues when he was a bit younger.

Exit-bound Man Utd star set to have 3 transfer offers, has already visited potential destination

According to the Sun, one option for Casemiro could be Inter Miami, with the 33-year-old even making a recent visit to Florida to get a feel for the area.

The report also claims Casemiro has interest from Porto and Sao Paulo, with the latter supposedly prepared to offer him a two-year deal.

Casemiro can leave Manchester United with his head held high

Casemiro has had a slightly mixed spell at Old Trafford, but he has improved a lot since suffering a major slump in form a couple of years ago.

The former Real Madrid man probably hasn’t quite lived up to expectations overall, having arrived in the Premier League quite late in his career, but he’s done well to turn things around and improve his reputation with the club’s fans.

Overall, Casemiro has enjoyed a legendary career at the highest level, having been a star player for Real Madrid for many years and helping himself to five Champions League titles and three La Liga titles while he was at the Bernabeu.

Manchester United need to replace Casemiro

Even if MUFC probably needed to strengthen in midfield anyway, the departure of Casemiro makes it an urgent priority.

One name being linked as a potential defensive midfield target is Aston Villa’s Amadou Onana, as per Football Insider, while other big names like Elliot Anderson and Adam Wharton have previously been linked by the Athletic.

United fans will hope that Casemiro announcing his exit early will have helped the club plan for replacing him in midfield.

Report confirms Chelsea could make surprise transfer decision as club targeting deal

Chelsea striker Liam Delap can reportedly leave the club this summer as Everton are making him one of their top targets.

We reported earlier this week that Delap’s Chelsea future was in serious doubt, with Manchester United understood to be one of his suitors.

Everton were also one of the clubs mentioned to us, and this has now been backed up further as the Toffees have been linked with Delap in a report from Football Insider.

It could be that Delap’s time at Stamford Bridge is going to be short-lived after a lack of impact for the Blues, with the 23-year-old only managing three goals in 30 games in all competitions since he joined.

Liam Delap transfer looks like it’s failed for Chelsea

Chelsea sent Nicolas Jackson out on loan to Bayern Munich last summer after his poor form, and signed two new strikers in the form of Delap and Joao Pedro.

While Pedro has performed pretty well so far, it’s fair to say Delap has looked like a real disappointment, so it’s perhaps not surprising that CFC are going to look at that position again this summer.

Delap might have looked impressive at former club Ipswich Town, but it seems this big move has come too soon for him, and Chelsea surely need to be aiming higher.

Can Liam Delap revive his Premier League career?

Still, a move to a club like Everton could be ideal to help Delap get his career back on track, as he’d surely play regularly there and without the same kind of scrutiny that’s on him at Chelsea.

The interest from Man Utd could also be interesting to watch, as it’s our understanding that the Red Devils rated the England Under-21 international very highly when they also tried to sign him from Ipswich last summer.

Delap may have flopped at Chelsea but it could still be that it won’t be his last chance at a big six club.

Serie A star thought he was set for West Ham transfer until surprise decision

West Ham United reportedly had some interest in Juventus striker Jonathan David in January, but ultimately took too long and focused on other targets instead.

The Canada international was a prolific scorer at former club Lille but hasn’t made the smoothest start to life at Juve, scoring only seven goals in 34 games so far.

West Ham could have been a good option for David, and at one point he thought he was on his way to the Hammers, according to Claret and Hugh.

Still, it seems there was some uncertainty about whether or not David suited the team’s style of play, and it led to the deal collapsing.

What sources have said about West Ham’s interest in Jonathan David

Claret and Hugh’s report quotes a source as explaining precisely what went on between WHUFC and David in January.

“He [David] thought he was joining West Ham. We spoke to them in December but they took too long to decide and then signed other players,” their source said.

“The manager didn’t think he suited the style, but Promise was confident he would score goals.”

Will West Ham regret Jonathan David transfer decision?

It’s been a difficult season for West Ham, who remain in a battle to escape relegation from the Premier League.

David could surely have been a useful signing to give them more of a goal threat up front, but it’s also still true that it would have been a gamble with no guarantees.

Even if the 26-year-old was a consistent goal-scorer during his time in Ligue 1, he’s clearly struggled since making the step up to Serie A, and the Premier League would only be a bigger challenge for him.

Manchester United could reportedly be set to move again for Amadou Onana after previously trying to sign him before he joined Aston Villa.

The Belgium international has had an impressive Premier League career with both Everton and Villa, and it’s not surprising to see him continuing to attract interest from a big name like Man Utd.

The Red Devils could do with strengthening in midfield this summer, with Onana looking like a potentially ideal long-term replacement for the ageing Casemiro, whose contract will be expiring at the end of the season.

United also need an upgrade on the unconvincing Manuel Ugarte, and Pete O’Rourke has reported on Football Insider‘s podcast that Onana could be their man.

Manchester United linked again with Amadou Onana transfer move

Discussing United’s interest in Onana, O’Rourke said: “Yeah, it’ll be an interesting one. Obviously, United did make a late move to try and sign Onana from Everton before he made that big £50m move to Aston Villa.

“I think right now, I’m sure United have continued to keep tabs on Onana, who has become a key man for Unai Emery’s side.

“Casemiro is leaving at the end of season. There’s doubts over Ugarte’s future as well.

“So look, they’re going to need strengthening in that midfield position.

“Onana is a player that they’ve had previous interest in. So I think it’s one of those where he probably still remains on the list, but he’s probably not at the top of it.”

Could Onana be a good signing for Man United?

Onana being on United’s list, but not at the top of it, as O’Rourke says, sounds about right.

MUFC will surely have a few names on their radar, and Onana could be well worth considering if some other potential signings don’t work out.

As you can see below, Onana’s stats don’t really stand out in comparison to Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson and Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton

Both these talented young English midfielders have been linked with United by the Athletic and others in recent times, and are probably the best talents on the market in that position right now.

Still, that also means there’ll surely be plenty of competition to sign them this summer, so it makes sense for United to keep someone like Onana in mind as a very decent alternative.

The 24-year-old is also quite a different profile due to his defensive qualities, so there might even be scope for signing him and one of the others as they could complement each other well as a midfield partnership.

Arsenal are fighting for the Premier League title, but they have been quite mediocre in recent weeks.

They have dropped several points in recent weeks (only two wins from the last seven league matches), and naturally, there has been speculation surrounding their ability to get over the line. They recently dropped points against bottom-placed Wolves, and there have been claims that Arsenal could bottle the league title once again.

Mikel Arteta on the tag of bottlers

When asked about the potential tag of bottlers ahead of the pre-match press conference, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta refused to entertain the question, saying the word is not part of his vocabulary and that he is not concerned about the tag.

Mikel Arteta said on the tag of bottlers: “It’s not part of my vocabulary, and I don’t see it like this because I don’t think anybody wants to do that, as an intention, but I wouldn’t use that word, but that’s, that’s me.”

It will be interesting to see if Arsenal can bounce back strongly and put together a winning run now. They have a formidable team, and they have done quite well overall. They need to be more consistent if they want to win the league title. Manchester City are breathing down their necks, and they have extensive experience winning league titles. Arsenal must look to get their act together if they want to beat Manchester City and Pep Guardiola to the title.

Liverpool and Manchester City have not been at their best this season. This is a golden opportunity for Arsenal to win the league title and return to the top of English football. They must not slip up at this stage of the season. They have come close in recent seasons, and they will look to finally get over the line.

James Trafford wants Villa move

However, a report from The Shields Gazette claims that a player would prefer to join the West Midlands club instead. It will be interesting to see if Aston Villa can wrap up the move in the summer. They could use a quality goalkeeper, especially with Emiliano Martinez being linked with an exit. The South American is expected to depart in the summer, and Trafford could be the ideal replacement.

He has shown his quality with Burnley in the past, and there is no doubt that he is good enough to start for Aston Villa. He could help them improve. Regular football at the West Midlands club could help the goalkeeper fulfil his potential as well.

Aston Villa are pushing for Champions League qualification, and they will be an attractive destination for players if they manage to finish in the top four. Newcastle have an ambitious project as well, but they are unlikely to compete in the Champions League next season. It is no surprise that the goalkeeper wants to join Aston Villa instead. It will be interesting to see how the situation develops.

Trafford will have to compete with Marco Bizot for the starting spot at the West Midlands club. At Newcastle, he would have to compete with Aaron Ramsdale. The move to Aston Villa certainly makes a lot more sense for the player.
