DJI Neo 2 can now be controlled from your watch

12 December 2025 at 09:42

Launching your drone straight from your watch might sound like a gimmick at first, but it turns out to be genuinely useful in certain situations. DJI clearly saw the potential and has now made it a real feature for Neo 2 owners.

A new firmware update, v01.00.0500, is rolling out now and adds full Apple Watch control — including a live camera feed — without needing to pull out your phone or the dedicated remote.

Once you update the DJI Fly app to version 1.19.4, compatible Apple Watch models (Series 8, Ultra 2, Ultra 3, and newer) can take off, change flight modes, capture photos or videos, and even show exactly what the drone sees in real time. The feature is aimed at runners, cyclists, and hikers who want to travel light, but early users are already trying it in more creative ways.

Voice controls also get an upgrade. After granting the app microphone access, you can speak flight commands or use the watch as a remote mic to record commentary or ambient sound directly into your footage — a neat touch for vloggers or anyone who wants to narrate hands-free.

There is one quirk, though: the wrist-based live feed doesn’t always play nicely with Apple’s raise-to-wake behavior. Lowering your wrist can interrupt the feed, which makes sense given the Apple Watch’s power-saving habits, but it’s something flyers will need to get used to.

The Neo 2 itself only launched at the end of October, pitched as a super-light travel drone for everyday use. It weighs just 151 grams and carries a 1/2-inch 12-megapixel sensor capable of 4K 60 fps landscape video, 4K 100 fps slow motion, and 2.7K vertical shooting, with a quoted 19-minute flight time. Prices start at 1,499 yuan, which works out to roughly US$212 or ₹19,195.

With the latest firmware, DJI hasn’t just added a convenience feature — it’s made the drone feel almost wearable. For runners after cinematic follow shots, cyclists wanting POV footage, or anyone who hates juggling extra gear, the Neo 2 just became a lot more appealing.
