Leverkusen's Arthur out for weeks with torn ankle ligament

Bayer Leverkusen have lost a second right back within a week when the club said on Sunday that Arthur will be sidelined for weeks with an ankle ligament tear.
Arthur sustained the injury away from the ball during Saturday's 1-1 Bundesliga draw with Mainz. He was taken away on a stretcher and examinations in hospital revealed the nature of the injury.
Leverkusen said "a decision on whether to operate on Arthur will be made soon" and that he will then complete his rehabilitation at club facilities.
While the club said he would miss "the next few weeks" Kicker sports magazine spoke of a season ending injury.
It is a second severe injury for the 22-year-old Brazilian who shortly after his arrival in 2023 missed five months with a muscle injury.
His injury comes a week after another right back, Lucas Vazquez, suffered a calf injury. Teenager Axel Tape came on for Arthur against Mainz.
Leverkusen in sixth are aiming for a top four finish in the Bundesliga, face Arsenal in the Champions League last 16 later in March and Bayern Munich in the German Cup semi-finals in April.
