Mohamed Salah to be offered perfect transfer opportunity to keep him in Europe

26 March 2026 at 18:45

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah is reportedly emerging as a transfer target for Barcelona as he’s set to become a free agent this summer.

The Egypt international has announced he will be ending his time at Anfield once this current season comes to a close, and it’s not yet clear where he could go next.

Our sources have indicated that the Saudi Pro League or MLS are likely options for Salah, but it could be that he’ll still end up staying in Europe.

That’s according to Fichajes, who report that Barcelona are tempted to swoop for Salah, with manager Hansi Flick already planning a role for him in his team.

Despite Salah’s dip in form this season, it may be that the 33-year-old still has it in him to perform at the highest level.

Barcelona transfer could be ideal next step for Mohamed Salah

We’ve seen the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi continuing to play into their late 30s at top European clubs, and it looks like Salah could have it in him to do the same.

However, there’s no doubt that that would be slightly easier for him if he swapped the fast and furious Premier League for the slightly slower-paced and technical La Liga.

Salah could in fact come in and take the place of Robert Lewandowski up front in this Barca side, with the Poland international set to turn 38 later this year.

Lewandowski has been able to perform at a high level during his four years in Spain, so perhaps Salah can now step into that role and aim for something similar.

This story comes as Jamie Carragher speculated that Salah might still be eyeing one more European club before thinking about somewhere like the Saudi Pro League or MLS.

Fabrizio Romano confirms majorly worrying Manchester City transfer update

26 March 2026 at 18:16

Manchester City midfielder Rodri has opened the door to a potential transfer to Real Madrid, as confirmed by Fabrizio Romano.

Speaking on Instagram, Romano made it clear that Rodri has still not agreed a new contract with Man City, putting his future into some doubt.

This follows the Spain international himself speaking out and hinting that he’d be open to playing for Real Madrid at some point in the future.

It remains to be seen if Los Blancos are actually keen to sign Rodri, but he’s one of the best in the world in his position on his day, and it’s easy to imagine he might be keen to return to La Liga.

Rodri open to Real Madrid transfer despite spell at Atletico Madrid

Rodri has made it clear that he’d have no issue playing for Real despite also having a spell with their rivals Atletico earlier in his career.

The 29-year-old started his senior career at Villarreal, but spent time in Atleti’s academy and also spent one season there as a professional before moving to the Etihad Stadium in 2019.

Discussing his City future, as quoted by Sky Sports, Rodri said: ““I have a year left on my contract. There will come a point when we’ll have to sit down and talk.

“There are other players who’ve taken that path (between both Madrid clubs). Not directly, but over time. You can’t turn down the best clubs in the world.

“I would like to return (to LaLiga) yes, of course. For me, LaLiga is where I started. I still follow it, not as much as before, but I still follow it. But right now, I am very happy here (in the Premier League).”

Real Madrid are expected to let Eduardo Camavinga leave this summer, so that could mean they’ll be in the market for someone like Rodri to take his place in midfield.

From Italy: Man United & Liverpool studying top CB ahead of potential transfer

26 March 2026 at 17:56

Manchester United and Liverpool have reportedly had scouts in Italy to study in-form Juventus central defender Pierre Kalulu.

The France international is impressing in Serie A at the moment, and it’s not surprising to see transfer rumours linking him with clubs in the Premier League.

According to Il Giornale, as cited and translated by Sport Witness, Man Utd and Liverpool have been tracking Kalulu, while Juventus hope to tie the 25-year-old down to a new contract.

This chimes with our recent exclusive on United and Liverpool scouts giving “very positive” feedback on what they’d seen from Kalulu’s recent performances.

What our sources said about Pierre Kalulu transfer situation

“United and Liverpool have had scouts watch Kalulu play recently and the feedback has been very positive,” one source said.

“United are looking at a long list of options and Kalulu is one they really like,” another source said. “We can also expect Liverpool to step up their interest, whether or not they lose Ibrahima Konate.”

Sport Witness note that Kalulu is represented by CAA Stellar, who are also the agency of Konate, as well as of MUFC duo Kobbie Mainoo and Luke Shaw.

Tottenham and Newcastle could also be two clubs to watch out for in the race for Kalulu’s signature, we’ve been told.

Liverpool need to win the race for Pierre Kalulu

Using our Transfer Fit rating system, we’ve given Kalulu a high score for Liverpool as they could really do with a central defender of his quality this summer amid doubts over Konate’s future, and with Virgil van Dijk ageing and perhaps starting to look past his best…

Pierre Kalulu TOTAL SCORE: 18/25

Kalulu wouldn’t be crazily expensive, is in good form and at a good stage of his career, and would surely go straight into the LFC XI as a key player.

United probably don’t need Kalulu quite as much as they have a decent amount of depth from the likes of Lisandro Martinez, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, and Ayden Heaven.

Ian Wright names the Liverpool figure who “will be happy” with Mohamed Salah’s exit

26 March 2026 at 15:40

Liverpool manager Arne Slot will be “happy” with Mohamed Salah leaving the club, according to Arsenal legend Ian Wright.

The pundit, speaking on today’s episode of The Overlap, suggested that Slot will probably benefit from losing the whole circus that surrounds Salah.

DOWNLOAD THE OFFICIAL CAUGHTOFFSIDE APP FOR ALL THE LATEST & BREAKING UPDATES – STRAIGHT TO YOUR PHONE! ON APPLE & GOOGLE PLAY

Even though the Egypt international has been a world class performer for much of his time at Anfield, his form has gone very clearly downhill this season, leading to less playing time.

The problem is, as Wright and his fellow pundits acknowledged, it’s basically impossible for Slot to drop a big name like Salah to the bench without it becoming the dominant story.

Ian Wright on Mohamed Salah exit being good for Arne Slot

It’s easy to imagine that Salah leaving will make things easier for Slot next season, even it will also surely be hard for the Reds to replace one of their all-time great players.

“It must be easier for Slot,” Wright said.

“He’s worried about ‘if I leave him out, if he’s on the bench, what’s he going to be like?’

“You know, the amount of fuss that he’s on the bench oh my god Salah’s on (the bench), is he going to come on? I think Slot will be happy.”

How Liverpool can rebuild after Salah

Even if the time looks to be right for Salah to move on from Liverpool, the club will surely struggle to find someone who can fill his boots.

The Egyptian superstar is one of the best players of the Premier League era and there don’t look to be many realistic options on the market to replace him in the LFC attack.

As we reported yesterday, Liverpool are working overtime to replace Salah and would ideally love one of Michael Olise or Yan Diomande.

Neville & Carragher drop interesting Salah transfer theories that might surprise Liverpool fans

26 March 2026 at 15:19

Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher have both made interesting claims about the Mohamed Salah transfer situation after his announcement that he’s leaving Liverpool.

DOWNLOAD THE OFFICIAL CAUGHTOFFSIDE APP FOR ALL THE LATEST & BREAKING UPDATES – STRAIGHT TO YOUR PHONE! ON APPLE & GOOGLE PLAY

Salah will be on his way out of Anfield this summer, perhaps a bit earlier than some would have expected after he signed a two-year contract at the end of last season.

Still, there’s also no doubt the Egypt international has suffered a big drop-off in form this season, so it might well be the right time for the Reds to let him go.

Speaking on the latest episode of The Overlap, Neville suggested that he was pretty sure that Salah already had a move lined up and that’s why his departure has been announced early.

Meanwhile, Carragher said he wouldn’t be surprised if the 33-year-old was eyeing a move to another European club rather than making that step down to the Saudi Pro League or MLS.

Where next for Mohamed Salah?

Our understanding is that Salah has interest from Saudi clubs but also from San Diego FC, though no decision on his next destination has been made yet.

We’re not aware of anything being agreed yet, but Neville has suggested it’s possible that Salah already knows where he’s going next.

Despite Salah’s dip in form as he starts to show signs of age, Carragher also made it clear he felt the player might still feel he has what it takes to keep going in Europe.

The slower pace of the game in Italian football might suit Salah well, and he’s played there before with spells with both Roma and Fiorentina.

It will be interesting to see what Salah decides, and if major European clubs are ready to gamble by signing him at this late stage of his career, but his status as a free agent certainly lowers the risk.

Contact made: Liverpool enquire about Michael Olise transfer as “most likely destination” named

26 March 2026 at 14:52

Liverpool have reportedly made fresh enquiries over the availability of Bayern Munich winger Michael Olise, though he’s not available.

On top of that, it seems that if Olise is to ever leave Bayern his preference would be to move to one of La Liga‘s big two – Real Madrid or Barcelona, according to TEAMtalk.

Olise has been in superb form for Bayern this season and looks absolutely ideal for Liverpool to replace Mohamed Salah next season, but it seems a deal may not be realistic.

We’ve been told that LFC are working overtime on signing a top class Salah replacement, with Olise and Yan Diomande among their priorities.

DOWNLOAD THE OFFICIAL CAUGHTOFFSIDE APP FOR ALL THE LATEST & BREAKING UPDATES – STRAIGHT TO YOUR PHONE! ON APPLE & GOOGLE PLAY

Michael Olise looks unlikely to join Liverpool

Still, Graeme Bailey told TEAMtalk that, despite Liverpool’s interest, Olise is not available and would one day favour a move to Spain over a return to the Premier League.

Discussing the France international’s future, Bailey said: “Michael Olise is not leaving Bayern this summer. Munich are very clear.”

He added: “As I have been told previously, whilst he is not dismissive of interest, a move to Liverpool is not necessarily high on his list.

“I am informed that when he does eventually leave Bayern, Spain is the most likely destination – with Real Madrid or Barcelona – but that is not imminent.”

Liverpool need another big summer

Replacing a legendary figure like Salah was never going to be easy, but if they can’t get Olise then Liverpool could be in real trouble.

There aren’t that many other players out there who’d fit as well as Olise as an elite left-footed attacking player who provides high numbers of goals and assists from the right flank.

We’ve previously given Olise to Liverpool a high score with our Transfer Fit rating system – one of the highest we’ve ever given any player.

After spending big on the likes of Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz last summer, it could be that the Reds will have to do so again in a few months’ time to cope with Salah’s exit.

“It just didn’t click” – Man United star makes “amazing” Amorim claim after failed Old Trafford spell

26 March 2026 at 14:25

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has made a surprise claim about former Red Devils manager Ruben Amorim.

Despite the Portuguese tactician suffering a really disappointing spell in charge at Man Utd, it seems Maguire still rates him very highly.

DOWNLOAD THE OFFICIAL CAUGHTOFFSIDE APP FOR ALL THE LATEST & BREAKING UPDATES – STRAIGHT TO YOUR PHONE! ON APPLE & GOOGLE PLAY

Speaking to the Guardian, the England international admitted that Amorim’s ideas didn’t really work at United, though he still insists he had positive feelings towards him and tipped him to go on and have an “amazing” career elsewhere.

Given how badly United performed under Amorim, this might come as a surprise to some of the club’s fans, but Maguire seems like he saw something in the former Sporting Lisbon boss, who was indeed very highly regarded before his time at Old Trafford.

Harry Maguire on Ruben Amorim’s struggles at Manchester United

“The change of manager happened and that has helped with the form of the club and the formation we play,” Maguire told the Guardian.

“When you play a certain way, especially me in the middle of a back three, you do play a bit different to a four. It [going to a four] has had a part to play. It must have because the results before weren’t good enough.

“I don’t really have much bad to say about Ruben. I really like Ruben, he’s got great ideas. The ideas just didn’t work at Manchester United.

“I do believe he’ll go on and have an amazing career, and at his next club he’ll probably go and win many, many football matches. It just didn’t click or work and us, as players, have got to take a lot of responsibility for that as well.

“He has led the club in a direction and I do think he deserves a lot of credit for that, where he’s built a good, solid squad.”

Can Michael Carrick be the permanent successor to Ruben Amorim?

Michael Carrick has done a superb job since replacing Amorim in his spell as interim manager at Man United.

Still, there remains some uncertainty about whether he’ll get the job permanently once the season comes to an end.

So far, Carrick’s record reads as follows, and it looks like it’s given MUFC genuine hope of qualifying for the Champions League…

Carrick at Man Utd Wins Draws Losses Win %
2025/26 7 2 1 70.00

United might want a more experienced manager for the long run, though, with Carrick perhaps not yet ready to take on such a challenging job on a permanent basis.

“Top drawer” Premier League attacker among top Man United transfer targets this summer

26 March 2026 at 13:43

There’s some major Manchester United transfer news emerging this morning, with Everton winger Iliman Ndiaye among their many summer targets.

DOWNLOAD THE OFFICIAL CAUGHTOFFSIDE APP FOR ALL THE LATEST & BREAKING UPDATES – STRAIGHT TO YOUR PHONE! ON APPLE & GOOGLE PLAY

Ndiaye has impressed in the Premier League this season, contributing six goals and three assists in 25 league games.

This has previously led to the Senegal international being linked with Man Utd by TEAMtalk, and now there’s a fresh update on him from Sky Sports.

They name Ndiaye as one of the attacking players on United’s radar, along with talented young RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande.

Other big names like Elliot Anderson, Carlos Baleba, Adam Wharton, and Lewis Hall are mentioned in their report as MUFC could be set for a busy window if they get back into the Champions League.

Is Iliman Ndiaye good enough for Manchester United?

It’s easy to imagine Everton coming under pressure to sell Ndiaye before long, but is he actually good enough for United considering how much he’s likely to cost?

The Red Devils already have fine attacking options like Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Amad Diallo, so it’s not obvious Ndiaye would be a regular in their starting XI.

It’s also worth noting that Ndiaye’s numbers are not that spectacular and he’s already 26 years of age, so there’s perhaps limited scope for him to improve much further.

Taking all this into account, we gave him the Transfer Fit rating below (find out more about how we calculate these here)

Iliman Ndiaye TOTAL SCORE: 10/25
Transfer fee *
Performance ***

We rate this at just 10/25 – Ndiaye is enjoying a bit of a purple patch and has scored some fine goals, but the eye test alone can be deceiving.

Jamie O’Hara described Ndiaye as “top drawer” and one of the best players in the Premier League, but he doesn’t actually look quite as impressive as Mbeumo did at Brentford, for example.

Ndiaye is one the best players in the premier league, top drawer he is ?

— Jamie Ohara (@Mrjamieohara1) November 3, 2025

Overall, Ndiaye doesn’t look like someone who’d really take United up a level, and unless he turns out to be a very late bloomer, it’s possible that we’re already seeing him pretty much at his peak level.

Excl: Two clubs on alert for Marcus Rashford as Man United frustrated by Barcelona transfer stance

26 March 2026 at 13:11

Marcus Rashford’s future has been thrown into uncertainty as I can confirm the reports about Barcelona being unsure about signing the Manchester United forward permanently.

There is some frustration inside Old Trafford as not so long ago it looked very much like Barca would be prepared to take up their option to keep Rashford.

This story was first published on the Daily Briefing – click here to subscribe to read exclusive transfer news ad-free!

The clause is widely understood to be just £26m, and I’m told other clubs are now looking very closely at Rashford as it seems he may be available after all.

Marcus Rashford transfer suitors on alert

Sources with a close understanding of the situation have informed me that Rashford is still admired by previous suitors Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan. Those are the only two confirmed names for now, but I’m told we’re likely to hear about concrete links with other top clubs soon.

DOWNLOAD THE OFFICIAL CAUGHTOFFSIDE APP FOR ALL THE LATEST & BREAKING UPDATES – STRAIGHT TO YOUR PHONE! ON APPLE & GOOGLE PLAY

“Barcelona are backtracking on Rashford now,” one source said. “It’s still not clear if they’ve closed the door entirely or if they’ll try to negotiate a lower fee, or if Rashford himself might have to lower his wage demands.”

The source added that Barcelona’s finances are “an issue” for them, and that has opened the door for other clubs to look seriously at Rashford as an option this summer.

Marcus Rashford favours Barcelona stay

It’s not beyond the realms of possibility, however, that some kind of compromise could still be struck, particularly as Rashford himself is keen to remain at the Nou Camp.

There might be some degree of mind-games going on here, with Barca signalling that they’re ready to walk away from a deal for the England international unless United agree to their terms.

My understanding is that Barcelona might be more willing to pay Rashford’s fee in instalments, even if United don’t currently look ready to budge on demanding the full clause be paid up front.

There will be further talks soon, but Rashford will likely push to stay at Barcelona if possible. If it’s clear the deal is unaffordable for them, then we’ll see if these links with the likes of PSG and Milan progress to anything more concrete.

Report: Liverpool, Man Utd & Chelsea hold firm interest in signing star Arsenal are keen to keep

26 March 2026 at 12:36

Liverpool, Manchester United, and Chelsea are reportedly all keeping a close eye on the situation of Arsenal defender Ben White ahead of this summer.

The England international’s Emirates Stadium future looks in major doubt after a lot less playing time with the Gunners this season and last.

As we recently reported, Arsenal are looking at options to replace White, who has suitors around Europe, though there’s now been another update.

According to TEAMtalk, White is also being eyed by Liverpool, Man Utd, Chelsea, and Everton, though they also state that Arsenal would ideally prefer to keep the player.

Should Arsenal keep Ben White?

White has been a top performer for Arsenal in recent years, performing at a high level whether asked to fill in at centre-back or right-back.

There’s surely a lot of value in keeping the 28-year-old around for a bit longer, as he still looks good enough to rotate with Jurrien Timber in that right-back spot.

Still, TEAMtalk suggest White is keen to play more, and specifically to play more as a central defender, so that might mean leaving AFC works better for him.

Ben White transfer looks tempting for big clubs

It’s not too surprising to see that big clubs are still keen on White, even if he’s not getting any younger and hasn’t played as much in the last year or so.

Liverpool would surely benefit from bringing in someone of his versatility and experience to give them more options at the back after Jeremie Frimpong’s disappointing form and with Ibrahima Konate nearing the end of his contract.

United, meanwhile, would probably see White as an upgrade on Diogo Dalot on the right-hand side of their defence, while Chelsea might benefit from adding more experience to their youthful squad.

Arsenal will likely try to avoid selling White to a club they perceive as a potential title rival, so that could benefit Everton and any other suitors that emerge.

New: Man Utd rival Liverpool for ideal €100m Salah replacement, talks have already taken place

The Red Devils are the latest club to show an interest in Diomande, who has shone in the Bundesliga this season and whose fine form has also attracted strong interest from Liverpool.

According to Sky Sports, Man Utd are looking at Diomande as one of a number of targets for the summer as they look for signings in a few different positions.

The report also mentions United’s interest in Elliot Anderson, and Diomande is another top young talent on the club’s radar.

Liverpool and Man United both chasing Yan Diomande transfer

See below as Florian Plettenberg recently linked Diomande strongly with Liverpool, with the Sky Germany journalist claiming that the Ivory Coast international could cost as much as €100m.

He also stated that talks had already taken place, so it could be that Liverpool are currently ahead of United in the pursuit of the talented 19-year-old…

?? Since a transfer for Michael Olise in the summer is not considered realistic, Liverpool’s Bundesliga focus has shifted to Yan #Diomande.

— Florian Plettenberg (@Plettigoal) March 5, 2026

It will be interesting to see how this pans out, as LFC and MUFC are both huge clubs who could be seen as a very tempting next step for Diomande in his career.

One imagines Champions League football could end up being a crucial factor, with United currently ahead of Liverpool in the race for the top four.

He’d be expensive, which is one weakness, while he’s also inexperienced, but that means there’s a huge amount of potential for him to improve as he gets older.

Both clubs also need a winger to add more spark to their attacking options for next season, with Diomande looking like one of the best options on the market.

Report reveals Mohamed Salah tension with both Jurgen Klopp and Arne Slot

26 March 2026 at 11:35

Mohamed Salah will certainly be leaving Liverpool as a Reds legend and an all-time Premier League great, but it seems he wasn’t always easy to work with.

Liverpool fans will surely miss Salah, but a report has shed some light into how he could be quite difficult for his managers as he fell out with both Jurgen Klopp and Arne Slot.

According to the Telegraph, Salah still regards himself as one of the best players in the world and would not be content to stay at Liverpool if it meant sitting on the bench.

DOWNLOAD THE OFFICIAL CAUGHTOFFSIDE APP FOR ALL THE LATEST & BREAKING UPDATES – STRAIGHT TO YOUR PHONE! ON APPLE & GOOGLE PLAY

This is what has led to the breakdown of his relationship with Slot this season, while in the past he also had a row with former LFC boss Klopp when he was benched for a game against West Ham.

Right time for Mohamed Salah and Liverpool to part ways

At the end of the day, most clubs will put up with someone like Salah as long as they’re delivering at their usual high standards on the pitch.

The Egypt international is a rare breed of player who’s good enough to get away with being slightly hard to manage, but it’s also true that even the best eventually get old and lose the powers they had at their peak.

The reality is that Salah staying at Liverpool now would likely have been too much of a problem for it to be worthwhile, so him leaving on a free transfer this summer will likely go down as the right call.

Mohamed Salah’s legacy at Liverpool

Salah has been a joy to watch for Liverpool, and even if his time at Anfield isn’t exactly ending as he might have wanted it, he’s sure to get a great reception as he bids farewell to the club.

Mohamed Salah Games Goals

See the table above for Salah’s stunning numbers for Liverpool, with the 33-year-old now the club’s third highest scorer in their history.

Salah is also fourth on the Premier League’s all-time scorers list, behind only Wayne Rooney, Harry Kane, and Alan Shearer.

As well as his goals, Salah has also delivered in big games, helping his side to two Premier League title victories whilst also scoring in their Champions League final triumph of 2019.

Deal close for Chelsea & Tottenham transfer target in surprise update

26 March 2026 at 10:56

A new contract is reportedly getting closer for Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic despite him also being linked with Chelsea and Tottenham.

The Serbia international’s current Juve deal is due to expire this summer, but it now looks like progress is being made on an extension to that deal.

DOWNLOAD THE OFFICIAL CAUGHTOFFSIDE APP FOR ALL THE LATEST & BREAKING UPDATES – STRAIGHT TO YOUR PHONE! ON APPLE & GOOGLE PLAY

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, it seems Vlahovic is closing in on a new contract to extend his stay at Juventus despite his dip in form in recent times.

This is Vlahovic’s fifth season in Turin, and his numbers only seem to be heading in one direction, as you can see in the table below…

Dusan Vlahovic Games Goals
2021/22 21 9
2022/23 42 14
2023/24 38 18
2024/25 44 17
2025/26 18 6

Vlahovic had been linked with Chelsea and Spurs by Foot Mercato, and while he might have been a tempting option as a free agent, he’s not exactly set the world alight during his time with Juve, so it’s a bit of a surprise they’re now working on keeping him.

Dusan Vlahovic transfer opportunity missed for Chelsea and Tottenham

If these latest reports are accurate then it looks like we surely won’t be seeing Vlahovic joining Chelsea or Tottenham this summer.

Both clubs have issues up front, so bringing in the 26-year-old as a free agent just to add some squad depth might have been reasonable business, even if there are probably also more exciting options out there.

Spurs in particular are having a miserable season, and will likely need to replace Randal Kolo Muani, who is only in north London on loan, while other forwards like Dominic Solanke and Mathys Tel haven’t performed consistently enough.

Vlahovic may not be a world beater, but he could have added something to this THFC squad, while CFC also look in need of more experience in their ranks.

Liam Delap looks like this big move came too soon for him, and the Blues lack an alternative to Joao Pedro, so it’s easy to imagine Vlahovic could have had a decent impact coming off the bench from time to time.

Report: Manchester United eager to sign ‘ideal’ no.8 before the World Cup

26 March 2026 at 10:41

Manchester United reportedly view Nottingham Forest central midfielder Elliot Anderson as their ‘ideal’ no.8 target for this summer.

The Red Devils are also said to be keen to get their business done early as they did with Matheus Cunha last year.

According to Sky Sports, Man Utd are aware of how the upcoming 2026 World Cup tournament could ramp up players’ price tags.

Anderson is certainly one of those who will likely get the chance to impress and add to his value with England at the World Cup, where he looks set to have a key role in Thomas Tuchel’s side.

Elliot Anderson will be a man in demand this summer

Anderson has been superb for Nottingham Forest this season and is starting to really establish himself for England as well.

It’s not surprising to see United making the 23-year-old a top target, while Sky Sports also mentions the likelihood of strong competition from Manchester City.

We have also been made aware of Chelsea eyeing Anderson as a replacement for Enzo Fernandez, whose future at Stamford Bridge is uncertain ahead of the summer.

Nottingham Forest could use World Cup to boost Elliot Anderson transfer fee

Forest will surely be aware at this point that it’s going to be hard for them to keep Anderson, but they can also use the World Cup to their advantage.

If they refuse to enter into negotiations before the tournament, they will surely know they can be patient and up their price later in the summer.

Anderson will be looking to impress with England, and if he maintains the kind of form he’s shown in the Premier League this term, then he will likely be able to make an impact on the biggest stage as well.

It obviously suits United to avoid that scenario, but they’re not the ones in control here, so expect Forest to hold out for a bidding war after what they’ll hope is an impressive World Cup campaign for their prized asset.

How Liverpool missed out on £150m for Mohamed Salah, who’s now set for free transfer

26 March 2026 at 10:20

Mohamed Salah has confirmed he’ll be leaving Liverpool at the end of this season, but the Reds could have banked as much as £150m for a player they’ll now lose for free.

It seems that, as recently as 2023, Liverpool rejected a £150m bid for Salah from Saudi Pro League giants Al Ittihad, who are now interested in the Egypt international again, according to ESPN.

The report states that Salah is now set to be allowed to leave Liverpool on a free despite having a year remaining on his contract, and it will surely sting a little for the club to have missed out on such a huge transfer fee.

DOWNLOAD THE OFFICIAL CAUGHTOFFSIDE APP FOR ALL THE LATEST & BREAKING UPDATES – STRAIGHT TO YOUR PHONE! ON APPLE & GOOGLE PLAY

Of course, it’s also worth remembering that Salah had arguably his best season for Liverpool just a year ago, while his form has dipped significantly since then, so things can change very quickly in football.

Liverpool wouldn’t sell Mohamed Salah of last season for £150m

Liverpool surely wouldn’t swap the exceptional form they saw from Salah last season for £150m, which likely wouldn’t be enough to bring in anyone quite as good in his place.

Salah won the Golden Boot as he fired LFC to the Premier League title, and has fully established himself as one of the Reds’ best ever players.

£150m might be good for the club’s accounts, but fans won’t be thinking that way, and nor should they after being lucky enough to witness such greatness from one of the best players of the Premier League era.

Salah is clearly past his best now, so likely wouldn’t attract such a big fee, but it was surely worth it for the 33-year-old to deliver the title in such style last term.

What next for Mohamed Salah?

As reported here yesterday, Salah could be set for the Saudi Pro League but also has interest from MLS giants San Diego FC.

The former Roma man will surely have a lot of interest and more names may be revealed later.

ESPN link Salah strongly with Al Ittihad, but suggest that Al Nassr and Al Hilal will not be pursuing him this summer.

Michael Edwards has maintained contact with dream Liverpool manager target since 2024

25 March 2026 at 18:30

Liverpool director Michael Edwards has reportedly been in contact with Xabi Alonso ever since first eyeing him up to be Reds manager in 2024.

That’s according to a report from Bild, who suggest it looks increasingly likely that Alonso is set to replace Arne Slot at Anfield next season.

The Spanish tactician was first targeted by Liverpool chief Edwards after the tremendous work he did at Bayer Leverkusen, though he ended up taking over at Real Madrid.

Now, however, Alonso is available again and is back on Liverpool’s agenda after Slot’s disappointing second season in charge, according to Bild.

Can Xabi Alonso turn things around for Liverpool?

Slot arguably deserves a bit more time after winning the Premier League title in his first season in charge of LFC, but we know the nature of the modern game means things can change very quickly.

The reality is that Liverpool now look up against it to qualify for the Champions League, and may well finish the season without any silverware.

And despite Slot doing so well in his first season in charge, there has been a huge dip in performances despite the Dutch tactician being given a lot of expensive new signings to work with.

Alonso’s availability also means it’s tempting to start to think about how else to approach working with this current squad, particularly Florian Wirtz.

Xabi Alonso could unlock Florian Wirtz again

Alonso and Wirtz worked well together at Leverkusen, and that’s been one major issue for Slot this season.

Liverpool invested a lot in signing the Germany international, but he hasn’t looked at home in Slot’s system, and getting the best out of such an expensive signing will be crucial.

Alonso could work his magic with Wirtz again, as well as with another of his former Leverkusen players Jeremie Frimpong.

Sources: Arsenal “offered” chance to sign Liverpool target as clear preference revealed

25 March 2026 at 17:58

Arsenal have been given an exciting opportunity in the transfer market as the race hots up for Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga.

DOWNLOAD THE OFFICIAL CAUGHTOFFSIDE APP FOR ALL THE LATEST & BREAKING UPDATES – STRAIGHT TO YOUR PHONE! ON APPLE & GOOGLE PLAY

As first reported for the Daily Briefing, a well-connected source has been in touch with me again to provide an update on something we discussed a few days ago, and it could have major repercussions for the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool, as well as potentially Chelsea and Manchester United.

For now, the Reds have the most advanced interest in Camavinga, having had two rounds of talks with his entourage, though I should stress that that does not mean we’ll necessarily see this develop into any direct negotiations with Real Madrid.

However, clubs are aware that Camavinga is available this summer for around €50m, and I’m told that Arsenal have now been contacted to be offered the France international’s services.

Eduardo Camavinga transfer could be an option for Arsenal, but will they take it?

With Camavinga’s future in doubt, it makes sense that his representatives are sounding out clubs to see if there’s any interest. This kind of thing happens all the time.

Crucially, however, my source, who has asked to remain anonymous to protect relationships, insists it’s clear-cut that Camavinga will only move to a club playing in the Champions League.

This gives Arsenal a clear edge – for now – over Liverpool and Chelsea, who are struggling and not looking guaranteed to qualify for Europe’s top club competition next season.

This could yet lead to Manchester United also entering the conversation, but that’s not straightforward either.

“Arsenal are keen to move away from a model they used in the past where they’d sign players because of availability or relationships with key agents or intermediaries,” my source explained.

“They’ve been offered Camavinga but they’ll only go for it if they’re convinced it’s right for them. For now, they have other preferred targets.”

It’s also well-established that this is the case for Manchester United, with both clubs considering Sandro Tonali and generally favouring moving for players already proven in the Premier League.

Arsenal and Real Madrid have a good relationship

Relationships between clubs do matter, though, and we’ve seen before that Arsenal and Real Madrid are prepared to do business together. This led to loan moves for Dani Ceballos and Martin Odegaard, the latter of which of course became permanent.

We’re not at that stage yet, but I wouldn’t rule out Arsenal exploring the option of signing Camavinga on loan at some point in the window.

This will depend, however, on whether or not they can land a preferred target before that, and of course if Camavinga himself is still available or been snapped up by someone else.

An interesting situation, which looks very much open and a major opportunity for top clubs if they want to take it. I’ll keep you posted as and when I hear more.

Agents want Newcastle star to leave for Premier League rivals

25 March 2026 at 17:38

The agent of Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali is keen for his client to seal a transfer to a Premier League club this summer.

The Italy international has been linked with Arsenal, Manchester United, and Manchester City in recent times after surprise talk of a possible exit from St James’ Park on Deadline Day in January.

DOWNLOAD THE OFFICIAL CAUGHTOFFSIDE APP FOR ALL THE LATEST & BREAKING UPDATES – STRAIGHT TO YOUR PHONE! ON APPLE & GOOGLE PLAY

A deal was never likely to materialise for Tonali at that moment, but the story has set the tone for the summer transfer window, with the feeling seeming pretty clear that the player and his representatives are gearing up for a big move.

And despite some talk of Tonali himself being keen to return to Serie A, where there is reported to be some interest from Juventus, it seems he’s perhaps more likely to stay in the Premier League.

Sandro Tonali agent pushing for Premier League transfer

Tonali will likely be too expensive for any Italian club, both in terms of his transfer fee and wages, so staying in England seems the most likely thing for the 25-year-old.

The former AC Milan man would likely command a regular starting spot for United and City, and could perhaps be a useful option for Arsenal after the recent dip in form of Martin Zubimendi, and with the lack of a rotation option for Declan Rice in Mikel Arteta’s midfield.

Reports in Italy suggest that Tonali’s agent has recently been to watch Arsenal’s game against Brighton, and is doing his bit to stir up Premier League interest in his client.

Newcastle surely won’t be keen to sell Tonali, however, especially after the lengthy saga that eventually saw them lose Alexander Isak to Liverpool last summer.

It’s vital for this NUFC project to keep key players like Tonali around, and that could mean he’s going to prove too expensive even for the top Premier League clubs this summer.

“Some concerns” Crystal Palace could lose “important” player who’s on Liverpool’s radar

25 March 2026 at 15:54

There will reportedly be “some concerns” inside Crystal Palace about the future of Maxence Lacroix, who has been linked with Liverpool.

DOWNLOAD THE OFFICIAL CAUGHTOFFSIDE APP FOR ALL THE LATEST & BREAKING UPDATES – STRAIGHT TO YOUR PHONE! ON APPLE & GOOGLE PLAY

The 25-year-old has impressed during his time at Selhurst Park, and is an even more important player for the club now after Marc Guehi’s departure to Manchester City in January.

Lacroix has been linked with Liverpool by the Daily Mail, and it’s certainly easy to imagine the Frenchman being a solid signing to potentially replace Ibrahima Konate as he nears the end of his Reds contract.

With Lacroix just earning his first call-up to the France squad in this international break, Mick Brown has expressed his view that Palace might be concerned about how that impacts the player’s future.

Speaking to Football Insider, the former Premier League scout suggested he’s seen this happen with a lot of players before, as their international teammates can get in their ear about playing in the Champions League.

Crystal Palace given Maxence Lacroix transfer warning

Crystal Palace will have some concerns about Maxence Lacroix,” Brown said.

“We spoke about it with (Jean-Philippe) Mateta and I’ve seen it happen countless times, these players get international recognition and all of a sudden everything changes.

“Their agents are knocking on the door looking for pay rises, or they’re looking at interested clubs and whether they can capitalise on the talk surrounding them.

“They go away with France and everybody’s talking about playing in the Champions League and all of that sort of thing, and it has an impact.”

He added: “So in that respect I don’t think there will be any major concern, but after everything that happened with Mateta, it will be something they’re worried about.

“I watched him a lot at Wolfsburg and since then he’s gone to Palace and he’s been excellent, especially now in the absence of Marc Guehi where he’s stepped up.

“He’s such an important part of everything they do, so if there’s any suggestion he could leave it would be an issue, but it’s one to keep an eye on.”

Liverpool will surely fight to keep Konate, but they’ll also likely have an eye on someone like Lacroix in case they do end up losing their key defensive player on a free transfer.

“They’re looking” – Aston Villa tipped to target PL striker who’s been a “handful” this season

Aston Villa are likely to be looking at Sunderland striker Brian Brobbey as a potential transfer target up front this summer.

That’s according to former Premier League scout Mick Brown as he spoke to Football Insider about Villa’s need to look for a replacement for Ollie Watkins.

Watkins hasn’t had the best season for Villa, and it might be time for Unai Emery and co. to bring in someone younger as a long-term successor to lead the line.

Brobbey has shone with Sunderland, so could be an ideal option for the Midlands outfit, though one imagines the Black Cats won’t be at all keen to sell the Dutchman.

Villa would surely represent a tempting step up for Brobbey, however, who has made an impressive start to life in the Premier League since his move from Ajax.

The 24-year-old has six goals and one assist so far, and could surely get even better numbers for a club like Villa.

Brian Brobbey tipped as Aston Villa transfer target

Discussing Villa’s plans, Brown explained why he felt they would likely be in the market for someone of Brobbey’s profile this summer.

“They’ve been frustrated with Watkins and the other options because they haven’t had that regular goalscorer, so they’re looking at a few options,” Brown said.

“Brian Brobbey is somebody they will have been looking at, because there’s always interested in players, strikers particularly, who are making a bit of a name for themselves.

“Sunderland did a fantastic job with their recruitment in the summer and it’s been a really strong season for them, and Brobbey has been very impressive.

“He looks a handful to play against. He’s strong, will back into defenders, battle them, fight them, run in behind, and he’ll score goals as well.

“So for a side like Aston Villa, that sort of centre-forward is going to be somebody who takes their fancy and I’m sure they’ll be keeping a close eye on him.”

Man United working behind the scenes to sign £55m star ahead of Bayern Munich

Manchester United are reportedly working behind the scenes on a potential transfer move for Tottenham midfielder Archie Gray.

The 20-year-old has been one shining light in an otherwise hugely disappointing Spurs season, and it could now be that the club risk losing him if they get relegated.

According to Fichajes, Man Utd are preparing to pounce if that does happen, with the feeling being that an offer in the region of £55m could be enough to ‘unlock’ this deal.

Bayern Munich are also mentioned as potential suitors for Gray, who looks like he has it in him to go right to the very top in the game.

MUFC fans will be well aware that their club needs signings in midfield this summer, and Gray could be a good option for them to consider.

Archie Gray could be a smart signing for Manchester United

Gray is not one of the more experienced names out there being linked with the Red Devils at the moment, but at £55m he might also be cheaper than the likes of Elliot Anderson and Adam Wharton.

There’s also a great deal of potential there for the England Under-21 international to grow into an even better player before too long.

Gray’s versatility will also surely appeal to United as he could come in and fill a variety of roles as needed.

At the same time, however, the club should perhaps focus on more of a specialist in midfield as they could find it hard finding someone to succeed the experienced Casemiro in that position.

It will also be interesting to see what Spurs decide to do, as they’ll surely prioritise selling Gray abroad, which could help Bayern.

€60m-rated duo on Arsenal’s list of transfer targets for problem position

Arsenal are reportedly eyeing two new right-backs as they assess options in that position for the summer – Wesley Franca and Vanderson.

The Gunners will likely need to make a change in that area of the pitch for next season, with Ben White looking likely to leave after a lack of playing time this term.

We’ve previously reported on Arsenal eyeing Ivan Fresneda to replace White at right-back, but now Wesley and Vanderson are being linked in a report by Fichajes.

Arsenal might need to be a bit more careful with their spending this summer after making so many signings last year, so Wesley and Vanderson look like good potentially cheap options.

Can Arsenal sign bargain right-back this summer?

While it remains to be seen precisely how much Arsenal might face paying for these players, Transfermarkt lists Wesley as being worth €40m.

That looks like a potentially smart investment for a 22-year-old who can surely keep on getting better, though Vanderson might be even cheaper.

Transfermarkt have the Brazilian’s valuation at just €20m, but that doesn’t necessarily mean Monaco would sell for that price.

That could be some indication, however, of what AFC will need to start negotiating at if they want either of these players.

Arsenal need more depth at the back

One imagines Jurrien Timber will remain the first choice at right-back for Mikel Arteta, even if one of these names comes in.

Still, rotation options are important, as we’ve seen this term with Riccardo Calafiori out injured a lot, meaning new signing Piero Hincapie has ended up playing more than was perhaps expected.

Someone like Wesley or Vanderson to come in for Timber could be a big boost for Arsenal so as not to tire the Dutchman out as he’d had little opportunity to rest this season.

€200m bid prepared: Chelsea braced for stunning Saudi transfer pursuit of star player

The Argentina international is facing an uncertain future ahead of this summer, with transfer rumours now growing about interest from the Saudi Pro League.

According to Fichajes, Al Ittihad could be prepared to pay as much as €200m to tempt Chelsea into selling Fernandez this summer.

However, it remains to be seen if Fernandez would be ready to make such a move, with the report also mentioning interest from Paris Saint-Germain, who could probably also offer big money as well as the chance for the former Benfica man to carry on playing at a high level in Europe.

Enzo Fernandez’s future: what we know so far

Fernandez has not ruled out leaving Chelsea, which will certainly be a concern for some Blues fans after his fine form during his time at Stamford Bridge.

Simon Phillips has named Fernandez as one of a number of CFC players discussing moves away with their agents ahead of the summer.

However, Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior has played this speculation down – you can read his full quotes here.

Chelsea looking for Enzo Fernandez replacements

Our understanding is that Chelsea have been open-minded about potentially needing to replace Fernandez for some time now.

One name the Blues are really keen on is Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson, though there’s some suggestion that the two Manchester clubs are already further ahead in their pursuit.

Other names will surely come up, with Chelsea unlikely to let Fernandez go without having someone ready to come in and fill that void.

The 25-year-old was one of the major statement signings of the current club ownership, so it will likely take huge money to convince them to let him go.

21 G/A Premier League star eyed by Liverpool to replace Mohamed Salah

25 March 2026 at 13:49

Liverpool are reportedly eyeing Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon as one potential candidate to replace the departing Mohamed Salah this summer.

The England international has been in superb form for Newcastle again this season, contributing a total of 17 goals and four assists in all competitions.

Although it won’t be easy for anyone to replace a club legend like Salah, there’s a lot of sense in targeting someone like Gordon who’s already shown he can perform at a high level in the Premier League and Champions League.

According to Fichajes, the former Everton man is on Liverpool’s radar alongside other big names like Bradley Barcola and Yan Diomande.

Anthony Gordon to Liverpool transfer looks a great fit

Newcastle obviously won’t be happy to sell another star player to Liverpool after the Alexander Isak saga of last summer, but Gordon moving to LFC looks like a good fit for both the club and the player.

The 25-year-old will want to take his career to the next level and Liverpool could be the perfect stage for him to do that, with Newcastle suffering a slightly disappointing campaign as they will likely miss out on European football next term.

Some Liverpool fans might feel their club could do better than Gordon, but he’s surely more realistic than someone like Bayern Munich star Michael Olise.

18/25 is a high score, with Gordon’s recent form and overall career so far showing he can be consistent performer at the highest level.

He loses points for likely being very expensive, but there’s no doubt that Liverpool need a player like this as they prepare for life after Salah.

Liverpool eyeing Michael Olise as dream Mohamed Salah replacement

As we reported earlier today, Michael Olise is a dream Liverpool target as the club’s recruitment team works overtime to find a replacement for Salah.

We have previously been informed about Liverpool eyeing Gordon, along with Arsenal and Manchester City, but interestingly that has since gone a little quiet.

One imagines the Reds will look at a whole host of names in the weeks and months ahead before making a final decision on who to sign in that area of their squad.

Sources: Liverpool “working overtime” on Salah replacements – don’t rule out cash-plus-player deal

25 March 2026 at 12:44

Liverpool are understood to be “working overtime” as they internally analyse ideal transfer targets to replace Mohamed Salah.

As reported here for my Daily Briefing exclusive, the Reds have been looking into winger targets for some time now as there have been lingering doubts over Salah’s future this season.

The Egypt international has now confirmed he’ll be leaving Anfield at the end of this season, and the names to watch to replace him could be Michael Olise and Yan Diomande.

As for Salah himself, he’ll likely head to either the Saudi Pro League with Al Nassr or Al Ittihad, but a move to MLS giants San Diego FC could also be an option, with no final decision yet.

Sources on Liverpool’s transfer targets to replace Mohamed Salah

Replacing a club legend like this won’t be easy, but names to watch out for have already been widely reported – Michael Olise and Yan Diomande.

“Liverpool are working overtime to get a marquee signing to replace Salah,” one source told me. “They’d love to get Michael Olise, and although at Bayern’s end there’s no indication that they’re even open to listening to offers, Liverpool feel they might be able to tempt the player back to the Premier League.”

Michael Olise TOTAL SCORE: 21/25
Transfer fee **

Olise has been on fire for Bayern this season, establishing himself as one of the best attacking players in Europe with 19 goals and 24 assists in all competitions.

Those are the numbers LFC will need from their new winger if they are to adequately replace a world class talent like Salah, but it will likely require paying crazy money, as they did last summer with signings such as Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz. Whether they can do that for a second year in a row without also making significant sales remains to be seen.

More exits to fund Liverpool signings?

It’s early days yet, but one player to keep an eye on could be Cody Gakpo. He was a target for Bayern last summer, and although I’m not aware of any talks yet, there’s the sense that he would be available for the right price, and it could also be logical to try including him in any deal for Olise.

Diomande, meanwhile, has shone at RB Leipzig and I’ve heard Arne Slot is a big fan, even if he’s not yet a big and proven name in the same league as Salah or Olise.

There’s a recognition that it’s not the easiest market for top attacking players right now, so it will be interesting to see how Liverpool navigate that, but work has already begun to ensure that they’re fully prepared for this new era without Salah.

The Denmark international has been back in Serie A this season in what started out as a temporary move but which now looks almost certain to be made permanent.

Hojlund struggled to impress at Man Utd, but previously looked an exciting young talent at former club Atalanta.

It seems returning to Italy has done Hojlund good, and it’s not too surprising that this deal is set to become permanent, as previously reported by Fabrizio Romano in the X post below…

? Napoli will trigger €44m buy option clause for Rasmus Højlund, as always reported.

Players loving life after Manchester United

This sounds pretty damning for United, with a talented young player clearly very happy to have put his time with the club behind him.

It will be interesting to see if the 23-year-old can continue to shine now that he’s back in Italian football, but he’s certainly not the only player in recent years to leave United and improve.

His Napoli teammate Scott McTominay is just one other example of those, along with Marcus Rashford, now on loan at Barcelona, and Antony, now at Real Betis.

Liam Rosenior’s job not entirely safe as Chelsea & Man City both eye the same manager for next season

25 March 2026 at 11:02

Chelsea and Manchester City both have an interest in Como manager Cesc Fabregas, with some uncertainty surrounding Liam Rosenior’s future.

It’s also seemed likely for some time now that Man City may be about to bid farewell to Pep Guardiola, though nothing has been confirmed yet.

Still, according to a report from TEAMtalk, both Chelsea and City are keen admirers of Fabregas after his impressive stint in charge of Como in Serie A.

The 38-year-old Spaniard is still relatively inexperienced in management, but has quickly gained a big reputation for the job he’s done with Como, with his side currently sitting in fourth place in the Italian top flight.

Could Cesc Fabregas return to Chelsea to replace Liam Rosenior?

It may be that Rosenior’s position at Chelsea is safe for now, even if he’s not made the most convincing start since replacing Enzo Maresca at Stamford Bridge back in January.

CFC may be prepared to give Rosenior more time as it’s not easy coming in midway through the season, and talkSPORT are one of the outlets playing down talk of him being sacked.

We’ve seen Chelsea being quick to change managers before, though, and TEAMtalk suggest Rosenior may not be entirely safe if the club fail to qualify for the Champions League.

Fabregas, a former Chelsea player, could then be a popular choice to come in as the west London giants’ next manager.

Man City also eyeing Fabregas

The Telegraph have been among the outlets to cast major doubt over Guardiola’s future at the Etihad Stadium beyond this season.

City fans will no doubt hope the Spanish tactician stays for a bit longer, but there have also been some signs of his project perhaps being past its peak now.

Fabregas played under Guardiola at Barcelona, so could make sense as an ideal candidate to come in and continue his work.

It would be a big ask, however, to replace arguably the best manager of the modern era, so the club might opt for someone more experienced.

Report: Tottenham star keen to seal transfer back to his former club

25 March 2026 at 10:39

Tottenham’s on-loan striker Randal Kolo Muani is reportedly keen on another spell with Juventus, where he previously played on loan.

The France international has struggled to perform consistently during his time at Spurs, in what has been a difficult season for everyone at the club as they face a genuine relegation battle in the closing stages of the campaign.

DOWNLOAD THE OFFICIAL CAUGHTOFFSIDE APP FOR ALL THE LATEST & BREAKING UPDATES – STRAIGHT TO YOUR PHONE! ON APPLE & GOOGLE PLAY

It’s not too surprising to see that Kolo Muani is already thinking about his future as he could go back to parent club Paris Saint-Germain and then move from there back to Juve.

That’s according to a report from Gazzetta dello Sport, which suggests Kolo Muani could return to Juventus in a swap deal involving Jonathan David.

Randal Kolo Muani to leave Tottenham and return to Juventus?

Kolo Muani did well in his previous spell at Juventus, and the report states that he still feels loved by the club’s fans.

The 27-year-old scored 10 goals in 22 games with the Turin club last season, but has managed just five goals in 33 appearances with Tottenham this term.

The Premier League is often regarded as the most competitive in the world, so it perhaps makes sense that Kolo Muani has struggled here and might fancy a return to Serie A.

One surprising aspect of this story, however, is that PSG supposedly want to swap him for David, who is another striker having a poor season.

The Canada international has managed just seven goals in 39 games since joining Juventus, though he was previously prolific in Ligue 1 with Lille.

Perhaps PSG feel David could revive his career with a move back to France, but one imagines they can also afford a higher calibre of player than that.

Spurs fans, meanwhile, will just have to hope their club can stay up so that a quality striker can be brought in to replace Kolo Muani.

There are doubts over White’s Arsenal future, as we previously reported here, with the England international attracting interest and initial enquiries.

That’s the latest according to reliable X account Hand of Arsenal, who broke a lot of major stories involving the Gunners during last summer’s transfer window.

White has been a great servant to Arsenal, but has clearly fallen down the pecking order this season, with Jurrien Timber starting 37 games while White has only started 15.

Tino Livramento to replace Ben White at Arsenal?

Livramento has impressed at Newcastle and there have been some Arsenal transfer rumours about him in recent times, as well as links with other clubs.

The Telegraph have reported that AFC could bid for the England international, while TEAMtalk have claimed his asking price could be around £60m.

The latter of those reports also mentioned interest from Manchester City, so it could be tricky for Arsenal to land the player if there’s a big battle with other top clubs for his signature.

Where could Ben White move?

Hand of Arsenal claim Everton are leading the race for White, while our information was that the 28-year-old mostly had suitors from elsewhere in Europe.

It might become clearer as we get closer to the summer, but for now there are likely to be a lot of names monitoring White’s situation as he will surely be looking to move on in order to play more regular first-team football.

Once it becomes more established where White wants to play, and how much Arsenal want to charge for the player, we’ll probably see more concrete reports with specific names coming up.

Without regulation, AI will threaten the very thing football fans have come to love

24 March 2026 at 17:58

Technology has driven countless evolutions in football – and so much of it has made the game better. Through social media, we can interact with fans anywhere in the world; we can stream games thousands of miles away; we can replay highlights obsessively, and meme every weird face that Phil Jones has pulled.

The internet has been a huge driver in giving fans more access to football news, but also more of a voice. It offers a platform for independent journalists and obsessive amateurs to create tailored reporting, from a fan perspective; it makes room for unofficial club sites and dedicated social media pages – the kinds of community spaces where people really fall in love with the sport.

It is this grassroots reporting that is most under threat from artificial intelligence. AI-powered search engines gather statistics and analysis from articles to summarise the information requested. The facts feel like they’re pulled out of thin-air, but they’re not; they’re reported by writers who aren’t getting paid for their work. And when journalists can’t make a living, that work disappears.

Right now, the danger is that leading AI companies will strike licensing agreements with large media groups, leaving independent sites unprotected. Football coverage will get less diverse; smaller clubs will be less represented; niche discussions will have nowhere to thrive.

The Football Writers’ Association has launched a formal initiative to negotiate with leading AI companies over the use of its members’ content by AI platforms. Media plurality must be prioritised, or the convenience of AI will surely be offset by the loss of the passion and specific expertise that audiences want from football reporting.

The rise of grassroots reporting and the football fanzine

The obsessive writings of football fandom took root long before they spread to the internet. In 1980s Britain, football was in a troubled period. In the wake of the Heysel Stadium tragedy, English clubs were banned from European competitions, and football fans became synonymous with “hooligans”. Game attendance slumped across all four divisions of English football.

Fanzines provided the perfect antidote to the disillusionment. Their explosion in popularity brought enthusiasm and creativity back into the game. By 1992, more than 600 fanzines had appeared on the scene, and every professional club in the UK could boast at least one publication meticulously chronicling their successes and failures.

The contributors were often young, unknown football nerds. Notable reporters included singer, and devoted Queens Park Rangers fan, Pete Doherty, and Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh, who wrote for Hibs Monthly. The publication names were playful, drawing on a mix of football chants and cultural references; the content was humorous, and irreverent. It looked, in other words, like much of the funniest fan content we see online now.

User generated content, and what it meant for fans

Then came the internet. In 1990, the first football club website was set up – not for one of the big-name teams, but for Ipswich Town. And why? Because it was small clubs that wouldn’t get mainstream coverage; for them, the internet offered a real opportunity to build their fanbase, and spread their stories across the world.

Bloggers could report on rolling news from their bedrooms. They didn’t need degrees in journalism, or the blessing of a major news outlet; they just needed to love football, and have something to say. Many of today’s sports’ reporters came up through exactly that system; they didn’t start as professionals, but as fanatics.

Social media has accelerated this evolution. A well-crafted reel or a pithy one-liner on X might get more views in a day than a post from the BBC, if you’re good enough.

Fan activism and people power

Social platforms have also vastly increased the influence that fans have on football. Just as the old-school fanzines railed against the South Yorkshire Police in the wake of the Hillsborough disaster, football lovers can now have important conversations online about racism, homophobia, and the increasing control that a few, very rich, individuals have over the sport.

A great example of this is the momentum against the European Super League, which was largely built on social media. Ex-Manchester United defender Gary Neville’s furious outburst about the plans rapidly went viral and, within hours, the top trending topics on Twitter in the UK were: “Disgraceful”, “Money”, “#FSGOut”, “RIP Football”, and “Greedy”. The result? The clubs involved u-turned on their plans within a matter of days.

That kind of grassroots power shouldn’t be undervalued; it was hard-worn. Still, independent creators can’t exist on love of the sport alone. They need, and deserve, to be paid for the value they bring.

The question for AI companies and legislators is, how do they continue technological advancement, while supporting the work of the creators that make AI products worthwhile? The question for football fans is, how do we keep a voice in the face of such existential change?

Which Big-Name Players Face a Race Against Time Ahead of the World Cup

24 March 2026 at 13:32

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is less than three months away, but some big-name players already face a race against time to recover from injuries in time to feature in North America. It seems as though every time the tournament rolls around, a superstar suffers some kind of injury and is forced to sit on the sidelines as the greatest sporting show on earth takes centre stage. It’s a story that England supporters only know too well.

Back in 2002, Steven Gerrard was the next great hope in Sven-Goran Eriksson’s midfield. The Liverpool talisman scored a stunning goal in the famous 5-1 victory against Germany in qualifying, but he was sidelined for the Japan/South Korea showpiece due to a groin issue. Four years later, Wayne Rooney was the Three Lions’ talisman, but he faced a fitness race after breaking his metatarsal late in the 2005/06 Premier League season. The explosive striker would ultimately be selected; however, he was clearly not fit enough for action, and England duly crashed out after yet another quarterfinal defeat to Portugal.

Fast forward to 2026, and there are question marks surrounding some English players, none more so than midfielder Jude Bellingham. The Real Madrid man has had to endure an injury-hit year at the Bernabeu, but despite his potential absence, online betting sites still seem optimistic about England’s hopes. The latest World Cup odds at Bovada list Thomas Tuchel’s men as an 11/2 second-favourite to leave North America with the famous gold trophy in tow this July, with only Spain (9/2) considered more likely.

Bellingham isn’t the only player who has fitness issues heading into the World Cup. Let’s take a look at the three biggest names in real danger of missing this summer’s tournament.

Mikel Merino

Arsenal midfielder Mikel Merino has been one of the stars of the show for Spain in recent years. He scored a famous late winner against hosts Germany in the quarterfinals of Euro 2024, with his bullet header propelling La Roja past Die Mannschaft and ultimately on to a record-breaking fourth title. In World Cup qualifying, he continued in a similar vein, netting a blistering hat trick in the 6-1 rout of Türkiye in Istanbul to cement his spot in Luis de la Fuente’s squad.

This season, Merino was a crucial cog in Arsenal’s challenge for a famous quadruple; however, he suffered a stress fracture in his foot during The Gunners’ 3-2 Premier League loss against Manchester United in late January. The initial timeline ruled him out for at least four months, and the former Real Sociedad man underwent surgery in late February in a bid to ensure he boards the plane to North America. Whether de la Fuente selects him despite his lack of gametime throughout the second half of the season remains to be seen.

Even without Merino, Spain still boasts arguably the most stacked side on the planet. Teenage sensation Lamine Yamal is the jewel in the crown, with a midfield comprising the likes of Pedri, Dani Olmo, Fabian Ruiz, Martin Zubimendi, and Rodri, capable of unlocking any defence. Even without Arsenal’s injured midfielder, they will fancy their chances of winning the World Cup this summer, with their position with the bookies as the 9/2 favourites seemingly backing up their case.

Josko Gvardiol

While Merino may well yet win his fitness battle, someone who might not is Croatia’s Josko Gvardiol. The Manchester City man suffered a tibial fracture to his right leg in the January draw against Chelsea, a loss made all the more painful considering his fine form at the Etihad this season. His return date is thought to be the end of June, and with the tournament getting underway on June 10th, that is obviously not ideal.

Croatia have consistently punched above their weight at the World Cup. In Qatar four years ago, they famously eliminated tournament favourites Brazil in the quarterfinals before going on to secure the bronze medal. In Russia in 2018, they reached the final for the first time ever, beating England in the semis before ultimately succumbing to a Kylian Mbappe-powered France side.

With the next edition of the tournament around the corner, most of the Vatreni golden generation have sailed off into the retirement sunset. Gvardiol’s experience couldn’t be more important to Zlatko Dalic’s backline, and without him, the Croatian manager will have to reshuffle the deck if he wishes to emulate those previous successes.

Alexander Isak

Sweden hasn’t yet confirmed their spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with disappointing performances in qualifying consigning them to the European playoffs. They will have to outlast Ukraine and either Poland or Albania if they are to punch their tickets to the World Cup. And they will have to make it through those playoffs without prolific striker Alexander Isak. Then, even if they do win them, the Liverpool man may not even recover from injury in time to represent the Blågult on the grandest stage.

Isak was the talk of the footballing world last summer as he attempted to force through a transfer from Newcastle United to Liverpool. He eventually got his wish, with the Reds forking out a British record £125m to secure his services. However, he managed just three goals in 15 games before breaking his leg in the December win away at Tottenham.

His return date is slated for the end of April at the earliest, but having played minimal football over the past few months, he will be a million miles from optimal match fitness. That will give Swedish manager Graham Potter a big decision to make ahead of the World Cup, providing his side even makes it that far.

The hidden factors that could decide the Premier League season

23 March 2026 at 17:20

The Premier League is entering its final weeks and the league table appears to be shaping itself into a familiar pattern. However the reality on the pitch is more complex. Teams are juggling league priorities with European commitments and injury problems. As a result there are several factors quietly influencing outcomes across the division. These elements go beyond goals and points. They are shaping form, affecting team confidence and shifting expectations for supporters.

Understanding these hidden forces gives greater context to results. It also provides a clearer picture of how the title race, European qualification battle and relegation fight might play out.

Fixture congestion and its effects

One of the most talked-about challenges this season is the heavy workload for clubs involved in multiple competitions. Premier League teams that are still active in the Champions League, FA Cup and domestic league are being forced to play matches in rapid succession. This creates less time for recovery, more travelling and the need for careful squad rotation.

Arsenal’s involvement in the Champions League for example, has added rotational dilemmas to their schedule. They reached the quarter-finals after beating Bayer Leverkusen. This has extended their European commitments recently. That means players face back-to-back fixtures with little respite, making fitness management a key concern for Mikel Arteta’s coaching staff.

Managers often have to choose which competition to prioritise. Especially when league games follow closely on the heels of midweek European ties. This can disrupt the rhythm and lead to dropped points, even for sides with strong starting eleven options. These patterns influence betting markets as odds reflect not just current form but the anticipated impact of tight schedules on performance.

For followers of the Premier League who want to stay updated with how these dynamics affect match predictions and odds, using 1xbet apk download can help. It allows fans to monitor odds changes as teams cope with shifting demands on their players.

The ongoing impact of injuries

Injuries have been a prominent theme in the 2025-26 campaign. Clubs frequently have to alter their line-ups because of unavailable players. This has influenced consistency and results.

Several Premier League teams have reported significant fitness issues this season. Arsenal dealt with the absences of key players such as Kai Havertz, who was ruled out for a series of games due to a muscular injury. Similarly Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner recently revealed multiple injury problems in his squad ahead of a fixture against Manchester United.

Manchester United have also had to cope with a few injuries in recent weeks, necessitating changes to their starting line-up ahead of tight fixtures. These setbacks force managers to adjust tactics and rotate personnel more often than they would prefer.

Clubs with greater squad depth often cope better with these challenges. Those with fewer quality options beyond their core starting eleven can find it difficult to maintain consistent levels of performance. This inconsistency can lead to unpredictable results and as a result, fluctuating odds in betting markets.

The role of psychological pressure

Premier League football at this stage of the season is not just a physical battle. The mental side of the game has a major influence on results. Teams under pressure to secure the title or avoid relegation often show signs of nervousness or urgency that can affect how they play.

Arsenal’s title push for example, has seen them maintain a lead at the top of the table in recent weeks. A 2-0 win over Everton extended their advantage, while rivals like Manchester City dropped points in a draw with West Ham. This kind of pressure can test a squad’s ability to manage both excellence and expectation.

For clubs lower down the table, the stakes are different but no less intense. Each point becomes critical in the fight to avoid relegation and teams can become more cautious as a result. The mental burden of knowing that a single loss might plunge them further into trouble has a direct influence on how games are approached.

Managerial strategy and tactical nuance

Another often overlooked factor is the tactical approach taken by managers. Adjustments for specific opponents, clever substitutions and changes to formation can all have an outsized effect on matches.

A team that appears to be conscious of its next fixture may choose a more pragmatic approach in the present one. At the same time, managers who read a game well can turn around performances during the match by altering strategy. These decisions might not make headlines, but they influence outcomes and are reflected in how odds change before kick-off.

Even matches that look straightforward on paper can be upended by tactical nuance. Sometimes, a mid-table side will adopt a low block against a top side and secure a draw or even a narrow win that surprises both pundits and odds compilers. This requires detailed knowledge of team tendencies on the part of anyone analysing the league.

Why these hidden factors matter

As the Premier League season unfolds, simple league tables tell only part of the story. Fixture congestion, injuries, psychological pressure and tactical decisions all contribute to the complex reality that shapes results. For fans who follow the division closely, these elements add depth to the conversation.

Matches that seem set in stone can still produce surprises, especially when these hidden factors come into play. The final weeks of the season promise drama at both ends of the table. Understanding the full context behind results will help fans appreciate the stakes and the unpredictability that make the Premier League so compelling.

Arsenal player ratings: Kepa error & invisible Saka condemns Gunners to Man City defeat

22 March 2026 at 23:17

Arsenal have suffered a major setback with defeat in today’s Carabao Cup final against Manchester City.

The Gunners were pretty poor in every department, with goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga making a particularly bad error on Man City’s first goal, while attackers like Bukayo Saka, Kai Havertz, and Viktor Gyokeres didn’t contribute enough either.

Nico O’Reilly scored both goals for City as they went on to lift the trophy, and few will argue that they didn’t deserve it.

Read on for our Arsenal player ratings in a performance most of these players will want to forget fast…

Arsenal player ratings vs Manchester City

Kepa Arrizabalaga – 2/10 – Unconvincing on the ball, and unfortunately just always looked prone to an error, which eventually came when he failed to deal with the cross for the first goal. Surely an end to him starting big games for Arsenal.

William Saliba – 7/10 – Kept Erling Haaland quiet very well, and probably the only Arsenal player to come away with much credit as it’s hard to find much he did wrong on the day.

Gabriel Magalhaes – 6/10 – Not the worst player on the pitch by any means, but not his usual calm self on the ball, which made it hard for Arsenal to build from the back.

Ben White – 4/10 – While Ben White has been a great performer for much of his Arsenal career, it’s perhaps easy to see why Jurrien Timber is now the clear first choice when fit. Jeremy Doku ran White ragged for much of the game when you sense Timber might’ve done a bit better to keep the City winger quiet.

Piero Hincapie – 4/10 – Like White on the other side, it was a really unconvincing display from Piero Hincapie. The Ecuador international couldn’t handle Antoine Semenyo and probably should’ve been replaced by Riccardo Calafiori a lot earlier.

Martin Zubimendi – 5/10 – Just slightly off the pace and unable to control the midfield like he can do at his best. Martin Zubimendi is perhaps tired, more than anything else, after starting so many games in what has been a very intense season for Arsenal.

Declan Rice – 6/10 – Worked harder than a lot of his teammates, but didn’t bring as much quality as he’s capable of.

Kai Havertz – 4/10 – Probably not fit enough to be starting a big game like this, and it showed. Kai Havertz has a role to play in this Arsenal squad, and has been missed through injury, but it’s obvious that Eberechi Eze would have started and would surely have been more influential had he been fit enough.

Bukayo Saka – 3/10 – Considering he captained Arsenal on the day and is their highest paid player, this was really far from good enough from Bukayo Saka. The England winger was pretty much invisible throughout and has not quite looked himself for most of this season. To show up and play like this in such an important game is pretty unforgiveable.

Leandro Trossard – 4/10 – Pretty quiet, as he has been for a while now. Somehow not replaced by Gabriel Martinelli until the closing stages.

Viktor Gyokeres – 4/10 – Worked hard and caused City some problems with his movement early on, but you want more than that from your marquee striker signing in a major cup final.

Subs: Riccardo Calafiori 6, Noni Madueke 6, Gabriel Martinelli 5, Gabriel Jesus 6
