Mo Salah pens emotional farewell to Andy Robertson after Liverpool summer exit decision

Mohamed Salah has penned a moving tribute to his long-term teammate Andy Robertson, following the official confirmation that the Scottish defender will leave Liverpool at the end of the 2025/26 season.

The announcement, which came just weeks after Salah revealed his own plans to depart Anfield this summer, marks the definitive end of the most successful era in the club’s modern history.

Robertson, 32, will bring his nine-year stay on Merseyside to a close as a free agent, having won every major trophy available under the lights of Anfield.

Mohamed Salah posts heartfelt message for Andy Robertson

Taking to social media, Salah shared a series of images capturing their shared celebrations over the years.

The Egyptian forward, who enjoyed a special friendship with the Scot, did not hide his emotion.

“With these pictures showing the bond we shared, I almost felt I could get away with saying nothing about you leaving. It’s been an honour to be your teammate and your friend. You’ve won it all and you leave as a legend. I’m sure we will meet again.”

Robertson replied recognising the journey the duo have gone through together saying: “Been a hell of a journey my friend.”

With both icons set to exit in June, Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker remain as the final pillars of the 2019 Champions League-winning squad, though uncertainty continues to swirl around the long-term future of the captain as well.

Robertson, who has struggled for consistent minutes this season behind Milos Kerkez, admitted in his farewell statement that it is time to move on.

While he has been heavily linked with a move to Tottenham, subject to them avoiding relegation, Salah’s next destination remains a subject of intense global speculation.

As Liverpool head into their final seven games of a difficult campaign, the farewell period for two of their greatest ever servants begins this weekend against Fulham, where the Anfield faithful are expected to provide a thunderous reception for the departing legends.

Report: Tottenham in ‘pole position’ to sign 13 goals, 69 assists star in summer

Tottenham are the frontrunners to sign Liverpool stalwart Andy Robertson this summer, following the official confirmation that the defender will depart Anfield at the end of the 2025/26 campaign.

According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Spurs are in “pole position” to secure the 32-year-old on a free transfer, though the deal is contingent on the North London club retaining their Premier League status.

Robertson, a key star of Liverpool’s success for nearly a decade, has opted not to extend his contract, bringing his nine-year tenure on Merseyside to an emotional close.

Tottenham in pole position to sign Andy Robertson

While Tottenham are currently the lead contender, they face a significant hurdle. Currently sitting in 17th place and just one point above the relegation zone, Spurs must avoid the drop to the Championship to finalise the move.

Ornstein reports that the groundwork for this deal was laid during the January window when Spurs made a failed attempt to bring the Scotsman to the North London club.

While Robertson chose to see out the season at Anfield, the appeal of a fresh challenge in London has kept Spurs ahead of the pack.

However, they are not alone in their pursuit; European giants including Atletico Madrid, Napoli and Juventus are also monitoring the situation.

A return to Scotland with his boyhood club Celtic has also been rumored, though the player is said to be leaning toward remaining in a top-tier European league.

The end of an illustrious era

Robertson’s departure marks the end of a legendary chapter at Liverpool. Since his £8 million move from Hull City in 2017, the Scotland captain has won every major trophy available, including two Premier League titles and the Champions League.

With 373 appearances, 13 goals, and 69 assists, he departs as a Liverpool legend.

The timing of the announcement comes as Liverpool navigate a turbulent season, having recorded 15 defeats across all competitions.

With Mohamed Salah also confirmed to leave and Milos Kerkez increasingly favored by Arne Slot, Robertson admitted the time was right to move on. “I’ve put my heart and soul into this club for nine years,” Robertson said in his farewell message.

“I know football moves on, and I think now is the time for me to go wherever my next move takes me.”

End of the road: Man United prepare for the summer sale of attacker amid European interest

As Manchester United gear up for a pivotal summer transfer window, the future of Dutch forward Joshua Zirkzee hangs firmly in the balance.

According to Football Insider, the Red Devils are officially prepared to sanction his departure at the end of the 2025/26 campaign but only on the strict condition that the club’s recruitment department successfully secures a high-caliber replacement first.

The Dutchman joined the Premier League giants with high expectations but managerial changes and his poor form has not helped his cause.

Earlier in his Man United career, he was used as a back-up option for Rasmus Hojlund and now Benjamin Sesko is the new leader of the United attack, keeping Zirkzee down the pecking order.

Joshua Zirkzee continues to struggle at Man United

When the United hierarchy sanctioned the £35 million acquisition of Zirkzee from Bologna in the summer of 2024, he was expected to be the ideal signing for the club.

They were looking for an attacker who could bridge the gap between the attackers and the midfield.

His link-up play along with his presence upfront was highly rated and it was believed he could be the answer to United’s problems.

However, the transition to the frantic pace of the Premier League has proven to be a steep learning curve.

Across his time in Manchester, the 24-year-old has managed just nine goals in 69 appearances in all competitions.

His situation has only grown more complicated this season under interim manager Michael Carrick.

Dutchman is attracting interest from European clubs

Despite his struggles in England, Zirkzee’s stock remains remarkably high on the continent. The news of his potential availability has immediately sparked a massive bidding war.

A return to Italy appears to be the most logical escape route, with heavyweights such as Juventus, Napoli, AC Milan, and Atalanta all registering serious interest.

Even ambitious Serie A side Como are reportedly eyeing him as a statement signing.

Furthermore, Bundesliga clubs like Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund are closely monitoring his situation.

Zirkzee promised so much and delivered so little but it must be remembered that the environment at Old Trafford worked against him and failed to provide him the best platform to become successful.

Under-fire Arne Slot opens up on Liverpool future ahead of Fulham clash

The atmosphere surrounding Liverpool Football Club has been undeniably tense in recent weeks, but manager Arne Slot is determined to project a united front.

Speaking to the media ahead of Saturday’s crucial Premier League encounter against Fulham, the 47-year-old Dutchman directly addressed the mounting external speculation regarding his job security.

Fresh off a deeply disappointing 2-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League and amid swirling rumours connecting Xabi Alonso to the Anfield dugout, Slot offered a resolute defense of his position, emphasising the unwavering backing he continues to receive from both the club’s hierarchy and the supporters.

Arne Slot opens up on his Liverpool future

“I have said many times I feel a lot of support from the owners, as from Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards as well,” Slot stated firmly during his pre-match press conference, as reported by Fabrizio Romano.

This public acknowledgement of confidence from Fenway Sports Group’s (FSG) brain trust is highly significant.

Michael Edwards, the club’s CEO of Football, and Sporting Director Richard Hughes were instrumental figures in handpicking Slot to lead Liverpool’s new era.

Slot is highlighting a boardroom that remains committed to a long-term strategic vision rather than succumbing to knee-jerk reactions.

Despite the Reds’ recent domestic stumbles, defensive frailties, and the very real threat of missing out on Champions League qualification, the leadership at the club is confident in his abilities.

Reds boss is confident of support from the fans

“As weird as it might sound, I also feel the support of the fans.”

The Anfield faithful have endured a bruising stretch, witnessing a heavy FA Cup exit to Manchester City and a toothless, zero-shot-on-target display in the French capital.

Frustration on the terraces has naturally been palpable. Yet, Slot’s assertion suggests that the core, match-going fanbase recognises the sheer magnitude of the transitional period the club is navigating.

Rather than turning the stadium toxic, the supporters have largely afforded the Dutchman a vital grace period, recognising that rebuilding a title-winning machine requires immense patience.

Arsenal and Man United on alert as club green light discounted exit of 23-year-old defender

Top Premier League clubs are on alert after finding out about the availability of RB Leipzig defender Castello Lukeba.

According to TEAMtalk, RB Leipzig and the highly-rated 23-year-old centre-back have reached a mutual, amicable agreement that the upcoming transfer window is the optimal time to part ways.

This major development has immediately mobilised the recruitment departments at Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester United, setting the stage for a fierce bidding war.

Since arriving in Germany from Olympique Lyonnais in the summer of 2023, the French international has evolved into one of the most complete and coveted young defenders in European football.

RB Leipzig are ready to let Lukeba leave in the summer

While Lukeba’s current contract, which runs until 2029, includes a formidable release clause in the region of £70 million (€80m), sources indicate that the Bundesliga club is willing to negotiate below that premium figure.

Intermediaries have reportedly informed interested Premier League parties that Leipzig are prepared to sanction the transfer.

Cashing in on the 23-year-old allows Leipzig to successfully balance their books while retaining other prized emerging talents, such as highly sought-after winger Yan Diomande.

At Arsenal, sporting director Andrea Berta has reportedly already conducted extensive groundwork on the player, viewing him as a premium addition to further fortify Mikel Arteta’s title-chasing defense.

Arsenal face competition from Premier League rivals

Chelsea and Manchester United are equally invested in the race. The Blues have tracked Lukeba for over two years and see him as a necessary upgrade to resolve the defensive inconsistencies plaguing Stamford Bridge, especially with the futures of Benoit Badiashile and Trevoh Chalobah remaining unclear.

At Old Trafford, the Red Devils have long admired the Frenchman’s aggressive tackling and composure on the ball, viewing him as a foundational piece capable of instantly elevating their defensive unit for the 2026/27 campaign.

With RB Leipzig softening their financial stance and formally communicating his availability to the continent’s heavyweights, Lukeba is now available on the market.

The only question that remains is which Premier League giant can offer the most compelling project to secure his signature.

Genuine option: Man United make Bundesliga star their priority ahead of summer window

According to TEAMtalk, Manchester United have identified VfB Stuttgart’s highly-rated maestro, Angelo Stiller, as a genuine, priority option to anchor their engine room.

However, securing the signature of the 25-year-old German international will be far from a straightforward task, with heavy-hitters Liverpool and Newcastle United also preparing to aggressively contest the transfer.

With Man United looking to strengthen their midfield in the summer transfer window, Stiller has emerged as a serious option.

The Red Devils are set to lose Casemiro at the end of the season and that has turned their focus towards signing a new midfielder.

Man United to rebuild their midfield in the summer

For Man United, the impending summer window represents a critical juncture in their ongoing squad rebuild.

The Old Trafford hierarchy is acutely aware of the need to inject elite technical quality and defensive stability into a midfield that has frequently lacked a commanding presence this season.

Want more CaughtOffside coverage? Add us as a preferred source on Google to your favourites list for news you can trust

Stiller, a naturally left-footed defensive midfielder possessing exceptional vision, composure under pressure, and a phenomenal passing range, fits the exact profile required to dictate tempo from deep.

United have scouted him extensively throughout the 2025/2026 campaign and view him as a foundational piece for their long-term tactical evolution.

Red Devils face competition from Premier League rivals

The Red Devils, however, face formidable domestic competition. Liverpool are well-documented, long-term admirers of the former Bayern Munich academy graduate.

As they continue their exhaustive search for a premier No.6 to permanently balance their midfield, Stiller’s profile heavily appeals to the Anfield recruitment team.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United’s interest is driven by immediate tactical necessity.

With mounting uncertainty continuing to surround the long-term future of Sandro Tonali on Tyneside, the Magpies view a swoop for Stiller as a highly logical option.

The Stuttgart star would offer Eddie Howe a plug-and-play solution capable of instantly thriving in the Premier League’s physical environment.

The German club has reportedly slapped a rigid €50 million (roughly £43 million) price tag on their prized asset.

Arsenal monitor Premier League trio as Arteta prepares to make monumental changes

As Arsenal continue to build a squad capable of sustained domestic and European dominance, their recruitment department has reportedly set its sights on St James’ Park.

According to BBC, the Gunners are closely monitoring the situation of Newcastle United full-back Tino Livramento.

With the Magpies currently languishing in 12th place in the Premier League and facing the very real prospect of missing out on lucrative European football entirely, a summer fire sale on Tyneside is becoming increasingly probable.

Arsenal appear perfectly positioned to capitalise on this financial vulnerability, with the highly-rated England international topping their defensive wishlist.

Arsenal are in the market for a new full-back

Arsenal’s interest in the 23-year-old is heavily tied to the uncertain future of Ben White.

With White reportedly considering his options in search of more consistent playing time, sporting director Andrea Berta has identified Livramento as an ideal, long-term successor on the right side of the defense.

Despite his undeniable talent and attacking prowess, Livramento’s 2025/26 campaign has been severely disrupted by persistent injury issues.

Consequently, Arsenal’s hierarchy is carefully evaluating his medical history before fully committing to a formal approach.

Gunners have several Newcastle players on their radar

Interestingly, Livramento is not the only Newcastle star currently on Arsenal’s radar. The North London club’s ambitious summer plans reportedly involve a multi-player raid.

The Gunners retain a serious, long-standing interest in winger Anthony Gordon, having heavily considered a move for him in the summer of 2024.

Furthermore, Sandro Tonali has emerged as a potential target to bolster Mikel Arteta’s engine room.

Newcastle’s failure to secure Champions League football could force the Italian playmaker to seek an exit, with Arsenal holding preliminary talks with his representatives earlier this year.

However, the Magpies remain stubborn negotiators, reportedly demanding a staggering £100 million each for both Gordon and Tonali.

The Gunners are clearly prepared to aggressively exploit Newcastle’s current precarious standing to finalise their championship-winning puzzle.

Manager’s representative in attendance at PSG vs Liverpool raises questions over Slot’s future

Having already gone out of the Premier League title race months ago, Liverpool’s season is falling apart and Slot is struggling to save it.

Against PSG, the most significant development may not have occurred on the pitch, but rather in the VIP stands of the Parc des Princes.

Inaki Ibanez, the prominent agent representing highly coveted manager Xabi Alonso, was spotted in attendance after reportedly flying in via private jet from San Sebastian, according to Football Fan Cast.

Liverpool continue to sink deeper every week

Slot is currently navigating his darkest hour on Merseyside. The 2-0 defeat in the French capital was not just a poor result, it was a damning indictment of the team’s current tactical weakness.

The Champions League now represents the club’s final glimmer of hope for silverware this term, having already crashed out of all domestic cup competitions.

More worryingly, the defending Premier League champions find themselves in genuine danger of slipping out of the top four entirely.

Failing to qualify for next season’s Champions League would be viewed as a catastrophic failure by Fenway Sports Group (FSG), especially after the club sanctioned a massive financial outlay to reinforce the squad during the summer transfer window.

Arne Slot to get replaced by Alonso at Anfield?

Alonso holds emotional connection with the Liverpool fans. He was a successful midfielder during his time at the club and helped the club win the Champions League in 2005.

His managerial career has been impressive, even though he was relieved off his duties at Real Madrid just a few months in his tenure.

The Spaniard won the league title with Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga and ended Bayern Munich’s dominance in Germany.

With Alonso currently a free agent, eager to return to the dugout, and reportedly very open to taking the reins at his former club, Ibanez’s appearance in Paris is incredibly difficult to write off as a mere coincidence.

Injury setback for Tottenham star could potentially rule him out of the 2026 World Cup

Tottenham Hotspur’s desperate fight for Premier League survival has been dealt a catastrophic blow following the official confirmation that star winger Mohammed Kudus has suffered a major injury setback.

As newly appointed manager Roberto De Zerbi prepares to navigate a difficult end to the 2025/26 campaign, losing the marquee £55 million signing for the remainder of the season represents a worst-case scenario for a club currently hovering dangerously at the moment.

Spurs are dealing with the headache of Premier League relegation battle and they were hoping that the return of Kudus would provide them some relief.

However, as confirmed officially by the club, the attacker has suffered an injury setback and it could be harmful for his chances of playing in the World Cup.

Tottenham star is out of action since the start of the year

The 25-year-old Ghanaian international has been a glaring absentee since January 4th, when he was forced off with a severe quad injury during a 1-1 draw against Sunderland.

After enduring a grueling three-month rehabilitation period, Kudus had finally returned to first-team training earlier this week, sparking hope among the Spurs faithful that he would be available for the crucial domestic run-in.

But the club officially announced on Thursday that the forward has severely aggravated the injury.

Tottenham’s medical staff confirmed that Kudus will require further specialist review, with the very high probability of surgery ruling him out for the rest of the domestic calendar.

Kudus injury is the first setback under Roberto De Zerbi

The timing of this medical issue could not be worse for the North London outfit.

Currently languishing in 17th place, Tottenham are embroiled in a terrifying relegation dogfight, sitting just a solitary point above the drop zone.

Following the dismissal of Thomas Frank in February, Roberto De Zerbi was drafted in to salvage the season and implement his unique, possession-heavy style.

Deprived of the winger’s services, Spurs suddenly look incredibly short of proven match-winners in the final third.

The shockwaves of this setback extend far beyond Hotspur Way, significantly impacting the upcoming international landscape.

Kudus is the undisputed talisman for the Ghana national team, and this looming surgery places his participation in this summer’s 2026 FIFA World Cup in severe jeopardy.

Aston Villa join race for 23-year-old Man City star wanted by top Premier League clubs

Aston Villa are aggressively laying the groundwork for their summer transfer window, with Manchester City’s wantaway goalkeeper James Trafford emerging as a primary target.

According to a report from Football Insider, Unai Emery’s side are spearheading the queue to secure the 23-year-old England international, who has grown increasingly frustrated with his severe lack of playing time at the Etihad Stadium.

As Villa look to cement their status as Champions League regulars, signing a high-ceiling, domestic talent like Trafford represents a shrewd piece of long-term succession planning for the ambitious Midlands club.

James Trafford is struggling for playing time at Man City

Trafford’s current predicament at Man City is a tale of immense frustration.

The young shot-stopper re-joined Pep Guardiola’s ranks just last summer after City activated a £31 million buy-back clause to pry him away from Burnley, notably hijacking Newcastle United’s advanced move in the process.

Trafford arrived with the expectation of heavily competing for the number one shirt, only to have the rug pulled out from under him when the club subsequently secured Italian superstar Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Relegated largely to domestic cup cameos and watching from the bench, the 23-year-old is now desperate to find a club that can guarantee him regular Premier League minutes to further his international ambitions.

While Emiliano Martínez remains a cult hero and a formidable presence between the sticks, the Argentine is advancing in his career, and whispers regarding his long-term future continue to circulate.

Integrating a modern, ball-playing goalkeeper like Trafford, who boasts excellent distribution skills perfectly suited to Emery’s tactical setup, would seamlessly future-proof Villa’s defense.

Furthermore, Trafford himself is reportedly highly receptive to the move.

Despite reignited interest from long-term admirers Newcastle United, the lure of Champions League football and the opportunity to develop under Unai Emery has firmly tipped the scales in Villa’s favor.

Sources indicate that Trafford is officially prioritising a move to Villa Park over St James’ Park.

Arsenal interest in Julian Alvarez is genuine but they can only sign him on one condition

As the summer transfer window approaches, Arsenal’s relentless ambition to refine their attacking ranks has increased with Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez firmly on their radar.

The Argentine World Cup winner has reportedly caught the attention of Mikel Arteta’s recruitment team, who view him as a potential game-changer, according to BBC.

However, transforming this genuine boardroom interest into a concrete, blockbuster bid is far from a straightforward process.

The Gunners face a significant logistical and financial roadblock: they must first facilitate the departure of either Viktor Gyokeres or Kai Havertz before they can formally step up their pursuit of the Argentine international.

Alvarez has impressed the hierarchy at Arsenal

The Atletico Madrid striker showed his talent this week once again when he scored a beautfiul free-kick against Barcelona in the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinal at Camp Nou.

Want more CaughtOffside coverage? Add us as a preferred source on Google to your favourites list for news you can trust

Since departing Manchester City for the Spanish capital, the dynamic forward has continued to showcase the elite pressing, tactical intelligence, and clinical edge that originally made him a standout in the Premier League.

For Arteta, whose tactical system relies heavily on fluid, hard-working attackers who can initiate a high press, Alvarez represents the ultimate profile.

Capable of operating seamlessly as a traditional number nine, a second striker, or even drifting out wide, he offers a level of versatility that perfectly matches with Arsenal’s fluid offensive philosophy.

Gunners need to offload an attacker to sign Alvarez

The striking department at the Emirates is already heavily stocked with premium talent.

Havertz has firmly established himself as a highly effective, multifaceted forward in North London silencing early critics with his crucial goals, aerial presence, and intelligent link-up play.

Simultaneously, the presence of Gyokeres provides the Gunners with a physically imposing, traditional focal point who thrives on direct service.

Accommodating three marquee, high-earning center-forwards is highly problematic.

Not only is it a recipe for inevitable dressing room discontent over restricted playing minutes, but it also presents a significant hurdle regarding the Premier League’s strict Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

With the summer transfer window approaching, the Gunners’ boardroom maneuvering will be tested to its absolute limits.

This prolonged uncertainty has now opened the door to one of Europe’s most coveted tacticians, with widespread reports indicating that Xabi Alonso has held exploratory talks with the club.

According to Football Transfers, the Spanish manager has held talks with Man United, along with other top clubs who are looking for a new manager.

As United push for a Champions League return, the board faces a defining choice between the comforting stability of a club legend and the elite pedigree of a continental heavyweight.

Across his 10 games in charge, the former United midfielder has overseen an impressive return of seven wins, two draws, and a solitary defeat.

Currently sitting third in the Premier League, just a point above Aston Villa, United have the momentum, yet the INEOS-led board is resolutely refusing to make a knee-jerk appointment before thoroughly surveying the managerial landscape.

Xabi Alonso to make controversial Old Trafford move?

The former Liverpool midfielder is constantly linked with the Anfield job due to the uncertain future of Arne Slot.

However, latest reports are suggesting that a move to Old Trafford cannot be ruled out.

Alonso is eager to return to the dugout and has already held preliminary discussions with Manchester United, alongside other European heavyweights including Manchester City, Benfica, and Porto.

Similarly, PSG have reportedly earmarked him as their primary target should Luis Enrique depart for Real Madrid.

Consequently, if United truly want Alonso, they are effectively entering a high-stakes, multi-club bidding war.

Whether United opt to reward Carrick’s undeniable domestic revival or pivot toward Alonso’s proven tactical ceiling, the final decision will undoubtedly shape the entire trajectory of the INEOS era.

Enzo Fernandez saga at Chelsea takes unexpected turn following controversial comments

The ongoing saga surrounding Enzo Fernandez’s future at Chelsea has taken a conciliatory turn, with the Argentine midfielder and his representatives issuing a formal apology to the club, according to Sky Sports.

The controversy, which saw Fernandez publicly express his admiration for the city of Madrid, sent shockwaves through Stamford Bridge and culminated in swift disciplinary action from the managerial staff.

While both sides are now attempting to mend fences and restore harmony to the dressing room, the episode has laid bare the tensions regarding stalled contract negotiations and the ever-present, looming shadow of Real Madrid.

Chelsea punished Fernandez for his Madrid-related comments

The drama initially ignited during the recent international break.

While speaking to Argentine media, Fernandez openly admitted that he would welcome the opportunity to live in the Spanish capital, affectionately citing its cultural and climatic similarities to Buenos Aires.

These comments were particularly alarming for the Chelsea hierarchy because they arrived immediately on the back of the club’s heavy Champions League exit at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain.

Following that defeat, the midfielder had cast significant doubt over his commitment to the West London project, worryingly replying “I don’t know” when pressed about whether he would remain at the club next season.

Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior responded to the media circus with decisive authority. Declaring that “a line was crossed” regarding the club’s strict internal culture, Rosenior opted to make a major statement by dropping his star midfielder.

Fernandez’s agent conveyed the real issue

Fernandez’s agent recently shed light on the situation, revealing that discussions over a lucrative contract extension collapsed recently.

Despite the World Cup winner currently being tied down to an unprecedented deal that runs until 2032, his camp firmly believes his current stature and midfield output warrant a significant pay rise.

With a mutual agreement failing to materialise, his representatives have issued a thinly veiled ultimatum: they plan to revisit the negotiation table after the upcoming 2026 World Cup, but if appropriate terms cannot be met, they will be forced to “explore other options.”

This stance has inevitably placed Real Madrid on high alert. The Spanish giants are notoriously in the market for a marquee midfield signing this summer, and the £100m-rated Argentine remains one of their primary targets.

For the time being, the immediate fires appear to have been extinguished following apology from the player and his agent.

Report: Arsenal looking to recoup £100m from the shock sale of talented duo

Despite securing both Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly to long-term contracts just last summer, Arsenal are now actively preparing to listen to offers for the prized academy graduates, according to BBC.

As the Gunners seek to fund their continued evolution under Mikel Arteta, the harsh realities of the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) have placed two of English football’s brightest prospects squarely on the auction block.

The young English duo were expected to be a part of the Gunners squad for years to come, however, the Premier League leaders have changed their transfer market strategy and they are now ready to listen to offers for the young, talented duo.

Arsenal are looking to balance their books

For clubs navigating the complex tightrope of PSR, academy products represent the ultimate financial golden ticket.

Because neither Nwaneri nor Lewis-Skelly commanded an initial transfer fee when joining the club’s youth ranks, any revenue generated from their departures would be recorded as “pure profit” on Arsenal’s balance sheet.

Want more CaughtOffside coverage? Add us as a preferred source on Google to your favourites list for news you can trust

Consequently, Arsenal’s boardroom has slapped a formidable £100 million combined minimum price tag on the duo, confident that the market will meet their valuation for such high-ceiling, homegrown talent.

What next for Nwaneri and Lewis-Skelly?

The potential exit of 19-year-old Nwaneri is perhaps the most shocking revelation for a fanbase deeply invested in the Hale End pathway.

Having famously become the youngest player in Premier League history, the attacking midfielder has spent the 2025/26 season gaining vital senior experience on loan at Marseille.

However, the meteoric rise of 16-year-old sensation Max Dowman has reportedly reshuffled Arteta’s long-term attacking hierarchy, leaving Nwaneri’s route to regular first-team football heavily congested.

Borussia Dortmund, a club synonymous with transforming young English starlets into global superstars, such as Jude Bellingham and Jadon Sancho, have registered concrete interest.

Similarly, Lewis-Skelly finds himself at a developmental impasse. Despite his undeniable technical quality and midfield versatility, the teenager has slipped down the defensive pecking order.

A host of top-half Premier League sides have already expressed varying degrees of interest, sensing a rare opportunity to poach a highly tactical talent who is ready for immediate first-team action.

Liverpool owners make Arne Slot decision as season enters decisive phase

Following another disappointing defeat this week, external scrutiny surrounding Arne Slot’s position in the Anfield dugout has inevitably intensified.

However, according to an exclusive report from The Telegraph, the club’s boardroom stance remains resolutely unchanged.

Fenway Sports Group (FSG) retains absolute confidence in the 47-year-old Dutchman and firmly intends for him to lead the club into the 2026/27 campaign.

Liverpool struggles have increased recently

The reaffirmation of FSG’s backing arrives during a particularly challenging juncture for the Merseyside giants.

Recent weeks have seen Liverpool endure a frustrating dip in domestic form, culminating in heavy setbacks, most notably their bruising 4-0 FA Cup elimination at the hands of Manchester City.

In the Champions League, they suffered a 2-0 defeat against Paris Saint-Germain at PArc des Princes.

For a fanbase that grew intimately accustomed to the relentless, heavy-metal success of the Jurgen Klopp era, this extended transitional phase has sparked murmurs of discontent across social media and the terraces.

Owners have decided to back manager Arne Slot

Yet, inside the corridors of power at Anfield, panic is entirely absent.

FSG has historically favoured long-term stability over the managerial merry-go-round, famously exercising immense patience during the early stages of previous regimes.

The executives remain deeply impressed by Slot’s meticulous training ground methods, his commitment to a progressive style of play, and his level-headed demeanor under intense media scrutiny.

Rather than pulling the plug at the first sign of sustained adversity, they are prepared to give him the necessary time and resources to mold the squad to his exact specifications.

While the immediate focus must be on arresting the current slump and securing a strong finish to the 2025/26 Premier League season, the long-term mandate is clear.

Slot will be granted the upcoming summer transfer window to further refine his squad and clear out any remaining deadwood.

AZ Alkmaar midfielder Kees Smit is quickly emerging as one of the most sought-after young talents ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.

The 20-year-old Dutch playmaker has drawn widespread attention for his creativity, composure on the ball, and ability to dictate attacking play, qualities that have led some observers to compare him to Kevin De Bruyne, one of the modern era’s most influential midfielders.

Interest in Smit is not limited to a single league, sources close to the agents industry have informed CaughtOffside.

Several major European clubs are reportedly monitoring his development closely, with Newcastle United, Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool, Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Chelsea all linked to the talented youngster.

With AZ Alkmaar believed to value the player in the region of €45-50 million, the coming months could see a fierce transfer battle unfold.

The youngster has made 42 appearances for the Dutch club in all competitions this season.

Smit’s rise has been driven by his technical intelligence and ability to influence matches in the final third. Operating primarily as an attacking midfielder, he has impressed scouts with his vision, passing range, and awareness of space.

His ability to deliver precise forward passes and create scoring opportunities has been a standout feature of his performances for AZ Alkmaar.

The comparison to De Bruyne stems from his knack for unlocking defenses with well-timed through balls and his confidence in advanced positions.

The Eredivisie has long been recognised as a breeding ground for creative talent, and recent history shows that midfielders who perform consistently in the Dutch league often attract interest from Europe’s top clubs.

Man United part of race to sign the Dutch midfielder

Man United are also believed to be assessing Smit as part of their midfield restructuring plans.

Man United’s scouting department has reportedly been monitoring several emerging talents across Europe.

Newcastle United, who have reportedly tracked the midfielder for an extended period, are also active in the race.

Meanwhile, Arsenal and Liverpool have both been keeping close watch on his progress.

Arsenal’s emphasis on technical midfielders and Liverpool’s continued evolution under a new tactical direction make both clubs logical suitors.

Beyond England, Spanish powerhouses Barcelona and Real Madrid have also taken note of Smit’s development.

Chelsea have also been mentioned among the clubs observing Smit’s progress.

While the London side view him as a player with significant potential, some observers believe they see him as a project who may require further refinement before reaching his peak level.

Tottenham offer bigger wages to lure in-demand 28-year-old Argentine star

Marcos Senesi has been linked with a move away from Bournemouth in recent weeks, and Juventus are keen on securing his signature.

The Argentine defender will be a free agent at the end of June, and the 28-year-old is a target for multiple top clubs. According to a report from Italian publication Tuttosport, Juventus have offered him €3 million per season for four years. Tottenham ready to offer premium wages to Senesi

The report claims that Tottenham want to sign Senesi, and they are willing to offer him €4 million per season. Tottenham need more quality and depth, and signing a Premier League defender would be ideal. He is well settled in English football, and he could adapt quickly. Tottenham have been quite vulnerable at the back this season, and signing a central defender will be a priority.

In addition, Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven have been linked with moves away from the club. Radu Dragusin could be on his way out of the club as well. He has struggled for regular opportunities at the London club, and he needs to play more often. Tottenham will need to replace the Romanian International if he moves on.

Can Spurs sign Senesi?

Signing the 28-year-old South American on a free transfer would be a masterstroke for them.

It remains to be seen whether they can convince the defender to join the club. They are clearly better placed financially compared to Juventus. However, they are fighting for survival in the Premier League, and the defender might prefer to join a club where he can fight for major trophies.

Senesi has also been linked with Liverpool.

Christian Kofane could be on the move during the summer transfer window, and several clubs are interested in him.

Liverpool could use Christian Kofane

Liverpool need more quality and depth in the attacking unit. It is no surprise that they are keen on the young Bundesliga attacker. They have good terms with Bayer Leverkusen, and it will be interesting to see if they can sign the 19-year-old in the summer. The two clubs worked on the transfers of Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong earlier this season. They have amicable terms, and Liverpool will help to capitalise on that and get the deal done.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are very interested in securing his signature as well. The report claims that they have a serious interest in the forward and they have been scouting him extensively. They need more depth in the attacking unit. Viktor Gyokeres has had a mixed campaign, and he needs more support in the attack. More competition could bring out the best in the team.

Kofane would be a long-term investment for both clubs, and he has the ability to succeed in the Premier League. The opportunity to join Arsenal or Liverpool will be hard to turn down for him.

Manchester City are monitoring his situation as well, and it remains to be seen whether they decide to make an acceptable offer.

Chelsea and Tottenham “making constant enquiries” for attacker, Spurs could offer €14m

Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea are interested in signing Ian Subiabre from River Plate.

According to journalist Hernan Castillo, the two Premier League clubs are making constant enquiries for the 19-year-old wide player, and it remains to be seen whether they can get the deal done in the summer.

Ian Subiabre set for summer move

“River is going to have a strong market in the middle of the year. They will spend, but they will also bring in money because it is very difficult for them to keep Subiabre. Very difficult. He has too much interest already.

“I know that Tottenham, Chelsea, Villarreal, Lazio are making constant enquiries. And now Tottenham are very strong.

“I know that for Subiabre, besides the people who represent him, there has already been an €8m (£6.9m) offer that River rejected. And Tottenham are thinking about €12m or €14m (£10.4m-£12.2m).”

Tottenham and Chelsea could use Subiabre

If Tottenham can sign him for a fee of around €14 million, it would represent a major bargain for them. The 19-year-old is a tremendous talent with a bright future, and he could easily justify the investment. Tottenham need more quality on the flanks, and Subiabre will add unpredictability and technical ability in the final third. He has three goals and three assists in 35 matches for River Plate.

Similarly, Chelsea needs a player of his quality. Subiabre could compete with Alejandro Garnacho and Jamie Gittens next season.

The opportunity to move to England will be exciting for the South American attacker. It would be a huge step up in his career, and he would get to test himself at a high level. Regular football in England could help him improve further.

Chelsea and Tottenham have the financial muscle to get the deal over the line, and it remains to be seen which club can convince the player. He should look to join a club with a clear pathway to the first team and a defined role in the side. He needs to play regularly in order to continue his development. Sitting on the bench at a big club would be detrimental to his development.

Regular football in the Premier League could be ideal for his development as well. It could bring out the best in him and accelerate his development.

Tottenham have an amicable relationship with RB Leipzig, and it remains to be seen whether the two clubs can negotiate a deal in the summer.

The Belgian midfielder needs regular opportunities at the German club, and it would be ideal for him to move on if they cannot provide the necessary assurances.

Morgan Rogers will cost a premium

According to a report from The Times, Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea are keen on the player, and they would have to pay over £80 million in order to get the deal done. Aston Villa do not want to lose the player, but they will sanction his departure if a suitable fee is presented.

It remains to be seen whether any of the three clubs is willing to pay over £80 million for him. The England international is a prodigious talent with a bright future. He has all the tools to develop into a future superstar, and he could justify the investment. Given the inflation in the transfer market, the asking price for Rogers is hardly a surprise.

Rogers would improve all three clubs

Manchester United have been overly dependent on Bruno Fernandes over the years. They need more depth in that area of the pitch, and Rogers would be a solid long-term acquisition. He will add goals and creativity to the team. Rogers has 27 goals and 24 assists in 114 matches for Aston Villa.

On the other hand, Arsenal signed Eberechi Eze, but he has not been able to live up to the expectations. Martin Odegaard has not been at his best this season either. Signing another attacking midfielder could prove wise. They are pushing for the league title and the UEFA Champions League. They need elite talents in order to continue competing at the highest level.

As far as Chelsea is concerned, they need more creativity in the final third. Players like Alejandro Garnacho and Jamie Gittens have been underwhelming. They have had to rely on Cole Palmer too often, and he needs more support. Rogers could be the ideal addition for them.

Liverpool plot move for former Slot connection, but they need to pay £66 million

Liverpool attacker Mohamed Salah has announced that he will leave the club at the end of the season, and they will need to replace him properly.

The Egyptian has been an indispensable asset for the club over the last few years, helping them win several trophies. He is undoubtedly a club legend and one of the best attacking players in Premier League history.

Replacing him will be a tricky task for Liverpool. According to a report from The Daily Mail, Liverpool is looking at the Brighton attacker Yankuba Minteh.

Liverpool to move for Yankuba Minteh?

The 21-year-old worked with Arne Slot at Feyenoord, and Liverpool are interested in signing him. However, they would have to pay a premium. Brighton paid £33 million to sign the player, and they want to double their money on him. It remains to be seen whether Liverpool is prepared to break the Bank for him.

There is no doubt that he is a quality player, but the asking price is quite high. Liverpool needs to improve multiple areas of the team, and spending £66 million on the 21-year-old attacker might not be ideal.

Also, he is a young player with a lot of promise, but his product does not justify the price tag. Minteh has six goal contributions this season.

Andrew Robertson set to leave

The defender will be a free agent in the summer, and Liverpool have decided to let him move on. It will be interesting to see where he ends up. The player has now confirmed that he had opportunities to leave the club in recent months, but he has decided to stay until the end of the season.

He said to LFCTV: “I think I feel better now that it’s out in the open. The hardest bit [in] the last certainly couple of weeks and months is some people that are close to me in the training ground don’t know and more importantly, the fans. The closer it gets, the more and more questions you start to get.

“I’ve always said that the fans are the most important people at this club and I just think now is the time to tell them what’s going on and that obviously this will be my last year.

“But the time to have the emotional farewell and tell the fans and the people connected to this club what they mean to me, that will come closer to the end. I don’t think I’m quite ready for that yet. It’s just to try to get it out there so I can now be open and honest with everyone.

“Look, I think it has been well-documented, especially over the last year or so, I’ve had opportunities to leave and I’ve not taken them because of how difficult it is to leave this club.

“And I wouldn’t change that for the world. But I know football moves on, I know teams move on and I think now is the time for me to move on and go wherever my next move is and wherever my career takes me.”

The opportunity to continue in the Premier League will be exciting for the Scottish international. He is still good enough to compete at the highest level, and he will look to establish himself as an important player for Tottenham if the move goes through.

Liverpool need to keep Ibrahima Konate

The 26-year-old has been a key player for Liverpool since joining the club, and keeping him at the club for the long term would be ideal. Liverpool have been quite poor defensively this season, and they cannot afford to weaken the team in the summer.

Also, losing a player like him on a free transfer would have been a devastating blow.

Meanwhile, the French International has not been at his best this season and needs to improve his performance. With his long-term future sorted, it is fair to assume that the 26-year-old will be able to focus on his football and recapture his peak form.

Former Chelsea defender Khalid Boulharouz believes the move to Tottenham is a good fit for him. There is no doubt that the 25-year-old has shown his quality in the Netherlands, and he’s ready for the next step. Moving to the Premier League could be ideal for his development. He would get to play alongside better players and compete at the highest level.

“If I look at Saibari, he really played the entire Eredivisie. If you look at his statistics and his style of play, that is good enough to make a transfer.”

“He is a Moroccan international, has an Africa Cup behind him, and is going to play in a World Cup. Assuming he is a starter and plays well in two matches, you’re simply done. Then you have to push through,” said Boulahrouz to Voetbal Primeur.

He added: “Saibari needs to go to an attacking team, where he can thrive. A nice club; they aren’t doing well at all, but he can add something extra to Tottenham Hotspur. I would go to a club where he can be important.”

Real Madrid is also keen on Ramon

Meanwhile, the player has also been linked with Real Madrid. The Spanish club has a buyback option of €9 million in his contract. That certainly gives them an advantage over the Premier League clubs. It remains to be seen whether Real Madrid will bring him back to the club at the end of the season.

They need defensive depth, especially with Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba in the twilight stages of their careers.

Arsenal and Chelsea will certainly be able to offer a lot more than Real Madrid, and the player is reportedly valued at €25 million. He has a contract with the Italian club until 2030, and they will not want to lose him easily. However, the buyback clause will leave them powerless to stop Ramon from joining Real Madrid.

They are, however, in a position to stop Arsenal and Chelsea from signing the player. It remains to be seen how the situation develops over the next few weeks.

Liverpool identify €50m Salah successor as Arsenal & Man United step up transfer talks

Bazoumana Toure has done quite well for Hoffenheim, and he is on the radar of multiple Premier League clubs ahead of the summer transfer window.

According to a report from FussballDaten, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester United are closely monitoring the talented attacker, and they could look to make a move in the summer.

The asking price for the player is likely to be around €50 million in the summer, and it remains to be seen whether the Premier League clubs are prepared to break the Bank for him.

Liverpool needs a quality long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah, and they have identified the Ivorian as a potential successor. They scouted the player during the international break, when Ivory Coast faced Scotland in March.

Meanwhile, Manchester United are looking to add more dynamism to the attacking unit as well. They believe that the technically gifted attacker could be an ideal acquisition. They have already had initial talks over a potential move.

Arsenal are also looking to add more depth on the flanks. Noni Madueke and Eberechi Eze have not been able to live up to the expectations, and Arsenal need more quality in the final third. They are looking to build a team capable of consistently winning major trophies, and they need more cutting-edge in the attack.

The player is reportedly seeking wages of around €5 million per season if he moves to the Premier League. It is fair to assume that the English clubs have the financial resources to accept his demands. It will be interesting to see if they are prepared to pay the asking price for him. He has a contract with Hoffenheim until 2029, and the German club is under no pressure to sanction his departure at a bargain price.

Chelsea ready to gamble with move for €26m La Liga star they wanted in 2025

Chelsea is looking to sign the Barcelona midfielder Marc Casado at the end of the season.

The 22-year-old midfielder has been a long-term target for the London club, and they wanted to sign him a year ago. However, the player chose to remain with his boyhood club at the time. The situation has changed now, and he has struggled for regular opportunities at the Spanish club this season.

According to reports from Spain, Casado is now open to leaving the La Liga outfit, and moving to Chelsea could be interesting for him. The Blues are looking to add more quality and depth in the middle of the park. They believe that the 22-year-old midfielder could be a reliable backup option for Moises Caicedo.

The player’s agent, Jorge Mendes, is currently working intensively to find a suitable club for his client. It remains to be seen whether the move to Chelsea appeals to the player.

He will want to play regularly at this stage of his career, and Chelsea will need to provide a defined role to the player. Meanwhile, the midfielder is valued at €26 million. Everton stance on Jack Grealish and the importance of the £50 million purchase option

Everton want to keep Jack Grealish at the club after his loan spell from Manchester City this season.

Following a high-profile, season-long loan move from Man City last August, the 30-year-old playmaker quickly set about revitalising his career at Everton.

However, recent reports from The Athletic have confirmed that the Toffees have absolutely no intention of triggering the £50 million permanent purchase option embedded in his loan agreement.

Yet, despite this firm financial stance, the mood at the Hill Dickinson Stadium remains overwhelmingly optimistic.

Club executives are reportedly highly confident that a revised agreement can be struck to keep the England international on Merseyside for the foreseeable future.

Everton want to keep the English star at the club

Grealish made a blistering start to life under manager David Moyes, instantly elevating Everton’s creative output and forming a formidable attacking dynamic.

Unfortunately, his remarkable resurgence was cruelly interrupted in January when a stress fracture to his left foot effectively ended his campaign.

Given his ongoing injury layoff and the ever-looming threat of the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR), committing a flat £50 million fee to a 30-year-old represents a financial risk the Everton board is simply unwilling to take.

Furthermore, integrating his reported £300,000-per-week wages into the club’s permanent wage structure requires careful navigation.

What next for Jack Grealish?

However, Everton’s top brass are playing a strategic waiting game. With Grealish entering the final year of his contract at the Etihad next season, Man City are increasingly desperate to clear his substantial salary from their books.

With few other clubs willing to take a gamble on an injured player with massive wage demands, Everton hold significant leverage in the boardroom.

Sources suggest the Merseyside outfit is preparing to propose a heavily reduced permanent transfer, potentially in the much more manageable £15 million to £20 million bracket, or alternatively, a fresh loan arrangement for the 2026/27 season.

Summerville has impressed at West Ham this season

Since arriving from Leeds United in August 2024 for a fee exceeding £25 million, the 24-year-old has evolved into a vital attacking asset.

Despite West Ham’s collective inconsistencies this season under Nuno Espírito Santo, Summerville has been a revelation on the left flank.

Racking up seven goals across 27 appearances in all competitions, his directness, pace, and creative output have been a rare bright spark, single-handedly keeping the East London club’s faint survival hopes alive on numerous occasions.

For a progressive, attack-minded side like Aston Villa, injecting Summerville’s flair into their forward line presents a highly attractive proposition as they look to build on their own European ambitions.

Aston Villa move depends on West Ham’s future

The crux of Aston Villa’s pursuit heavily depends on West Ham’s top-flight status come May.

Financial experts and insiders suggest that if the Hammers suffer relegation to the Championship, it could trigger a massive squad exodus to balance the books and comply with financial constraints.

Summerville is currently valued in the region of £26 million, but that asking price could plummet drastically if West Ham drop down a division, making him a potential bargain for the Midlands club.

However, Villa will not have a free run at the coveted winger.

They face incredibly stiff competition for his services. Domestic rivals including Tottenham Hotspur, Everton, Bournemouth, and Brentford are all monitoring the situation closely.

West Ham United ready to reject summer sale of player wanted by Man United

As West Ham United fight tooth and nail for Premier League survival under manager Nuno Espírito Santo, their players are attracting interest from top clubs.

In a grueling campaign that currently sees the Hammers sitting 18th and battling the drop, 21-year-old midfielder Mateus Fernandes has emerged as a rare, undeniable bright spot.

His dynamic, all-action performances have inevitably caught the eye of the Premier League’s elite, sparking widespread speculation about a summer departure.

However, according to recent reports from TEAMtalk, West Ham’s hierarchy has drawn a definitive line in the sand, they have absolutely no intention of letting their Portuguese maestro leave this summer, regardless of their top-flight status.

West Ham United star is wanted by top Premier League clubs

The list of clubs vying for Fernandes’s signature is rapidly expanding, with Man United heavily featured in the conversation.

The Red Devils are reportedly keen on acquiring the midfielder as they look to overhaul their engine room.

This interest has been significantly amplified by glowing endorsements from their captain, Bruno Fernandes, who has reportedly pinpointed his young compatriot and former Sporting CP academy product as his ideal long-term successor at Old Trafford.

But United are far from alone in their admiration. Manchester City’s sporting director, Hugo Viana, who is well acquainted with the youngster from their mutual time in Portugal, is said to be monitoring him as a potential replacement for the departing Bernardo Silva.

Hammers have clear stance on the Portuguese midfielder

Despite the intense external pressure and the looming threat of the Championship, West Ham remain firm in their stance.

Having invested a massive fee in excess of £40 million to bring Fernandes to East London from Southampton in 2024, the Hammers view the 21-year-old as the absolute cornerstone of their long-term project.

While the club’s recruitment team is busy drafting contingency plans for a potential relegation, Fernandes is entirely exempt from any anticipated fire sale.

It would take a truly astronomical bid just to bring the club to the negotiating table. As the summer approaches, West Ham appear more than ready to dig their heels in and build their future around their standout star.

‘Would be the best fit’ – Legendary defender names ideal Arne Slot replacement at Liverpool

Liverpool boss Arne Slot continues to come under criticism for his team’s performance.

Their latest result is a 2-0 defeat against defending Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain who completely outplayed the Premier League side at Parc des Princes.

In a performance and tactical setup that surprised fans and pundits, Slot’s side were completely clueless and had no answer to Luis Enrique’s team.

Infact, it is a result that the Reds must be happy with considering the difference of quality between both the sides and considering how PSG could have easily won with a bigger margin.

The future of Slot is coming under scrutiny, unsurprisingly, and former Italy defender and World Cup winner Marco Materazzi has claimed that former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca would be the ideal manager for the Merseyside club.

Marco Materazzi sees Enzo Maresca at Liverpool

The former Italy defender was discussing the clubs Italian manager Maresca could join in the future.

Want more CaughtOffside coverage? Add us as a preferred source on Google to your favourites list for news you can trust

Having departed Chelsea at the start of the year, he has been linked with a number of jobs.

The most high-profile one is the Manchester City job, where Maresca has been linked with replacing legendary manager Pep Guardiola.

Materazzi told Hajper, as reported by Metro:

‘Can Enzo Maresca make Real Madrid into champions again? Yes, why not!

‘He speaks very good Spanish because he was at Sevilla, but I think Maresca also has a good opportunity to get a job in the Premier League for next season too.

Newcastle United? Not for me. Manchester United would be a good move for Maresca but he’s too connected to Manchester City to make that happen.

‘I think Liverpool would be the best fit for Enzo Maresca. He is the perfect coach to lead a rebuild at Liverpool to create a new vision for the team.’

What next for the Merseyside club?

Maresca would be an interesting choice to replace Slot at Anfield. The manager was impressive at Chelsea and helped them win silverware but his relationship with the board was not the best and that lead to his departure from Stamford Bridge.

The favourite to replace Slot at Liverpool remains former Reds fan favourite Xabi Alonso, who is currently a free agent following his departure from Real Madrid earlier in the season.

It has been widely reported that Alonso remains the club’s number one choice but nothing is certain at the moment.

Most managers would love to have a chance to manage Liverpool, considering their pedigree in European football and their illustrious history.

Maresca certainly knows the league well but if he is given the choice to manage Man City or Liverpool, he would most likely choose the former due to his past connection at the Etihad working as an assistant under Guardiola.

Report: Newcastle United shortlist Real Madrid attacker as serious option for summer window

Newcastle United’s relentless search for attacking reinforcements has reportedly led them to the Spanish capital, with Real Madrid’s highly-rated forward Gonzalo Garcia emerging as a serious summer target.

According to recent reports from TEAMtalk, the Magpies are conducting extensive groundwork to secure the 22-year-old’s signature.

As manager Eddie Howe looks to execute a major squad rebuild ahead of the 2026/27 campaign, injecting fresh, clinical quality into the final third has become the undisputed priority for the club’s recruitment department.

Newcastle United still dealing with void left by Isak

The context surrounding Newcastle’s desperation for a marquee striker is impossible to ignore.

Following the British-record £125 million sale of Alexander Isak to Liverpool last summer, the Tyneside club has visibly struggled to replicate his prolific attacking output.

Despite heavy investments in forwards like Nick Woltemade, who has recently been repurposed into a deeper midfield role amid a difficult domestic run, and Yoane Wissa, the team’s offensive spark has significantly dimmed.

It is hardly a surprise to see why Howe and his management team are targeting a move for a new striker.

UEFA Champions League 5 0 0 175′

Garcia’s stats this season

Can Gonzalo Garcia solve the attacking woes at St. James’ Park?

A prolific scorer during his time with Real Madrid Castilla, the Spanish under-21 international has officially broken into the senior squad this season, registering over 30 appearances and contributing crucial goals across all competitions.

However, despite his undeniable quality, finding regular starts remains incredibly difficult within the star-studded rotation at the Santiago Bernabeu.

He is physically robust, technically gifted, and capable of operating anywhere across the front line or as a second striker.

His potential is so highly regarded that prominent footballing figures like Xabi Alonso have even drawn stylistic comparisons between the youngster and Real Madrid legend Raul.

Moving to St James’ Park would offer the 22-year-old the consistent Premier League minutes necessary to accelerate his development and fulfill his immense potential.

Despite interest from Newcastle United, Real Madrid have no intention of letting the attacker leave and they believe he can turn into a world class player in the future.

Talks held: Chelsea set sights on Premier League trio as transfer plans explained

Chelsea are reportedly holding internal discussions over centre-back targets, with Murillo a top target alongside Jarrad Branthwaite and Jan Paul van Hecke.

According to Simon Phillips, the Blues are getting to work on defensive signings for this summer, with that area being identified as a key priority.

DOWNLOAD THE OFFICIAL CAUGHTOFFSIDE APP FOR ALL THE LATEST & BREAKING UPDATES – STRAIGHT TO YOUR PHONE! ON APPLE & GOOGLE PLAY

Murillo has long been linked with Chelsea and his name is said to have come up again, while another raid on Brighton could be on the cards as there’s interest in Van Hecke.

However, one issue might be that Van Hecke and Joao Pedro had something of a training ground bust-up when they were teammates at Brighton, so that could be an interesting detail to keep in mind.

Phillips adds that Everton’s Branthwaite is also an option being considered by Chelsea, while others could also come into the equation as no final decision has been made yet.

Chelsea eye three Premier League centre-backs

“Chelsea are weighing up their options for new centre backs this summer, with this area on the pitch going to be the priority,” Phillips said.

“Something is certainly happening with Murillo of Nottingham Forest right now. Having been told about our interest in him MANY times over the last couple of seasons, SPTC Sources have heard his name come up in internal conversations about recruitment once again just this week!”

Want more CaughtOffside coverage? Add us as a preferred source on Google to your favourites list for news you can trust

He added: “Forest could still get relegated this season, and that would make this one much easier to do. But even if they don’t, Chelsea are looking at Murillo as a serious target for this summer.

“And further to that, our top source has confirmed they are hearing that Chelsea are looking to sign two new centre backs this summer.

“Nothing is done or close for Murillo yet of course, but it could advance. As well as him, we’ve had confirmation that Brighton’s Jan Paul van Hecke IS a player that Chelsea like and are looking into for this summer. I believe it’s been reported elsewhere, but our sources have also now confirmed the interest.

“One sticking point could be that we’ve also heard that Van Hecke had a number of training ground bust ups with Joao Pedro when they were both at Brighton, so we are unsure whether those two have squashed that beef or not, or whether it would stop a Chelsea move for Van Hecke. These things happen all the time, and hopefully they would be adult enough to put it behind them, IF a move should progress.

“Again, I’m not saying these two will definitely be the two centre backs we sign, but there is a lot of noise on them both this week. Remember, Chelsea also looking at other centre backs such as Jarrad Branthwaite, and many more.”

More Chelsea defence updates

Another story to watch this summer is that Chelsea are one of the clubs eyeing Como centre-back Jacobo Ramon, though it’s a complicated saga.

Our understanding is that Chelsea and Arsenal want Ramon, but Real Madrid are in control over his future as they have a buy-back clause.

Chelsea are also exploring Marcos Senesi as a potential free transfer, though he has plenty of interest from Liverpool and clubs in La Liga.

Meanwhile, the Daily Express report that CFC want to keep Josh Acheampong despite also looking for new signings in central defence.

‘He could be the key’ – Rio Ferdinand names surprise Arsenal player crucial to their title chances

The Premier League title race has reached its boiling point, and the margins for error have effectively vanished.

Amid this late-season tension, Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has delivered a fascinating verdict on exactly who holds the key to Arsenal ending their 22-year league drought.

Rather than pointing to the established brilliance of Bukayo Saka or the relentless engine of Declan Rice, Ferdinand has championed an unexpected catalyst to help get Mikel Arteta’s men over the line.

Following Arsenal’s unexpected FA Cup exit at the hands of Championship side Southampton, Ferdinand used his platform to highlight the sensational emergence of 16-year-old Max Dowman.

Max Dowman has been a bright spark for Arsenal

The teenager was the undeniable bright spark in an otherwise gloomy cup tie for the Gunners, backing up a phenomenal breakthrough display against Everton where his dribbling and vision directly influenced two crucial goals.

For Ferdinand, integrating this fearless prodigy could provide the unpredictable, dynamic edge Arteta’s side desperately needs to stave off a fast-approaching Manchester City.

The Premier League legend said on his Youtube channel, as reported by Metro:

‘He could be the key to Mikel Arteta getting Arsenal over the line, I think he’s that good.

‘He’s not got the mental scars that the other players have because of what they’ve gone through in previous seasons.

‘You might need someone like him to lean on and tell him to be fearless and help us through it without giving him too much responsibility.

‘He could be a massive key for Arsenal in that sense.’

Mikel Arteta has some tough decisions to make

Arteta now faces the ultimate managerial balancing act: protecting a young phenomenon from suffocating media hype while simultaneously exploiting his undeniable momentum on the pitch.

As the marathon season goes down to the wire, Arsenal’s ultimate weapon against the relentless Man City machine might just be the fearless exuberance of youth.

It remains to be seen how Arteta will use him in the coming weeks. What is certain is that Dowman has the talent and potential to become a world class player, the question remains over his mentality to reach the level the likes of players like Lamine Yamal and Michael Olise have reached in recent seasons.

Sources: Arsenal face paying at least €180m after exploring forward transfer

Unfortunately, although I can confirm the reported interest from the Gunners is genuine, there’s currently nothing to indicate that PSG will even consider letting him go, while the player himself is also happy in the French capital.

This story was first published on the Daily Briefing – click here to subscribe to make sure you get these exclusive updates first!

Multiple sources with ties to the agents industry have been approached for this piece, all of whom were keen to remain anonymous to protect relationships, and all those asked about the Kvaratskhelia gave more or less the same answer.

Arsenal have indeed made some enquiries, as have at least two other unnamed Premier League clubs, but PSG’s stance is clear: Kvaratskhelia is not for sale.

Arsenal recruitment team keen on Khvicha Kvaratskhelia

Ultimately, this already looks like a lost cause for Arsenal, who are set to look into other potential attacking options as they prioritise a new left-sided forward for this summer.

“Arsenal’s recruitment team would have really liked to sign Kvaratskhelia, but PSG have bolted the door,” one source explained.

Most of the people I spoke to wouldn’t even name an asking price, but there was one exception.

“PSG aren’t going to sell…well, maybe if Arsenal offered €180m, but that’s not going to happen,” one source said.

Other Arsenal transfer targets

Arsenal are also understood to be interested in Inter Milan forward Pio Esposito, though they could face competition from Manchester United.

There’s also been talk of Rafael Leao being an Arsenal target, but AC Milan have recently spoken out to insist they want to keep him. The Portugal international has two years left on his contract.

Elsewhere, Arsenal are also looking into Jacobo Ramon as a target in defence as they eye an elite young player for that position, and they’ve also been offered Eduardo Camavinga in midfield.

It remains to be seen what Arsenal will be able to afford this summer, but it’s understood that they could raise significant funds through the sales of some big-name first-team players.

Man United ready to offload 30-year-old despite his determination to revive Old Trafford career

Manchester United are reportedly preparing to part ways with Andre Onana this summer, even though the Cameroon international remains eager to prove himself at Old Trafford.

According to reports from the Daily Mail, the club are willing to listen to offers for the goalkeeper as they continue planning squad reshaping ahead of the next season.

Onana has spent the current campaign away from Manchester United, enjoying a productive loan spell with Trabzonspor in Turkey.

His performances in the Turkish Super Lig have helped the club mount a strong title challenge, with Trabzonspor currently positioned near the top of the table.

While his resurgence abroad has boosted his confidence and reputation, it may not be enough to secure a long-term future in Manchester.

Loan success in Turkey highlights Onana’s resilience

Onana’s time at Trabzonspor has been widely regarded as a positive chapter in what has otherwise been a turbulent period in his career.

Want more CaughtOffside coverage? Add us as a preferred source on Google to your favourites list for news you can trust

After facing criticism and uncertainty during his time at Man United, the move to Turkey offered him the opportunity to rebuild both form and confidence.

His shot-stopping ability, distribution, and commanding presence in the penalty area have been key factors behind the team’s strong defensive record.

With the club sitting just a point off the top of the Super Lig standings, his performances have contributed to a title race that remains tightly contested.

Before his move to England, he had established a reputation for composure on the ball and tactical intelligence during spells with Ajax and Inter Milan, where he played in high-pressure domestic and European competitions.

Man United make decision over the future of Onana

Despite Onana’s positive loan spell, Man United appear to be focused on restructuring their squad in line with evolving tactical demands.

The performances of Senne Lammens have been impressive this season and he is expected to remain the number one goalkeeping choice of the club moving forward.

If anything, United will sign new back up options in the position to strengthen their squad.

Onana does not have the confidence of the management or the hierarchy at Old Trafford anymore.

He had his chances in the past and he failed to grab them and now there is no chance of him reviving his Old Trafford career.

The France international’s future at the Bernabeu is in some doubt this summer, and we’ve recently been informed about him being offered to Arsenal, while Liverpool also hold an interest.

Now there’s been another update, with sources telling TEAMtalk that Liverpool “love” Camavinga and have already done a lot of work on potentially bringing him to Anfield.

Their source is quoted as saying: “Listen, keep an eye on Camavinga and Liverpool, they love him. As a player, but also his character – they have already done a lot of background work on him.”

Eduardo Camavinga to Liverpool in swap deal?

The report from TEAMtalk also suggests there could be a pathway towards a swap deal involving Camavinga and Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister.

The Spanish giants are said to be fans of the Reds ace, and it could suit both clubs to exchange these players this summer.

LFC have had defensive problems all season, so might benefit from a stronger and more hard-working player like Camavinga to protect their back four.

Madrid, meanwhile, are perhaps still lacking a creative passer to replace legendary duo Toni Kroos and Luka Modric, with Mac Allister fitting that profile a bit more.

More on Liverpool’s midfield

As well as the potential signing of Camavinga and the possible sale of Mac Allister, TEAMtalk report that Liverpool are making it a priority to give Dominik Szoboszlai a new contract.

The Hungary international has arguably been Liverpool’s best player this season, so keeping him is surely crucial for the club’s future.

If Liverpool can tie down Szoboszlai and strengthen the midfield players supporting him, then they could be in much better shape next season.

Man United exit is inevitable for winger as European giants enter race for his signature

Borussia Dortmund are reportedly evaluating the possibility of bringing Jadon Sancho back to the club for a third time, as uncertainty continues to surround the winger’s long-term future at Manchester United.

According to reports from The Telegraph, the Bundesliga side are monitoring the situation closely, with Sancho currently on loan at Aston Villa and widely expected to depart Old Trafford once his contract situation reaches its conclusion this summer.

DOWNLOAD THE OFFICIAL CAUGHTOFFSIDE APP FOR ALL THE LATEST & BREAKING UPDATES – STRAIGHT TO YOUR PHONE! ON APPLE & GOOGLE PLAY

Sancho’s connection with Dortmund remains strong due to his earlier success at the German club, where he developed into one of Europe’s most exciting attacking talents.

With his future at Man United appearing increasingly uncertain, a return to familiar surroundings could present an appealing option for both player and club.

Sancho faces uncertain future at Man United

Sancho’s time at Man United has been marked by inconsistency and periods of uncertainty.

After joining from Borussia Dortmund in 2021 for a significant transfer fee, expectations were high that he would become a cornerstone of United’s attacking line.

Want more CaughtOffside coverage? Add us as a preferred source on Google to your favourites list for news you can trust

However, his tenure has been disrupted by fluctuating form, injuries, and managerial changes, all of which have limited his ability to consistently reproduce the performances that made him one of the Bundesliga’s standout players.

His recent loan spell at Aston Villa has provided an opportunity to rebuild confidence and regain rhythm in a competitive Premier League environment.

United are preparing for a summer of restructuring, with a number of players potentially moving on as part of their squad adjustments.

If Sancho becomes available as a free agent, he would instantly become an attractive option for clubs seeking experienced attacking depth without the burden of a major transfer fee.

Why Borussia Dortmund remain interested in Sancho

Dortmund’s interest in Sancho is rooted in both history and practicality. During his earlier spells with the club, he flourished in a system that emphasised attacking freedom, creativity, and quick transitions.

His partnership with Dortmund’s forwards during that period produced impressive numbers in both goals and assists, establishing him as one of the most productive young attackers in Europe at the time.

A potential third stint would not be unprecedented, as the club has previously re-signed players who performed well during earlier spells.

From a tactical perspective, Sancho’s versatility across the attacking line makes him an appealing option.

Dortmund have traditionally relied on wide attackers capable of stretching defenses and creating scoring opportunities, and Sancho’s dribbling ability and creativity matches well with that philosophy.

“Awful all season” – Jamie Carragher slams error-ridden Liverpool star

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has hit out at Ibrahima Konate’s poor form this season after last night’s defeat away to Paris Saint-Germain.

Goals from Desire Doue and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia gave PSG a 2-0 win at the Parc des Princes, leaving Liverpool with a very difficult challenge to turn it around in the second leg of this Champions League quarter-final tie.

Although there has been a lot of focus on the dip in form of ageing centre-back Virgil van Dijk, Carragher actually defended the Dutchman and insisted life has been made harder for him by having such an out-of-form defensive partner this season.

Jamie Carragher slams Ibrahima Konate’s “awful” season

Konate has mostly been a solid performer for Liverpool, but Carragher feels the France international has been awful and full of mistakes all season this term.

“People have criticised Van Dijk for his performances this season but I think it’s been harsh. I think he plays every game, the fella next to him has been awful all season and poor again tonight, Konate, makes a mistake every game, so that’s not easy to play alongside, so I still think he’s been one of Liverpool’s better players, Virgil van Dijk,” Carragher said on CBS Sports, as quoted by the Metro.

LFC have certainly been leaking goals in a way that they weren’t last season, but it’s not that obvious if it’s all down to Konate, with the whole team just looking at a far lower level.

Should Liverpool let Ibrahima Konate leave?

Konate’s future has been the subject of some speculation for months now, with the 26-year-old close to becoming a free agent.

Fabrizio Romano has reported on Liverpool’s Konate contract talks here, but perhaps there’s a case for the club simply allowing him to come to the end of his deal and leave.

Konate has shown he’s capable of playing much better than this, but perhaps he’s now entering into a serious decline, and this summer could be an ideal chance to completely revamp Arne Slot’s defence.

Romano confirms Man City enter race for German star as Europe’s elite circle emerging talent

Manchester City have reportedly joined a growing list of top European clubs monitoring highly rated German teenager Kennet Eichhorn, as the race intensifies to secure one of the country’s most promising young prospects.

According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, the 16-year-old midfielder has attracted attention from several Bundesliga heavyweights as well as multiple Premier League clubs, showing his rising reputation across Europe.

Although still in the early stages of his development, Eichhorn is already being viewed as a player with significant long-term potential.

Clubs are increasingly investing in young talents at an earlier age, and the level of interest surrounding Eichhorn suggests that scouts believe he could develop into a high-level performer in the years ahead.

In recent years, the club has invested heavily in youth development, building a network designed to scout and nurture some of the most promising young players across Europe.

City’s academy system has produced several notable prospects, while the club’s strategy often involves signing teenage talents and integrating them into a structured development pathway.

This approach allows players to gain valuable experience through academy competitions, youth leagues, and strategic loan spells before stepping into senior football.

In addition to Man City, at least one other Premier League club is believed to be tracking the German youngster closely.

The competition from English sides suggests that interest is not merely speculative but part of a wider evaluation process among elite clubs.

Interest in Eichhorn is not limited to England. Several top Bundesliga clubs are also reported to be following his progress, which could present a compelling option for the young player’s development.

For a 16-year-old prospect like Eichhorn, remaining in Germany could provide familiarity and structured development while allowing him to compete against high-level youth systems.

Known for being a defensive midfield player and an impressive passer of the ball, the young German is destined for a bright future at a top club.

He is capable of controlling tempo and making intelligent decisions in midfield at a young age.
The race to sign him will be intense and top clubs from England and Germany will be a part of it.

Kvaratskhelia eventually scored the second goal with a delightful mazy run into the box and a cool finish, and it was no less than the Georgia international deserved.

The Independent recently reported that Arsenal are looking into signing Kvaratskhelia this summer, and it’s performances like this that will have Gooners drooling.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia was a nightmare for Liverpool’s defence

Kvaratskhelia proved almost impossible for Liverpool to handle, with the 25-year-old looking precisely like the kind of profile that’s missing from Arsenal’s attack.

Mikel Arteta’s side have become a little slow and predictable in their build-up this season, even if their strong defence has put them in serious contention to win both the Premier League and the Champions League.

Someone like Kvaratskhelia, however, could surely take Arsenal to the next level, with the classy forward taking seven shots and notching up a pass accuracy rate of 93%.

Want more CaughtOffside coverage? Add us as a preferred source on Google to your favourites list for news you can trust

In total, he’s now on 12 goals and 8 assists for the season, and it’s easy to imagine him being a major upgrade on inconsistent duo Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard on AFC’s left-hand side.

Is Kvaratskhelia transfer realistic for Arsenal?

Still, PSG will surely do all they can to keep Kvaratskhelia at the club this summer, which could make things difficult for Arsenal.

Luis Enrique’s side continue to look like one of the best teams in Europe, with Kvaratskhelia playing a major role in their Champions League win last season, and looking like doing so again this term.

Overall, this surely means Arsenal are going to struggle to afford the player, while there’s also little reason for him to seek to swap the Parc des Princes for the Emirates Stadium.

It will be interesting to see if the recent transfer rumours amount to anything more concrete in the weeks and months ahead.

Amidst the immediate post-match analysis of tactical dominance and Liverpool’s historic failure to register a single shot on target, a much quieter, profoundly classy moment unfolded on the sidelines.

According to prominent football journalist Julien Laurens, PSG midfielder Vitinha delivered an incredible show of sportsmanship.

PSG star Vitinha waited 20 minutes for shirt exchange

Taking to X to share a brilliant behind-the-scenes anecdote, Laurens revealed that Vitinha patiently waited by the side of the pitch for a full 20 minutes after the stadium had largely emptied.

His reason? He was waiting for Liverpool’s players to complete their grueling, mandatory post-match fitness drills.

The Portuguese international had made an in-game promise to swap shirts with Liverpool’s highly-rated teenage prospect, Trey Nyoni, and he was determined to see it through.

“Vitinha had been waiting 20 minutes by the side of the pitch that the Liverpool subs finished their fitness session on the pitch to swap his shirt with Trey Nyoni, who he promised to give his shirt to during the game! What a guy!” Laurens wrote, perfectly capturing the sentiment of fans who were quick to praise the Parisian star’s dedication and humility.

For a player of Vitinha’s caliber, who had just spent the evening orchestrating a midfield masterclass against one of Europe’s biggest clubs, choosing to stand in the brisk Parisian night air simply to fulfill a promise to a teenage opponent speaks volumes about his character.

For Nyoni, the gesture surely served as a massive silver lining on an otherwise bleak night for the Merseyside club.

The young midfielder is widely regarded as one of the most exciting talents emerging from Liverpool’s academy setup.

Earning the respect and the jersey of an established European star like Vitinha on the grandest stage is a significant nod of validation.

As both squads turn their attention toward the decisive second leg at Anfield next week, the narrative will undoubtedly shift back to tactics, pressure, and the monumental task facing Arne Slot’s beleaguered side.

Decision made: Chelsea to block star’s potential transfer away this summer

Chelsea are reportedly not prepared to sell Josh Acheampong this summer despite having plans to sign a new defender.

The Blues have faced interest from the likes of Bayern Munich and Crystal Palace in Acheampong in recent times, and that’s expected to continue.

However, it seems Chelsea have made the decision that they want to keep the 19-year-old at Stamford Bridge, according to the Daily Express.

Acheampong has shown himself to be a hugely promising young player, but it would also be fair to say he hasn’t been given a lot of playing time.

One imagines the England Under-21 international might at some point be tempted to consider moving on, but for now it looks like that’s off the table.

Can Josh Acheampong make the breakthrough at Chelsea?

Acheampong is still young and learning the game, but he’s perhaps already shown he’s good enough to be playing more often.

The teenager has just 39 first-team appearances for Chelsea in total, playing only 12 times in the Premier League so far this term.

This feels a bit harsh given he’s not exactly been up against particularly top players, with the likes of Trevoh Chalobah, Tosin Adarabioyo, and Wesley Fofana not being that convincing with their performances.

Chelsea are also eyeing up Jacobo Ramon as a target in defence this summer, so it could continue to be tricky for Acheampong to get opportunities at Stamford Bridge.

It will be interesting to see if CFC continue to insist on keeping him, and if so, if it leads to Liam Rosenior giving him more minutes, or else he’ll surely push for a move sooner rather than later.

‘What does he do?’ – Journalist severely critical of Liverpool star following PSG horror show

Following Liverpool’s dismal 2-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League quarter-final first leg, the spotlight is glaring harshly on Arne Slot’s team.

While manager Arne Slot continues to absorb the brunt of the tactical criticism, individual players are increasingly facing the wrath of the media.

Foremost among them is marquee summer signing Florian Wirtz. Signed for a staggering £100 million plus, the German international was brought in to be the creative fulcrum of Liverpool’s attack.

Yet, after another distinctly anonymous display in the French capital, prominent voices are beginning to openly question his value to the squad.

Liverpool star Wirtz criticised for anonymous performance

Taking to X in the immediate aftermath of the Parisian collapse, football journalist Lewis Steele perfectly encapsulated the mounting frustration surrounding the young playmaker.

He wrote:

“I’ve been quite lenient on Florian Wirtz this season as I am certain he will live up to his price tag in the near future. But so many of these games I am left thinking: what does he do? So ineffective and when you cost £100m, you want way, way more.”

It is a brutally honest, yet entirely valid assessment of a player who has consistently struggled to impose his will on English and European football since his blockbuster arrival from the Bundesliga.

Reds deserve criticism for disastrous performance vs PSG

Steele’s critique feels particularly poignant when analysing the 2-0 loss at the Parc des Princes.

In a match where Liverpool historically failed to register a single shot on target, Wirtz was supposed to be the man unlocking the PSG defense.

Instead, he was completely suffocated, unable to navigate the tight spaces or deliver the killer passes that defined his stellar tenure at Bayer Leverkusen.

Sadly for Slot and his team, this performance was not an isolated incident. Wirtz’s recent form has been a major cause for concern.

When Liverpool’s possession-heavy system bogs down against resilient defensive blocks, Wirtz has too often become a passenger rather than the driving force that breaks the deadlock.

The raw talent is undeniable, his close control and vision remain elite, but the tangible output simply hasn’t matched the massive financial investment.

Liverpool did something for the first time since 2020 in embarassing defeat vs PSG

On Wednesday night at the Parc des Princes, the Champions League quarter-final first leg between Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool was billed as a blockbuster clash of European titans.

Instead, it dissolved into a stark display of Parisian dominance and Merseyside impotence.
Arne Slot’s side suffered a comprehensive 2-0 defeat in the French capital, but the scoreline alone only tells half the story.

The truly damning headline emerging from the fixture is an offensive statistic that shows just how thoroughly outclassed the Reds were: Liverpool failed to register a single shot on target for the entire ninety minutes.

Liverpool were outplayed against PSG in all departments

To truly understand the magnitude of this offensive collapse, one has to look deep into the European archives.

The last time Liverpool endured a Champions League match without testing the opposition goalkeeper was nearly six years ago, during a dismal group-stage encounter against Atalanta in November 2020, as reported by journalist James Pearce.

For a club globally revered for its heavy-metal football, high-octane pressing, and relentless attacking transitions, firing a complete blank on Europe’s biggest stage is shocking.

Against Luis Enrique’s meticulously organized PSG side, the Reds looked entirely bereft of ideas.

They lacked the crucial final pass, the necessary urgency, and the positional discipline required to trouble the Parisian penalty area.

Can the Reds make a comeback in the 2nd leg?

The famous Anfield atmosphere will play it’s part, for sure. But the bigger question is are the players capable of turning it around?

Considering their recent performances and form, they simply cannot score three goals against PSG without conceding.

Slot must find a way to drastically restructure his midfield progression, reignite his misfiring forward line, and restore the attacking menace that was so glaringly absent in Paris.

If they fail to locate their shooting boots and test the goalkeeper by next week, Liverpool’s Champions League aspirations will be swiftly extinguished and with that, perhaps the tenure of Slot at Anfield.

“Final” offer made as journalist delivers major Liverpool update

Liverpool have reportedly made their “final” offer to Ibrahima Konate as they look to tie him down to a new contract at Anfield.

There has been plenty of speculation about Konate’s future over the last few months, with the France international’s current deal due to expire at the end of this season.

Fabrizio Romano has reported for CaughtOffside about talks continuing between Liverpool and Konate’s camp, and now there’s been another update on the saga.

According to a team of five elite journalists on X, the Reds have now made their final contract offer to Konate, so we could be nearing a crucial stage in this story.

Will Ibrahima Konate accept Liverpool’s offer?

Konate has certainly left it late, but it perhaps seems that LFC have a bit more hope of keeping the 26-year-old than they did a few months ago.

Romano told us that Konate is open to staying with Liverpool, while it’s also a boost for the Merseyside giants that Real Madrid seem to have cooled their interest.

Still, agreeing terms with Konate has clearly been challenging, with the former RB Leipzig man perhaps keen to be on a much higher salary than he’s currently earning.

At times, Konate has been a hugely important player for Liverpool, so perhaps that’s fair enough, but he’s also suffered a dip in form for a lot of this campaign.

Liverpool need to make changes in defence

Keeping Konate is undoubtedly important for Liverpool, but they also surely need a signing or two at the back this summer anyway.

Virgil van Dijk is clearly no longer the same player, and he’ll be 35 by the time next season starts.

Konate will have a role to play in replacing the Dutchman, but Arne Slot also surely needs someone else to come in as soon as possible to ensure he can rotate his backline a bit more next term.

Arne Slot gives confusing reason behind benching Liverpool star Mo Salah vs PSG

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has defended his decision not to introduce Mohamed Salah during the closing stages of Liverpool’s 2–0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarterfinal.

The result left the Reds facing a challenging task ahead of the return leg, but Slot insisted that protecting his star forward’s fitness was a calculated move rather than a tactical oversight.

Salah’s absence from the pitch during crucial moments raised eyebrows among supporters and pundits, particularly given Liverpool’s need to find a breakthrough goal.

However, Slot explained that the nature of the match, especially the final period, forced his side into survival mode, making it impractical to risk introducing one of his most important attacking players into a situation dominated by defensive pressure.

Arne Slot wanted to save Mo Salah for upcoming games

Following the match, Slot described the final phase of the game as a period where Liverpool were largely focused on damage limitation.

PSG’s attacking intensity had pinned Liverpool deep into their own half, forcing the visitors to defend in numbers rather than build meaningful attacking moves.

According to Slot, the final 20 to 25 minutes became a defensive battle rather than an attacking opportunity.

In such circumstances, bringing on a forward like Salah would have offered limited tactical benefit, in his opinion.

Following the defeat, he said on Salah, as reported by Fabrizio Romano:

“The last part of the game was about surviving for us, this was a 20-25 mins where we were only defending…and it’s better to save his energy for the upcoming games”.

Liverpool boss may have a point about his tactics

With PSG dominating possession and pinning Liverpool deep into their own defensive third, throwing on an out-and-out attacker like Salah would have been strategically redundant.

If the midfield cannot transition the ball out of their own half, an elite forward becomes entirely isolated.

Furthermore, introducing Salah into a chaotic, low-block defensive scenario could have compromised the team’s defensive shape, risking a third or fourth goal that would have effectively ended the tie right then and there.

From the outside it looks like Slot had already thrown the towel but in reality, he was just giving his team a better chance to go through over the two legs.

‘The only positive thing is’ – Van Dijk finds positive in Liverpool defeat against PSG

Following a catastrophic Champions League quarter-final first-leg defeat at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk delivered a brutally honest assessment of his side’s complete collapse.

The Reds were thoroughly dismantled at the Parc des Princes, leaving their European aspirations hanging by the thinnest of threads.

Addressing the media in the immediate aftermath of the thrashing, the veteran Dutch defender struggled to find any silver linings, pointing only to the looming second leg at Anfield as a source of desperate, fading hope for Arne Slot’s beleaguered squad.

A night to forget for Liverpool in Paris

The gulf in class between the two sides was glaringly evident from the very first whistle.

PSG’s dynamic attacking contingent, spearheaded by the relentless pace and trickery of Ousmane Dembélé, Desire Doue, and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, tore through Liverpool’s defensive structure with alarming ease

Reflecting on the harrowing 90 minutes, Van Dijk did not attempt to sugarcoat the bleak reality of the situation.

He said, as reported by Fabrizio Romano:

“The only positive thing is we play them again next week”.

“We had a few small moments on the break, we could have done better. I’m not happy obviously”.

Reds have a mountain to climb in the 2nd leg at Anfield

Liverpool face one of their most difficult tests next week against PSG in the Champions League.

The French club knocked out the Merseyside club from the Champions League last season and history could repeat itself.

Reds need the full support of their fans and want their manager Arne Slot to have a tactical masterclass against Luis Enrique’s side.

The French team will have an advantage due to their Ligue 1 match getting postponed which would give them a rest before the second leg, unlike Liverpool who play Fulham in the Premier League.

Anfield is globally renowned for producing miraculous European comebacks on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, but overturning this massive deficit against a rampant, confident PSG side feels like a virtually impossible task.

West Ham ace may have already played his last game for the club as summer exit now possible

The future of Mexican international Edson Alvarez has become a focal point of intense speculation, with the West Ham midfielder reportedly determined to continue his career in Europe despite a turbulent loan spell and uncertainty surrounding his parent club.

Currently on a season-long loan at Turkish giants Fenerbahçe, Álvarez has endured a difficult period in Istanbul.

While he joined with high expectations, a series of ankle injuries and subsequent surgery have significantly limited his impact.

Furthermore, the high-profile January arrival of World Cup winner N’Golo Kanté has added stiff competition in the midfield, leading to concerns about Álvarez’s long-term prominence in Turkey.

Edson Alvarez’s West Ham future uncertain

The situation is further complicated due to the current state of West Ham . The Hammers currently find themselves embroiled in a fierce Premier League relegation battle, sitting in 18th place with just seven games remaining.

A potential relegation to the Championship would almost certainly necessitate a squad overhaul, leaving Álvarez’s future at the London Stadium in doubt.

While he is contracted to West Ham until 2028, a relegation scenario would likely force the club to listen to offers for their high-earning assets.

Despite these challenges and rumours of a romantic return to his boyhood club, Club América, reports from América Monumental confirm that Alvarez has a “firm desire” to remain in Europe.

He is reportedly keen to test himself at the highest level,a stay in one of Europe’s top leagues as vital for his role as captain of the Mexican national team.

Significant interest from across Europe

Despite his injury woes, Alvarez remains a highly regarded defensive midfielder on the continent.

Having proven his quality during a successful four-year stint at Ajax before his £35 million move to London, the 28-year-old is not short of suitors.

Dutch giants Ajax have reportedly explored the possibility of a reunion, while several clubs in Italy’s Serie A including Inter Milan and Germany’s Bundesliga including Borussia Dortmund have previously been interested in signing him.

“Wrong signals” – Paul Robinson tears into Arne Slot after PSG defeat

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has been heavily criticized for his tactical approach during Wednesday night’s 2-0 Champions League defeat to PSG, with former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson claiming the Dutchman “defended his weaknesses” rather than playing to his team’s strengths.

The Reds, reeling from a 15th defeat of the season, arrived at the Parc des Princes looking to bounce back from the humiliating 4-0 defeat against Man City, but instead produced yet another uninspiring performance.

Arne Slot slammed for setting up Liverpool to defend

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, Robinson expressed his dismay at Slot’s decision to abandon Liverpool’s traditional attacking identity in favor of a conservative back five.

He said:

“That was our champions against their champions. Our champions were nowhere near.

“Obviously, Liverpool are not in a good run of form and the confidence is very low. They are a team which is creaking, hence why they played a back five. Soon as they played a back five, it sends out the wrong signals for me.”

Robinson argued that the tactical shift played directly into PSG’s hands.

“It is not playing to Liverpool’s strengths and it is defending their weaknesses. In Hakimi, Mendes, Kvaratskhelia, Doué – Arne Slot knew the problems his team would have in the wide areas. By packing the defense, he invited pressure instead of forcing PSG’s wingers to track back.”

The irony of the setup was not lost on observers. Slot has previously been vocal about his preference for “nicest football to watch,” even subtly criticising the defensive “low-block” philosophies often associated with managers like Jose Mourinho.

However, at the Parc des Princes, Liverpool failed to register a single shot on target and looked every bit the “parked bus” Slot once claimed to avoid.

Is it time over for Arne Slot?

With the deficit standing at 2-0 and the second leg at Anfield looming, the mood on Merseyside is increasingly grim.

The disconnect between the manager and the fans is at its peak and his desperate tactical experiments suggests a coach who has lost his way.

Following the humiliating 4-0 FA Cup exit to Manchester City, Slot’s final chance to redeem the season has suffered a major blow.

Whether Liverpool will sack Slot now and bring in someone like Steven Gerrard as interim manager or let the Dutchman see out the season remains to be seen.
