Samsung and AMD are assembling the backbone of next-gen AI with HBM4

Samsung and AMD are tightening the loop around AI infrastructure. The new MOU signals something more integrated: memory, logic, packaging, and system architecture being tuned as a single stack.

The signing ceremony was attended by Dr. Lisa Su, Chair and CEO of AMD, and Young Hyun Jun, Vice Chairman & CEO of Samsung Electronics.

At the center sits HBM4. Samsung is pushing its 1c DRAM node paired with a 4nm logic base die, targeting up to 13 Gbps per pin and roughly 3.3 TB/s of bandwidth.

AMD’s next Instinct part, the MI455X, is being positioned as the primary consumer of that bandwidth. If Samsung can hold yield rates on that 4nm base die while stacking aggressively, AMD gets a cleaner path to scale without the usual power penalties.

Then there is β€œVenice,” AMD’s 6th Gen EPYC platform. DDR5 is still in play here, but the tuning matters. High-capacity, high-efficiency DIMMs become critical when CPUs are orchestrating GPU-heavy nodes.

β€œSamsung and AMD share a commitment to advancing AI computing, and this agreement reflects the growing scope of our collaboration,” said Young Hyun Jun, Vice Chairman & CEO of Samsung Electronics. β€œFrom industry-leading HBM4 and next-generation memory architectures to cutting-edge foundry and advanced packaging, Samsung is uniquely positioned to deliver unrivaled turnkey capabilities that support AMD’s evolving AI roadmap.”

Samsung AMD AI Chip Collaboration

Memory latency and consistency start to show up in scheduling efficiency, especially in mixed workloads where inference and training coexist. Meanwhile, AMD is clearly thinking beyond individual accelerators.

Helios is a rack-scale design philosophy; GPUs, CPUs, and memory are being co-optimized as a single unit. That changes how vendors plug in. Instead of shipping components, they are effectively shaping system behavior at the silicon level.

You can see it in how the stack lines up:

  • HBM4 feeding MI455X with sustained bandwidth
  • EPYC β€œVenice” handling orchestration with DDR5 tuned for consistency
  • Helios is tying it together into a predictable, scalable rack unit

β€œPowering the next generation of AI infrastructure requires deep collaboration across the industry,” said Dr. Lisa Su, Chair and CEO of AMD. β€œWe are thrilled to expand our work with Samsung, bringing together their leadership in advanced memory with our Instinct GPUs, EPYC CPUs and rack-scale platforms. Integration across the full computing stack, from silicon to system to rack, is essential to accelerating AI innovation that translates into real-world impact at scale.”

Intel Publishes XeSS 3 SDK On GitHub, But It Remains Closed-Source

9 March 2026 at 22:22

Intel XeSS 3 MFG "Multi-Frame Gen" With Up To 4x Mode Unveiled, Coming To All Arc GPUs With XMX Cores, XeSS 2 Games Supported & Further Perf/Efficiency Optimizations For Arc

The promised "open-source" upscaling technology remains closed-source, as we see Intel rolling out the XeSS 3 SDK. Intel Rolls Out XeSS 3 SDK on GitHub for Game Developers, Still Distributed as Windows Binaries Intel has released the XeSS 3 SDK (software development kit) on GitHub recently, giving developers broader access to its latest AI upscaling and frame-generation technology. While this improves accessibility to the latest upscaling technology, it remains closed-source since the SDK is currently distributed as proprietary Windows binaries. XeSS 3 and Multi-Frame Generation, which debuted alongside Intel Panther Lake series, have already expanded to more hardware recently, including […]

I Tested AMD’s Ray Regeneration in Cyberpunk Thanks To Optiscaler, And It’s Surprisingly Good

6 March 2026 at 01:10

A digital illustration shows a prism refracting light with the text 'FSR 'Redstone' Ray Regeneration powered by Optiscaler'

Gentlemen, we meet yet again. It's only been a week since the last time I wrote an article about Optiscaler, but development on the mod is happening at such a rapid pace that I once again have some updates to share with you. This time, it's AMD's Ray Regeneration that's getting the Optiscaler treatment. Thanks to the work done by DarkHelmet, you can now swap Nvidia's Ray Reconstruction for AMD's legally distinct Ray Regeneration denoiser. This is huge news, since currently there's a grand total of two titles with support for Ray Regen, and one of them isn't out till […]

AMD Witnesses β€œUnexpected” CPU Demand From Customers as Agentic AI Accelerates Adoption; CEO Lisa Su Warns Supply Is Tightening

3 March 2026 at 22:24

AMD's CEO has discussed the company's situation with enterprise demand for its server CPUs, and according to Lisa Su, Team Red faces 'unexpected' customer volume. AMD's Lisa Su Says that the CPU Supply Is Tightening, as Customer Commitments Increase Rapidly The ratio of CPU: GPU in modern-day AI compute workloads has evolved dramatically over the past few months, mainly since with agentic applications coming in, the role of CPUs has increased signifcantly. We have seen hyperscalers like Meta enter into standalone CPU agreements with infrastructure providers like AMD and NVIDIA, indicating that compute is diversifying away from GPUs. While talking […]
