MSC Cruises Unveils MSC World Atlantic as a Game-Changing Addition to Its Expanding World Class Fleet

MSC Cruises Unveils MSC World Atlantic as a Game-Changing Addition to Its Expanding World Class Fleet

MSC Cruises has unveiled another major addition to its future fleet by opening bookings for a new World Class ship that is set to redefine its Caribbean operations. Scheduled to enter service on November 13, 2027, MSC World Atlantic will be based year-round at Port Canaveral, Florida, reinforcing the cruise line’s expanding footprint in one of the world’s most competitive cruise markets.

From its Florida homeport, MSC World Atlantic will operate alternating seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean sailings. This deployment strategy allows guests to choose between different destination mixes while enjoying the same next-generation onboard experience. By placing the ship on longer, weeklong itineraries, the cruise line aims to attract travelers looking for deeper destination immersion combined with the comfort and variety of a large resort-style vessel.

MSC World Atlantic will become the fourth ship in the World Class series, a platform designed to deliver scale, innovation, and flexibility. The ship will feature more than 400,000 square feet of public space, creating an expansive environment where guests can move seamlessly between entertainment, dining, and relaxation areas. The emphasis on open design and spacious layouts is intended to enhance comfort even when the ship is sailing at full capacity.

One of the defining elements of the ship’s design will be its seven onboard districts. Rather than concentrating activities in a single central area, the ship will be divided into themed neighborhoods, each offering a curated mix of venues and experiences. This approach encourages exploration while helping guests easily identify areas that match their interests, whether that means vibrant nightlife, family-friendly activities, or quieter social spaces.

Culinary and beverage offerings will play a central role in shaping the onboard atmosphere. More than 30 bars, restaurants, and lounges are planned, showcasing a wide range of international influences and dining styles. A major highlight will be Viva La Musica, a high-energy area inspired by Latin culture. With live performances, dance-focused entertainment, and an extensive cocktail program, the venue is designed to capture the rhythm and spirit of Caribbean cruising.

Entertainment options will be further enhanced by The Clubhouse, a social venue making its first appearance in the U.S. market. Designed as a versatile and interactive space, The Clubhouse will host games, informal competitions, and relaxed entertainment sessions throughout the day and evening. The concept is aimed at creating a communal environment where guests can connect, unwind, and enjoy spontaneous experiences beyond traditional scheduled shows.

Port Canaveral’s role as the ship’s homeport reflects its growing importance within the global cruise industry. The port’s convenient access, strong infrastructure, and proximity to major travel corridors make it an attractive base for large, modern ships. The arrival of MSC World Atlantic is expected to strengthen Port Canaveral’s position as a leading departure point for Caribbean itineraries while supporting regional tourism growth.

The cruise line has indicated that MSC World Atlantic will not simply replicate earlier World Class ships but will introduce refinements and new concepts shaped by guest feedback and evolving travel trends. Updated entertainment offerings, redesigned public areas, and enhanced guest flow are expected to contribute to a more immersive and intuitive onboard experience.

Environmental performance and advanced technology are also expected to remain integral to the World Class design philosophy. While full technical details have yet to be released, the platform is known for incorporating energy-efficient systems and modern operational technologies. This suggests that MSC World Atlantic will continue to align fleet growth with broader sustainability objectives.

With sales now open and its inaugural season approaching in 2027, MSC World Atlantic represents a forward-looking investment in the future of Caribbean cruising. Combining scale, innovation, and destination-focused itineraries, the ship is positioned to appeal to travelers seeking a modern, experience-rich vacation at sea while underscoring MSC Cruises’ long-term commitment to the North American market.

Discover Europe’s Iconic Christmas Markets from the Comfort of a River Cruise: A Travel Guide for Global Holiday Explorers

13 December 2025 at 11:37
Discover Europe’s Iconic Christmas Markets from the Comfort of a River Cruise: A Travel Guide for Global Holiday Explorers

European winters bring a special kind of magic. Town squares glow with lights. Historic streets fill with music. Seasonal aromas drift through the air. For travelers seeking a festive escape, European Christmas market river cruises provide one of the most immersive ways to experience the holiday season.

These cruises allow visitors to explore multiple destinations while unpacking only once. Ships dock close to historic centers, placing travelers steps away from iconic Christmas markets. The experience blends comfort, culture, and seasonal charm into one smooth journey.

Why River Cruises Are Perfect for Christmas Travel

River cruising during the Christmas season offers simplicity and depth. Travelers avoid crowded train stations and winter driving challenges. Instead, they move gently along Europe’s famous waterways.

Each morning brings a new city or village. Each evening offers warmth and comfort onboard. This balance makes river cruising ideal for winter travelers of all ages.

Government tourism boards across Europe promote Christmas markets as cultural heritage events. Many markets date back centuries and remain deeply rooted in local traditions. Visiting them by river adds an extra layer of authenticity.

The Danube: A Classic Christmas Route

The Danube River is one of Europe’s most popular winter cruise routes. It flows through Hungary, Austria, and Germany, connecting grand capitals and charming towns.

Budapest welcomes travelers with riverside markets and traditional crafts. Vienna adds imperial elegance with classical music and historic squares. Smaller towns along the route offer quieter, more local celebrations.

This route is perfect for travelers who enjoy grand architecture, traditional music, and festive culinary experiences.

The Rhine and Moselle: Storybook Holiday Scenery

The Rhine and Moselle rivers deliver postcard-worthy winter landscapes. Medieval towns, half-timbered houses, and castle-lined hills create a fairy-tale atmosphere.

Cities along these rivers host markets known for handcrafted ornaments, seasonal pastries, and regional wines. Cathedral squares often serve as central gathering points, bringing together locals and visitors.

These cruises appeal to travelers seeking romantic scenery and old-world charm during the holidays.

The Elbe: Culture, History, and Festive Traditions

Elbe River cruises focus on Central European heritage. Routes often connect Germany and the Czech Republic, blending history with holiday spirit.

Travelers explore cities famous for classical music, artisan crafts, and traditional winter celebrations. Markets here are often less crowded, offering a more relaxed festive experience.

This route suits travelers interested in culture, history, and quieter holiday moments.

Life Onboard During the Holidays

River cruise ships embrace the season fully. Interiors are decorated with festive touches. Menus feature seasonal dishes inspired by local cuisines.

Onboard activities often include cultural talks, traditional music, and holiday-themed gatherings. These experiences enrich the journey without overwhelming the schedule.

The intimate size of river ships creates a cozy environment, perfect for winter travel.

When to Travel for Christmas Markets

Most European Christmas markets open from late November and run until just before Christmas. Some cities extend celebrations into early January.

River cruises are carefully scheduled to match peak festive periods. This ensures travelers experience markets at their liveliest.

Official tourism authorities recommend booking early, as holiday sailings are limited and highly popular.

Practical Tips for Winter River Travelers

Pack warm layers suitable for cold temperatures. Comfortable walking shoes are essential for cobblestone streets.

Short daylight hours make early planning helpful. Guided excursions offered by cruises maximize sightseeing time.

Respect local customs and crowd guidelines, especially in historic city centers.

A Journey That Feels Like a Holiday Story

European Christmas market river cruises offer more than sightseeing. They deliver a sense of belonging within Europe’s winter traditions.

Travelers return home with memories of glowing lights, shared songs, and moments of quiet beauty along historic rivers.

For global tourists seeking a meaningful festive journey, this travel style transforms winter into a celebration worth remembering.

Experience Island Life at Sea: Margaritaville’s New Dining and Amenities Offer Travelers a Complete Caribbean Cruise Adventure

Experience Island Life at Sea: Margaritaville’s New Dining and Amenities Offer Travelers a Complete Caribbean Cruise Adventure

Cruise travel continues to evolve as modern travelers seek experiences, not just destinations. Margaritaville at Sea is responding to this shift by enhancing its onboard dining and amenities. These changes are designed to make short Caribbean cruises more immersive, relaxed, and travel-friendly for guests from around the world.

For travelers planning quick ocean escapes, food and onboard atmosphere matter just as much as ports of call. The latest updates aim to create a more flexible, resort-style cruise experience that fits today’s vacation habits.

A New Approach to Dining at Sea

One of the most noticeable changes is the transformation of traditional buffet dining. Instead of a single large buffet, Margaritaville at Sea is introducing a market-style dining concept. Travelers can move between individual food stations, each offering a different cuisine or freshly prepared dish.

This setup encourages exploration and variety. Guests can sample multiple flavors without committing to one large meal. It also reduces crowding, making dining more relaxed during busy sailings.

For travelers who enjoy casual meals between activities, this new format fits perfectly into a flexible cruise schedule.

Specialty Dining for Every Travel Mood

Beyond casual dining, specialty restaurants have also been refreshed. Pizza venues offer freshly baked slices ideal for late-night cravings. Sushi and Asian-inspired dining spaces cater to guests looking for lighter, modern meals.

Steakhouse dining remains available for travelers celebrating special occasions. These venues focus on slower meals, refined service, and a quieter atmosphere. For couples or milestone trips, this creates a memorable dining moment at sea.

These options give travelers the freedom to choose how formal or casual each evening feels.

Bars and Social Spaces That Feel Like a Resort

Dining upgrades extend beyond food. Margaritaville at Sea has enhanced its bar and lounge experiences to feel more like a floating island resort.

Poolside bars remain a central attraction. They serve tropical drinks throughout the day and provide social hubs for families and groups. Indoor lounges offer craft cocktails in quieter settings, ideal for sunset conversations or relaxed evenings.

This balance allows travelers to shape their cruise experience based on energy levels and personal style.

Why Food Experiences Matter to Travelers

According to tourism authorities worldwide, culinary experiences play a major role in destination choice. Cruise travelers often want to taste regional flavors without complex planning.

By offering varied dining onboard, Margaritaville at Sea allows guests to enjoy international cuisine while still exploring local food ashore. This creates a complete travel experience, combining convenience with cultural discovery.

For first-time cruisers, this approach reduces uncertainty and enhances comfort.

Perfect for Short Getaway Cruises

Margaritaville at Sea specializes in short cruises, often lasting two to four nights. These sailings appeal to travelers with limited vacation time or those seeking weekend escapes.

Enhanced dining helps maximize value during short trips. Guests can enjoy multiple dining styles without feeling rushed. This is especially important on quick itineraries where every meal becomes part of the vacation highlight.

Short cruises are also recommended by tourism boards as an accessible introduction to cruise travel.

Destination-Focused Itineraries

These dining enhancements complement itineraries to popular Caribbean destinations. Sailings often include stops at island ports known for beaches, local markets, and historic districts.

Travel authorities encourage visitors to combine onboard comfort with cultural exploration ashore. Margaritaville at Sea’s relaxed dining schedule makes it easier to return from excursions and still enjoy quality meals onboard.

This balance supports stress-free travel planning.

Practical Tips for Travelers

  • Try different dining venues early in the cruise to find your favorites.
  • Reserve specialty dining for one evening to create a special memory.
  • Use casual dining options on port days for flexibility.
  • Stay hydrated and enjoy lighter meals during warm Caribbean sailings.

These simple steps help travelers get the most from onboard offerings.

A Cruise Experience Designed Around Travelers

Margaritaville at Sea dining & amenities upgrades reflect a growing trend in cruise travel. Guests want freedom, comfort, and variety rather than rigid schedules.

By focusing on food, social spaces, and relaxed island energy, the cruise line offers a travel experience that feels approachable and enjoyable. For global tourists seeking short Caribbean escapes, these enhancements turn a simple cruise into a flavorful journey.

As cruise travel continues to adapt, Margaritaville at Sea positions itself as a strong choice for travelers who value atmosphere as much as destinations.

10 Hits and Misses From Celebrity Cruises’ Brand-New Celebrity Xcel

4 December 2025 at 06:16

“We are a company that’s never satisfied,” said Jason Liberty, chairman and CEO of Celebrity Cruises, during a question-and-answer panel on Celebrity Xcel.

A large blue and white cruise ship labeled "Celebrity Xcel" is sailing on calm water near a bridge. Undergoing sea trials ahead of its November launch, the ship has multiple decks, orange lifeboats, and a distinctive orange structure on the side.

Nowhere is that sentiment clearer than on the new 3,276-passenger vessel. As the fifth in the line’s Edge Class, it offers several new additions – concepts that line president Laura Hodges Bethge said are the result of feedback from passengers who have sailed on the first four iterations.

From first-in-fleet restaurant concepts to phenomenal entertainment offerings, there’s a lot on Celebrity Xcel that will feel both familiar and refreshed. Here’s what you should be sure to check out if you sail and what needs a bit of work.

Don’t Miss These New Additions

A modern café interior with two people talking behind a counter evokes the relaxed elegance found on Celebrity Xcel. Shelves with jars and decor line the walls, pastries fill a glass display case, and coffee machines sit to the right on green and white tiled floors.

Fans of the Eden dining, lounge and entertainment space on other Excel Class ships will likely appreciate the line’s fresh take via The Bazaar. As they approach the venue, passengers will pass through Market at The Bazaar, which sells jewelry, bath products and clothing that’s made by artisans local to the places the ship visits.

The Bazaar itself is laid out similarly to Eden, but with performances featuring costuming and dance inspired by traditions in the Caribbean and other regions where the vessel sails.

Instead of Eden Restaurant and Eden Cafe, cruisers can dine for a fee at Mosaic, a restaurant with a menu that switches from Caribbean-inspired to European as the ship relocates, and the complimentary Spice Cafe.

The latter is a don’t-miss eatery that serves items like deli sandwiches, build-your-own bowls and rotating local specials like quesadillas, tostones and more. There’s plenty of seating, as well as a drink station and a specialty coffee bar. It’s the perfect spot for a casual lunch or snack.

Shows in the Theater and The Club

Two acrobats perform on a vertical pole on stage under purple and pink lighting aboard Celebrity Xcel. One is suspended upside down while the other holds above, with light beams and a curved stage design enhancing this memorable Celebrity Cruises show.

Celebrity has long been a forerunner in the cruise industry when it comes to entertainment. It was firmly the leader in that area until Virgin Voyages came along, but with the new shows on Celebrity Xcel, it might have just reclaimed its title.

You simply must see “Chapters,” one of three new shows in Celebrity Xcel’s main theater. With a mix of goosebump-inducing vocals, pop-and-lock dance moves, aerial acrobatics, smoke, lasers, and even parkour set in front of a high-tech digital backdrop, it’s perhaps one of the most sophisticated productions you’ll find anywhere at sea.

In addition to other new shows – “Between Takes” and “Mainstage” – that promise to deliver equally jawdropping effects in the theater, be sure to head to The Club, the ship’s nightclub venue, for the excellent new spectacles there.

“Saddle Up Saloon” features a team of singers, dancers and acrobats who perform country hits, and “254 West” offers a Studio 54 vibe punctuated by both classic dance favorites and contemporary tunes.

Bora

A table set for a meal aboard Celebrity Xcel features plates of food, including oatmeal with fruit and nuts, an open-faced sandwich with vegetables and cheese, Greek salad, shrimp cocktail, drinks, and a potted plant centerpiece.

Although we were skeptical at first, thanks to the sharing-plate style at this alfresco Mediterranean restaurant, we were pleasantly surprised – in fact, blown away – by the excellent cuisine and Greek vibes, featuring live music.

This for-fee outpost, located in the ship’s Rooftop Garden, features delicious items like eggs, French toast and avocado toast for brunch and haloumi, hummus, salted sea bass, and herbed chicken for dinner. There are also multiple seafood options – including shrimp so huge they could be lobster – for both meals. Want a cocktail with your food? Check out the bloody mary cart during brunch; it turns into a spritzer cart for dinner.

Photo Booth

A dimly lit hallway with yellow lights on the walls and a touchscreen monitor in the foreground displaying “WELCOME” hints at the high-tech ambiance of Celebrity Xcel, elevating your Celebrity Cruises experience from the moment you arrive.

If a bit of mystery is what you’re craving on Celebrity Xcel, seek out the photo booth inside The Club, just to the right of the bar. Put your name on the list to have your photo taken, and you and up to three of your friends are sure to end up with more than just some fun snapshots.

For good reason, it’s an exceptionally popular venue, so be sure to get there early, and set aside at least an hour once you’re inside.

Celebrity Flagship

A well-lit display room with glass cases showing ship-related memorabilia, including a detailed Celebrity Xcel model ship on a marble counter and various items on shelves along the dark blue walls.

As an ode to Celebrity Cruises’ history, the new ship houses the line’s first onboard mini-museum, Celebrity Flagship. The space holds a giant model of Celebrity Xcel (with a Magic Carpet that actually goes up and down) and several display cases filled with memorabilia dating back to when the line was owned by the Chandris family of Greek shipping fame.

When you’re done exploring, head to the adjoining shop, which sells all sorts of branded merchandise and logowear bearing Celebrity’s well-known “X” symbol. For an additional fee, items can also be personalized with engraving or embroidery.

The Attic

A foosball table is in the foreground of a dimly lit room with purple and orange lighting aboard Celebrity Xcel. In the background, bar stools, a table, and a neon sign reading “HIGH STAKES” evoke the vibrant nightlife of Celebrity Cruises.

The top floor of Celebrity Xcel’s two-deck The Club nightclub has been transformed into an adult gaming area with a handful of classic arcade games, digital darts, pool tables and foosball, among other diversions. All of the games are free to play, but you’ll pay extra for vending machine items that include an impressive array of both drinks and snacks.

A ledge with counter seating offers views onto the dance floor and performance space below, which is where the ship’s spectacular “254 West” and “Saddle Up Saloon” take place.

Spa Expansion

Several lounge chairs with cushions and small side tables line the deck of Celebrity Xcel under white canopies, with glass railings and a view of the sky in the background—a perfect spot for your Celebrity Cruises experience.

If you’re up for a day of added-fee relaxation, you can purchase a thermal suite pass. Celebrity Xcel has more dedicated spa space than its Edge Class counterparts. Cruisers will find a brand-new hydrotherapy pool in a dedicated room that will help them to melt their cares away.

Outside, the new Vitamain D Deck sun deck, located at the very front of the vessel, offers a serene space that’s a sunbather’s paradise.

What Needs Tweaking

Bora Shade

People dine at tables in a modern restaurant aboard Celebrity Xcel, with large windows, ambient lighting, and a ceiling decorated with yellow flowers and ceiling fans. The relaxed atmosphere invites conversation worthy of a glowing cruise review.

As we mentioned above, Bora offers a fantastic overall dining experience. The only drawback is that there’s very little shade, so wear sunscreen and prepare to sweat when the weather is warm. The space could do with a fully covered awning and some adjustable shades to block out the rays, particularly in the morning as the sun comes up and in the afternoon when it’s directly overhead.

Pickleball Court

People play pickleball on a rooftop court under large yellow umbrellas aboard Celebrity Xcel, with modern architecture and ocean in the background. Potted plants and lounge seating add to the upscale Celebrity Cruises experience.

The good news: In a first for the line, Celebrity Xcel has its own dedicated pickleball court. The bad news: It’s in a terrible location.

Found in the top-deck Rooftop Garden, peaceful seating areas and lush vegetation surround the court – not exactly an ideal spot for the sound of pickleballs hitting paddles and passengers grunting as they work up a sweat. Plus, it can also be a pain for players. One rogue serve, and the ball will end up in the bushes.

Digital Elevator Buttons

Although digital elevator buttons aren’t a new concept, we noticed that the ones on Celebrity Xcel were particularly problematic. If you don’t hit the button for your floor exactly in the right spot, you risk activating a different floor instead. Lean up against the wall absentmindedly when the elevator car is crowded, and you’ll be inadvertently pressing all of the buttons, meaning you’ll stop on every single floor. Be mindful of this if you’re not taking the stairs.
