Pep Guardiola has revealed his outrage at what he branded the indefensible killings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti in Minneapolis, as he compared the death of the latter to seeing a nurse in the National Health Service gunned down on the grass.
The Manchester City manager has said he has to carry on speaking up to try and produce a better society, as he talked of his anguish at seeing images of what he called genocide in the Gaza Strip and deaths in Ukraine and Sudan.
And while United States president Donald Trump and members of his administration have sought to justify Pretti’s death at the hands of ICE – with Kristi Noem, secretary of the Department of Homeland Security calling the 37-year-old nurse a “domestic terrorist,” Trump saying he was “perhaps” an “insurrectionist” and high-ranking official Stephen Miller branding him a “would-be assassin” – Guardiola said it was impossible to defend his killing.
Good, a mother of three, was also shot dead last month by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Minnesota and Guardiola said: “Look what happened in the United States of America. Renee Good and Alex Pretti have been killed.
“Imagine [a nurse in] the NHS, five or six people around him, go on the grass and [fire] 10 shots. Tell me how you can defend that? Make something wrong, [you should] go to the jail.
“What is happening right now, with the technologies and advances that we have, the humanity is better than ever in terms of possibilities. We can reach the moon, we can do everything. But still right now, we kill each other. For what? For what? When I see the images, I am sorry, it hurts. It hurts me, that is why in every position I can help speak up to be a better society, I will try and will be there.”
Guardiola spoke at a rally in his native Barcelona last week in support of Palestinian children in Gaza and he was similarly impassioned as he said people cannot ignore the evidence in front of their eyes.

And he added: “Never, ever in the history of humanity, never ever have we had the info in front of our eyes watching more clearly than now: genocide in Palestine, what happened in Ukraine, what happened in Russia, what happened all around the world; in Sudan, everywhere. What happened in front of us? Do you want to see it? It's our problems as human beings. It's our problems.
“Today we can see it. Before, we could not see it. It hurts me. If it was the opposite side, it would hurt me. Wanting harm for another country? It hurts me. It’s not about the position. Every argument, I’m sorry, this is my feeling. When [someone] completely kills thousands of innocent people, it hurts me. It’s no more complicated than that.
“I have a lot of friends from many, many countries, a lot of friends, but when you have an idea and you need to defend [it] and you have to kill thousands, thousands of people, I’m sorry, I will stand up, always I will be there. Always. I cannot imagine how anybody cannot feel that, when you see the images every single day, the fathers, mothers, kids, what happened, their lives being destroyed and the people cannot feel a little bit of being attached? I’m sorry, I cannot feel it.”
Guardiola said he believes humanitarian aid is more important than the causes that are leading some to kill.
He explained: “The people who have to run away from their countries, in the sea and then go on a boat to get rescued. Don't ask if he is right or wrong; rescue him. It is about a human being. People are dying; you have to help them. Protecting the human being and human life is the only thing we have. Not just in these parts of the world but every part of the world.”
The young attacker needs to play regularly to further develop. Sitting on the bench at the English club will not benefit him. It is clear that Sunderland does not consider him a key player, and it would be ideal for him to seek a summer exit.
It will be interesting to see where he ends up. The former Brighton attacker is a technically gifted player with a bright future. Joining the right team could bring out the best in him. He will add peace and flair from the flanks, and he is versatile enough to operate on either wing.
As quoted by Sport News Africa, La Nouvelle Chaine Ivoirienne reporter Alex Payne said: “Simon Adingra is a technically gifted player, but not explosive. He’s also not very involved in defensive efforts, which is what you need to succeed in the Premier League. Sunderland have had an impressive season so far, and they are pushing for a place in the top half. It remains to be seen whether they can finish the season strongly. It would make sense for them to sell that African attacker in the summer and bring in an upgrade. Keeping him on the bench will not benefit them. They should look to bring in someone who can make an immediate impact on the first team. A summer exit would be ideal for all parties.
Bruno Guimaraes has been exceptional for Newcastle United since joining the club, and he has been linked with a move away in recent seasons.
Former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann has now suggested that the Brazilian could be on the move soon. He believes that Guimaraes will want to compete at the highest level and that the opportunity to join elite European clubs will be hard to pass up.
However, the German explained that the player is quite settled at Newcastle and would not be surprised if he decided to stay for a season or two.
A player of his quality will want to win major trophies regularly. Newcastle have an ambitious project, but they are not quite at that level yet.

The two Spanish giants would be interested too.
“I think Bruno can pretty much pick his club depending on how much Newcastle would want for him but he seems to be very settled in the North East.

Liverpool have reportedly taken another step closer to signing Rennes centre-back Jeremy Jacquet, who has now had his medical with the Reds.
The talented 20-year-old has been the subject of a lot of interest this winter, with the Athletic reporting on his medical with Liverpool being scheduled.
And now Mike McGrath of the Telegraph has posted on X that that medical has now been done, with Jacquet all set to join Liverpool for a potential £60m package in the summer.

Sky Sports’ Kaveh Solhekol had posted about the Blues pursuing the young defender, with Rennes’ preference always being to keep him until the summer.
Perhaps this ended up being the key detail, as LFC have clearly allowed Jacquet to remain with the Ligue 1 club for a few more months.

Chelsea, by contrast, looked like they really needed a new defender now, and this led to them recalling Mamadou Sarr from his loan spell at Strasbourg.
Liverpool fans will be delighted to see their club move quickly to hijack the deal and secure the services of one of the most highly regarded young defenders in Europe.
Arne Slot looks like he could do with a signing like this for the near future, with Virgil van Dijk not getting any younger, while Ibrahima Konate is coming towards the end of his contract this summer.

Chelsea have officially announced that Mamadou Sarr has been recalled to the club from his loan at Strasbourg, while Aaron Anselmino has joined the Ligue 1 side.
The Blues recently recalled Anselmino from his loan stint with Borussia Dortmund, and it looked like this could lead to him being involved in their first-team in the second half of the season.
However, Chelsea have now confirmed that the talented young Argentine has instead gone on loan to Strasbourg for the second half of this campaign, replacing Sarr as he’s returned to Stamford Bridge.

Arsenal have reportedly made an enquiry about Bayern Munich central midfielder Leon Goretzka, though a move currently looks unlikely.
That’s according to a report from talkSPORT, who state that the Gunners had explored the option of landing Goretzka to give them cover for the injured Mikel Merino.
The experienced Germany international is out of contract with Bayern this summer, so looks to be heading out of the Allianz Arena on a free transfer.

Tonali could perhaps be one to watch again in the summer, whereas Goretzka would surely only have been a short-term option as he no longer looks like being at the peak of his powers.
The Sun have also linked Tonali with Chelsea and Manchester City.

Merino is a quality player who’ll be hard to replace, and if anyone else gets injured between now and May then Arsenal could be in real trouble, so it’s easy to see why Arteta seems to be pushing hard for the club to get someone in before the end of today.
Harvey Elliott now looks increasingly likely to see out the season at Aston Villa, despite uncertainty surrounding his long-term future at Villa Park, according to BBC.
The attacking midfielder joined Villa on loan from Liverpool last summer, but his situation appeared to stall earlier in the campaign after manager Unai Emery decided against pursuing a permanent deal.
Emery had publicly indicated as far back as October that Villa did not intend to trigger their option to buy the 22-year-old, a decision that saw Elliott fall out of the matchday picture for an extended period.
However, circumstances have shifted dramatically in recent weeks.

Still, the 27-year-old may well feel that he could do better than West Ham, who are enduring a difficult season and facing a serious fight to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

Disasi could become a key player for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side and help them stay up, but it makes sense that he’s perhaps unsure about the risk.
If West Ham do end up going down, Disasi will surely find it harder to find another club when it comes to the end of his loan in the summer.
